Ok I’ve been here six times now and I’m ready to give it five stars. It’s been a slow ramp. Their prices were very high at the start, but they now offer meal combos that are in line with other counter service places in the area. I spent more at Deerfield shake shack for lunch a few weeks ago than dinner tonight. We’ve had a couple of takeout orders go wrong, and I think the grilled chicken when they first opened was pretty average. But they are figuring it out. Tonight we went simple - chicken strips for her, honey butter sandwich for me. The fries are addictive. The rear deck is lovely and quiet. The back room is an undiscovered gem. Thank you HBFC for evolving and trying to get it right, I think it’s about there.

Expensive, yes! But the food is so good and creative that it is well worth it. The restaurant appears to pay people a decent wage as staff are super friendly and not begging for tips at every turn of the corner like most places. The dining room is large and clean and it’s always a treat to come here. Green River on tap is a nice touch!

Amazing! One of my favorite places ever does it again! After living a block from the Elston location and moving up here 3-4 years ago, I am glad to see one of Chicago’s gems come to the North Shore… and the best part of it… The big smile and huge hugs from Joe who was also at the Elston Ave location. Totally surprised to walk in and see Joe up here! The food is amazing, green river soda on tap, always get the Pimento mac and cheese and always put the butter on the chicken! Also love that they brought along Bang Bang Pie!

Google
Excellent food, atmosphere, and service! We got a chicken sandwich and the strips. The chicken is incredibly tender -- some of the most tender fried chicken I've ever had. It is surprisingly light as well, it does not taste super oily or leave you feeling sick like some other fried chicken can. The sauces are excellent and even though it is a counter service restaurant, the staff were very attentive to refilling our water and getting us anything we needed. Super cute space as well. This will be a new regular stop for us for sure. Highly recommend!

Google
WOW this place has the Best chicken sandwich in the Chicagoland area. The Honey Buffalo Chicken sandwich was very flavorful and so tender. The muffin pack side is incredible, make sure you dip them in the honey butter. You won’t regret it. The lemonade is also really good and the Bang Bang Pie is incredible. They also have great beer on tap and great drinks.

Google
The service, food quality, atmosphere, and everything about this place was amazing! I only have a photo of the fries and pie because they were my second order in the same visit and I had no idea that the fire butter chicken sandwich and the pimento Mac and cheese were going to be good enough to make me want to try more on their menu. 5/5 stars!

Google
I really enjoyed the experience and the food was delicious! I had the Buffalo mac n cheese with Kale & Cabbage Slaw, and the fried chicken.

Google
I am SO happy they opened a location on the North Shore!! I used to go to their Chicago location all the time. This place is exactly what I hoped it would be. It’s huge, plenty of seating, good for kids, has a bar, and a huge patio. The chicken tenders are excellent - fresh and crispy, flavorful and greasy but not too greasy. All the sandwiches and sides are great too. It does feel a little pricey, but they bring your food to your table and clean it up, and they never prompt for a tip. So it’s worth it with the service. Not sure what’s up with some of the negative reviews - maybe it’s just opening hiccups. I had no issues when I was there and would not hesitate to go back.

Yelp
Welcome to the neighborhood! After hearing all the hype about their city location I was psyched for this to open in Glencoe, although wasn't sure if there would be much on the menu for me. While I'd love to eat fried chicken, I tried to stick with healthier options. I was thrilled when i saw you can substitute the fried chicken for charboiled chicken. We picked up a bunch of honey butter chicken sandwiches for the whole family: fried chicken for husband & kids and charboiled for myself. Everyone was very happy with their food! We also got a side of mac and cheese (yummy, but VERY cheesy) and mashed potatoes (too much gravy for my liking). While we only picked up the inside of the restaurant is bright and there's lots of spots to sit. Looks like they have a small private room upstairs and will have a patio in the back for warmer days ahead. It's a great option to pick up or eat in with the family and also a great spot for kids to go on their own. I have a feeling like their across the street neighbor, Red Hen, they'll be busy with middle schoolers soon. Great addition to Glencoe!

Yelp
We stopped in for dinner the other night and it was a great experience! All of the staff were friendly and helpful. There were a lot of interesting options on the menu but we decided to order a four piece meal which came with four pieces of fried chicken, four mini corn muffins and honey butter. For sides we ordered the kale cole slaw and pimento mac n cheese. All of it was delicious! The weather was nice so we took advantage of the bright and welcoming outdoor area in the back of the restaurant. While we were full when we left we couldn't pass up dessert so we ordered the cherry dump cake and lemon verbena cheesecake to go. Both were also very good. While not inexpensive we felt the prices were reasonable given the quality of the food. For all of these reasons we will be back!

Yelp
Honey Butter Fried Chicken is the only reason I would brave the downtown Glencoe area. I've been to the HBFC location in the city so many times, and despite it being in the suburbs, this location is just as great. We ordered to go, but I would probably opt to dine in next time. The employees here are so energetic and just..nice. It was good vibes that I haven't gotten from a restaurant in such a long time. The food is consistently great. I always get the classic + whatever special sandwich they have going on. I still have my eye on that ramen that pops up & never seem to get! I would definitely get some honey butter to go. Slather that stuff on everything. It looks like they also have a really great happy hour that I will definitely be looking to go to in the summer.

Yelp
So far so good. I had the monthly special which has a kick of spice but very delicious. I happen to come during happy hour so the young lady hooked these delicious margaritas up! Sat on the back patio which has plenty of tables and shade and made for a nice overall experience

Yelp
This was the first time at this location!! I have been to the Avondale location before and I am very excited that the burbs get to experience this place! Upon arrival we were greeted during a busy lunch time! The food here is always delicious! I decided to go away from my normal order and get the spicy chicken tendies and they did not disappoint!

Yelp
We are so sad to hear this location is closing. It has become a staple for our family. The food is amazing as is the staff and management. Thank you for the short time you were around.

Yelp
We went for dinner and were very sadly disappointed. There were 4 of us... 2 of us had sandwiches which are made with chicken breast strips ...those were good... However ... the other 2 had two piece chicken meals ... HORRIBLE!!! It is apparent / obvious that the chicken was fried ahead of time and when ordered fried again ... The coating was so dark and hard, could barely even bite it and the chicken itself was extremely overcooked and dry ... The fries were good The people were very nice We will NOT be going back

Yelp
I am so glad that this opened in the burbs! Used to be our go to spot in the city. I think they may have made some changes to the menu though. My husband got the original sandwich and we expected the slaw to be creamy from what we remembered from the city location but it was more vinegar based. The tenders seemed a little smaller as well. The honey butter biscuits are a must have, their honey buffalo sauce is my favorite. I did not like their bbq sauce - it was also vinegar based and very tangy. Overall good food, good quality, great location and beautiful and welcoming space! The staff was super attentive and checked in on us often. They pay their staff fair wages and they don't expect tips which is nice.

Yelp
When I come to Honey Butter Fried Chicken it has always been good. When you first walk into this restaurant, the staff always greets you. The fried chicken is the best fried chicken that I have ever had! The crust is nice and crunchy. The chicken is the juiciest chicken that I have ever had! It has a nice kick to it. Overall I would give this restaurant an 9 out of 10. I am so sad that this restaurant is going out of business in two weeks.

Yelp
So happy that Honey Butter Fried Chicken opened up in the suburbs. This location is beautiful and has plenty of seating. The food was terrific and the bang bang pie is an added treat. Service is really good as well

Yelp
Is it me or is HBFC is overhyped? I remember it being good at the chicago location. This one didn't really hit the spot. The sandwhich was almost tasteless, very dry. I do say the glencoe location looks absolutely beautiful inside out. The outside seating in the back could be a good selling points for a lot of high school kids to come and chill. All staffs were friendly and very helpful with the menu items
google avatar

Yvonne Y.

Yelp
very friendly staff and it's quite busy in is early days. Had the massive basket of chicken strips which is over a lb of chicken strips ranging from 14-20 pieces. It's fresh and tender but to set the expectation this isn't the crispy type. Fries with pimento sauce was a hit but the pimento mac n cheese was not. I'd try the fried chicken next time. They do have water pitcher and reusable cups for filling water up which is good. It's about $100 to feed 4 people.

Carl E.

Yelp
The Glencoe location is filled with little kids after school eating overpriced chicken w their parents money. Lost the charm of the Chicago location and not surprised they are closing the Glencoe location.

Yelp
We recently had the pleasure of dining at HBFC. and it was nothing short of spectacular! The food was excellent - we ordered a sandwich, tenders, fried chicken, fries and 2 sides, not a single complaint, even from the kiddos which is a rarity! The restaurant has plenty of seating including a child friendly addition in the back, making it a great spot for families. The staff's exceptional service stood out more than the food; they went above and beyond, checking in on us to ensure everything was perfect. Long line already on a Friday night (understandably so given food and service) so make sure to allot extra time if you're dining in. HBFC is set to become a beloved addition to the neighborhood, and we can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Are we looking for fried chicken or a Sysco semi? It's good but if you're looking for "fried chicken" place. This ain't it. I'm expecting to see hand flour and paper bags cracking in the background. This is just strips that lack seasoning and I suspect most product can be found off of a Sysco Semi.

James C.

Yelp
Tonight's dinner was between this place and Korean BBQ. Decided on this place because I didn't feel like spending $200. Instead It cost me $100 to feed my family of five (three small children and two adults). Mistakes have been made. Price is high, portions are small, and food is just ok. Not the best combo.
google avatar

Nina B.

Yelp
The best chicken tenders that I didn't have to cook myself! Tried a flight of sauces and was disappointed by the garlic and "everything" ones but the rest were good. The fries are nice and crispy and the ketchup has no high fructose corn syrup-big bonus! It is a bit pricey for fast food, but the ambience and service make it worth the money. Love the back patio.
google avatar

M X.

Yelp
Overpriced and doesn't taste any better than kfc. Everything is self service, so I don't get the price at all.

Becky H.

Yelp
The space is nice and Glencoe is a great location. The service was friendly and pleasant. I could see how the employee team was eager to please. The food was just ok. The chicken was fresh. The coating was not seasoned in any interesting way. I took my order to go as the cicadas on the back patio grossed me out. When I got home I realized they'd forgotten to include the French fries I'd ordered so I just had chicken. Didn't receive a small biscuit either, not sure if I was supposed to. I sincerely hope this place succeeds but it is very expensive and the food was just ordinary. I could make chicken tenders like this at home.

Yelp
Great food! My wife really enjoyed the waffles and service. The chicken was very good as well. Mashed potatoes was just okay.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
My wife & I wanted to try this new place. The menu was small. Our chicken sandwich was small & very expensive. If you've ever been to Hattie B's in Nashville, well it's more affordable and three times the size sandwich. We did love the French Fries and they were good. No value & just ok. Glencoe is charming & it was nice to try but not as good as Clucker's in Highwood.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Great chicken options and I also liked the tofu. We went twice opening week and the staff was all very attentive and friendly. So happy to have this place in the neighborhood

Yelp
Service is great. All the staff are very nice. Rare these days! 4 star staff! Long line but it moved. Chicken came out fresh and hot! They gave out miniature glasses of free lemonade, while we waited. A very classy touch. So whats not great? The price. 37$ for an 8 piece box. Thats 4.60$ per piece. What do you think about a price of 4.60$ for a chicken leg (drumstick)? To me? Prices are quite high but the chicken IS quite tasty. I mean really tasty. So its a dilemma. The prices won't hamper my return. And some of the OTHER pieces in the eight piece box were quite meaty - such as the boneless breast. For $37 if they were only those beautiful boneless breasts then it would be more reasonable. Also, I don't think they should charge for hot sauce. I believe it was 1.67$ for a small amount. They should just have community bottles around the resturant that you can use while dining. This actually is so offensive I imagine they will change their policy immediately upon reading this post. Right? Im serious. I just think it will be common sense for them. I think it was a mistake that they will quickly realize. I met two of the owners. Nice folks. They will fix this. They will "get" it! Their inner-voice will realize "People are spending $37 on an 8 piece box of chicken and then they we want another dollar 67cents for a small hot sauce? It just FEELS wrong." Its just not worth it to your business. And I am ALWAYS right on this kind of thing! ALWAYS! They will do far less business if they don't offer bottles of hot sauce around the restaurant. That good will (I predict) will actually MAKE them more money. Wrong or right its just something customers have come to expect - free Ketchup with french fries and free hot sauce for chicken. I mean good night, Irene! This is a no-brainer. Bottom line: The Chicken IS great.

K M.

Yelp
The grilled chicken strips were good and the garlic aioli and honey butter. That was about it. The breaded chicken tenders were OK but I have had much better. The four piece fried chicken was overcooked and dry. The Mac n cheese nobody liked as well as mashed potatoes. When I picked it up the people at the counter were just talking to each other. They asked my name, handed me my order and went back to talking with each other. When I asked if there was any silverware they just pointed to it. Not a fan and for $78 to feed four people I will not be back again. Agree with another review that Cluckers is better and def makes me miss Hattie B's in Nashville which has way better chicken for much lower cost. What a disappointment.

Saj C.

Yelp
Really love honey butter fried chicken. Something so satisfying about eating a whole chicken and not having to worry about bones (beside the leg, and no wings apparently) that's not in strip form. Great seasoning and love that honey butter. Went to the one in Avondale a few times but have not had the chance to eat in at this location. So thrilled that the north suburbs have a location in Glencoe. This place is pricey. Their mashed potatoes are great but there is so little gravy, and that really shows when ordering a large size. They sell sauces on the side but they can be pricey too. Put less salt on those fries please. The corn bread are great. They look like they have a great breakfast menu, would love to try it some time.

Yelp
Dined here for the first time ever! I would definitely recommend and return to this location! I had been dying to try HBFC ever since they first opened up in the city about a decade or so ago, but didn't feel like making the schlep to the city and having to deal with parking and getting carjacked and killed! So, having the Glencoe location open up is a God-send! I ordered 4 pieces of dark meat chicken (which came with 4 cute, tiny corn muffins and a container of honey butter). I also had the pimento dipping sauce, plus 2 sides (Kale & Cabbage Slaw and Roasted Garlic Grits), and sweet tea! My whole order came out to $46 (includes tax). Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, hearty and overall, amazingly DELICIOUS!!! I also loved the restaurant's open, airy and casual/relaxed ambiance! They also played cool music overhead. The employee who took my order (Nolan) was very cool --professional, knowledgeable, helpful, patient and friendly! In addition , the restaurant is very clean (including the washrooms)! The other cool thing about this place is that they serve alcohol and have happy hour specials! The North Shore is very lucky to have this new awesome restaurant!!!!!

Laura B.

Yelp
Great addition to the suburbs. I've taken to go and eaten there. Great staff. Don't miss the deserts!

Ken K.

Yelp
Did a carryout ordered the chicken with biscuits. Both were extremely dry. Very over priced, would not purchase again. They do not accept cash.

A A.

Yelp
Our first time to the Glencoe location. We are familiar with the original location. First - super kid friendly. My kids loved the chicken strips meals. They had a magnet board that my kids loved while we waited for our food. I ordered the two piece chicken meal. The chicken was great! My husband reflected that it seemed dark but it was perfect in flavor and texture. We also tried the pimento cheese fries and had a pack of the corn muffins. Because my daughter is a big waffle fan we also got the waffle (no chicken). The combination of honey butter and maple syrup was great. They only have this option for brunch but it is a must try especially if you love waffles. In summary, this was perfect for kids and the food was great!

George A.

Yelp
Soggy disappointing sandwiches. Nothing was crispy at all chicken was soggy coleslaw was not crunchy at all flavors overall too mild and very disappointing. Not worth the money at all.

Nate V.

Yelp
I love the original location so much. Why only 3 stars you might wonder? The biggest reason? Grits! Why would they get rid of such a special dish? It was absolutely the wrong move. That was the best thing on the menu! You don't pull your star player from the big game yet that is exactly what they did. It's a crime. Do the right thing and bring it back. Get rid of something else because this wasn't it.

abe f.

Yelp
Very UNDERWHELMED. 1st chicken tender basket returned because they were cold. Not much of a value here. Chicken sandwich with honey butter was just ok. Nothing special. Chicken tenders as I said were cold. 2 nd batch were hot but greasy Corn muffins were good but 5 small muffins for $8.00... not worth it. Good luck guys. Need to do better

Yelp
great staff amazing food the service awesome and just a great vibe overall would definitely recommend

Laura F.

Yelp
Great food and a nice atmosphere. Chicken strips with ghost honey were my favorite. Definitely will be back!

Will H.

Yelp
Delicious food. I had the ramen noodle fried chicken in pimento sauce, which was only offered for a limited time but was really good, I told anyone who was listening they should add it to the permanent menu. But everything we ordered was great, except for the side of mac and cheese, which was a bit dry and not too tasty. Service was great, starting with them asking us if we'd been there before - we hadn't but our daughter had. The restaurant has a nice casual vibe. The price is a little high for a quasi-fast food place, but they do not accommodate tips and are dedicated to the community, so all is well. We will make part of our restaurant rotation!

Jeanne M.

Yelp
Just had a delicious meal here. Had a basket of strips, lots of strips. A chicken sandwich, original very tasty, A 2 piece meal, chicken was hot and juicy. Added palmetto fries and 3 cocktails went during happy hours! Bill was $62. Not bad considering we enjoyed everything, and had cocktails. Was happy with everything:) What I really loved was how nice everyone was. When I decided to add malted milk French silk pies from Bang bang pie. I was waiting for the tip prompt. No tip prompt! I asked do we tip at table, and very pleasantly was told there was no need to tip! It's so rare to go somewhere that doesn't ask for a tip as you're paying!!!!

Carol Y.

Yelp
I give 3 stars to Honey Butter Fried Chicken. I called before I placed my order to see what the 2 piece was comprised of and was told the box had 1 drum stick and 1 piece of white meat. I asked if I could have 2 pieces of dark meat and was told to put my request in the comment section. I wrote in a leg and a thigh. I went t to pay for my order and added a 15% tip. I was happy I only tipped 15%. I walked up to the pickup counter and encountered two employees chatting away and unaware. I walked around and waited in the cashier's line, explained I was there for a pickup and she walked to the counter and graciously handed me my bag. The two guys working that counter, still chatting away. I got home, opened the bag and realized that i had white meat and a drumstick in both boxes. Oooops. I will say that where the service was not up to par, the chicken, even the white meat was delicious. The cornbread was pretty good too. My 93 year old mother likes thighs and legs and she should be able to get what she wants. The fact that the chicken was moist inside and crisp on the outside really saved the lunch!

Ann P.

Yelp
So excited this Avondale favorite has expanded north! Met a few friends + their baby for a Saturday morning bite and had a great time. This location doesn't have brunch just yet but the chicken, corn muffins, and pimento Mac and cheese are exactly as I remember from their OG spot. Service was so friendly and we'll definitely be back!

Adam T.

Yelp
Had a less-than-ideal experience at this place. My "loaded" pimento Mac and cheese for $15 was a letdown - just one or two sad cut up into a bunch of pieces "chicken nuggets" barely worth a bite. The greasy, oily, and grainy cheese sauce didn't help either. The $6.50 frozen seasonal lemonade was just average, not worth ordering again. To top it off, my 2 pc meal was supposed to have a breast and drumstick according to the cashier because I prefer white meat, but I got a thigh and a drumstick. The cold, dry thigh and the inedible, rubbery drumstick with uncooked tendons and fat made it a regrettable $38 meal for one. Sadly, won't be returning; their Chicago location is a far better choice. The only redeeming quality was the ambiance, along with the stunning interior and exterior decor - a very pretty restaurant. However, it's all looks and no substance.

Jack D.

Yelp
foods really good the tenders are fr the best thing i've ever had. brought a few of my friends in here after i got it one time and they've been coming back a ton. really good food and the inside of the restaurant is super nice.
