While camping at Jordan Lake in Apex we just learned about Meads. I love wine and I love honey so what a perfect adult beverage that was created thousands of years ago (actually the very first alcoholic beverage) and it’s called a Mead. Owner Robby and Mead Maker William shared with us the different kinds of Meads they offer. I began with a flight and purchased several bottles to go! Highly recommend! I wish Google offered 10-star Reviews, this place definitely earns it! The friendly, personable service we received will be remembered for years to come. We can’t wait to bring our adult kids here on our next camping trip!

Google
Love the new location in the American Tobacco Campus. It's open, beautiful and well laid out. Who knew you could have >25 taps of mead and cider?? While I haven't tried them all, the ones I did try were well made and hit tasted like their description. Honestly they are the best mead in the triangle these days and I'll be back often!

Google
I was here on Friday. I came to North Carolina to visit friends and decided to buy drinks for the evening. I found a meadery on Google maps, I wanted to choose a few cans of different flavors. I saw pictures on the menu that they had cans for $8-12 each. I was the only customer. The young woman immediately greeted me and led me to the counter with bottles, where the prices were $15 for a small bottle, other larger ones for $28 and $30. I bought 2 bottles. We drank one in the evening with a friend, for our taste it was not worth $30, it was not rich. I have not opened the second bottle yet. Overall, the place is small but cozy. The woman was polite and friendly. But I think the prices are too high.

Google
Great Meade! The new show is very clean and aesthetic. It can be a little hard to find, but there's plenty of seating when you get there.

Google
Awesome place! All the meads have a unique and fantastic flavor! Highly recommend

Google
This place is so cute and the mead is so good! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and will give recommendations as well. My friends and I did tasting flights and then bought bottles, it’s all delicious! The speciality seasonal flavors are fun and change a lot.

Google
The bartender was so sweet and knowledgeable! We got a flight and tried 4 different meads and she also recommended a few others to taste. It's a small, cozy place and the drinks were all very distinct and tasty. I will absolutely be back here! What a hidden gem!

Google
What a great place!!! It was a small space but they had covered picnic tables outside. The honey girl herself was very friendly and knowledgeable. The idea of flights allows you to taste many to find your liking. We found it to be a great selection and even brought bottles home of our faves for later.

Yelp
Had a good experience here for a first visit. This place was not the easiest to find when you use Google and park on the outside. It took some wandering around to locate. Midday Monday visit on a cold afternoon. We were the only people there which was somewhat nice to have the place to ourselves for a bit. We loved the decor and varied seating options. It was a movie day so there was a movie playing on the projector and complimentary movie style popcorn. There were a couple variations of the menu. We had to ask to receive the recommendations flights menu. We each ordered a different type of flight type. I must confess mead based "beer" or "wine" is maybe not my thing because I didn't love most flavors but could say I appreciated maybe one or two of the 3 sets of flights we all ordered. The service was good. For the most part our server was friendly, and accommodating. I wish there would have been more information on the mead process. Any information from the server had to be directly and intentionally garnered none was offered freely. Overall a good thing to try once if you've never been.

Yelp
This was a charming spot to enjoy a few drinks and unwind. Our small group visited and sampled several flights of their meads and ciders. They offer a nice variety, ranging from sweet to dry, making it the perfect place for a relaxed afternoon.

Yelp
First time having mead! We got two flights between the three of us and really enjoyed it! We kicked back on the comfy couch and enjoyed the atmosphere. Bartender was friendly and helped us order our flights. Our favorites were the persimmon and honey chai.

Yelp
Y'all, this is such a cute spot! I've never had mead before so we spontaneously decided to go here to celebrate a friend's bday. I got the Strawberry Guava mead: it is on the sweeter side, which I enjoyed. I also tried my friends' Apple Cyser, which was pretty dry, and Bee-Dazzlement cider, a great alternative if you want something with a lower alcohol content. The employees are so nice, they gave us a lot of recommendations and even let us sample a mead. Ambiance is amazing, honestly seems like a cozy place to study/work (but alas free downtown parking during the day on weekdays is basically nonexistent). There are super close by parking garages that are free after 7pm on weekdays and anytime on weekends though. 10/10 would recommend!

Yelp
Just a little shop right by the new police department...kind of an industrial area with loading docks. The inside is not large but there are plenty of picnic tables and umbrellas outside. My sister and I came here since we had always wanted to try mead. We both got flights and sat outside for a while. It was quiet (only one other couple) but it was also still early. My sister really enjoyed hers and bought a couple of bottles to take home. I need to go back and try more since I finally realized towards the end of my flight that I should have gotten more of the dryer ones (I wasn't a fan of the sweet!) but at that point, I didn't need to drink anymore LOL. The lady pouring was VERY knowledgeable and helpful, answering all of our questions. It was a neat and different experience that I would like to try again...maybe even go on a tour and find out how mead is made. It seems like it would be very interesting.

Yelp
I don't think I'd had but a small sip of mead previously, and Honeygirl made for a fine introduction. The tasting room is small but bright and clean. Combined with a friendly and knowledgeable staff, it makes for an inviting space. Honeygirl offers more than a dozen meads from basic to barrel aged and semi-sweet to dry. The ingredients are sourced locally (and, in one case, foraged by the manager) and incorporate a variety of apples and herbs. Hard-pressed (pun semi-intended) to make a decision, my wife and I settled on a flight consisting of spiced apple cyser, farmhouse wildflower, hibiscus lemonthyme, and tri-berry. The wildflower was all that I expected mead to be: a smooth honey wine. The cyser boasted some nice spice notes, but it also made me realize that I strongly prefer cider to its wine-based cousin. The tri-berry, on the other hand, was outstanding. A seasonal offering, it brings together mulberries, blackberries, blueberries, and black currant juice. The resulting concoction offered complex flavors and was not too sweet. We liked it so much that we ended up getting a bottle to take home. Honeygirl isn't cheap - a flight of four is $15 and most glasses are in the $8-$12 range - but it's a great way to try something different.

Yelp
This was my first time trying mead and it was delicious! The service was amazing and she let us sample so many before our purchasing our flight. Fantastic experience and i look forward to returning with my friends!

Yelp
Truly a hidden gem! 15 dollars for a flight isn't bad at all and I loved loved the mead. My favorite was the strawberry lemonade flavor. All the flavors I choose were smooth and smelled so good. Service was excellent. The lady that helped me was very informative and nice. I would definitely come back again with my friends after a long day of work!

Yelp
Very welcoming staff. It's clean inside and in public bathrooms. There is indoor and outdoor seating. There is ample street parking. Honeygirl Meadery has great service. This was my second time here. I enjoy the Mead and all the different flavors. My favorite is the Ginger Peach.
google avatar

Rebecca S.

Yelp
This was a small meadery but super cute and the guy there was very chill and told us about the place and a lot about their meads. This was a new experience for us so we tried a flight. Favorite was the triberry. It was light fruity but yet still dry. I'm a red wine girl but this one wasn't bad and not over sweet just right. The other three were just ok.

Yelp
This is a local gem! An adorable little shop in the industrial looking building. Some inside seating, but most of it is outside. Most tables have umbrellas, which come summer, will be necessary. Huge selection of meads & it is changing all the time. We did flights. My friend made her own 4 choices. I was a little overwhelmed so did a pre-designed one. I had 4 bubblies & they were good - my favorite of the 4 was the Ginger Peach. There is a mix of different styles (sweet, sour, dry) and all types of flavors so should be something for almost everyone. I would highly recommend Honeygirl as something fun for locals and as something unique to take visitors to try.

Yelp
I love supporting small businesses so hitting this little spot up was a definite must while in NC. It was a surprise visit by my wife who knows I love wineries and specialty wines make me happy. Not knowing what to expect, we pulled up to an industrial building which threw us a bit but we went with it and decided on two different flights. The wines were... interesting. Since they are honey based wines, the after taste from a couple were non too pleasing but I enjoyed the apple spice and really liked the sparkling lavender and lemon. So much so I left with three bottles. It will be perfect once spring hits with floral ice cubes! I t was nice to sit outside in the crisp air and enjoy some wine and chat about random happenings.
google avatar

Daniela A.

Yelp
Great place to sit and enjoy a sunny afternoon. I tried a "flight of meads" it's was really good and tasty, the staff was friendly and they were open to let us change some flavors. There's limited sitting inside but outside is really nice, some tables with umbrellas for a great atmosphere.

Yelp
Wow they have certainly expanded their selection! There are numerous tasty meads to taste and purchase. Tasting prices are reasonable. The meads seem a little pricy, but typical for comparable products and they are worth the expense. Most of the 375 mL meads are $16.99 (note: the barrel aged wildflower mead is $26.99 for 375 mL) and 750 mL are $24.99. You can buy the meads at the meadery or online. I recommend buying them in the meadery, that way you can taste them first, meet the welcoming and enthusiastic employees/owner, and tour the meadery. I have signed up to help bottle meads here in the past. It was a fun experience, but I am unsure if they still offer seasonal employee bottling positions. Their hours have expanded so there are more times available to visit the meadery. We have visited the meadery multiple times and will likely return. I highly recommend stopping by and trying their tasty, unique meads!

Yelp
What a hidden gem. A meadery in the middle of the urban area of Durham, just a few minutes off of 147 near DPAC, easy enough to get to with street parking nearby. There isn't much inside seating, but in the days of COVID, the picnic tables outside are a better choice and a lot more space there. The staff is super knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. They'll set you up with pre-planned flites or you can customize, or just get the Strawberry Habanero or any of the bourbon barrel varieties and you'll be happy! Also, the virtual taste testing throughout the pandemic were great. We did them with our family around the country (HG shipped to them quickly) and had so much fun that when my brother and his wife visited, this was a must visit on their agenda. So grab their mead if you can find it carried near you, order some online, or definitely find your way over to visit when you're in Durham.

Yelp
I've enjoyed Honeygirl Meadery ever since trying them at the farmers market. I finally got a chance to stop into the physical location/brewery one Saturday with some friends. We all enjoyed the tasting first. We tried 4 different flavors for $6. My favorite were the more dry flavors- the apple cyset and the hibiscus lemonthyme. The hibiscus lemonthyme reminded me of a delicious herbal tea. I ended up ordering a whole glass of that one. Unique product and adorable location! I also love their logo, the tobacco tower with bee wings coming out of it!

Yelp
As a non-wine drinker, I am thoroughly impressed with the mead produced at Honeygirl Meadery in Durham! I happened to join a tasting when owner Diane came to Raleigh, and I'm so glad I tried it. The meadery is located less than a mile outside of downtown Durham & close to the highway so it's super convenient. You can do a tasting, drink a glass or three, and buy a bottle to go too! My favorite are the semi-sweet ones (blueberry or lemonthyme). They also use local honey from Durham too! They offer tastings from 1-6 on Saturdays & Sundays, and sometimes on Friday nights when the weather is nice. You can often snag a Groupon too, but tastings alone are super affordable (think like $7-10) and you get to keep the glass. The tour is awesome too because you learn so much about the mead-making process, why the flavors differ based on what flowers bees pollinate, and more. Last Saturday, they were also serving up Strawberry Meadmosas! They mixed prosecco with some of their strawberry mead, then garnished it with a few fresh strawberry slices. Sooooo good! Do yourself a favor & check out Honeygirl... promise you won't be disappointed :)

Yelp
I never really thought about drinking mead before, it just sounded like it would be too sweet, but Honeygirl visited our local bottle shop, BottleMixx in Raleigh NC, recently so I thought I would try it -- really enjoyed the Mango Mead, a refreshing summer drink...we plan to visit their place in Durham soon!

Yelp
Review no. 700 was spent sippin' on mead at Honeygirl Meadery in Durham (it is located within walking distance from Ponysaurus Brewing Co.) The meadery is small so beware because it can/will get packed since the tasting room is only open on Saturday's from 1-6PM. For $5 try four meads or try them all for $8 (this is a no brainer, try them all). This includes a souvenir Honeygirl Meadery glass, choose stem or no stem. I will have to say for the place being so packed the bartender did a fantastic job at keeping everyones glasses full and remembering where they were at in their tasting. My favorites were definitely the Orange Blossom and Lavender. Boyfriend enjoyed the Ginger too but you must love ginger in order to like this one. We were debating on which bottle of mead to purchase so when we discovered a bottle of the Spiced Apple Cyser (this was not available on the tour since they are currently making more) we purchased that to give it a try. It was okay, not one that I would purchase again. So much fun to change it up from breweries and to get to try a meadery!

Yelp
Stopped by with a groupon with low expectations, but ended up being very impressed with this establishment! For those who haven't had mead before, mead is basically a wine using fermented honey instead of fermented grapes. The taste is sweet but still has about a 12% ABV kick. Every Saturday this local meadery opens up to public for mead tastings and free tours, and the afternoon that I stopped by it was absolutely packed in there. Despite the fact that nearly 20 customers were trying to crowd around the small tasting room, the owner Diane and her helper were extremely patient, attentive, and generous to each customer. Service was truly outstanding, and Diane never got overwhelmed by all the people trying to get their mead tastings in. It made all the difference! There are a few picnic tables outside but nowhere else really to sit down to enjoy your drink. The space is also pretty tight so expect to stand the entire time that you're there. Other than that, this little meadery is a fun afternoon outing in Durham and I'd definitely return for a bottle!

Yelp
Love this place!! I visited at least 4 times while on assignment in Durham! They take pride & care into making their products! I'm definitely going to order more bottles online! I even shared & gifted some bottles to family and they loved them as well!!

Yelp
Everyone is always so friendly and helpful. In enjoyed my visit and it was a lovely day to enjoy the outside seating area while sipping on these delicious cocktails!

Yelp
My friend and I purchased a Groupon for a mead tasting here. Seems like a lot of people discover this place on Groupon. The Groupon for the mead tasting was for four samples of mead. When we went, we had a list of six to choose from. The four I chose to taste were hibiscus lemonthyme, blueberry, orange blossom, and honey chai. (The other two available were wildwood and vanilla.) My two favorites were the honey chai and blueberry. The honey chai was the sweetest one and I found the flavor to be most interesting. In total, the amount of mead per person ended up being probably a little more than half a glass. It was a cool experience and it was nice being able to sample four different types of mead for just a few bucks.

Yelp
I love their wine! It makes my heart sing! I love the taste of honey so when it's mead it's definitely a win!

Yelp
I absolutely love this Meadery!! I have visited many many different Meaderies in the US and Europe and have to say this is one is in my top three overall. It's absolutely the best one in North Carolina. They use fresh local ingredients and come up with really interesting flavor combinations. My favorites are their Lavender, their Orange Blossom, and their Spiced Apple. The new Honey Chai Mead was a big hit at my house too. The operation is a small family run business. Their employees are happy and friendly and always greet their guests at the door. I say guests because it is such a welcoming place that you don't just feel like another customer. They offer tours and host other fun events throughout the year. We recently went for their holiday open house. We had fun decorating cookies and making our own ornaments out of their corks. It is a very cool place to check out and to bring out of town guests to when they visit. One of the best parts is that with every tasting you do there you get to take your stemless HoneyGirl Meadery wine glass home with you! We have quite a collection now and they are the only glasses we really use at home anymore as they are the perfect size and dishwasher safe!
google avatar

Yelp
Very friendly great tasting mead and fair priced. I would recommend based on atmosphere and friendly staff alone plus good mead.
google avatar

Robert L.

Yelp
Always a treat visiting this place. We go a few times a year and have loved seeing this small business grow. Their meads are so good and they are constantly cycling new ones which makes each trip feel fun and new. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. A perfect place to come try a different kind of adult beverage and just relax.
google avatar

Carl K.

Yelp
I wasn't sure what mead was so decided to check them out. So glad I did. My friend and I went to the tasting and had a great time. We liked the leavender and apple spice cyser. The apple spice tasted like thanksgiving. We also went on the tour. Diane was our tour guide. She was very informative and knew her mead.
google avatar

Pat L.

Yelp
This is a must visit destination. Even with COVID they have it all figured out and on a 90 degree afternoon it was so enjoyable to enjoy a tasting flight. Semi- quiet for being in an urban area. We tasted the blueberry, hibiscus/lemon, mango and lavender. Also the mango habanero!!!! Loved it! My husband loved the wildflower mead barrel aged. On their website they have cocktail recipes so we bought the blueberry and mango to try those recipes. Next stop will be our own porch!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I have never had Mead before. My wife though we should check this place out. A nice looking place but was it worth the stop. John was our host and did a great job explaining what Mead was and we sampled quite a few and even purchase the blueberry Mead to take home. Very reasonable priced with a friendly staff. A must stop when you're in Raleigh

Christine N.

Yelp
Great time! Loved the different tastes in their flights. The staff is attentive and helpful. Super clean. The BA fig recently won an award. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and I had a great time here today. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about their product. We had a tasting and a tour. We then hung out and just looked around a little. Pet friendly too. We will be back.

Yelp
Brought my dad and stepmom here to try meads for the first time! They were impressed and we left with 4 bottles. It is a very small place, but a great experience. We used the groupon to taste all 8 meads, which was $11 for 4 plus $2/per person to upgrade to taste all 8. Less than $20 for a group, how great! It even included a honeygirl meadery glass for each person. The tour is worth sticking around for if you're new to meads and curious about the company. Also, try the lemonade with lavender mead beverage if they have it! Very refreshing.

Amber H.

Yelp
This was my first time at a meadery and we had a great time! My friend and I did the full flight. My favorites were the Spiced Apple Cyser and Lavender Mead. The staff was informative, fun, and nice! We came about 30 mins before close and it wasn't very busy. After the tasting we had a glass of Lavender Lemonade. So refreshing!! They have coloring pages out so you can color as well. I liked that extra touch. Overall, great time. If I'm in Durham again I would definitely go back. I'll probably end up ordering some Lavender Mead to make the lemonade at home too.

Yelp
For the last week and half, I've eagerly been awaiting my first trip to Honeygirl. I love me some mead and while I certainly enjoy a trip to Starrlight in Pittsboro, something about mead in downtown DRM really speaks to me. I had e-mailed the proprietor, Diane, awhile back about the feasibility of setting up a tour and tasting for my running group and she was happy to oblige. After a quick stop across the parking lot at Bull City Ciderworks, we made our way to the sparkling, new space occupied by Diane and Honeygirl. We sampled hibiscus lemonthyme, a fruity, floral, off-dry mead that weighs in at 11.5% ABV; blueberry, a fruity, dry mead with 11.5% ABV; and strawberry a delicate, fruity, dry mead with 12.5% ABV. During our tour, Diane was kind enough to let us sample a work in progress---a beet mead. Definitely not much of a beet guy but it was fun to try nonetheless! At the end of our super reasonably priced $5 tasting and tour, we were surprised to learn that the nifty tasting glasses were ours to keep. Nice touch! A welcome addition to the Durham drinks scene and a little extra variety on the mead shelf at Sam's. Perhaps most importantly, first to review y'all.

Yelp
This was my first time checking out honeygirl meadery. I'm not a huge mead drinker, but this place offers a tasting of all their current products for $7. I tried 6 different meads and found two that were quite tasty. My favorite was the spiced apple cider. They also offer recipe ideas to mix the meads with fruit or liquor, which is a cool take-home concept. Only draw back is that inside is quite small, standing room only. They do offer outdoor seating on nice days, however.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
This place is great we stopped in for a tasting and a tour. The mead is delicious and the people are nice. We purchased a few bottles of cider mead.
google avatar

Elise H.

Yelp
I was very impressed with the mead here! I love all types of mead (sweet and dry), and the mead here definitely seemed more on the dry side. It was delicious, though, and the flavors are unique. My favorites were the wildwood, vanilla, and ginger. And the people working there were very friendly. Highly recommend visiting!
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
Good tasting however would have been better with more education about if mead is made. Used a Groupon and got a free glass with it!

Yelp
The Hibiscus and the Lavender Meads are wonderful!! Owner is truly sweet and LOVES what she does. I did the tour and we had a great time. First time tasting mead and felt it was superb! I learned about Starrlight from an email from the listserv. What a delight this place (and mead!) is!!!
