While technically just outside Pembroke Pines, Hong Kong City BBQ is widely recognized as the gold standard for dim sum in Broward County by Miami New Times and Eater Miami. This family-owned restaurant has been serving traditional Cantonese dim sum for decades, with pushcarts on weekends and a lively, bustling atmosphere. Their shrimp har gow, pork siu mai, and turnip cakes consistently earn rave reviews, and the kitchen is helmed by chefs with deep roots in Hong Kong’s culinary traditions. With its loyal local following and glowing mentions in both local and national publications, Hong Kong City BBQ is a must-visit for anyone seeking a true taste of dim sum culture.

Located in Margate on 441 before Commercial BLVD. Hong Kong City BBQ has been opened for I wanna say over 20 years but it probably changed ownership quite a few times. Typical Chinese restaurant with pretty good and tasty dishes. They also offer Dim Sum and roasted duck and BBQ pork. I was in the area so I stopped by to take away some duck and a bit of dim sum. The lady at the front door was very nice and polite.

Google
Old time favorite. Have not been here in a long time. It’s great Chinese food and also great dim sum… everything is fresh. Great portions great service great atmosphere.

Google
We loved this place! It had stellar dim sum and chow fun, good service, and fair prices. We will definitely go back to try the bbq pork, roasted duck, and bok choy with mushrooms, which we saw ordered by another table. This would be a fun place for a small group.

Google
Compared to other Chinese Restaurants in South Florida this place is a 10 out of 10 and is truly amazing. Owner is caring, thoughtful and amazing person. Food is tasty and prepared to your liking. Everything on the menu tastes authentic and delicious. So lucky to have this restaurant in the area. 🙏

Google
They had dim sum available all day. However, my Cantonese friends mentioned that places offering dim sum all day usually serve frozen or pre-made items. Indeed, the xiaolongbao and shrimp dumplings we ordered tasted quite average, and they didn’t have any baked dishes. Our friend ordered wonton soup and cheong fun, and she thought they were okay. I liked their salt and pepper squid and sweet and sour pork and beef chow fun. The pumpkin beef stew and mapo tofu were also favorites among some of us. I would recommend you try their stir-fried dishes, but I wouldn’t particularly recommend the dim sum.

Google
Huge rave about this place and can't say I was thrilled. Service was good but food was decent. No wow and ribs were slim and dry. Don't think we'll be back.

Google
I've been a consistent, though infrequent, visitor to HKBBQ for over a decade. Glad to see that they have maintained their high quality during my visit last week! Dim sum was delicious and service was excellent! The restaurant is very casual and the prices are reasonable for South Florida.

Francois C.

Google
I was globally unimpressed despite its affordability. The stuffed dumplings and dim sum were average, there was hardly any meat on the chopped pork ribs. The sauteed chicken portion was large but lacked taste and the spicy shredded pork was just green hot peppers piled over the meat. Good service. Will not drive all the way again for this.

Yelp
Food excellent and authentic. Service excellent & friendly. Ambience typical of local Chinese restaurant.

Yelp
Update: we returned for dinner, the Peking Duck and although they didn't serve it w cucumber it was overall very good, and we added the soup for an additional $15. The other dishes however fell short... Egg roll: fresh but all veggies no minced pork 3.5/5 Chicken n Broccoli 3/5 Clams w black bean: had sand and not properly washed but flavor was good 3.75/5 Young chow fried rice: 2/5 no wok hai whatsoever Beef chow fun 5/5 they pull their own noodles and has wok hai Sautéed snow pea tips: 2/5 no flavor and definitely no garlic Sweet n sour pork Hong Kong style: cornstarch batter as opposed to flour, something was amiss 2.75/5 Beef w baby bok choy: good just not great 3.5/5 Egg tart: 1/5 all pastry shell with barely any custard filling...you could tell it was the last batch and they filled just enough to squeeze out another order when clearly there was not enough with pastry that is always pale and undercooked. Service was a struggle, older gentleman seemed overwhelmed. Overall the group was not impressed. It is good for select dishes only! Service was a struggle, older gentleman seemed overwhelmed. Yelp
Authentic and delicious Chinese cooking - a rare find in South Florida. This restaurant has been around for generations but with changing ownership through the years. Luckily the food remains good and the chef is still doing a great job bringing traditional and Americanized dishes to customers. If you're looking for take out style entrees lime beef with broccoli or sweet and sour pork, they have it. If you're looking for something more authentic like ginger scallion lobster or bird's nest, they also have it. They offer dim sum all day and have fresh BBQ meats hanging on display. Unfortunately the Sunday late afternoon we dined in, the BBQ duck was already sold out. If you're going for the BBQ options, maybe call before to make sure it's still available. The beef tendon stew casserole was super meaty and tender. The flavors were rich. The chicken salted fish tofu casserole was delicious, not overly salty but still have plenty of umami. The BBQ pork was juicy and smokey. The XO seafood chives stir fry was my favorite, loaded with big pieces of fish and lots of chives but it was a little too oily. The beef chow fun was a little on the bland side but lots of bean sprouts, tender beef and squishy soft noodles. The portion sizes are great for the prices. Will definitely be back again soon!

Yelp
Authentic local Cantonese family-style restaurant! Great food all-around especially if you can order off the "Chinese" menu and not your Americanized staples! Seeing several other reviews commenting about the service - "rough around the edges" could not be a better indicator that you're in the right spot!

Yelp
We had a much better experience here compared to a few years back... Our service was fine -- we were greeted immediately and seated. We had friendly fast service -- unlike the rude lady who waited on us last time. Met a couple friends for lunch and we all ordered off the lunch menu. The pork with mixed veggies was the best of the offerings we chose, followed by my cashew chicken (with lots of nuts). The gal who ordered the lomein said it was rather plain -- but that's as the dish usually is done. I also ordered an item from the dim sum menu to take home. The turnip cake was quite tasty re-heated (my breakfast this morning!). As long time (as in forever/since they first opened) customers, I'm pleased to know we will be back sooner rather than later.

Stopped here again of course for a bite, and the Seafood Noodle basket did not disappoint.

Yelp
Friends recommended Hong Kong City BBQ saying it's a little far but worth the ride to this authentic Chinese Restaurant. We got a group of ten of us together and enjoyed the large round table with a lazy Susan in the center. The restaurant is right off the turnpike with a large parking lot in front. The Chinese BBQ looked appealing, a specialty & unlike other Florida Chinese restaurants. Upon entering this rather plain free standing restaurant, my eyes were drawn to the glass case containing hanging BBQ ducks, pork and ribs. This is the first local Chinese restaurant that barbeques their food in the traditional manner. Our waiter filled the Lazy Susan with plates, cutlery, glasses of water, tea, duck sauce, and mustard. The menu was huge there were pages and pages of food that were well organized. I started with a wonton soup, which was served hot. My husband and I shared an order of spareribs that were a little fatty and not that meaty. We shared a Peking Duck, which was a little difficult to put together myself with the lazy Susan moving. Friends enjoyed shrimp and lobster sauce, Mongolian beef, tofu & vegetables, General Tao's chicken, and beef fried rice. Portions were enormous, we all brought food home. Service was very attentive and prices were very reasonable.

Yelp
The ribs I had were dry and had no taste. For $19.95not worth the money. My sister had the chicken with black bean sauce combo plate which was ok..All in all not worth the money.

Yelp
Have eaten there at least once/month since the review from 13 years ago:) Still fantastic!

Yelp
I absolutely love how sweet the lady in the front is. Definitely coming back. I ordered a bunch of food and they gave me free duck head for my cane corso. I've never had such sweet hospitality

Pharrah W.

Yelp
Used to be my families favorite but not anymore. Recently the food hasn't been as good as it used to. The lo mein was dry with little to know flavor and this is the second time this has happened. The overall quality of the food went down.

Yelp
Valentine's Day 2025. Made a reservation and we're seated within 15 minutes. We started with shrimp dumplings that were very good. Onto the 3 1/2 pound lobster expertly prepared with ginger and scallion. We could not have been happier with the lobster, the waitress brought it out so we could see the size and how lively it was. We ordered a side of eggplant with beef and a roast pork lo mein. Everything was flavorful and on point. The venue will make you feel like you're in Chinatown in Manhattan. They have duck and ribs hanging in the window as you enter. It's not fancy by any means but the food is very good. Thank you, Nancy!

Yelp
We had another really good lunch at Hong Kong City BBQ today. We had some authentic Chinese dishes and all of them were done perfectly. The service was very good and very friendly. We had brought a cake for a friend's birthday and they were very good about keeping it cold and brought it at the end, not without asking if that was the proper time to bring the cake. Very good service, great prices, great flavors !!!
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Most of the food we ordered from here today was flavorless and really seemed undercooked. The sweet and sour chicken had tons of breading with chicken that didn't taste like anything. The pork fried rice was weak in taste and didn't seam that fried. No smoky flavor like cooked in a real wok. The chicken fried rice was awful! Not only were the pieces of chicken weirdly long and stringy, they were slimy with no flavor at all. It's like they didn't fry this food at all, just boiled it or didn't cook it enough. The wonton soup broth had very little odd taste. The sweet and sour sauce was just sweet, also lacking flavor. The egg rolls seemed too crunchy and heavy. Needless to say, I would avoid this place at all costs.

Yelp
We came here on Chinese New Year (Year of the Snake) for lunch and it was a nice dining experience. We tried many types of dim sum, including crispy taro spring roll, fried stuffed eggplant, snow pea tips shrimp dumplings, steamed chicken and shrimp mushroom bun, and stuffed bean curd skin. It's nice to know there is some good dim sum in South Florida and we will be back to try more very soon...

Yelp
Visited for the first time with a big group of 12 people for a birthday celebration. We were seated pretty quickly. Food was delicious and menu had a great variety of Chinese options. Give this place a try if you are looking for authentic Chinese food/ Hong Kong food!

Todd K.

Yelp
Food was authentic, hot and very flavorful. Derice was quick and very pleasant. Price was very reasonable. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
The restaurant is fire get the fried port tenderloin ...to die for. Ask Rinja he is an absolute legend
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
This is your classic old school Chinese sit down restaurant with ducks and pork hanging in the window. If that's your jam, this is as good as it gets in SoFlo. My go to here is almost everything. The soups are delicious. Nothing bland and always served hot. I tend to get sliced pork from them at least once every week or two. The Chinese dishes are all authentic style and they will know all the tricks. You like the shrimp in lobster sauce with the brown sauce and not the white sauce, they will do it for you. You want you chow mein with the "saucy" onions, they will hook you up. In other words if they don't make it like you remember it just ask and they have always been able to make it for me. They have very diverse of dim sum too and round tables with lazy Susan's so perfect for a big party who likes to share. Not many places like this left down here and this is a gem.
google avatar

Larry S.

Yelp
It's been awhile since I was here last. I noticed they put down new floors. Much better than the carpet. As always the dinner was great. It was super busy this night as most Sundays are. This caused a bit of a slow down for both the wait staff and kitchen. The food was great. Big fan of the sauteed green beans.
google avatar

Kyle R.

Yelp
Love this place. The food is always amazing. The veggie lo mein is fantastic. General Tso's and sweet and sour chicken is equally good. If you like spice, the Szechuan shrimp is out of this world. You will get a large helping so bring a friend and share. Their menu is large, and you may need to take your time going through it. Likewise the prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. The service can be rough sometimes as they can clean up unexpectedly or may seem impatient when you are ordering. However, they check in frequently with you to make sure you have everything. They even make suggestions if it's your first time. Moreover, they make sure you table is clean and orderly and change the table cloths in between settings. The ambiance is lacking. It does have plenty of seating (although they get busy, so pack your patience. The food is worth the wait.) and parking. The tables have white cloth, but the place could use a good painting and newer fixtures. It seems outdated. The entrance is crowded and tight which is not conducive to anyone in a wheelchair or with a cane. They are also authentic Chinese food, and have cooked rabbit or duck hanging at a station. This maybe unappealing to some.

Yelp
Right away very busy with Togos ,, got seated right away not too many eat ins ,, some people look like regulars,, live lobster , 2 tvs on the news and 3 polite quick servers ,,, out food came in good timing ,, silverware needed polishing water stains on them ,, no chop sticks offered we didn't ask either,, all sodas are can again which i personally prefer,, I had hot tea ,, the chicken wings would be what I would go back for they were the star honey smack my lips , the fries noodle with beef kinda not what I thought ,, I know its fried noodles but they were just too crunchy for me like the noodles out the package before they are cooked ,, the early bird special was nice a general tso chicken served with white rice , soup and egg roll great price and value ,, we shared the meals and obviously took the rest home ,, too much for just us two ,, the staff friendly and attentive pay at the table and they even packed my food to go table side .

Yelp
We went based on other yelp reviews and boy did it NOT disappoint!! Small place, definitely full of regulars and you could just tell the food was going to be good. It was all delicious, and the service was even better

Yelp
I grew up coming to this restaurant with my pops, through all the different owners but the decor always somehow stayed the same. I hadn't been here since my pops passed in 2018 and quite literally maybe even much longer than that? Service is mid but I don't mind I grew up in it, this is the culture of Cantonese people. So if you're coming for the service, you can expect it to be mid! But the food.... where do I begin? Every dish has been a banger! But there are a few staples that are always ordered. The salt and pepper pork chops, the beef chow fun, and the cantonese beef tendon stew. Sometimes we like to throw in the salt and pepper chicken wings if we're feeling fancy. We have ordered takeout and dined in many times before, every single time it's a win!
google avatar

Andrea C.

Yelp
Not fancy, but wow is this place good! This is as good as NYC Chinese food, and very reasonably priced. We started with 4 orders of dim sum. Way too much for 2 people, but we didn't care. Steamed shrimp dumplings, steamed bbq pork bun, fried pork dumplings, chive pancake. All delicious. Then we had roast pork lo mein, and salt and pepper shrimp, also both perfect. We had plenty to take home. It gets busy, we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. But worth it. I will 100% be back.

Jay H.

Yelp
"Chinatown" Chinese. Storefront but pleasant inside. Great service! Order family style because portions are huge. Varied menu including dim sum. Well return.
google avatar

Lex L.

Yelp
I recently ordered beef chow fun to-go along with a whole roasted duck and it was a fantastic experience! The noodles remained perfectly cooked even after the trip home, with a wonderful chewy texture and just the right amount of oil. The beef was tender and flavorful, seasoned perfectly, and the dish had a generous portion of beef. The scallions and bean sprouts added a nice crunch and freshness to the dish. Having never tried beef chow fun before, I must say I'm glad that I went out on a limb and tried this because it's now one of my favorite go-to Chinese dishes. The savory sauce tied everything together beautifully, making each bite delightful. If you're a fan of beef chow fun or looking to try it, I highly recommend. The duck was nice and moist even after placing in the oven once home just to crisp up the skin! Excellent. We will be back!
google avatar

Burj S.

Yelp
We have been coming here for quite a while now and once again, the orphans are here for lunch. We usually order our standard dishes, which include the soy sauce, chicken, the char siu pork, the young chow, fried rice, the salt and pepper, pork chops, and our favorite, which is the Weslake beef soup. We find this to be one of the most authentic Cantonese style, Chinese restaurants. The service here is always polite and prompt, my fellow Yelpers if you are looking for some authentic family style Chinese food, I would still recommend you trying out HKCBBQ!! Ask for the owner Tony and tell him I sent you!

Jodi C.

Yelp
T The best food around for year. Been going for over 20 years always the freshest food hot and tasty

David S.

Yelp
Authentic NY style BBQ and Chinese dishes. Large menu, delicious and fresh. Staff is great!!

Yelp
Awesome, if you want real Chinese food, this is a place to go. The staff are helpful. Places is relatively clean. Food is kick ass.

Yelp
Limited dim sum menu but large regular menu. Friendly and attentive staff. You didn't feel rushed. They answered our questions. Food appeared authentic. Service was fast. Space is not very large but accommodated our group of 5 with no problem. Lots of parking.
google avatar

Yelp
Usually go to another dim sum place that's been a favorite of the family; a friend suggested this place, so here I am. Great food and service; ambiance was okay because one really comes for the dim sum. Enjoy
google avatar

Seth M.

Yelp
First, the food at this place is as good as any place I've eaten in China Town in NYC. They should be packed every night, but people in FL may prefer garbage takeout. We had the roast duck, pan fried noodles, spare ribs, and steak kew. Everything was phenomenal, by far the best Chinese fare I've had in FL by a LANDSLIDE. On top of having incredible food, the service is top notch. The servers are always out on the floor looking for anyone in need of help and happy to help. What a great find! Highly recommend to anyone looking for solid NYC Chinese BBQ!!!
google avatar

Sherry W.

Yelp
We had great service and food the Sunday we visited. We had a reservation since it was the Lunar New Year and The place was packed. Prices are reasonable and the food delicious. They have a large dim sum menu. You mark your order on a sheet. The dim sum came out in stages. We also ordered a tasty pork noodle dish. The lazy Susan makes it easy to share dishes. There is plenty of parking in the attached lot. The tea had leaves in it. I prefer when the leaves are filtered out.
google avatar

Jordan C.

Yelp
Have been looking for a good dim sum place in the Fort Lauderdale area - this fit the bill. Felt very familiar and comfortable in terms of dim sum places, and they had all of my favorites on the list. Plan to come back again soon with more friends.
google avatar

Joseph W.

Yelp
Disappointing. Theyre all about large portions, but the pepper steak I got was low quality. They corn starch the meat to death, which makes it edible. The dish comes out on a hot platter and I had grease droplets end up on my shirt. Hardly any onions or green peppers. The bill was $33. I handed over $40, but I had to ask for my change. The waiter evidently assumed he was entitled to a 20% tip. Ill tip, but give the customer the opportunity or just bake the tip into the price. Disappointing is the bottom line
google avatar

Joe B.

Yelp
The food is mostly good. It's a hit and miss... sometimes it's absolutely delicious and other times it's terrible. Consistency is a major issue. The staff are hard working and helpful. I just wish it was more consistent!

Andrew G.

Yelp
Food was good for the area can't complain Love how quick delivery and service is Definitely worth a try for margate residents

Mike T.

Yelp
Simply incredible. If you're looking for an authentic spot with amazing service, a happy family vibe, and simply amazing food, you've found it. Couldn't recommend enough!

Yelp
No ambience whatsoever, but incredibly FRESH and delicious food!!! Orange beef to die for!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm not a fan of this restaurant; but everyone who was with me loved their dishes. Mine were not what i expected--egg soup was watery, my shrimp in lobster sauce was all sauce but not thick as I am used to, my wife's general Tao's chicken tasted ok but you find the chicken. Like a said everyone liked their food . But it is not NYC Chinese style that I am use to in fl .
google avatar

Kimi Y.

Yelp
Stopped by Sunday lunch in the heavy rain, first time per my friend's recommendation. Dim sums were so good delicious, Szechuan garlic chicken was not on the pic, great too. Hot tea was good with dim sum , highly recommended.

Yelp
Once again we returned to Hong Kong City for our favorite meal, Lobster in Ginger Sauce. We each ordered the same thing. Service was great as usual. We will be back again soon.
google avatar

helen l.

Yelp
Well, it's feeding time again. So, we found this place. Doesn't look like much on the outside, and maybe 75 people can fit inside. The service could use some support. However, the food was delicious and tasted fresh. We had strawberry grouper, great taste, and cooked well. The Egg Foo Young was tasty and plentiful. The staff was friendly.
google avatar

Grace S.

Yelp
What a great homely restaurant that has the authenticity of a real restaurant in downtown Hong Kong! From the moment you walk in, the owner (lady) greets you with a huge smile and warm Pat on the back. The clientele is mostly Asian which validates the authenticity of the meals! Pan fried noodles were amazing. If you have issues with salt be sure to tell the to be light with the salt. For the appetizer a large soup will easily serve 5-6 people. Chicken and shrimp dishes were delicious and cooked to perfection. The staff constantly come over and check on you and bring any sauces you need on request. If you are a crab lover, call ahead 24 hours in advance and they will specially create a dish for you!
google avatar

Emmily S.

Yelp
Best chinese food I've had in tamarac! Authentic flavors for every dish. My duck fried rice was absolutely delicious and as you can tell from the portions they are very generously served. The ordering system was new to me and was pretty fun to fill out. Quiet place nice for a date or family dinner. Attentive waiters and hostess that helped us out through the menu. We have done takeout as well and it was great with the exception of the hot&sour soup which was not my fav but their mixed egg drop&wonton soup made up for it!
