Buy chips, guacamole, pick, and salsa here as a reminder of the Midwest's strong Mexican heritage.
Honey Bee La Colmena is a Detroit staple on the east side of southwest Detroit. This neighborhood, split by the Ambassador Bridge, and chockfull of industry (and its associated pollution) remains vibrant. Honey Bee adds to that, anchors it even.
It is a full service grocery with a carry out deli. You'll find all the vegetables and fruits you desire, and some you're excited to try. It's a great place to stock up on limes, mangoes, avocados, but they also carry items that tend to be a bit harder to find, satsumas this week, for example.
Along the back of the store is a full meat counter. It contains marinated and pre-cut choices, along with plenty of slabs that butchers will cut to your specifications. The meat here is of good quality.
Honey Bee carries a good amount of dairy products, Mexican-style ones and the usual suspects. Try some fresh farmers cheese for a real treat, or some Mexican-style drinkable yogurt.
They have a deli / prepared foods section with rotating goodness. They usually have ready-to-cook burritos and other treats, too.
The dry grocery is full of Mexican imports and everything else you need to stock up. Take note of good quality, well-priced items like spices and dried chilies. Peruse their cooking section to find a large pot or other utensil that you need, but didn't know where to find. Change up your party with Jarritos soda and Topo Chico.
Honey Bee La Colmena is a large, clean, well-serviced grocery that is an example of what our communities need, and you'll walk out with something delicious!
