Mood-boosting tacos & vibrant decor, try the pork butt taco
"This Mexican serotonin specialist on Leytonstone High Road runs on silver platters brimming with salsas, lime Jarritos, and exceptional tacos that’ll make you say some very mean things about Old El Paso kits. We’d eat Homies On Donkeys’ barbacoa even if the inside of the restaurant resembled a bin bag, but all the loud colour-pop graffiti, hot pink seating, and explosion of lovehearts above the booths really speaks to what this taqueria is all about—fun." - heidi lauth beasley
"Sat in front of a pink and yellow mural, with a creamy horchata in one hand and jalapeño relish slowly dripping down your wrist, it’s impossible to feel unhappy at Homies On Donkeys. The Leytonstone taqueria serves mood-boosting tacos like smoky chicken barbacoa topped with roasted tomato salsa. But our favourite is the broccoli taco: it’s charred and crispy, served on some of the best refried beans we’ve had, and drizzled with salsa macha." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, daisy meager, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley
"If you’ve ever had the weirdly specific fantasy of stepping off Leytonstone High Road and slipping into a warm serotonin bath of excellent tacos, friendly service, and mood-boosting artwork, you’ll love Homies On Donkeys. Mainlining excellent roasted broccoli tacos from this taqueria is our idea of self-care. The hard seats create a market stall atmosphere and are just comfy enough to settle in and work your way through the salsa tasting platter." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak
"At Homies On Donkeys, there’s no fear of tumbleweeds if you book at 5pm. This Mexican spot in Leytonstone starts to fill up mere minutes after opening. Which is great news for anyone who likes excellent chicken thigh barbacoa tacos and a fun atmosphere, but also has a firm 8pm slippers-on rule. The Barbie-pink and Lego-yellow walls and thrumming hip-hop soundtrack are a mood-boosting combination, the roasted broccoli tacos are a superior early dinner choice, and the temptation to linger and order another round of lime Jarritos is strong." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, jake missing, heidi lauth beasley
"Homies on Donkeys is a restaurant that feels like it wants to share the good time vibes via osmosis. The walls are Barbie-pink and Lego-yellow, and the Leytonstone taqueria makes mood-boosting tacos, from smoky chicken barbacoa to roasted broccoli. This place is pretty much perma-busy, but rock up on your own and nab one of the window stools. Soon enough you’ll have a creamy horchata in one hand and jalapeño relish happily dripping down your wrist." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak
