Pop-Up Chef Omar Tate on How He Found His Inspiration | Eater

"A dinner pop-up series launched in early winter 2018 by the author as a culinary and artistic project dedicated to exploring Black heritage and culture through food and storytelling; rooted in personal and ancestral foodways, the series stages evocative, research-driven meals that interpret nuanced historical narratives and is intended to grow into a lasting institution where food, art, and scholarship converge." - Omar Tate

It was my first time at Honeysuckle Cafe, and I definitely won’t be back. We went in around 8:30 on a weekday, no ‘Hello’ when we came in. It seemed there was only one woman behind the counter, so not a huge deal. There was no other customers at the time, but she could have been working on to go orders. She came up to the counter without looking at us or acknowledging us, I said “good morning” and she responded with “what can I get for you?”. horrible service ✔️ Maybe the food and coffee would be worth it. We got 2 frappes and 2 orders of crepes. The frappes could have been from McDonald’s. The crepes were cold, served with whipped cream and strawberries. We looked at the menu and realized we could have gotten peanut butter or hazelnut spread which wasn’t offered. She brought our food out to us and said nothing. Another customer came in after us and received the same service, so it wasn’t just us. As I said I definitely won’t be back, it sucks I really wanted to love this small town cafe. And if you didn’t know ‘bathrooms are for customers only’. As you could see with the 17 signs hanging outside.

Y'all need to treat yourself and stop in here! The food is fantastic, the atmosphere (to include other patrons) is wonderful, and the drinks were great! I got the chicken curry sandwich on a croissant and an Italian cream soda. The chicken curry sandwich was THE BEST I've had in over a decade! 🤯 Flakey buttery croissant, greens, and cranberries made it sweet, savory, and tart! I would give this place a 5 star just for the sandwich alone! The raspberry Italian cream soda was light and refreshing and coincidentally paired excellent with the curry sandwich! 10/10 absolutely recommend you support local and try them out! 👍

Delicious french toast and coffee! Great atmosphere.. such a cute place! They had a high chair for my little one too. Very friendly staff and great prices! Such an adorable place, it feels like you’re in a Hallmark movie!

Cute little cafe with great coffee and decent prices. Got really good French toast and an excellent latte for what I would have paid for a McMuffin and coffee elsewhere.

Stopped by and tried the coffee....Mocha Expresso with cinnamon. The drink was wonderful and under $4.00...it was a steal!! Check it out....I will probably see you there!!

They seemed to be a bit short-handed. I had to wait for an additional 15 minutes for a pick-up order because there was only one person trying to run the place alone. She was very good, though

I eat here quite often because of the quality of the food. For great food and friendly atmosphere try it out . However, don't be in a hurry.. the service is very see slow, especially if the owner in not there.. but, the wait is worth the quality.. best in town..

Gonna be singing this place’s praises to anyone who will listen. The owner is charming, the vibes are immaculate, the food is fresh and unique and made with love. I’ve been here twice now and can’t wait to come back. Liberty is lucky to have a spot like this in town!

Yelp
Cute little spot on my way through town. The sandwiches that people were eating looked so good, I just didn't have time to grab one. The pecan coffee I got was delicious - a little sweet, not bitter. Cafe is easy to spot since it's right on the corner, just pulled off into a parking spot. Very nice service.

Yelp
Great little cafe. Food was delicious and staff was friendly. They serve coffees, breakfast, sandwiches, salads and some pasta dishes. We had the French dip sandwich and the curry chicken salad sandwich. Both were delicious and we would definitely recommend this place. We will be back!
