Google
Have been looking for Texas/Austin-style breakfast tacos since moving to California 6 years ago. Happy to report that HomeState is the closest I’ve found! The Neches and Potato tacos were phenomenal, but I didn’t love the Chicken. Will probably stick just to the breakfast tacos next visit. The queso was good but a bit bland - could use a kick! The chips, potatoes, and homemade ranch were fantastic. Definitely recommend this spot, and this location in particular was very nice.

This is a great place, tacos are excellent. Place was busy so I had to wait in line a little bit before my order was taken frozen. Margarita was superior, but I got brain freeze from drinking it too fast. All in all great experience I’ll be back

I’m from Texas and spent a good portion of my life in San Antonio. Home State’s breakfast tacos do give me a taste of home, flour tortilla of course, however the cost is completely different. I truly miss the breakfast tacos in San Antonio on homemade flour tortillas, which is just not common in Southern California and HomeState delivers that taste and flavor. Now I grew up being able to go to literally ANY Mexican restaurant that serves breakfast and getting amazing homemade tortillas as it is very normal at a very competitive price. $3.50 for a taco I’m used to getting at $.99 cents at most is crazy to me. And not due to inflation or new costs. I was in S.A a few months ago where I could get the usual special that basically every Mexican drive thru breakfast tacos place has, 3 for $2.99. Now all three have to be the same thing. My go-to has always been bean and cheese. Still, great little spot. Service is always phenomenal and the tacos do cure an itch. The price per taco is just a bit hard to swallow. But I still frequent because damn, they taste just like they would in San Antonio. I also recommend switching to cheddar cheese instead of Monterrey Jack for their bean and cheese for a more authentic vibe to San Antonio.

One day I woke up and realized I visit HomeState in PDR weekly. So many good things to say about this place - even when busy there’s always a spot to eat and fast service. Margaritas are strong and fresh. Brisket tacos are worth every bite and queso is the best in LA. Plenty of free parking across the street and friendly staff. In fact, maybe I’ll stop by for a drink and a taco right now.

I couldn't resist the allure of the "I love breakfast tacos" sign at HomeState. What I experienced there exceeded all expectations. I opted for Rickey's favorite taco, the Blanco vegetarian, made with authentic organic eggs and shiitake mushrooms. I made a substitution, replacing Monterey Jack with potatoes, and it was truly delicious. Rickey, the cashier, recommended the Blanco, and now I understand why. HomeState boasts a lively, relaxed atmosphere and a diverse, energetic staff. The quality of the food far surpassed its price. Needless to say, I will definitely be returning.

Google
I love these tacos! This restaurant has a taco for whatever you are in the mood for. The tacos are so fulfilling and the price is great. The strawberry marg is soooo good. The staff is always superfriendly, and they take their time with every customer. I never feel rushed, and I always feel welcome. I love the family photo of the owner and her family on the shelf.

The first time we ate at this chain we loved it so much we had to get it again. It has so many great options for different Travis and breakfast or lunch or anytime food. I recommend getting the large queso with chips and then you can add it into any of the food you get. The Trinity was a fav with us for breakfast. Great flavor and filled with bacon eggs, potatoes and cheese. Delicious. We also tried the brisket taco which I loved, and then a few others. You really can't go wrong. Try them all. This location was very modern and had a great vibe. You could hang out in this area and enjoy your afternoon. Very clean and those who served us were friendly. Bathrooms located in the building if you eat here, and they offer cups of water or other drinks for purchase. Definitely my new favorite place.

Yelp
Hands down the best breakfast tacos I've had in ages. They serve different styles of beans, from vegetarian to your traditional meat beans. Fresh flour tortillas. All for a reasonable price. We went back and I made sure to buy a dozen tortillas to take back home with me. I don't live in the area, my sister took us here, and I'm so happy that she did. Parking is a pain, but some how people make it work? Granted I only went on the weekend. I'm sure it's insane when people are working in the offices. They do have public toilets located past the kitchen. Give HomeState a try if you're in this area.

Yelp
Five stars for a taco place. Also, all the tacos on the menu are available all the time. Other non taco items are on the menu. The three tacos I ordered were $3-4.50 each. They were heavy in weight for a taco, tasty, and healthy Ingredients. Two would have been enough. Green and red topping sauces are offered. Very good tacos, interesting place. 7-8 locations. The only negative is they want cards no cash. I understand the dangers of an employee depositing cash in a bank or the cost of managing cash which can be 2-5 %. But companies like Garda and Brinks can lower that % to about 1.5 %. Card companies will charge restaurants about 2-3.5%. I mention this because cash is legal tender. Some states make it illegal not to take cash. I also mention this because sometimes you want to remain anonymous-. Also accepting only credit cards can discriminate against the poor who have a harder time obtaining cards.

Yelp
First time trying it and it was pretty tasty. I tried the walking taco which was so yummy and they actually fill it up nicely. It's topped with cheese, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and I added beans because I mean why not. My colleague got the salad with chicken it was big and she liked it. Service was good and the ambiance is nice. I would definitely go back and try their tacos.

Yelp
Discovered HomeState the day we moved in and went back every day for the next few days. It's that good! Love the vegan and vegetarian options. The flour tortillas are soft and fluffy but not technically vegan since they add butter. My family loved the chicken and beef tacos as well. I was surprised they have a great selection of fun alcoholic beverages! Even when they're at their busiest, there are still indoor and outdoor tables available and service is quick and friendly. Breakfast tacos are insanely delicious and incredibly filling, too. Try the Chicano Batman if you're a fan of chili and want to see vegan proteins done right!

Deborah A.

Yelp
I am eating their breakfast tacos as I'm writing this review. Wow. 1000% agree with one of the other reviewers, these are hands down the best breakfast tacos I've had. Also the price for what you get is insane. On the west side? In this economy? And they have pasture raised eggs? C'mon, the deal is so good it makes me angry. I had the vegetarian tacos, the blanco and comal, both delicious - you should go get them now.

Brittany A.

Yelp
I literally think about these tacos all of the time, they were so good. I got the cheese and egg plus the beef and cheese, both were amazing. The house made tortillas were super soft, cheese was melty, salsa was fresh and tangy plus the meat was flavourful and not greasy. My three year old daughter and hubby also loved them as well. I really enjoyed the cookie milk iced coffee as well, just heavenly. I wish I could go back literally now lol see you someday soon, Homestate!

Yelp
I cannot believe it too me so long to get here. For some reason, Apple Maps gave some confusing driving directions much was somewhat frustrating. This location is in Playa Vista, just off Jefferson near Centinela. There is street parking but it's challenging during the dinner hour to find a spot. It was my first visit and the cashier was happy to offer recommendations and answer questions. I had 3 tacos - Tijuana Panthers, Picadillo and Potato (with cheese). The Guac was super delicious and the Queso - the best I've had outside of Texas! The tacos weee I like that they have indoor seating (the Culver location only has outdoor seating and just a few counter stools inside). I took my leftover guac and Queso to go and they gave me a fresh bag of chips with it ! The food was soooo good - a nice change of pace from the California Mexican food that we also used to. I had no idea there were multiple locations so I've been spreading the word about homes State to everyone who will listen. Happy with my choice - I decided this was one of my new fav places after a few bites. Pro Tip: Due to limited parking and indoor seating, I'd recommend trying to get in between lunch and dinner time to avoid the busy periods.

Yelp
First time here to try their breakfast tacos. What a great idea! I recommend getting an assortment of them. I got a Trinity, a Guadalupe and a Don't Mess With Texas. Breakfast of champions. :)

Hannah K.

Yelp
Good tacos for breakfast brunch lunch snack dinner- I like don't mess w texas, neches, Tijuana panther, the loaded queso is the best. W/ a frozen margarita. Love that pupps are allowed on patio. It's a nice spot, parks around and mini nature trails on bluff creek(a block away).

Yelp
I first heard of HomeState from a Buzzfeed Worth It video many many years ago and it has been on my list ever since. I love breakfast and I love tacos. Makes sense to combine the two! I haven't been to the other locations, but Playa Vista is a nice area and it's a lot easier to find street parking. There are some tables inside, and there's lots of outdoor seating. You order at the counter, get a number, and find a seat. Here's what we tried: - Cookie milk iced coffee: It was a solid iced coffee and the concept of using cookie milk is very exciting, but unfortunately the flavor wasn't that strong - Blanco (egg whites, shiitake mushrooms, monterey jack): I wanted something lighter to balance out the brisket and this was so good! This taco was definitely more stuffed than the other ones. Egg whites get a bad rep for having no flavor but this taco had a bunch of flavor. Only downside was that because of the mushrooms, it was pretty wet so it was a little difficult to eat. Perhaps not the one to order if you're trying to look cute on a date, but soo worth the mess. - Pecos (eggs and brisket): Brisket for breakfast? Don't need to tell me twice. The brisket was very tender and paired super nicely with the eggs. Do yourself a favor and get the tacos with their house made flour tortillas. These were seriously some of the best flour tortillas I've had and if I could, I would love to just take home a giant stack of tortillas. I'll probably try some of the other locations that are a little closer to me, but this was a fantastic first experience and I'm happy to report it exceeded my expectations!

Yelp
I'm not a huge breakfast taco person, but my friends and I got together here to hang out. We arrived a little after 11 am on a Saturday and it wasn't completely packed, but most of the tables on the inside were taken and there were only a few tables available outside. We also got lucky with parking and pulled in right when someone was leaving, otherwise the street was already lined with cars. You order at the front first and then you grab a table, and they will bring your order to you. I ordered the Pecos Taco ($5) and the Chicano Batman ($5), and then the table shared a Loaded Queso ($10). They use some tape to label each type of taco so you know what you're getting, which is smart. Both of the tacos that I got were good, though I did like the pecos a bit more. I feel like the chicano batman was a bit too salty for me. They give you bottles of red and green salsa to put on your tacos, and personally I liked the green salsa more since it tasted a bit lighter but still had lots of flavor to it. The queso was also good to share as a side. All the brisket was on the bottom though so you kind of have to dig for it. Between the 2 tacos and a bit of the queso with chips, I was completely full by the end of the meal. The 2 tacos on their own were enough to get me full. We got our orders pretty quickly, and everyone working there was really friendly. Food is good, so this is a good place to suggest for breakfast tacos. I'd be down to come back again if I'm in the area for breakfast.

Yelp
Wonderful spot for tacos! The tortilla is very fresh and there are so many types of tacos. My favorite is the trinity which is egg, bacon, potatoes. Their savory tacos are amazing. Never dry and the proportions are perfect. The service is quick and they are super nice and make sure your order is correct. Take it to go or dine in. If you take out I would recommend to get the food and walk over to the sports park and have a picnic or eat at the benches and watch the ducks and people playing sports.

Karen H.

Yelp
the chorizo Migas is something I dream of. I crave and need. I think it's big... but it looks small. It's VERY tasty, satisfying, comforting and it is VERY memorable. Granted the tacos are delicious as well. The tortillas are another level and I think it elevates the tacos. The tacos are veeeeeery tasty but something about Andy's migas (the chorizo one) caught my heart and carved in memory. I highly recommend the chorizo Migas and make sure you take a nap after. such a happy dish.

Yelp
The best Mexican food is better than the best Tex Mex food. Just saying. But whatever. We're not here to compare cuisines. This place turns out some good Tex Mex. Good luck finding free parking. We found some by only a true miracle. There's just very, very little free parking in this area. Two words: Tijuana Panther. Get this taco on an absolutely delicious freshly-made flour tortilla. It's filled with juicy and tender brisket and it's fantastic. It's also quite large--call it a smallish burrito. The breakfast tacos are served all day. The Don't Mess With Texas taco (beans, bacon, potatoes, and cheddar) was plentiful with the beans and that's all I could taste. It was fine but not terrific. The potato taco was very good. Almost no one ever orders potato tacos anywhere but you should get try them. They are almost always great. The Frito Pie in a Bag is made with that same brisket chili and I'm a fan of Frito pie, whenever, wherever. It's a comfort food that always delivers. We also tried the queso and chips and it was fine. The cheese was good but I actually thought the chips were outstanding. They were fresh and crunchy and plentiful (we did order the "big" queso). I'd say two tacos and maybe chips is plenty for a meal. I'd come back for that Tijuana Panther any day or to try some different items. Don't sleep on the red and green salsas, either. They are tangy and not too spicy.

Kelsey C.

Yelp
Homestate. Uniquely Tex-Mex, love it or hate it, Homestate serves this conglomerate cuisine with subtlety and style. The ingredients are pasture-prime, often organic and ethically sourced. I know it's ridiculously simple, but I loved the three-ingredient Blanco . Juicy shiitakes add the savory to a melty Monterey Jack on a bed of fluffy egg whites. Slather on the salsas for sweet tomato and biting tomatillo. Less is more in the Trinity, a simple scramble with bacon, cheese, and home fries. I preferred the lighter breakfast to the punchy proteins of lunch. An assertive achiote marinade coats the Chicken, Picadillo is salty ground beef but a bit much, and the Potato sounds bland but it's filling and rather refreshing despite a bit more sour cream than I like. Simplicity is special at Homestate. Nothing here is flashy, but the ingredients are great. I've had more exciting tacos elsewhere, but I really enjoyed these as well.

Michael S.

Yelp
This is an unusual taco place. Almost everyone orders a breakfast taco. The Trinity, is the most popular and "traditional" with eggs, bacon and a few pieces of potato. I like it on the flour tortilla but my kids like the corn tortillas. Both are about the same size. These are normal sizes "soft tacos" but incredibly filling. I always order a Trinity and a Pecos, which is scrambled eggs and lots of brisket. Two tacos are too much to eat, but psychologically I get two and wish I only ordered one taco. The Pecos, or any other taco with brisket, is excellent. Yeah, the tacos are a little too salty, but that's so they can sell more drinks. I tried the cookie milk iced coffee. Not impressed with the coffee. It has a strong over roasted or burned coffee taste and I didn't understand the "cookie" flavor. If you go in a weekend morning try to arrive before 11 so no problem with seating.

Joi R.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to come for tasty tacos and other Mexican small bites like cheesy quesadillas. The potato taco is delicious. I also like the Blanco breakfast taco. BTW, breakfast items are served all day which is an added bonus. The Hibiscus Limeade is a must try thirst quencher, especially on a hot day, but really, on any day this drink is a favorite. Indoor seating is limited, but there is ample patio seating, okay for small groups. Parking can be a challenge, so it's wise to be prepared to park in the neighborhood and walk over if you plan on dining in.

Steve V.

Yelp
We were meeting some friends at Playa Vista Central park and decided to grab some food here and take it back with us. We all ordered online and walked over to pick it up. There is a direct path to walk as street parking can be a hassle here. Upon arrival, the food was ready, but I was disappointed to find that the margaritas we got were on happy hour at less than half the price we paid online, but they could not do anything about it. So pro-tip, order drinks when you get there. You most likely won't have to wait for them for too long. We got back to the park and all of our orders were accurate and tasty. The portion size was fine. This place is good for snacking or a full meal. While we didn't eat there, the inside was spacious and clean, and there was some outdoor seating as well. This location is near some businesses so probably has a good lunch time weekday crowd.

Ashima K.

Yelp
Me so happy!!! I've been resistant to drive too far for breakfast tacos, and of course, did not realize there was one in Playa! After eating these, I'm happy to say I'd drive further for them, but joyously don't need to. I got the Guadalupe Taco which was fine, have had better. I'm extremely dedicated to the Don't mess with Texas. I added eggs to it and my goodness - the perfect antidote to my hangover, and the perfect reason for much needed morning joy. The tortillas are soft and delicious, and the salsas are done so well! The place was packed and for good reason. I have been back and will be back - a fun change from the LA taco truck scene (very delicious, but this is just a different ball game)

Nicole B.

Yelp
Homestate is a Playa Vista staple and I love it so much! The breakfast tacos are everything! Trinity taco is my absolute favorite. Though small with limited indoor seating, there is a ton of outdoor seating. Homestate is always buzzing on weekends - lively and a constant favorite!

Abigail D.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my picadillo & brisket tacos at HomeState. The meats were well seasoned and cooked to tender perfection! The salsa options weren't as spicy as I'd like but they paired nicely with the tacos. I absolutely loved the homemade flour tortillas. I usually prefer crunchy tacos over soft and corn tortillas over flour but HomeState won me over! Plus, the portions are huge! I was stuffed and had to bring a taco and some of the potatoes home. The potatoes weren't anything different but I like potatoes so it met my breakfast needs for the morning! Service was quick and friendly. Really the only con is terrible parking. Be prepared to find street parking and walk! There is a structure you can park at but be prepared to pay.

Preston I.

Yelp
Enjoyed some breakfast tacos that I had delivered from HomeState. Both the brisket taco and bacon, egg, and cheese taco tasted pretty good. It was a large portion size as well. The red and green salsa that came with the tacos added some spice and flavor. The downside was that both tacos were pretty oily. So much so that the oil leaked through the foil they were wrapped with and got all over the bag as well. I'm down to try them again Ayo see if this was an anomaly or just how their tacos are made.

Caitlin N.

Yelp
My fam and I are big fans of HomeState! We came after a 12 hour flight from Japan and had the best brunch tacos! Highly recommend the potato and brisket taco, as well as the Trinity taco!

Lydia C.

Yelp
I was in the area and take advantage of the opportunity to try this place out. As a huge fan of Tex-Mex for breakfast, the breakfast tacos were okay, but I really liked their other tacos. The place is well decorated with ample seating both inside and outside. The service was also good, and super helpful when answering questions. I got the following items: Guadalupe: This one was a little underwhelming. I wished I could have tasted more of the chorizo, but adding some of their salsa helped a lot. Tijuana Panther: I much preferred this taco. Juicy and full of flavor, this one didn't need the salsa at all. I was worried this one would be too heavy with the potatoes and queso, but the pico de gallo helped a lot. The Salsas that Came on the Side: While I didn't technically order this, these were great and helped a lot. The order came with both a smoky and spicy red salsa and a refreshing green salsa.

Jay N.

Yelp
OMG, Homestate is like a slice of Texas right here in LA! Their tacos are absolutely AMAZING! Every bite takes me back to the good ol' days when I lived in Texas. The flavors are so authentic and the tortillas are freshly made and oh-so-delicious. Whether you're in the mood for the classic breakfast tacos or the mouthwatering QUESO, Homestate has got you covered. Trust me, one bite and you'll be transported to the Lone Star State. Don't forget to try their homemade salsas too - they add an extra kick of flavor that will leave you craving for more. If you're a Tex-Mex lover like me, you HAVE to check out Homestate. It's a taco paradise that will make your taste buds dance with joy!

Julia D.

Yelp
The parking in the area is kind of chaotic but there's street parking all in PV. You order at the main counter and then get a number while you find a table, then they bring you your food + salsas when they're ready. The packaging is also phenom and they use tape with descriptors of which taco is which on the foil so you know what you're about to eat! I love a good breakfast taco, and my favorites are the neches (10/10), Guadalupe (chorizo), and the trinity is a good classic. They have a good seasonal special now that I liked too. The quality is always good, they come out nice and hot, and the flour tortillas are quite literally the best in the area. I tried the cookie milk cold brew recently and liked it too! Easy, reliable, yummy breakfast tacos. Love!

Alona L.

Yelp
A Texan friend introduced me to this place and I fell in love. It is always popular and crowded because everything is so delicious! The only downside in Playa Vista location is the parking -hard to find a spot in the street but they are offering 30 min validation if you park in the garage behind the restaurant (I do feel 30 mins is too little though because the line+getting food+eating without rushing is more than 30 mins). Otherwise the service is friendly, food is delicious and the place has a lot of tables available.

Shirin B.

Yelp
I thought I was a fan of breakfast burritos but then I came to Homestate and they turned me into a breakfast taco lover. I came here for a quick breakfast on a Friday morning and service was super fast. I got the blanco, trinity and veggie potato taco and they were all super delicious. The blanco I probably wouldn't get again just cause the mushrooms probably made the tortillas soggy but I would definitely get the veggie potato taco again. That taco was packed with potatoes veggies and guac, so so good. They also provide each order with a bottle of green and red sauce so you can never run out of salsa. Love homestate!

Maya D.

Yelp
For this TX girl livin' in LA, this place is heaven. Creamy queso, fresh tortilla chips, tacos on the freshest tortillas?! YESSSSS! This location has a nice, covered outdoor seating area including some spots inside. Loved bringing my kiddos here for breakfast tacos. The salsas are great too. Service is incredibly friendly. I had a little extra queso so I asked for a lid so I could take the container home. The server said would you like some more fresh chips to take home with you too? Yes please!

Lina K.

Yelp
This spot is right down the road from my apartment so we headed over to check it out for a weekday lunch. We ordered the migas, brisket taco, and a picadillo taco and found a table outside. The server brought over our food with two different bottled sauces to enjoy with our meal. The tortillas on the taco tasted freshly made and the meat inside was well seasoned but the flour tortilla did get a bit soggy from all the juices so I'd probably stick with the corn tortilla in the future . The migas were definitely a hit with the egg loving boyfriend and said the tortillas was a must add to the dish. Overall a cute spot to grab a quick brunch and it's always a plus finding a spot with a patio to bring your puppy along.

Shanelle S.

Yelp
Outpost of popular taco spot from Texas. Came here for lunch with a couple of friends who work in Silicon Beach, and there was a line but it moved quickly. Indoor and outdoor dining available. Restrooms available in the back. You order at the counter and receive a number. Credit cards accepted. They do serve alcohol. Breakfast tacos served all day. I got the Trinity and Neches tacos, which were very filling. Our table also split a small order of queso (and even that we could barely finish). There's self-service water across the counter. The indoor tables were more conducive for big groups, but plenty of people were coming in just for takeout.

Karla M.

Yelp
Parking is not easy at this location. I was lucky to find a spot in the street. First time impression the place is very spacious and love the outdoor seating. It gives cafeteria school vibes, Long picnic tables. The staff were very nice and recommended some tacos for us to try. Service was quick not too long of a wait at the time we went (8pm). We tried the chicken tacos and they honestly, didn't have enough flavor for me. Being in LA and eating so many tacos I feel like a brick and mortar will have the best but not so much my experience here. They were not bad but, for the price I expected better. They weren't too oily which I did like but lacked flavor. The beans were not much better. The cheese on them was the best part and it was not even melted. The potato's were ok, the potato tacos were not great, cookies were not fresh as they stated but overall it was just OK. The spicy Paloma was good. I've been told the breakfast here is better so one day when I'm in that area I'll come back and try that out.

Richard D.

Yelp
As a native Texan, this spot brings back the warm and fuzzies. I never knew how good we had it with our food until I moved away. Breakfast tacos seem so logical, yet but many places don't do it. Not much to say, but you really can't not like the combo of tortilla, bacon, eggs and salsa. Get some extra tortillas to go. They're divine

Karen N.

Yelp
Great fast-casual breakfast taco place in an office plaza area in Playa Vista. I came for a quick brunch with a friend. The tacos ($5-6 each) were yummy and satisfying. We tried the Pecos and Trinity tacos and the Cookie Milk Iced Coffee. Order at the counter, grab a number and sit inside or outside.

Nicholas B.

Yelp
Solid service. Great food. I don't come up to LA/Culver often but when I do, I love to snag some Homestate. I was up on 4/14 and their spot in PlayaVista did not disappoint. Thanks for serving up that deliciousness.

Nicolas J.

Yelp
Parking was kinda weird and for a first timer it was hard to find. Had the Picadillo Taco which was better than the special loaded one (forgot the name) tried the sandwich too. Meat was good and sandwich was the best part but lowkey reminded me tuna with the texture lol Not a bad spot but not anything memorable or impressive. Drink was decent

Alisa Z.

Yelp
I love coming here for breakfast tacos. You order at the counter and most people sit on the patio, so very dog friendly. I usually get 2-3 breakfast tacos, pecos (egg and brisket) and blanco (mushrooms, egg whites, cheese) being my favorite. You can choose corn or flour tortillas for the tacos. The queso is pretty good too, but the small is a little too small and the regular needs to be split. My absolute favorite though is the Hibisbus Limeade-- I'm obsessed. Not too sweet and deliciously tart. It also comes with free refills! They also have a M-F margarita happy hour (but I keep forgetting to check it out!)

Tayler F.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible! I mobile ordered and my food was done well before it's suggested time. Quick friendly service upon arrival. There is plenty of seating and the restaurant is very cute I'll definitely eat in next time. Now for the food...absolutely worth 5 stars. The homemade tortillas are incredible, the salsas have a great flavor without overpowering the rest of the flavors. The crispy potatoes on the don't mess with texas breakfast taco are a stand out. The brisket in the Pecos taco is so juicy, tender, and flavorful. I could also easily fill up on the chips and Queso alone. I want to try their all day tacos next time, but their breakfast tacos are enough to keep me coming back. A small piece of Texas in LA and my new favorite spot for sure!

Sofy Y.

Yelp
In a word: DAMN. Breakfast tacos are big in Texas and also just one of the best ways to eat breakfast imo. First off I want to say thank you and big shout out to all the people who are making the food and gorgeous flour tortillas. They have an open kitchen so you can see them all working hard AF and hardly anyone appreciates their labor. When I bussed my own table they were super appreciative and when I said thank you so much for making the food the folks turned their steely looks into smiles. What the folks making our food do can be hella thankless so do your damn part and bus your table, and say thank you. This location is in a super entitled area on a big tech campus. People don't clean up after themselves and don't acknowledge the labor of the people making their food, it's a major shame and I hope this bougie neighborhood sees some improvement on the social front (it's def not one of my favorite areas of LA because the brand of entitlement matches Beverly Hills). Just a huge thank you to the folks who work here, FOH and BOH. They make this place everything that it is. Partner and I ordered a plethora of tacos (to eat then and for the road on our drive back to the bay), hibiscus limeade, and a chocolate chip cookie. Of the 11 tacos we collectively ordered we were able to eat 3.5 of them. These are some damn substantial tacos! You really get the bang for your buck here, as they also do free refills on the limeade! My favorite was the trinity. But the pecos, Texas, and Guadalupe were all hella close seconds. We got the crispy potatoes which were perfectly crispy, and were exactly like the potatoes my dad would make growing up. They make hella good salsa in house too to go with the food. If you like flavor but can't handle spice (I have horrible GI health problems and pretty much everything can upset my stomach) for whatever reason you'll be pleasantly surprised as the salsas are mild in spice but damn delicious and elevate the tacos. On our way out they gave us refills for the road of our drinks. Staff is so kind, and friendly and attentive. Though this bougie suburb is def not my favorite part of LA I'm already pressed to go back for HomeState, and so glad I have extra tacos! Edit: it gets hella busy but they work damn hard and are so efficient and get through the line so quickly, and there is an abundance of seating, but not an abundance of parkingz

Yelp
I have been a big fan of HomeState for years so I decided to try the Playa Vista location. Unfortunately there is limited street parking, so we parked at the garage behind WeWork ($20 max - around $12 for an hour or so). This is ok if you're carpooling but just FYI! I ordered the blanco and the brisket - two of my favorites!!! I consider them more breakfast burritos than tacos. I ordered a loaded queso to share - the only con about the queso is it wasn't that hot so it got cold very fast. Chips are supposedly unlimited but without true table service we never got a refill (but we also didn't ask). I ordered the Arnold Palmer which came in a lovely mason jar and it was refreshing!! My friends enjoyed the summer tea, although it is NOT sweet if that is something you want. For this meal pictured I paid $24 - higher than expected but largely due to the $10 loaded queso. Plenty of outdoor seating and also some indoor seating. I'm glad to have a taste of tex mex in LA!!! Definitely my go-to for breakfast burritos and queso.

Yelp
The food here is great! It does get quite busy, but the line moves quickly. Service is very friendly and the kitchen is on point with dealing with the many customers they have. I really enjoyed their Frito pie in a bag as well as the picadillo tacos. Delicious salsa, great Friday, there is something for everyone! Prices in portions are fair, this makes for a great breakfast, lunch or dinner in the area, worth checking out!

Yelp
I love homestate! If you like breakfast tacos, you'll love Homestate too. Their brisket is juicy and meaty, tortilla is the perfect size as well. I tried the frito pie since it reminded me of college and I got the nostalgic taste I was looking for. The queso is also really good, I would drizzle everything with the queso if I had enough. The service is quick and efficient, they'll bring the food out to you and there's a separate water station. The ambiance is chill. Outside seating with heaters, and cool decor as well. I wish there was Homestate closer to where I live.

Yelp
I found HomeState by accident after visiting a nearby coffee shop. I noticed the words "Breakfast Tacos" lit up on the shop's exterior. My boyfriend and I immediately made plans to try the tacos after getting our coffee. HomeState looked busy, yet the line moved quickly, and the food came out immediately. The service was welcoming and friendly, and the prices were extremely reasonable. The breakfast tacos tasted terrific, and after eating two and a half of the three I ordered, I was full. For two people, three tacos each, I only paid $20. The quality was excellent, and the outdoor seating was cute and relaxing. We have been talking about HomeState all day and how we are already excited to come back!

Yelp
Great lil TexMex joint! My normal order/faves is the Blanco (egg white, shiitake mushrooms and cheese) for breakfast, and then I save the Chicken and a side of black beans and cheese for lunch. They're tacos but very filling, that's why I usually just have one per meal. I've tried others too like the brisket and pecos which is decent as well. Back to the beans-- idk what they do to these beans but they're cooked to perfection! I normally order delivery as their prime time is weekend mornings and there's a line out the door. I came in during the week like 2:30ish and no line. Tacos and beans are consistent in taste whether you order delivery or dine in. Highly recommend!

Yelp
So I purchased 4 different tacos. The tortilla I think is hand made and tastes very fresh with a good chewy consistency and is browned a bit to give that slight burnt taste which I love. The trinity taco was essentially a regular breakfast burrito but in a taco form. The don't mess with Texas was my favorite which is the above plus I think chorizo and refried beans. I would definitely order only these in the future. The brisket was good and I was thinking it was going to be smoked like a Texas brisket was it was oven cooked. The amount of meat was definitely worth it so if you're going for protein content then this is it. The taco was pretty soggy though. I don't recall the last one as it was their limited time only one, but it was avocado, scrambled eggs, pick de gallo and I believe potatoes. This was a real let down as there wasn't really seasoned and just tasted like bland. The salsa they provide is not hot at all, which is good for me, but there's not much flavor either. Had a margarita which was relatively pricey at ~$16 and was mostly ice for the 16 oz version (it felt much smaller than a pint glass so I think it was more like 12oz max) The sugared tortilla is just like a chirp and at $3.50 was a great deal! The restaurant is dog friendly and has a good atmosphere. I'd definitely recommend the place.

Yelp
Their food is better than I always expect it to be. The Trinity (bacon, egg, and cheese, potatoes) and the potatoes and queso are delicious. In fact, the queso might be my favorite thing from Homestate. If I could take the queso from Homestate and the beef from Loqui, I think I would have the perfect components for nachos. PARKING: LOL good luck. There's street parking, but it's always chaos with blue bottle next door, the tech companies, and the park.

Yelp
Tried 5 different tacos and they were all bad. Extremely flavorless and incredibly soggy, even though we ate them right away at the restaurant. Not even just slightly soggy - so soggy they were literally falling apart and dripping when we got them. Maybe it was partly because they wrapped them in foil, maybe they were sitting there precooked too long. But also pretty sure it was the eggs and all the liquid from how they cooked the eggs. The soggy eggs ruined the crispy potatoes. It was baffling how flavorless everything was, even putting a bunch of salsa barely helped to add flavor.

Yelp
HomeState is our favorite breakfast taco spot! I always get the Potato taco and Blanco taco. If you love mushrooms, the Blanco is the way to go! The staff is always so friendly and helpful. We love going to the Playa Vista location!

Yelp
Homestate is always a great spot for a quick lunch or dinner! Their crispy potatoes are a must-get and the margarita is very tasty and strong. This location is more lowkey than the others, in the Playa Vista neighborhood, with plenty of outdoor seating and parking available
