The Best Bars in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"This Irish pub in NDG features live music, cold beer, and a sense of community that’s difficult to find in many modern-day drinking establishments. For a knock-off drink with friends after a long day, Honey Martin is as close to Cheers as you’ll get." - JP Karwacki

Where to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 2018 in Montreal

"This NDG favourite is one of few Irish pubs outside the city’s de facto Celtic Drinking District around Crescent Street. Pros: the crowd is likely a little less party-oriented. Cons: it’s seriously small." - Tim Forster

Google
Great atmosphere and service. It's a small, cozy, cash only bar (atm in the back). They some times have live music and trivia night.

Google
One of the best pub in Montreal. It was my first night there and definitely not my last night.

Google
Unbelievably, horrible and rude service!! The barmaid was shockingly unprofessional and arrogant! It’s as if she was actively trying to be offensive! Don’t waste your money!!!

Google
Always a pleasure to see familiar friendly faces, good music (cant go wrong with Shane murphy band), fun events (check out trivia night tuesdays), and an all around great authentic vibe from patrons and guests... and the whole staff team is always a pleasure to see and share a few laughs with. A little gem of a spot.

Google

Yelp
I would leave an even worst review if i could but that's the lowest that google allows me to rate that place. First of all, it stinks really bad, staff are rude, never even seen the staff wash their hands or anything, i was also groped during an event for Halloween, the first time i thought it was an accident but the second time around i realized it was on purpose, i just froze and i am disgusted by this. My girlfriend that was with me has been to that bar before and she believes that the guy who did this is a regular who's friend with one of the barmaids, needless to say that i will NEVER EVER EVER go back there!

Yelp
WARNING: COVID-19 Denial / Anti-Vaxx / Anti-Mask ALERT Okay, so today is Thursday 30th December 2021, and we are at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic ... like it's never been worse than it is now. We've got almost 14,000 official new cases in Quebec today alone and the positivity rate is hovering above 30% ... the Island of Montreal is pretty much one entire hot zone. I am the primary caregiver for my 95 year old grandmother so I am exercising a high degree of caution and I am strictly adhering to the recommended public health measures and safety protocols that are in place. I am also friends with a few frontline healthcare workers so I know how extremely difficult the last 21 months have been for my doctor and nurse friends. I usually love Honeys but today I walked past the pub and they've got a chalkboard in the window (photo below) with some sanctimonious COVID denial propaganda. This is disappointing. The healthcare system is crumbling and rates of infections are skyrocketing and these folks cannot think beyond the tip of their noses. This is a paramount example of the selfish, deluded and idiotic behaviour and notions that have crippled our society. This is why the end of this pandemic has eluded us. We are all in this together -- Ça va bien aller Get vaccinated, get your booster shot, wear your N95 mask, maintain a physical distance of 2 metres, reduce your contacts to one household bubble and hopefully this will all be over sooner than later.

Yelp
I had it out for Honey's for many years. Many many moons ago, when all the weekend servers looked like pinup models and the rockabilly nights were legendary, I had gone with my then-girlfriend and was served a flat pint. I politely approached the bartender and told her I though her tank was done cause' I got no bubbles- she told me where to go and used some choice words. I stormed out and just about cursed the place. Years later I'm happy I've come around to Honey's once again. The vibe has relaxed, the servers are consistently sweethearts and the patrons are a mixed bag of NDG true-blues and proper pub dwellers. Heck, I'd argue that it's the best drinking spot in the neighbourhood. The look and feel of the pub remains the same: it's old-world charm through and through. If you want a proper pint of Murphy's under a stained glass bar, this your spot. Ages of patrons range all over which makes it the kind of place I feel good even bringing my mom to. Ultimately I definitely don't feel compromised here like I used to which is super refreshing- I'm happy me and this pub have grown up.

Yelp
I like this bar, warm and cozy. The clientele is a mix of different ages and everybody is from the same neighbourhood(specially in week days). They have a good collection of whiskey and gin. On the other hand it's a bit pricey/mid range. And it's really tiny, technically a hallway. And If a band is playing don't even think about talking with friends, they won't hear you.

Yelp
There are many Irish bars & pubs in Montreal, but as a non-bar person, I loved the atmosphere here. Amazing paintings with character and charm. Sure the venue is small, but it makes it feel cozy and encourages strangers to just bump into each other and socialize. The service is awesome. I think what won me over 1000% was meeting and admiring the owner, Dillon Griffin, a young but old-souled, stylish, charismatic, sociable man. He made it a point to greet everyone at the bar when he arrived, also aided the service behind the bar, gave my table of newcomers complimentary shots that he shared with us... I was wowed. I'd definitely return for the human aspect, personable service, plus it's family-owned... how cute?!

Yelp
Nice irish bar away from the hustle & bustle of downtown. Very cozy & friendly with music accompaniment. Great paintings on the wall depicting various times in Irish history.

Yelp
Yes, it's overpriced. Yes, it's ridiculously small. Yes, it's very very hot inside. Good points - it's not full of kids. That should be enough for you! LOL Lovely little pub for a beer. Staff is always very nice, patrons are happy to strike up conversation with a newcomer.

Yelp
I'd been invited here a number of times but I was left unimpressed when I finally showed up. It was a dead Thursday night so there were only about 8-12 people there the whole time. It was a BEAUTIFULLY decorated space but I wouldn't want to be crammed in here on a busy night. Anyways, pricing was bleh and the service was unacceptable. If there are only ten people here, maybe you shouldn't chill at your bar chatting with your friend before taking over 10 minutes to pour me a beer. Food: n/a Service: 5/10 Price: 7/10 Atmosphere: 10/10

Yelp
In some ways, this is a perfect bar. It's a neighborhood pub in a residential area, it's small with old wood floors, small booths with stained glass, taxidermied owl, a wall of whiskys, boubons and scotchs, Guinness on tap, friendly no stress staff, regulars being friendly to each other and to strangers at the bar.

Yelp
Great little bar in NDG. Rolled in to here the other night, and all I can say is this place must be good if they let me in and server me some MOAR BEER. It's a small hole in the wall kind of place, but the vibe is good, and I've always met cool people there. They also have live music some nights. Check it out if you're in the 'hood.

Yelp
Got charged 10$ for 1 glass of wine last night. When inquired as to why, the dude just said they increased all their prices by 1$. I remember it being at 6$ last May when i was there last. As a somewhat frequent customer, i feel violated. Not sure if it was some rogue bartender or if they really increased their prices for one glass of wine to 10 bucks!! Even 5* restaurants dont charge that much for house wine. Ridiculous.

Yelp
This place is uber cool. Equal parts uber weird and really spontaneous. I'm not sure what makes this place tick, but it does. You never know what to expect. I've been there on Friday nights that were the most boring quiet drunk infested nights ever. And I've been there on Tuesdays where for no apparent reason this place would transform into the centre of the universe. Such a weird, awesome demographic too of old drunks, NDG old timers, young hipsters, throwbacks, yuppies, and college kids. Just such a weird mix that always keeps this place exciting. You can never classify this place, and that's what I think makes it unique. The first like 4 times I went there I wondered "What the fuck is everyone so impressed with this place?" But if you land there on a night where everything clicks, you will see why. They get great bands in here too if you find the right night. An NDG gem.

Yelp
Pretty sure this bar is owned by a criminal organization. Still, great place though.Service is great, great scotch selection, excellent olde fashioned sand other classic drinks! Cozy atmosphere if you go on off nights. Great place!

Yelp
I love this place! Such an authentic and cozy Irish Pub. Well priced beers and great selection. Friendly service and awesome atmosphere. Place is a bit small and gets cramped, and parking isn't the greatest, but worth going there. They have Kilkenny & Guinness on tap, as well as incredible decor. I discovered this place by accident and I'm glad I did!!!

Yelp
Nice pub. Good bartenders. Good beers. Twice when I came they had live music. If prices were a bit lower would have given 5 stars.

Yelp
As the only decent bar in NDG, this place is overpriced and arrogant. Crappy service, crappy selection, crappy attitude... Thanks Honey for being kind of a dick

Yelp
Nice people working there, just way over priced Sorry guys your not down town. Plus I stopped by one time to use there restrooms and they said you have to buy somthing so I got a shot... it cost me 9 bucks for a shot of sambuka (that's including a tip for the bar maid of 2 bucks) but still lol way over priced

Yelp
I went to a Pub Honey Martin. The place is very cool, very small and the people stay very close each other. It makes the space more cozy. The price is a little expensive and the service is non-existent. But the place is cool and there's good music and band playing. I recommend.
