Homestead Creamery

Google
What a delightful place and a popular lunch spot! The ice cream was wonderful, and the variety of gourmet goodies gave us the opportunity to buy Virginia peanuts and toffee covered Virginia peanuts! (So yum!) They also have coffee for coffee lovers who love to try variety. Service was friendly and welcoming! This place is definitely worth a stop and a return visit.

Google
Oh this was just absolutely wonderful ! Part of it was time with relatives. But Homestead Creamery was really awesome. Nice lunch sandwich food. BBQ, Hot dogs with chili and of course ice cream! Super fresh and creamy. Milked and made right on site it seems. It's a favorite. Note the pictures of the 2.5 gallons of creamy goodness!

Google
um 10000/10 !!! pretty sure your milk cleared up my hormonal acne. i usually drink just regular whole milk, and since switching to only drinking your milk, my skin has been so clear. i love milk and drink a lot of it, and i had no idea the other milk was giving me acne. i’m shook and so thankful :) you guys are the best!!!!

Google
I love making the trip from Salem to bring my daughter. The ice cream is delicious. However my daughter is in a wheelchair and the parking lot is definitely not wheelchair friendly. When we do come we usually have to eat our ice cream in the car.

Google
We were so pleased with the amount of ice cream served, the cute environment, and the many other special things available for sale here in the store! When we're in the area again we'll definitely be back! For those visiting with kids, you'll be glad as I was that the bathroom was big enough and clean enough to take the little ones in there without issue.

Google
The best Ice cream I've ever tasted! It's amazing 😊 I couldn't decide on which flavor to try 1st SO I picked 3 and the Apple Pie I bought to bring home lol. I had Strawberry, Peach and Blueberry Pomegranate is in the picture. Highly recommended stopping in on your trip to or from the lake too 😋😍

Google
Some of the best sandwiches an ice cream on the lake.

Google
Purchased a carton of banana at the butchery shop in south hill. It was gritty as if thawed and refrozen. They kindly exchanged it for another carton but the consistency was almost as bad. Not sure if this is a problem with their refrigeration or the delivery truck. Banana not recommended.

Yelp
Ice cream makes everything better. Homestead Creamery is down the road from Kroger. The creamery has lots of home made treats. There are lots of ice cream flavors, milk, baked goods and produce. There are sandwiches and other items available. You can sample the ice cream before purchasing. The seasonal pumpkin was good. The crunchy lemon is strong and great. My favorite flavor is banana. Grocery stores carry some of the flavors. Customers can also purchase any flavor in the store and have it packed into a pint container. The gift shop area has a nice selection of souvenirs and toys. The shirt selection is minimal. The weather was nice so we ate outside. This is the perfect place to have a treat.

Yelp
Homestead Creamery ice cream was the perfect treat to end my trip to Virginia. It's a small, locally owned business serving farmhouse products, deli sandwiches, and ice cream. Everything is made with the freshest ingredients that are homegrown and locally sourced. I had high expectations for their ice cream after reading so many stellar reviews, and I'm happy to say I was not disappointed! There was a huge line when I came in the afternoon, but the employees were fast and efficient. They have a variety of flavors to choose from: classics, fruit-infused, savory, seasonal. I wanted to try something new so I tried the Key Lime Pie flavor in a small cup ($4.99). It was sooo creamy and tasted exactly like the pie- tangy and sweet! I also loved that it had bits of graham cracker in it. They have a decent amount of outdoor seating, but it gets crowded very quickly. Don't forget to check out their products! They sell their own ice cream in pints + quarts, milk, baking ingredients, pastries, sauces, etc. I live in NJ and I found out that they sell some of their products in Wegmans and Whole Foods (select locations)... I'm grateful for that :)

Yelp
ALWAYS Homestead Creamery for Ice Cream - the big question is what flavors, & which flavor goes on the bottom & which flavor is on top! Always YUMMY GOOD!!! Strawberry on the bottom & peach on top; O so good! YUMMY YUMMY GOOD!!!

Edwin J.

Yelp
Cute place. Completely ridiculous its closed on sunday. Basically for people who work 9-5 5 days a week saturday is the only option. This is 100% choosing your personal preference over customers. Be closed monday it makes so much more sense!!

Yelp
I was thrilled when I found some of Homestead's products in my local Fresh Market in Charlotte, NC Having grown up on a dairly farm in the Mountain States, I am very picky about where my dairy products come from, and the processing involved in getting the products to market. The majority of options available from the regular grocer lack flavor and depth. That is not the case with Homestead!! I can honestly say that the flavor and texutre of the minimally processed milk, with a full bodied taste that comes from your excellent standards, truly take me back to my childhood. I'm a fan of milk again!! Note - I have not been to the actual creamery.

Nikole D.

Yelp
Cute little place...excellent ice cream!! The service was quick and the people were kind!! I sampled the espresso chip (which was delicious) but ultimately went with the strawberry cheesecake. I was NOT disappointed at all!! My husband had a key lime milkshake that was super yummy!! Really wish we lived closer, we'd be here all the time!! We will definitely be back when we are in the area

Lt W.

Yelp
We have been drinking Homestead Creamery Milk since 2012, so greater than 10y. It is the only milk we use. TBH, I am not a milk drinker but this milk has changed that, sort of. We both use it in our coffee. The Creamline is such a treat for coffee! The taste and texture is divine. Even the 2% is not like other brands watery milk. It has a good consistency and taste for everything except my coffee. The actual bonus, imnsho, are the glass bottles. One pays a deposit for this milk, however, that's refundable once the bottles are returned.

Yelp
This ice cream is delicious! So incredibly creamy. We went early and it was already busy. Got the vanilla and double chocolate. Both were great but I definitely think this was some of the best chocolate ice cream I've ever had. They also have a store with cheese, drinks, and sandwiches. We got a Mediterranean cheese and it was really good. The sandwiches looked good and we're Boars Head- if we were closer we would go back for lunch. Covid: Staff was kind and all had masks on :)

Yelp
We moved out here in October and this is one of our favorite places. Always try different flavors of ice cream and milk
google avatar

Chip D.

Yelp
Nice place for a sandwich and delicious ice cream. Also, there is a gift shop and you can buy their milk products, ice cream, and lemonade to go. My only suggestion would be to add one or two sugar free choices.
google avatar

Isabella C.

Yelp
Cute place on the side of the road to stop in and order a sandwich and/or ice cream. A little pricey but good food. The sandwiches are yummy but I asked for mine without mustard and they forgot so that was a bummer. They sell lots of locally sourced goodies such as candy, honey, soaps, flowers, juices, and well as their own milk or egg nog in glass jars. Recommend, fun activity for kids too!
google avatar

Marsala K.

Yelp
I've never actually been to Homestead Creamery. I will say this... the chocolate milk is TO DIE FOR. I swear by it. It even comes in a reusable glass bottle like the old days! I buy it at my local Whole Foods Market in Pittsburgh PA. I just discovered it is an adorable ice cream shop & I can't wait to check it out the next time I'm down there!
google avatar

Scott J.

Yelp
This place has great homemade ice cream and sandwiches. Whenever we're in the area visiting family, we always make at least one stop.
google avatar

Fran T.

Yelp
I have never had a bad experience here. The ice cream is delicious and they do not skimp on the amount they give you. I have yet to have a bad flavor here. The staff is so friendly and always willing to help out. The milk is so creamy and delicious.
google avatar

J.L. P.

Yelp
We always stop by when we're in the area. They have so many ice cream flavors there's always one or two or three that everyone chooses when we stop in. My personal favorite is peppermint, but it's seasonal so grab a pint or two or three while you can. The chocolate milk and lemonade are phenomenal. It's truly difficult to find anything that isn't superb here.

Yelp
A bit of a drive, but omg!!!!!! The best ice cream I've had in all of VIRGINIA And when my daughter asked for a chocolate shake, they asked her if she wanted chocolate or vanilla milk yummmmmmmy!!! I had a black cherry cone and the ice cream was just so smooth and creamy. Kiddos also picked up some fudge!

Steven R.

Yelp
OK but very pricy The employees do a great job taking care of the customers. There are a good number of options when it comes to ice cream.
google avatar

Brett S.

Yelp
Really good ice cream. It's heavy and thick. You can tell it's made from natural ingredients. I had a cup with two favors and it was very satisfying. Highly recommended! It's a must stop if your in the area.

Kae T.

Yelp
The products are great; but I liked the place so much better with the old owners. Way more products, places to sit and eat inside. You can actually tell that the employees are not as happy either. The dairy products are amazing; and for that reason, I'm giving it 3 stars.

Yelp
Yummmmmm! I wanted to stop in here last time I was at SML (last summer) but they were closed. So I rectified the situation during this trip. Stopped in on my birthday with my fiancee and mother to get some ice cream. I didn't have any, since I was planning to eat a big dinner and dessert, but I had a little of both of theirs. My fiancee ordered the Blueberry Cheesecake ice cream in a bowl and it was very delicious. It almost tasted just like blueberry muffins or something - yum yum yum. He also had a scoop of birthday cake ice cream on the underside of the bowl - I tried it but the blueberry was better. My mom went old school and did just a classic chocolate shake. It was SOOOO good. We saw their secret, they put their fresh chocolate milk in their chocolate shake. Genius. It was so thick and delicious - it tasted like a Wendy's frosty but so much better. I almost wanted to get one and have that instead of fried bananas with dinner later - but I was strong and only had about three bites. I didn't realize that it was like a legit farmer's market in there either - they had some huge yummy fresh produce like apples, lettuce, kale, carrots, squash, peppers, etc. Looked delicious. They had candies, salsa, chips, mixes for soup, and a section with fresh peanut butter (chocolate, honey, original). There is also a deli for fresh meat slices. Everything looked yummy --- I'll be coming back for one of those chocolate shakes next time I'm in town! Mmmm!

Yelp
Beat ice cream EVER! I'm lactose intolerant and I still got some. No regrets, will only risk the dairy intake at Homestead Creamery since it's farm to table quality dairy. They have so much more than just ice cream here too. This place does not disappoint. Can't wait to go back!

Jessica D.

Yelp
The ice cream is to die for!!! So full of flavor. The right thickness. It's like heaven for your mouth!!
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream and egg nog but bring a fat wallet cause it is an expensive visit!
google avatar

Kelly K.

Yelp
I was disappointed when I visited. I am a fan of their milk sold a grocery stores. I looked forward to checking out the creamery. When I visited it was busy. I got an ice cream cone and didn't like having to wait in a line to pay for it as it melted. They should have a separate cashier for ice cream or have customers pay first and get a token to get ice cream. The small store was crowded. I went outside to eat my ice cream. It was unpleasant with construction going on and with an employee using a fork lift to put out pumpkins right in front of where I was sitting. Noise and dust drove me to my car to finish my ice cream. I thought the ice cream was overly sweet. I have had much better ice crean elsewhere. I will buy their milk at the grocery stores though.

Yelp
What a great place to come to when you have a sweet tooth. The best eggnog and ice cream and everything is just delicious. If your in the area I'd recommend stopping by.
google avatar

Jenna R.

Yelp
Great place to go! It is out in the middle of nowhere but worth the drive. I started out ordering a panini which was AMAZING and fresh. I enjoyed it on the outdoor picnic tables and got to watch other guests petting the goats. I then went back and tried out the ice cream -blueberry cheesecake! And this was HANDS DOWN the best ice cream in my entire life. I also picked up a glass jar of chocolate milk and enjoyed that the rest of the week at home. YUMMY!

Kathy B.

Yelp
Creamy, dreamy ice cream! We stopped here for a couple cones and were not disappointed. Would like to come back and try the sandwiches sometime, but the counter was closed when we were there. Wish they were open on Sundays!

Kurt S.

Yelp
Great service, very smooth ice cream at a reasonable price. The place was clean and located on the main road. It was worth the stop and would do it again.
google avatar

Alyssa L.

Yelp
I have been drinking Homestead Creamery milk since I was a small child. I have always loved drinking their delicious milk, especially the cream line milk with the gold cap. I also enjoy the little shop. More recently, I visited and tried their Blueberry Pomegranate ice cream, and it is now one of my favorites. I look forward to buying it and keeping it in my freezer. I hope to keep Homestead Creamery as a staple in my kitchen for a long time to come.

Anna G.

Yelp
This place is such a gem! The ice cream is amazing. I recommend the dark chocolate and strawberry.

Debora M.

Yelp
Great food and ice cream and the people are so friendly. Definitely a hidden gem in Franklin county va.
google avatar

Yelp
Review based solely on the ice cream sold at grocery stores Vanilla - probably the best vanilla I've ever had. So creamy, so smooth, and so soft. Amazing Black Raspberry - great flavor, very creamy but not as much as vanilla. Very solid Chocolate - pretty disappointing, grainy texture, not very creamy and does not melt well Please send more flavors to grocery stores (ahem cookies and cream). The only one I haven't tried from my local store is butter pecan
google avatar

Keri J.

Yelp
My family loves the ice cream from here. We also tried their sandwiches. They were great. They had a nice selection. Try the pimento cheese spread from the deli cooler. Meats were fresh and salads were local!

Clayton H.

Yelp
The new hours of operation and deli hours suck! What kind of ice cream parlor closes at 6:00pm? You cant even get there after dinner, "they're closed!" I have no problem with the product just the hours of operation. The deli is only open for lunch? I hope this review will make to the owners/managers of the homestead creamery.

Brian M.

Yelp
Frequently stop here for a treat after returning from the lake. Kinda wish they were open on Sundays too...
google avatar

Jeff T.

Yelp
The best ice cream in the area. Yet, also they have fresh produce, milk, salsa, jams and herbs of all sorts. Serve fresh food to match. This is a small place in the country that packs a large punch.

Butch W.

Yelp
Can't ask for more. We are a weekly delivery customer. Our delivery person (Brian) is prompt, friendly, customer focused & always smiling. Love their products. You have to try to believe . Update 8/19: one year + since beginning our service from Homestead, they are nothing short of the model of excellence provider for local home delivery & products. Do not hesitate. They are great.
google avatar

Jenny P.

Yelp
Always have to go here when we're in the area! Love their chicken salad and ice cream! Have to get the egg nog when it's in season, too!!! My kids love to play with the goats!
google avatar

Deanna M.

Yelp
Love everything about this place! Ice cream, homemade breads, homemade salads, pimento cheese and deli sandwiches made with Boars Head meat. Everything I've tried has been delicious.
google avatar

George M.

Yelp
Delicious creamy ice cream! This is a must visit if you're an ice cream lover. Good little store too.

Yelp
We've stopped in to the Homestead Creamery the first time with some family. Wow, were we impressed. This is a true creamery, fresh milk...in bottles. We brought them home because we couldn't return them (9 hour drive) for a refund. They turned out to be a good souvenir. While inside we had to have some hand dipped ice cream, talk about delicious. My only regret is we live too far away to make this a weekly stop in our routine. Stop in, try them out you won't be disappointed!!
google avatar

Kara R.

Yelp
We have yet to go to Homestead Creamery, but have been buying their milk from Kroger for the past few months. It's a wonderful deal - for $2.99 + $2 bottle deposit, we get fresh, local, organic, delicious milk that is in an environmentally friendly glass, reusable bottle. When we finish with the bottle, we just rinse it and turn it in to the customer service desk at whatever Kroger we are shopping at to get our deposit back. The Homestead Creamery milk really does taste better than all the others we've had. Even the skim milk has a pure flavor that can't be beat. On our more gluttonous days, we have caved and bought the chocolate milk, which is a real treat! Instead of a wine or beer nightcap, we can be found sitting on our balcony drinking a glass of chocolate milk before bed. Seriously.

Claire G.

Yelp
Maybe the best ice cream I've ever had. Not exaggerating! Luxuriously creamy and a fun selection of flavors. The store is fun, too, with lots of fresh produce and local foods.
google avatar

Matthew B.

Yelp
Awesome Milk. Awesome Ice Cream. Nuff Said. Seriously though, if you aren't supporting this organization, you should be! Their products are great and it's the only milk that I drink straight (without cereal or vodka) Take care and savor it up!
google avatar

Madeline T.

Yelp
I was first introduced to Homestead Creamery when I saw their milk and heavy cream in the grocery store and decided to give it a try. Who can resist a glass bottle? Their milk and heavy cream was by far the best I have ever had. I find the texture much more thick, creamy, and rich than other versions of liquid dairy. So I knew I had to visit this store/cafe. Not only to order ice cream, but also to try more of their milks (they don't sell heavy cream in the stores near me). The store is a bit in the middle of nowhere, but that adds to the fun of going! When I arrived their I was greeted by their charming store front. Clean, old-fashioned, and quaint are some words that come to mind. Inside their are various grocery items (meats, cheeses, candy, mixes, dips), much of it local. I enjoyed getting some peanut butter freshly ground out of a little peanut grinding machine! In addition, there was also a cafe menu of savory things, but I didn't try any of it, maybe next time. I of course tried their ice cream (my main reason for going) and I also bought some produce, milk, and sausage--all very tasty. The ice cream was delicious (I had 2 scoops: rum raisin and pumpkin pie) and I am looking forward to my next visit to get more!

Rick R.

Yelp
We love the milk & ice cream. The service needs work. We have had items left off our sandwiches, our food order given to someone else & we were shorted on our bottle deposit. For the prices I would expect better service.
