"Open for over 20 years, Honey Jar Cafe is a longstanding Thai favorite in the Argay Terrace neighborhood. Start the meal with an order of spring rolls before digging into pineapple fried rice, pad Thai, papaya salad, and more. There is also a full menu of curry options including red, green, yellow, and panang." - Rebecca Roland, Krista Garcia

Google
The pad Thai I ordered was so flavorless. The fresh rolls and peanut 🥜 sauce were very good tho! I lost my appetite quick tho when one of the employees was just outside the fence line coughing loogies and spitting and blowing his nose non stop and then came inside and continued doing so. It was just so gross I took the rest of my food Togo. Also not to mention they could give the outdoor tables a little wipe down they were very dirty

Google
Very yummy food! My favorite was the khao poon soup!

Tanessa Spackman

Google
I've been going here for years and they are constantly the best. They are fast, food is A+, portions are huge (defiantly shareable), and customer service is what other establishments should strive for. Breathe of fresh air. Come here you won't regret it!!

Google
relax atmosphere, very friendly staff, love that there is outdoor seating 😍 food is good, hope Thai spicy fried rice is more spicy 🔥 that would be perfect. PadThai a bit on sweet side so great for set tooth

Google
Wow ! This is probably the best Ramen bowl I've had in 20 years !!! Big portion nice taste very fresh and perfect ... the staff is very friendly too !

Google
Favorite place to get food while Im at work! Every time I call in an order, it takes less than 30 seconds to place, the staff are very friendly, and to top it all off they make some delicious food! Keep up the good work guys!

Carolina Omier

Google
Good service and friendly waitress. Delicious red curry suop I order 2 , 1 salmon and fry rice. The good price. Portions are enough to get satisfy, even the soup which is small portions considering the big bowl that they use to use for noodle soup. I'm really recommend if you like thai👍

Google
Epic place to enjoy some good ol Thai food that warms the belly. I've enjoyed Honey Jar Cafe food for more than 25 years. Honey Jar Cafe, you're a rock star in my book.

Yelp
I love coming here for their chicken curry noodles called Khaopoun I think that's how you spell it idk. Their papaya salad is good, & their boat noodles with pork is good too! If you come here don't just get pad thai noodles smh! That's like asking for chicken teriyaki at a Chinese restaurant! So basic lol people will stare at you! Try other things! Expand your taste palette.

Yelp
The food was good and reasonably priced. The Staff from Thailand were very helpful and friendly. The tables and decorations were plain. We would go back.

Philip Y.

Yelp
I ordered Seafood Tofu soup and Fried Tofu to try something different than my regular Drunken Noodle. The soup did not have much seafood but full of corn starch. Had to order another appetizer Bbq pork to fill my stomach. Not a good choice for Thai food.

Yelp
Honey Jar is IYKYK for eastsiders. It's an unassumingly place located in a strip mall with plenty of tables inside so it's never crazy packed. I always go with either the Crying Tiger, Boat Noodle Soup or Khal Peak Noodle. Pair that with Lao style papaya salad and sticky rice and you got a combo right there. Service has always been really good everytime I've been there.

Sara S.

Yelp
I love their basil fried rice here! So good and flavorful. Another favorite is the pineapple fried rice and the pumpkin curry. The fried to u with the side of sauce or fresh salad rolls are also great if wanting an appetizer! Service is typically pretty fast here about 15 minutes for a to go order for 2-3 people

Hector G.

Yelp
Best Thai food in the area. No place has better Thai style spicy papaya salad. Food and service is always great.

Ben C.

Yelp
Really old neighborhood strip plaza, really old interior, matches the area. Cold inside ~ employees in sweatshirts; had to keep the jackets on. Dishes ~ overly sweet & salty, like granulated sugar & table salt flavor. Unusually watery too. Vegetable stir fry was mostly bean sprouts and broccoli. C'mon. Service was minimal like fast food take out. Prices Pearl District high. But it is not the Pearl.

Barbara A.

Yelp
Honey Jar is an especially nice neighborhood restaurant with a lovely ambiance and good Thai food.

John Y.

Yelp
Great place that serves great food! Crying Tiger is a MUST here!! Every time we dine in this place has been a good experience. Big fan!!

Nicole G.

Yelp
The food was bland with hints of a burnt taste. The shrimp was overcooked. The vegetables were bitter. The noodles were on point texture wise but lacked flavor. If I had only ordered a thai iced tea it would have been a five star review. I ordered to ho but would not have wanted to eat in. It felt chaotic with a delivery being made while I was picking up my food. Staff was friendly. Another draw back; to go food was served in a styrofoam container. Disappointing!

Jason G.

Yelp
So delicious and always happy to eat there, many flavors and spices. Sometimes will have new specials & it's enjoyable place to be.

Christy O.

Yelp
Good Thai food with great service. We started with dumplings then shared fried rice. The space is huge with pool tables and video gaming on the way to the bathrooms.

Mehdi A.

Yelp
Ordered Pad Thai with chicken, Thai Red Curry with chicken, Chicken Satay, and Potstickers through Uber Eats. All foods tasted good and had plenty of flavors. The Pad Thai was tasty and fresh. I only wished it was made with all-white chicken. Regardless, it was definitely good. Thai Red Curry was good, but a bit on the greasy/oily side. Good flavor and large portions of curry and rice. Chicken Satay and Potstickers were full of flavors and yummy.

Yelp
Well well well thai food, we meet again... can we agree that this will end bad for both of us come the morning. Why do I have to get such spicy food to where people ask me if I am having a stroke.. why does my green curry (amazing by the way, the curry was so flipping good) come out looking like red curry, speckled with pain flakes.. why must I say "give me a thai ten" well here they gave me the max, and it was hot. I think I met my match. The pad kee mao, my staple was a quick snag, and those oily noodles hold that spice like no other, so usually I go with a solid high middle eating so others can enjoy the food. Pad thai, the 'bean n cheese burrito' of thai food, we all know it, and I double down on noodles. Check this, the lad thai was some of the best I've had in a while. Dont let the location, the outside, or the neighborhood discourage you.. this place is the cats meow

Glenna C.

Yelp
A friend recommended this place and I'm so glad they did. Very friendly staff and such tasty food. It's my go to place for local Thai food.

Anne L.

Yelp
Ordered the chicken pad Thai and beef salad. Both Meats were chewy and dishes lacked flavor. The beef salad came with way more meat than salad. The Proportion was way off. We may come back to try the papaya salad but not sure if we will. Best to get your bang for your buck at the food carts.

Ace E.

Yelp
A good little Thai place in a strip mall across from a plaid pantry. Been here many years. At least 10 since I moved into the neighborhood. Was coming here when it still had fresh doughnuts and Thai food. My go to place for Thai that is so close to home. Make sure to order the salad rolls with tofu if you are allergic to Shrimp. A good business for take out. Nice people here!

Patricia E.

Yelp
Favorite Thai food in Portland. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Always smiling. Potstickers and Curry are my favorite!!

Heather H.

Yelp
Honey Jar. I use to get bagel dogs at the Honey Jar during lunch in high school. Granted that was back in the late 80s. Now I get Thai for lunch, thankfully I am no longer in high school. The Honey Jar provides quick prompt service! I enjoy their Tom Kha Gai soup, worked myself up to medium, and their shrimp salad rolls. That's my go to meal! Solid. Their Pad Thai is good, and always the first thing I try when going to a new Thai restaurant. Our lunch group orders a variety of dishes and everything has been good. I am not going to go 5 star because nothing has blown off my socks. It's all solid. Like I said it's convenient, quick and tasty. Btw, it's a great place to host a party! Large back area where the video poker is... we have hosted a couple events here. Great buffet and drinks!!!!

christina m.

Yelp
Great Thai food! The owner and staff are super sweet. Yellow curry is the best! Can't go wrong.

Lina M.

Yelp
Grub hub order. Great dumplings and fast delivery service! Friend rice was pretty good!

Hugh J.

Yelp
Little hole in the wall Thai place. Pad Thai k had today was awesome and their pricing is very reasonable for the portion size too. Fast friendly service as well. Recommend!

Alex V.

Yelp
The food is pretty dang good! Love the basil chicken, and the crying tiger is a favorite for everyone

A B.

Yelp
I love coming here, the food and service has always been fantastic. I was here this past weekend with my friend for lunch and I noticed there are no prices on the menu. What's up with that? That has become a big turn off. I want to know how much I'm paying for something prior to buying it. Please put the prices on your menu.

Tony K.

Yelp
The boat noodle sucks! It don't taste right! Won't order that dish again there. I ordered because of the picture on their website.

Roze N.

Yelp
Although I miss the donuts...Honey Jar still churns out flavorful dishes. There's just something about maple bars and Pad Thai that made this joint stand out. Lol. Food ordered were yellow curry, beef salad and pad kee mao. The portions were good sizes except the curry bowl seemed kinda dinky in comparison but was enough for 2 peeps. Maybe it was the bowl it was served in. Aw well. Still yummy in my tummy w some leftovers. They now have indoor/outdoor seating, video poker and I think I saw a pool table. Congrats on the expansion!

Jesse C.

Yelp
Love Honey Jar! This is one of our go-to spots when we are craving Thai food. Portions are huge, and prices are very reasonable. The dishes here are flavorful and very consistent, which is the main reason we continue to come back. A lot of other places we have tried, it has been hit or miss (good one day and horrible on a different day). Definitely recommend this place.

Kevin C.

Yelp
Cute little Thai restaurant located in a strip mall. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They have outdoor seating, indoor seating a bar area with a pool table and video lottery. It's located on the route 21 bus line. I went there today to order a Crying Tiger (SEUA RONG HAÏ) it was very delicious so I ordered another to take back to the hotel and eat later. The flavors were complementing one another. The sweet and sour along with the spicy and citrus were on point. We will definitely be returning.

Yelp
I have been frequenting Honey Jar for the last decade, and even though I moved farther out to the outskirts of Gresham, I still stop by to get food from my favorite Thai spot. The biggest things that set apart this shop are their freshly made foods across the board, ranging from Pad Thai, noodles, or even seafood. The serving sizes are huge and can be used as a family style meal if you want to share! The prices for everything is very fair as well and sums up the whole experience. The flavor of the food is amazing and somehow fulfills my western palate as well as my wife's more traditional style as well. Other great things about the restaurant would be the selection of Thai beers, and the ability to rent out their side room for occasions.

Michelle P.

Yelp
Oh my goodness I'm so happy for Honey Jar! Every time I order here it all the food is D E L I C I O U S ! Tastiest asian cuisine I've ever laid my taste buds on. My personal favorite is the Seafood Pad Spicy Noodles, just the combination of delicious basil, hint of spicy, mixed veggie and seafood is perfection

Jonathan F.

Yelp
Great food and great service. I have been going here for the longest time and it's one of my favorites.

Cameo K.

Yelp
I ordered this through UberEats and was incredibly disappointed. They have a 4.7 star rating on Uber and we ordered the Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, and an order of Egg Rolls. The food tasted okay, definitely not a contender up against places like Thai Terrace or Wild Tiger, but not so bad I couldn't eat it. One of our drinks didn't show (driver said they only gave him one but he could easily be lying and just kept it for himself.) The flavor of the curry was lacking and the curry itself separated easily and was runny. The potatoes could have cooked a little longer but it was still edible. The curry was about a half size compared to what you normally get at a Thai restaurant. The pad thai was pretty dry and looked/tasted like it sat out for longer than the drive home. I added some pad thai sauce myself after it arrived. The flavor before I added anything wasn't really anything special, and tasted like it was either burned a little bit, cooked in a dirty pan, or was missing something entirely. The egg rolls were okay. Not bad, not spectacular. I woke up this morning with nausea and a stomach ache, same with my partner. Probably won't be ordering from here again. :/ on the plus side, they are open late so if you're willing to compromise on flavor and risk the stomach ache for convenience's sake they have that going for them.

Yelp
Came back recently and changed the rating from a 3 to a 4. We dined in this time because it wasn't as busy. We had a friend who already was seated. We ordered our food and was served promptly although they forgot our utensils until we asked for it. The portions are pretty good sizes, and the food was really enjoyable as well. My last review had concerns of customer service but I think it might have been due to the time of day and if they had people ordering drinks at their bar/counter.

M C.

Yelp
Great food! Crying tiger. Papaya salad! Delicious! Drinks and poker machines too! There's also a pool table.

Tarasa F.

Yelp
This was a great find by PDX (Portland airport) while traveling to the greater Portland/Vancouver area for work. The Honey Jar Cafe has been around since the 90's serving authentic Thai food with a twist of Laos style sprinkled in and after sitting down for a working lunch, I soon realized why they've been in business for so long. They serve great food, with friendly service in a clean environment. My lunch consisted of the shrimp salad roll, crispy tofu & the Thai vegetable with broccoli, cabbage, onions, mushrooms, bean sprouts, carrots & peas. All delicious and more than I could eat in a single sitting. So left over Honey Jar Cafe lunch turned into a welcomed dinner, as well.

Stephanie V.

Yelp
I have been coming here for lunch for a couple of years now and I have yet to be disappointed. The service is consistent, friendly and quick. I usually get cashew nut chicken or wings and sticky rice. I love the Cashew nut chicken because it's really spicy (I ask for spicy) and they add a ton of cashews. Also the portion size is great for the price! The wings are also a good value and they are not greasy at all with a hint of salt and pepper. During the most recent visit I tried Khao poon which tasted like a curry based soup. It was tangy and had just a bit spice. Loaded with chunks of chicken (I think thigh), various veggies and noodles. Super tasty, would definitely order again.

Anna N.

Yelp
Everything we had was flavorful and delicious! Portions were large and came with a great price. We tried the Khao Poon, Spicy Fried Rice, Pad Thai, Papaya Salad and Crying Tiger Beef.

Sarah M.

Yelp
I always get great service here and the food is amazing! I always get the khao poon. Me and my boyfriend always go on dates here!

In B.

Yelp
I say hands down one of the best. You must try their grilled chicken. Its the most tender / flavorful / sexiest chicken you will ever taste. I highly recommend you order extra so you can take leftovers home.. oh mah gerd.. its tastier the next day. Just order their meat platter so you can try a little bit of everythanggg! Make sure to dip it in their special sauce. My mouth is watery just thinking about this.... Their papaya salad is definitely on point, most of their noodle dishes Ive tried has been derrriicious!! Im pretty picky / snobby when it comes to thai food but I love love love honey jar. i wish i lived closer so i can go more often!! Its a small hole in the wall but it a gem. Give it a tryyy!!

Erin H.

Yelp
Our family enjoys going to Honey Jar from time to time. We love their shrimp salad rolls and Cashew Nut Pork. I also like their Pork Pad See Ew Noodles, but the only downside is they sometimes forget to take off the bean sprouts from my order. Overall, they serve up fast, inexpensive, and decent Thai food. It is worth checking them out!

Willa H.

Yelp
The food is delicious and fresh, fresh fresh. Start with their Crab Cream cheese Wontons and try the Ginger Chicken and Thai fried rice. All the traditional Thai dishes are amazing. The owners and staff are welcoming and know their community and customers. It has a nice family friendly atmosphere. You can find your favorite Thai dishes at the Honey Jar

Bryan I.

Yelp
Icecream Frozen yogurt Soup Salad Sandwhich Donuts Coffee Burgers Bubble tea Thai food (noodles, curry, fried rice) Count-em TEN different items...a jack of all trades, a master of none. Don't expect the best thai food or bubble tea (which sometimes takes 25' for them to cook the tapioca :-/ ) but it's decent enough. They're friendly, and often times they throw in a free donut with a lunch entrée (likely because they'll be thrown out the next day if they don't) Give it a shot if you can't find a better source of the above 10 items in your locale!

Maurialee B.

Yelp
Came down sandy looking for some gooD food. Been here..many times. looked on the door from sandy and it said open. Pulled through the crazy traffic and parked. Got out of the car with my senior mom there and door locked. You should correct your sign .. please

Jasmine F.

Yelp
Honestly love this place because portions are big that it's worth your money and everything is so fresh. Crying tiger is definitely one of the best dishes. They've also recently put Boat Noodles on their menu, but I don't think it's printed physically on it. Either way, I really enjoyed it. Customer service is great and the staff is super friendly. I've been going to this place for so long now. I always like to introduce this place to my friends and they all end up loving it!

Bill A.

Yelp
Kind of a hole in the wall location with a paradise of good food inside. Staff was super nice, food was delicious and very healthy portions. Will definitely revisit when back in town.

Brenda C.

Yelp
After ordering countless of times from lily market for papaya salad and being disappointed everytime , I was expecting the same thing from here . LETS JUST SAY, MY TASTE BUDS THOUGHT DIFFERENT !!! I always ask people at the restaurants/markets if I can have Laos style papaya salad . I love it stanky and crunchy and spicy and sour !!! Lily market they always told me THIS IS LAOS TAKE IT! (When the label says all the ingredients clearly) it was super sweet and not even sour ! I wasted so much money there, FROM NOW ON I AM GOING TO HONEY JAR CAFE BC IT REMINDS ME OF WHAT MY FAMILY MAKES AT HOME

Mai D.

Yelp
Good food at good prices. What more can you ask for? HIGHLY recommend the crying tiger. It's my absolute favorite and the dipping sauce that it comes with is the best Thai dipping sauce ever. It's so spicy but it hurts so good. I also recommend the meat lovers combo where it comes with 3 different types of meat. Sooooo much food for only $19.95. I was with one other person and we couldn't even finish half of it.

Jenna R.

Yelp
Wish I could give less of a review. Horrible tasting , no flavor, old vegetables and egg. Def don't recommend this place. Decent Thai iced tea tho

Brandon M.

Yelp
Hole in the wall. Flavors. Price. That's the best formula to go dine in. Love it and will be back!!
