The two of us stopped by after work on a warm Summer Thursday night around 6:15pm. This is our third time to DeHomis and I'd recommend it highly. Even if you're not sure, this place is surrounded by food carts and options. A great place to take your confused crowd. You can't miss the food truck, it's hands down the cutest truck on the lot. Like, who decorated this? I struggle to not go full schoolgirl and squee with glee when I see the graffiti cat eating dumplings. ...And the tiny ceramic mushrooms on top ...squee.
The food carts have changed quite a bit over the past few months! The huge beer tent is gone and more carts have moved in. Spacing is more distanced and masks are required. The South entrance is closed and you only enter from the NW and NE corners of the food pod now. Very nice in keeping with social distancing.
We got two orders, first we both shared the 8 piece Karaage Chicken over rice with Asazuke Salad. It came out fast and piping hot! The chicken is soft, well seasoned, with a thin and crunchy texture. If this chicken was a bread it's be a French baguette with the soft inside and a thin, crispy outter layer. The sticky rice was good, not especially flavorful, but a really welcome mite flavor against the hot, juicy chicken. The Asazuke Salad is the perfect complement to the dish as the light and pungent salad cuts through the grease while remaining fresh. I'd guess the salad contains mostly thin cucumbers, seaweed, matchstick carrots, minimal water chestnuts, mixed in sesame oil, Mirin, sugar, and magic.
We took a Chicken and Rice Bowl home for a food fanatic family member who had never had Karaage Chicken and she loved it. If you're a fried chicken enthusiast and also like the thin, crispy coating that only corn starch can provide - head to DeHomis.
