My family and I have been coming here forever. The heroes here are second to none! This is by far one of the best hero spots on Long Island! All the food is always fresh and hot. One of the most important parts of a hero is the bread and theirs is delicious! In my personal opinion my go to hero there is the Nor’Easter. I would certainly recommend Home Town Heroes!

Google
i found this shop on Instagram (we're foodies). We both love trying different places, but this was on another level. We drove almost 2 hours and it was totally worth it. I had the Mac Attack, which is basically chicken cutlet w/ macaroni and cheese on a hero. I had to bring it home because i couldn't finish it. My husband had their new sandwich (Jay Jay). It was fresh, filling, and delicious. Definitely recommend!!

Google
5 star heroes from a 5 star establishment!! They truly are top notch. My only complaint is that they don't have another location closer to me! That being said, they are WELL worth the drive. Highly, highly recommended.

I phoned in an order for a chicken Caesar wrap. It was lunchtime 12pm when I went to pick it up it was 15 minutes since I ordered. The girl at the counter asked if I was being helped I said I called in an order gave my phone number. They didn’t have my correct number and had to find my order. She said she found it and it will be a few minutes. After waiting another 18 minutes I looked at the clock and realized my lunch break was almost over. I asked if the wrap was ready they said one moment. It was not ready she said it’s going to be a few minutes. I couldn’t wait any longer and nor did they ring me up so I had to leave and return to work Thank you so much for your horrible service and wasting my lunch break…. I will never return as a customer to your shop

Google
Being a Long islander you would look at a deli with a 4.5 star review and think you’re definitely gonna get a great sandwich but coming here I wasted about $11 of my money. My sandwich had one slice of each meat on it and it was as light as a feather, if you’re looking for a sandwich with barely anything on it you’ll get that here. It’s a shame it seemed to have so much potential to then receive that

Google
I’ve never had a bad meal here. Everything from the sides to the sandwiches is always top quality and the portions are huge. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Mac and cheese bites. They are off the charts with the dipping sauce. I am a sucker for the nor’easter, chicken cutlets mozzarella bacon and bbq sauce. There’s more chicken cutlet and bacon on there than two sandwiches of any other deli. This is one of my favorite delis on Long Island.

Google
Great heroes and wraps! Fresh ingredients, generous portions, and friendly service. Always hits the spot. Highly recommend this deli!
google avatar

Pattie K.

Yelp
Wow! I was so impressed with the heroes we got! Each one was piled high and also was hot when I got them home. Yum!

Charles J.

Yelp
Restaurant is bright and clean! Service is great! The sandwiches are awesome! Packed with everything you asked for. Everything is fresh and delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Heard about this place but I'm never in West Islip. Went by and got the Italian combo and it was delicious. Fast service and nice store location.

Michael L.

Yelp
The food (ALL) is great! The service is as great as the food! You can't go wrong getting a hero from HOMETOWN!
google avatar

Yelp
First off - I LOVE sandwiches, so naturally I needed to try this place! Everything I've tried here is soooo delicious!!! Very hefty portions and fresh ingredients. I usually order the Mama Georgio which is perfection on a sandwich! Also love the hot pastrami and the curveball. Service is fast and efficient. Great spot to stop in quick, grab some heros and hit the beach.
google avatar

Kevin M.

Yelp
Had the rodeo hero and I highly recommend fries were decent had to put them in air fryer when I got home and I live less than 10 minutes from the place. I'd def recommend most of the heros on menu good food. There are better options but it's so close to my house I usually go hometown
google avatar

Brad J.

Yelp
what ever you do. do not order through uber!!! they doubled the charge and uber does not have a human to correct this theft!!!!
google avatar

Kimberly D.

Yelp
If I had to pick a last meal, I honestly think I would pick the Maneater from Hometown! It is by far the best sandwich/hero I've ever eaten. All of their heroes look and sound delicious, but I always find myself getting a Maneater because it's just that good. It's definitely not the healthiest option they have, but I cannot recommend it enough! I will have to branch out soon and try some other heroes! The staff has always been friendly and polite. I usually call my order in and go pick it up, but you can order online too! Always hot and ready in a timely manner. Can't wait for my next visit!
google avatar

Yelp
Their food without exception is wonderful Their heroes are so packed with goodness that it takes me 2 days to finish it highly recommend this eatery

Jovy R.

Yelp
Food is always good, portions huge, and customer service on point. We usually order every weekend (especially in summer). Never had a bad sandwich. Love the JJ wrap, and tuna. I've tried almost every sandwich and never left a crumb.
google avatar

Yelp
Great sandwich spot on your way to the beach on the south shore of Long Island. Wonderful service and a wide variety of sandwiches and heros. Great pricing and the sandwiches were all flavorful. I recommend the Italian as its great portions wonderful bread and hits the spot. The chicken cutlet heros are also good especially the cheddar and bacon. Make sure to have the sauce as it equals everything out. Will be back.
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
I've been ordering the chicken ceaser wrap for the past year or so and it never disappoints. I've also had the Mac and cheese bites and they're amazing. I would recommend hometown heroes!
google avatar

Kalena W.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious heroes. Definitely worth trying the house special hero or make your own combo hero.
google avatar

Joseph M.

Yelp
My son and I had the wonderful opportunity of trying the heros and fried mac and cheese. The heros were absolutely delicious! We first started our lunch off with the fried mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was nice and crispy on the outside - and creamy on the inside! They were very impressive but very filling! The heros were HUGE!!! for 13.99 we really got our moneys worth! I had the Toast of Broadway and my son had the Maneater!!! Both were delicious - Far exceeded anything I could have imagined! I want to come back and basically EAT thru the entire Lunch/Dinner Menu!!!!! If you want to see my experience - Please check our video of us eating all of this delicious food!!!!! https://youtu.be/fClwI9gYMo4

Yelp
My go to before a day at the beach!! Best sandwiches!! Great service. Worker are very polite.

Yelp
Was planning a birthday party for a one year old so of course it's mostly about food for the adults. I took a chance and ordered from here. Had an entire conversation about a gluten allergy and what my options were. Ordered the chicken hero with roasted red pepper and mozzarella. Discussed it being grilled chicken so I could use the hero filling to put on the salad I also ordered. Arrived to pick up the food and it was fried and breaded chicken cutlet on the hero. I was so upset that it was wrong and they were not helpful and their only solution was to just give me some pre-cooked chicken that they heated up and put in a to-go container. I was so mad I didn't know what to do or say and the solution was crappy. I paid $250 for food and the food and leftovers went to other people because I couldn't touch it. Don't order catering from here.
google avatar

Lexie L.

Yelp
Every single time we've gone to this place since they've changed owners, there has been a problem every time. They prices are astronomical. My husband just went to pick up our online order and they tried to convince him it wasn't paid for and tried to charge him again, you can't even order online without paying so of course it was paid for.... We got chicken Caesar salad wraps and they were mediocre at best for $10 a wrap
google avatar

Aikeem V.

Yelp
I ordered a tuna hero which was good. The bread makes the sandwich. I don't know what secret ingredient that is. But this place is a go. Service is relatively fast, but it looks like it can get busy quickly! Hometown hero is definitely a hometown fav!
google avatar

Melissa V.

Yelp
I just can't find anything wrong to say- other than I eat the whole hero and feel soo incredibly full. Takeout every time has been nothing but amazing. Honestly, you will not regret it. The only thing is they do close early so you'll have to order before dinner time. We ordered the Italian Hero and Noreastern and Buffalo chicken sandwich. Honestly? Everything has been nothing but delicious.

Ken S.

Yelp
Food is always accurate. Very good blend of spices on cold hero's. Great rare Roast Beef!
google avatar

Joanne P.

Yelp
Disappointed that I swayed from what I originally planned on getting which was the Instagram Mac attack sandwich. I ended up getting the goomba special which was mozzarella sticks, chicken cutlets and marinara on garlic bread...it was mediocre at best. The roll wasn't toasted so it was too messy to eat and the sauce wasn't that good. I also had the foodie card but a few of the workers didn't even know what it was but they still gave me the 10% off. I'll give it another shot because it's semi local to me and I still wanna try the Mac and cheese!

Carole M.

Yelp
One of my go to places on door dash. Hero's are very good. Bread always fresh. The Devito hero is one of our favorites.
google avatar

Yvonne C.

Yelp
Great food! Love the place very clean and reasonless priced! Good service fast and fresh!
google avatar

Kerri B.

Yelp
This place is A++....They use local fresh ingredients and there are so many choices for heros and wraps, you can't go wrong! I love the Chik N Berry Wrap, and the Fried Mac. Also tried a bite or two of the Mac Attack, just as great...who doesn't love ooey gooey mac n cheese?!?
google avatar

Brittney B.

Yelp
Got the spicy chicken and there was not bbq sauce. Sandwich was so dry. Also it wasn't busy so idk how they messed that up
google avatar

Billy S.

Yelp
Horrible service , have been going to them since they were in Lindenhurst. Never again, worse every time i go, heroes are all bread no cold cuts, keep raising their prices, nothing to them anymore . Asked for x tra oil/vinegar wanted to charge .75 cents seriously??? There are no cold cuts, nasty horrible service Dont waste ur time or money . Done with them !!!!!! They turned off comments on other social media just shows they stack their reviews
google avatar

Dianna M.

Yelp
Mac Attack FTW! So honestly I can't tell you what this sandwich is like when you buy it. My husband's work buddies pick up sandwiches every once in a while. My husband eats half for lunch and brings half home... which I eat the next day. Even reheating it (I take off the chicken and Mac and microwave it, and retoast the bread) makes for a great sandwich so I can only imagine how good it is fresh.
google avatar

Birbs and B.

Yelp
Very good service. They are very nice people who make mouth watering food. Honestly better than subway.
google avatar

Kathryn K.

Yelp
My friends are crazy and got many sandwiches to share. I simply got the BLT hero to share with a kid and we loved it. Can't really mess that up but their bread was amazing!! I need to know where they get it from. I will divinely come but for more in the future... unfortunately this time around i had some diet restrictions!!! Stay open cause ill be come back!
google avatar

Bridget P.

Yelp
Sure, the sandwiches may be a few bucks higher than your local deli but this isn't just your local deli. Hometown heroes knows how to put fresh ingredients together while adding their own pizzazz. We recently tried the mama Giorgio's, the lighthouse and the patty melt. Each was even better than the descriptions that enticed us in. The homemade Russian dressing on the patty melt is out of this world. I'll be asking for a side of that from now on, no matter what we get. Super friendly staff made our experience flawless.
google avatar

Yelp
Hometown Heroes in West Islip sometimes gets forgotten with the plethora of great sandwich joints we have here on Long Island. I personally think their hot chicken cutlet sandwiches rival the best. The cold heroes def leave some to be desired but once I figured that out every trip has been a success. They fry up their chicken cutlets per order so you are always getting hot and crispy chicken. This is the supreme with no coleslaw with the works. We've got chicken cutlets, ham, mozz, lettuce, tomato, oil, extra vinegar on a toasted foot long. The range of the vinegar brings the entire show together. This thing is absolutely MASSIVE almost to the point of unmanageable. Def worth the 9.99 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

Michael Z.

Yelp
Got the Papa Georgio. Great tasting but the chicken was pathetic. So thin, dry and hard around the edges. Need some quality control. No respectable business would serve chicken in this shape. I wanted to get your opinion.
google avatar

Samantha C.

Yelp
While searching for the best sandwich places on LI I found Hometown Heroes. There hasn't been anything I've ordered from there that wasn't good. While visiting with friends in West Islip today, I quickly learned not only do they have the best sandwiches in town, but they also deliver! Sandwiches came quickly and they were just as good if I were to eat them in the shop!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been meaning to come here for some time and I finally did tonight. This place does not disappoint! The girls at the front were super friendly and I also got to meet the owner Dan, great guy! Tried out: the waffle fries (the sour cream, cheese, bacon, and onion dip it comes with is crack) fried Mac and cheese bites which were perfectly crispy, the "maneater" hero, the special "veg head" the "patty Mac" and "fursh" All the sandwiches were loaded and super fresh. The veg head was all vegetables and they were cooked perfectly and the pesto mayo made the sandwich! If you like big macs/burgers the patty Mac is a must try. The homemade Russian dressing gives it that iconic "Mac" taste. I came with friends so we shared our hero's so we could try as much as possible. :) All hero's were priced under $10 and were huge. I dropped off a hero to my dad the "manhattan" and he loved it and won't stop talking about the roast beef in it. (Roast beef made in house!) I'll be back for sure.
google avatar

Eileen O.

Yelp
The contents of their heroes are amazing, but sadly the bread is not. If they used better bread that wasn't "rubbery," this place would be a 5 star spot.
google avatar

John A.

Yelp
I had 3 burgers this week and my girlfriend just one tonight and her review was it was awesome great service, cool staff and cold beers
google avatar

Ellisha H.

Yelp
So fresh...so tasty...so polite, and accuracy is the key. They were on the money with our order. It is lunch time at the shop and nobody was waiting for me to take pics..plus the food is really good.Wherever this bread comes from,I sure need to know! The shop is very clean and the staff is friendly. We got a cappy&american extra mayo fo rrd Sweetheart,Chicken fingers w fries and ranch..and rare roast beef onions o&v lettuce tomatoe for me.Everything was as ordered and sizeable. Those fingers were large very large and well fried. As I type I am stuffing the last bite in...it is too good to put down.PS,they deliver locally. We will deff be having lunch from here again
google avatar

Erica W.

Yelp
My new favorite sandwich shop. There, I said it. There was a slight hiccup when I picked up my online order, but they apologized and explained the problem. They made my food quickly and I wasn't waiting more than a few minutes. I got my guilty pleasure, an Italian hero. I love that it's super vinegary. I wish the onions were red instead of white but that's personal preference. Salt and pepper is always a nice touch. Everything's super fresh! And an awesome value for $10! It's not often I learn about a new deli on instagram...but these guys looked too good to pass up. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Def V.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time today. Review reviews looked good, decided to go with the classic chicken cutlet. The sauce was okay the bread was okay but the chicken color was just tasteless It was like no salt no pepper just tasteless and overcooked I wasn't really impressed.
google avatar

Esther L.

Yelp
This is your hometown hero shop that you grew up around the corner from. If it was closer I would come here more often. The meats are fresh and the bread feels like it has a greater purpose than just being a holder for everything in it; it's very good bread. Get the works: lettuce, tomato, onion, oregano, oil, and vinegar and if you're a glutton like me, extra mayonnaise. The staff is friendly and the owner Dan is the man. This is a great sandwich shop.
google avatar

Denise A.

Yelp
Ordered an Italian hero. Overall, I think it was good and was put together well. However, the deli meat was sliced very thick. Might be a preference thing but it's not my ideal sandwich. I think the vinaigrette tasted good and was wrapped really well for our trip. The facility was clean and the workers wore gloves which was nice to see.

Angela V.

Yelp
This is the best deli in ALL of Long Island. I live no where near here and will take a 30-40 minute drive for it. Most delicious and squishy hero bread I've ever had.. and don't even get my started on their Mac and cheese. 10/10 recommend.
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
I think the picture says it all! The Instagram Mac attack is a huge hero stuffed with chicken cutlet, BACON, mozzarella, ranch, hot sauce topped with mac n cheese! I only made it through half this sandwich but it was delicious. Ton of flavor and the Mac n cheese was creamy!

C M.

Yelp
I got the chicken cutlet supreme. I added tomatoe and honey mustard on the side. Damn large amount of food this hero could feed 4 people. My only gripe was it was a little bland. Adding bacon would've probably given it more texture. Even with the garlic bread hero the texture of the whole sandwich was just soft. I had to add a sprinkle of salt over it as well as pepper. The thousand island dressing had no pickle relish and the honey mustard was more of a mild creamy mustard. They did give me a good amount of it on the side though. Coleslaw I had thought would've been the one made with oil/vinegar considering you are putting on a sandwich that has thousands island dressing. But the coleslaw has mayo. So that was alittle overwhelming mayo, dressing, breading making it rather heavy. Chicken breast of breaded and cooked just right. I will definitely be trying again.
google avatar

Rebecca M.

Yelp
I tested Hometown Heroes out with my favorite sandwich, grilled chicken, roasted peppers, extra motz and balsamic on a garlic hero. And WOW. I don't think I can order that heroe anywhere else after having it at Hometown Heroes. First off the subs are HUGE, but they have options such as halfs subs if you dont think you can do the whole one. They are also packed with the freshest ingredients and that's easy to tell. They also have a large menu (every single sandwich looks amazing) which ensures something for everyone, even quick bite options like fried mac and cheese fries.
google avatar

Keri R.

Yelp
I had the buffalo chicken hero with pickles and my boyfriend had the chester which is chicken cutlet, mac & cheese and fire cheetos. At first i thought ew, but lets be real it was delicious af. The heroes were huge. We had half for lunch and the other half dinner. Friendly staff and i definitely think reasonably priced for the size. Worth the 20 minute drive.
google avatar

Dominic M.

Yelp
For a sandwich spot this place hits the spot. I have tried several of their specialty sandwiches and nothing has yet to disappoint. They have some of the best fried chicken cutlets I've had. Crispy and not rubbery. Seriously, why is that a thing at some places? I recommend picking something from their awesome menu that catches your eye. The servings are big and I appreciate that they offer half sandwiches as well.
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
I got a kind of boring sandwich so this can be taken w a grain of salt. I went for the "chick N berry" wrap; swapped the gorgonzola cheese for pepper jack & added avocado... it was mediocre. The chicken was a little tough, I would have liked it more tender but overall the wrap felt like it was missing something. Maybe some bacon? Or some salt? Not too sure.

M M.

Yelp
Italian hero was good, large, was plenty of food. Also purchased beef barley soup, I was not thrilled w/that at all. Especially for the price...I will not buy again.
