The Best Sports Bars in the East Bay

"The East Bay branch of Hometown Heroes reps Oakland with Warriors and Athletics gear on the walls and games on the screens. It’s a little small and you can’t see the TVs well from the spacious patio, but Hometown Heroes makes up for it with its festive cocktails like the Rickey Henderson (rum, blue curacao, pineapple) and elevated Filipino food via the pop-up Likha." - Janelle Bitker

This place goes by "hidden spot" food was delicious...the wagyu burgers were the best. The house sauce goes great with fries.. they make a good Old fashion. Not very big on the inside but they do offer outside seating

Good food and service! While our server was very dour and unsmiling (at least not one that showed any teeth or made it to her eyes) we received a great welcome and accommodating service. Seats and tables were moved to accommodate my wheelchair bound Mother without us asking! The Garlic Honeybutter chicken is worth stopping in but everything was delicious! Thank you Michael for outstanding service!

This is a hard place to rate. The owner was wonderful, but the waitress was rude. Like extremely rude. When you go to a restaurant you should leave feeling satisfied. I left feeling hurt. It was REALLY bad. I wasn't able to eat because I didn't get my food until after all the other people in my party ate and my stomach was in knots because of the foul treatment. I couldn't eat. But the owner didn't charge me for my drink.

Stopped here for happy hour on holloween to wait for traffic to die down in Oakland....staff is wonderful, friendly, great service and environment. Awesome for indoor and outdoor and apparently have a killer kareoke and other pop up events. Check em out, definitely coming back when in the area....great selection of liquors and a handful of local and domestic draft beers

If you are looking for a cool place to hangout after work or to watch the game this is the place for you. I don’t drink adult drinks so I this review is just for the food and vibes. The food here is fantastic! My coworkers have been trying to get me to go out after work to get drinks for a long time. After work I’m always busy with family stuff. Until one day we got to leave work early. I was so happy I did! I got to hangout with cool folks and I also got to try some really juicy burgers and crispy onion rings. They have a small patio seating and also a few table and chairs inside. The vibe here cool. A mix of sports fans and locals. I will definitely be returning.

The atmosphere was cool, the folks were friendly and the prices reasonable. I was a little put off by the lumpia... It looked and tasted processed 😟 I was a little disappointed, I had hoped this was my new local lumpia sip and chill spot. Alas... t'was not to be. The homie had a pork dish, Garlic fries and The Adobo chicken and was very pleased. I can't speak on the pour, I had a San Miguel -to go with the lumpia *sigh* I'll definitely go by again to see how the lumpia is doing and to check out the bar. Overall is a cool lil spot to have a beer and check out a game.

Google
Really like this place... This food is pretty good and it is prepared timely. I suggest that if you order online for pick up, arrive a few minutes before 'cause it rarely takes them as long as the estimated time suggests. It is definitely my go to for quick bites that taste really good. The food is a little pricey, but the quality is worth it.

Google
I attended the Properly Seasoned pop-up today. The macaroni and cheese was extremely flavorful and the greens were very good. The service was good and the drinks were strong. There was outdoor seating available.

Yelp
Love their sandwiches + fries! Great beers, good neighborhood spot with great food and easy, low-key atmosphere. I don't love the chicken wings (too bready to me) but the sandwiches are so good.

Yelp
I was reviewing a spot and I think I wrote a review of another spot similar in name sorry We went here after searching for a good Philly cheese sandwich and this place popped up. Along with Filipino dishes however only in Tuesday do they serve Filipino food. Which was sad but makes us have to come out again on a Tuesday. Good service, good food and tasty sandwich they have wings too which we have to try also.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this spot! Came here for some drinks and food. They have tvs and were playing the Lakers game which was nice. This place is great for groups! We got some beers and a cocktail. Sadly, they dont have a cocktail menu but they do have a really good bartender! He asked what kind and of drinks I liked and I said sweet/sour tequila and he made someone sooo delicious!! Food- we ordered the garlic parmesan wings and the Sunday Morning burger which were both cooked to perfection! The burger was extremely juicy and they cooked it medium rare, just how I like it. I cant wait to come back!

Yelp
One of the best burgers I've ever had! I stopped in on this rainy Saturday evening after having heard these burgers are amazing - and it did not disappoint! The staff were super friendly, the vibe was lowkey (low lighting and all tvs had different sports games on), and my Original burger was on point. I can't wait to come back here to try more!

Yelp
Cold beer, delicious burgers, fat wings and chicken bites that are bomb as hell. Only problem I had was they only give you one flavor choice for order of 10 wings. I asked if I could get 5 and 5 of two different flavors but got a big no as an answer- didn't like that. Also charge you extra if you change green onions for grilled ones. Nice big TVs to watch games while grubbing out though.

Yelp
My classmates were telling me about this place and wanted to give this place a try. We came here on a Saturday right after class and it was very hot outside and we were starving!! When we got there we were greeted right away and we could sit wherever we like. We decided to sit at the bar since we were going to get our drink on! One of my classmates said last time she ordered the chicken bites and they were spicy afff!! Which I had to give it a shot since I love spicy food and always up for a challenge! I'm Latina so of course I had to order me a round and see what the hype is about! While we waited I ordered myself a hometown lemonade with tequila instead of vodka. One of my classmates got the same thing but with Henny instead of vodka which made her drink come out to a light brown color. Then our food came and I took a bit out of the chicken bites and ohhhh mannnn that shi*t was spicy afffff but so damn good at the same time!!! I love Spicy food and this shit hit the spot but it was too damn spicy. My bf is a spice head too but loves his food way more spicier than I do so he would love this!! Since this is in Oakland I definitely have to bring him by since it's not to far. My drink was really good where I ordered myself another one! I ordered myself a couple shots to of tequila and man I was sooo turned lol. Definitely would love to come back and order some food and some drinks!!

Yelp
Hometown Heroes East Bay is a really cute and chill place to grab some food or even just drinks. They have a pretty large menu of food and lots of craft cocktails, wine and beer to choose from. We stopped in here a couple of weekends ago and had a great experience! It was not too busy when we stopped in so we were able to quickly order our food and drinks. We tried the hottie totties, firefighter karaage chicken sandwich and a couple craft cocktails. The firefighter was so spicy and so delicious. The hottie totties weren't as spicy but they were still so good. I'd definitely recommend stopping by for food and drinks. They have a couple TVs inside as well to watch the games!

Yelp
Been wanting to explore Emeryville for awhile and I'm glad I stumbled upon this place from other Yelp reviews! Let me tell you the highlight of this meal was definitely "The Hidden" wagyu burger. If you like your burgers meaty, juicy and flavorful, this is it! Plus it's 1/2 Wagyu patty!! I've paid WAY more for something like this before. I will say it does have a kick though due to the chili in it but overall it pairs nice with the sweetness and savory it offers. Definitely couldn't finish it all and had some leftovers for later. Onion rings were solid, but was surprised to see its $1 for a side of ranch. Interior looked very cool, reppin the Bay Area vibes and a good amount of people were here on a Thursday night. Staff was also helpful, and I was pleased that our food came out on time for a to-go order. Only thing is I would look on their website for current menu items as well as an increase in their actual prices on some items. Overall cool little spot on the corner in the city. Definitely want to come back and try their drinks as well as some Filipino apps.

Yelp
Hella good burger. Cool and attentive staff. A little pricey but a good example of "you get what you pay for". Good stuff!

Yelp
i really enjoyed my trip to this restaurant! the food was pretty good. it was my first time trying sisig and i was not disappointed and the egg was perfectly cooked! not sure if it's still on the menu but if it is i would definitely get it a try with some cold beer. the service was ok, no complaints here. it felt more like a bar when i went, the music was very loud and it was pretty crowded but after enjoying some drinks and trying the food i can see why. it's a really nice place to go to with some friends however would i say it's a must try, no.

Yelp
So I've been here a couple of times before shut down and recently came back after. Their kitchen has changed from serving Filipino dishes to The Hidden Spot. Everything is about the same except they have more TVs than I remember. A great place to catch a local sports game, but be sure to get there early since it gets pretty packed and it's not a big place. Also, bring wipes to wipe down your own table because I didn't see anyone staff person doing that. The poor bartender was the only dude all night and the bar line was nonstop. He couldn't even find time to go to the bathroom because there would be a customer in there too (yes, we were watching him, haha!) They really should have two bartenders even though it's a small bar, it would reduce the stress and wait time for everyone. The Hidden Spot is fire! Their burgers looked delicious as they were served at other tables, but I got their pesto chicken sandwich with all the veggies and it was probably one of the best I've had. There were even customers who just came in for the food-to-go (I never saw that before when it was the Filipino pop-up). They got a variety of things. Wings and tots, both regular or drizzled with sauce. Def would come back for a game or even just to order a sandwich to take home.

Yelp
Only tried the lemon pepper wings and fried shrimp. Both tasty. Wings were super fresh shrimp were just regular but the service was great nice people cool little sports bar

Yelp
Awesome and unexpected find. We came in hungry after a long day of furniture shopping and were expecting to sit outside with our dog. We were waved inside and told it was dog friendly. A friendly man even gave our pup a treat! The burgers were AMAZING! I got the 'kitchen' burger with kimchi and a fried egg. So good. Patties were nice and thick and cooked perfectly. Ambiance was perfect. People there but not packed. Service was amazing. Staff all super friendly. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We were here for two hours and the waitress came by once. Totally ignored pretty much the whole time.
google avatar

Kamryn W.

Yelp
Warm beer is never a good thing in life. For a bar, that's gotta be an instant low star. You can't order with the bartender; you have to scan a QR card and order/pay online. I'm not sure where the food comes from, but it doesn't seem to be from the bar itself. It was completely empty inside on a Wednesday @ 3pm, and the wait time for food (just a sandwich) was 45 minutes to an hour. Must be coming from somewhere else in the general area. The menu and food is also very different than photos and reviews that have been shared here before on Yelp. See my attached photo for the current menu options. We closed out and left for elsewhere.

Yelp
Chicken Wings on point, cannot say the same for drinks though Honey Butter Garlic Wings - PERFECTION - DEFINITELY recommend, you will not regret. garlic strong, honey just right, the butter just pulls it all together. love it. MVP - kinda a meh take on Korean Fried Chicken, they did have some dried szechuan peppers in it like San Tung, but the flavor is lacking a lot of spice and character Mezcal Mule - overly sweet, would not come back for the drinks Service - a little cold blooded seeing as how the male bartender preferred to ask us to ring the button to order food (as first time customers, you would expect they could just push a button in front of them...I would expect a return customer to know the process) - originally female bartender took our order for a moscow mule rather than a mezcal mule, then blamed on me having my mask on (which i specifically took off so she could see me when I ordered), it we made them aware of the situation, however they had taken back what they gave us and upcharged for the mezcal after the fact that they messed up...unsure what kind of practice is this but it seems pretty rough Overall I will just come back for the wings if I'm in the area

Yelp
Love this place and the excellent cashier and server. She deserves a pay raise for being so friendly and energetic working solo taking orders and bringing our meals and condiments Ordered the Waugh beef sandwich and fries Everything came in fresh and yummy The sandwich is made medium rare that's how I like it and not even soggy, top it off with a fried egg and kimchi, voila Good combo Definitely love to return

Yelp
Great location and the vibe was cool. The staff was really helpful and inviting. I really like the spins they put on the menu options. Not just a spot to grab food, but looked great for socializing as well. Will definitely be back, as this was a pleasant surprise.

Yelp
Given this place's high reviews I'd hoped for a better experience today. Want to lead by saying the fries and burgers were solid and this lackluster review is for the cold service and really high prices. I got a veggie burger and asked to sub the bacon on my burger for avocado since avocado costs less than bacon per their menu. What I ended up getting was further nickel and dimed. Plus by making it a beyond burger it cost $24.50 and doesn't come with fries. Yeah, that's too much, like an embarrassing price.

Laura L.

Yelp
Yelp indicates that the kitchen is open late, but apparently that has changed with new ownership. They said they can't get Yelp to update. So call before you go.
google avatar

Jay S.

Yelp
This place kept showing up on my emails and I've held it on my to-do list because their burgers look AMAZING. They definitely did not disappoint! Really great serving sizes for their sides, too. Something to keep in mind -- it's cold. Not the food, the temperature. Even inside. It's like the cold air seeps in through even the lowest cracks of the building.
google avatar

Yelp
The service sucks. My partner and I came in at a very chill time where it was not busy at all and there was four or five open tables. Our waiter asked us if we wanted anything to drink and we said we would need a couple more minutes. Then ten minutes passed. Then twenty. Then thirty. So we just walked up to the counter and ordered to-go. Really sucks that our waiter was able to forget us when he only had two other tables in his section. Oh well.
google avatar

Yelp
The hidden spot empire grows. I'm not sure if it's an official collab (probably not since I had to pay for my beer and wings/tots separately). But as far as a bar, it seems like a decent sports bar with a nice outdoor area. I did find it odd that they were playing a heat/hawks game when there was a grizz/wolves game on at the same time (with bigger implications for the dubs). If you're gonna be a hometown heroes sports bar, you should know about stuff like that! My wings and tots from hidden spot were unsurprisingly great. I hope their rapid expansion doesn't affect their quality.

L M.

Yelp
Food, service, and atmosphere was very good! Five stars after the front door closer gets fixed! It was cold on one side of the restaurant.

Zhane M.

Yelp
Such a great vibe ! Loved it. Spent my self care mothers day here met people and they made me laugh so hard !

Yelp
One of the best bars to watch a game/fight. The crowd is always diverse in age/sex/race, there's a variety of alcohol to tickle your fancy, the vibe is super chill and friendly, and the staff are attentive and personable. Also, the food is great. Always a good time here so bring your good energy and smile cuz you'll end up making friends. Will visit again soon.

Yelp
Took my cousin to lunch. Just a random choice that was about a mile from her Airbnb in Oakland. Menu looked good; sandwiches with gluten free and veggie options. Could've had more soda options, but not a big deal. Speaking of sodas, my cousin's Coke was lukewarm. When I asked the server for another for replacement, the server literally walked over to the table, took the Coke, and walked into the kitchen. She did not say a word like "oh sorry about that" or "I'll be right back". Furthermore, she had a look of utter displeasure on her face. She look like she hated her job, And that I could not understand because she basically did nothing but bring food to customers. She took no orders, due to the rather unique system they have for ordering food; you use your smart phone code reader to bring up the menu on your phone and then you place the order. Anyway, after she brought the colder Coca-Cola back, and knowing that I had already given her a $10 tip, I was pretty much disappointed. The food was very good but the service was horrible, especially at a final tab of over $70, no alcohol. Wow!!!!..... I didn't see that one coming. If I was the owner of that restaurant and I knew how my employee was acting, she would've been fired on the spot. Don't get me wrong, I don't wish for anybody to be terminated, but when you don't even have to take orders from customers, and you walk around with an attitude like your feet hurt, then get another job? 2 stars because food was good.
google avatar

Yelp
Yo, I love this place!! I always get wings and drinks. The wings are always good and the bar tender is very friendly!
google avatar

Warren M.

Yelp
The best burger I ever I literally was just there 2 mins ago. The lady game my this box with a huge burger in it. My first thoughts she didn't listen when I said no Vegetables. Not only did she listen it was the best and biggest burger. The first bite was amazing I wanted to turn around and thank the chef but I didn't have time. You will see me again. I left this same review for the hidden spot because it was at the same address. This reviews is actually for Hometown Hero's. This review is from 12/21/2022
google avatar

Ariel E.

Yelp
Says happy hour Mon-Fri 4-6pm Here on a Friday at 5pm and the bartender said that he's never heard of the happy hour and charged me full price?
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
Came out for the Jushi Taimu popup because... why not. Dragged a friend with me and we ordered both the ebi and chicken burger + fried oysters. It was good, but just a loooot of fried food overall. The shishito peppers for $8 is a little pricey considering I bought a basket from the farmer's market and can make it myself. The oysters were perfectly cooked. This review is more for the ambiance because we didn't actually purchase anything from Hometown. The guys working there came outside to check on us and were all super nice. Great music and vibe overall. I'd definitely come back to try this place on another day.

Yolanda H.

Yelp
The sandwiches are so yummy and the ambience is very relaxing ! It's a litttle pricey but worth it
google avatar

Leanna L.

Yelp
I was less than impressed tbh. Had been wanting to come here for some time so was excited to give it a try. Met a coworker for drinks. Tried to order a Hot Toddy (pretty basic drink imo) bartender said they couldn't make that. Suggested an old fashion instead. I do with that and end up with a $20 drink! Yikes! Even with inflation that seemed steep. My coworker asked for Jack and Ginger ale but was told that didn't have Jack. She pointed to the full bottle on the shelf...bartender very reluctantly gave her the drink (also $20). It just wasn't a good value or experience. The food was mediocre, drinks just serviceable, and The inside was freezing cold! Sad to say I don't think I'd come back again.

Yelp
Nice chill neighborhood spot. Great food, great service, great drinks. Great place to catch up on game day! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Shane , the wonderful bartender, is a creative genius who makes one of the best whisky sours I have ever had, very pleasant and personable! -Melissa & Ana

Yelp
My friend and I came here last minute for a quick bite! Everything was super fresh and tasted so good. The bartender was super sweet, and the environment inside was great. Huge TVs, not too bright, super lowkey vibes. Only thing, it was hella cold in there ... lol. BUT we were able to turn on a heater when sitting at the bar. 10 out of 10.
google avatar

Johnny L.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar with awesome sandwiches and fast and friendly service. With big TVs through out so you won't miss any sports moments
google avatar

Shirene B.

Yelp
I came here to watch the A's game with my bf after perusing about Bay Street. I was super excited to see some of Tony PSD's artwork on display as I follow him on IG. Bar had a cool vibe to it, even though it was late in the afternoon and not quite the time for folks to roll through after work. I started with a "Where Culture Meets the People", while my bf had the "Boujee in a Dive Bar". For opening bites we had the lumpia and adobo wings. Both were good, but I think we both were thinking they're be a little more veggies in the lumpia. Wings were tasty but pretty small. Second round of drinks included the NoLa Face Oakland Booty which was pretty boozy and delicious. We had a couple of sisig's that were really good too. I had the pork belly and bf had the fish. I would definitely return for drinks and possibly to try more of the food offerings.
google avatar

Vanni C.

Yelp
This venue is perfect for small events or a regular night out They have an out door patio which make social distancing fairly easy In addition to being a bar there is also a kitchen in the back Their wings 5/5 Chicken sandwhich 5/5 Bar tender also a 5/5 - i order a Kentucky mule but they didn't have ginger beer and despite not being a fan of sweet sodas he was some how able to make the drink using bitters and replacement ingredients and it tasted as if it was made with actual ginger beer. They also have games behind the bar which makes it a good place for groups And i think its black owned
google avatar

Tia T.

Yelp
If you are looking for a sport bar with lots of light, that serves different types of bar food, with a cute patio, then this is the place to be.
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
Disappointing. Why are the food highlights all Filipino food yet they informed me that they stopped serving Filipino food December 2019... All they have are bar basics like chicken wings and sliders. The worst part is... they don't even serve beer. Just cocktail drinks. I was eyeing the hazelnut chocolate beer I saw on their photos, but there's no beer at all.... :( Maybe their food is good. I wouldn't know. Their previous menu would've been ideal.

Jason P.

Yelp
Awesome food, atmosphere is great. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Life within walking distance I'll be back soon!

Yelp
Hometown Heroes is my trusty low key neighborhood bar. I love the fact that it's in my hood and I could just walk over. I think they have another location in South San Francisco and the owner also has the Trademark and Copyright bar in SF. I guess you could call it a sports bar b/c they usually have some sort of games playing on their big screen TVs. In fact, I watched the World Cup finals here. It was so awesome drinking mimosas at 8am while watching soccer and cheering with strangers. Ambiance is hip and chill. The bartenders are super friendly. Mister is the crowds' favorite. He is always so personable and attentive. I often order wine so I have yet to try their cocktails but the food here is pretty great. The Filipino fusion food offerings hit the spot right! They recently started standup comedy nights on the first Tuesdays of every month from 8-9pm. I came once and it was decent. I will definitely back to support this business because I sincerely hope Hometown Heroes is here to stay. Come check it out and see for yourself!

Yelp
Came here with the whole R&D and Marketing team for happy hour / drinks/ dinner. I was looking forward to this because there's no Filipino food around the area but this place. We basically took over 4 tables by the outdoor patio. Everyone ordered their drinks and food from the menu provided. Its not really a sit down dinner place but more like a sports bar that offers food in bowls, small plates and tapas like. Team loved the food and service. I enjoyed my pork sisig. It was good portion and came with a cup of rice. Our table devoured the lumpia and ordered several kaldereta short ribs, garlic fries, adobo chicken wings, fried rice and palabok. Will definitely come back here with the group for more Happy hour. Parking could be tough if you come later but we were all there by 5 pm so parking was easy. Trust!!!

Yelp
My cousin and I were literally having a reunion we had not seen each other in over 18 years. When we left her loft, she suggested that we go check out a bar. The bar actually was kind of the whole reason I went with her to check out her loft and go have a drink and finish catching up as we had a lot of catching up to do. Our waiter was super nice (Mike) and very familiar with the spirits! He was wonderful in his suggestions and we really appreciated his professionalism. My cousin was really thirsty and this guy walked past and she was like " I'm sorry do you work here"? "He said "kind of" and she said oh I'm sorry I just really want some water. He goes well I'm the owner I'll make sure you get some... That was cool. We then proceeded to tell him how we had not seen each other in a very long time and the we were using this time to catch up. Troung (sp) the owner of the bar, was super nice!! Not arrogant but just very passionate about the bar(s) he owns. He stated that he wanted everyone to feel like heroes, teachers, firefighters etc. I really enjoyed his conversation. Then he was like well since it's a reunion your next round is on me! So, the owner of this place bought me and my cousin drinks!!

Yelp
I came here for my bday all alone (sad, right?!) and had a drink with the bartender. The drink was strong, everyone was friendly, and apparently (to everyone else) they have some type of trivia night. I love trivia night or games, in general. So I was very attracted to sticking around to see if another game was going to be played. I'd definitely go back. I loved the energy.
google avatar

WES P.

Yelp
Came here on out of the blue. Hands down a local spot!! Good food good drinks. The owner is proud to be there. Sit back and enjoy the food and drinks and people.

Yelp
Love this place. Always looking for a good sports bar in the area. They had around 6 or so TVs and a big screen/projector set up to watch the warriors play. Outdoor seating available too. Loved the decor inside, shout out to local. Big bonus is that Likha is on site to serve Pilipino food. Had pork adobo fried rice, pork belly sisig, and chicken lumpia. I want to open a place like this in Albany. Yes, please.

Cynthia J.

Yelp
The TVs were to loud for me to hear the menu recommendations. I ordered the empire sandwich. It was too hot for my liking. However, the waitress asked how was the food. I told her too hot and she redid my sandwich. That's was really kind. The bartender was pleasant. Nice place with outdoor seating. Great on a sunny day.

Yelp
Came here for brunch on a Sunday around 11:30am. Not much of a crowd so we got seated right away. Had some yummy Filipino food and cocktails and overall had a great experience. Here's what we ordered: Longanisa Spam Silog Pork Belly Tocino Silog Eggplant Omelette Rice Garlic Tater Tots Pork Lumpia Cocktails: Meet Me Taco Sinaloa, 31st and international boulevardier Loved the vibe, very chill yet classy and clean. Food was really good too and cocktails yummy. My fave was the garlic tater tots...so crispy and flavorful of garlic butter which went perfectly with the banana ketchup and mayo dipping sauces. Minus a star because I thought it was a little pricey for everything, but what isn't nowadays in the Bay Area. Shout out to Mister and Mikey for a great experience here!
