Hong Kong City Mall

I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was unacceptable. The owner, a woman, was extremely rude and discriminatory toward me, my mom, and my aunt. We politely asked about sandal sizes. When we mentioned size 8, she immediately said the largest size was 7. My aunt then explained she wears a size 7 and asked to try a pair, but the owner began shouting that they did not have size 7 in any shoes, even though she had just said they did. On top of that, she kept changing the prices and raising them from what was clearly written on the tags. Her tone was aggressive, disrespectful, and completely uncalled for. I was trying to give my visiting family a nice experience and show them something different, but instead we were treated poorly and made to feel unwelcome. This encounter left a very bad impression, not only of this business but of the store as a whole. I would not recommend this place to anyone

10/26/2025: Hong Kong City Mall has been around for decades. It is definitely past its prime with the mall looking run down and old. There was about 15-20% closed stores in the mall.

I recently visited this Hong Kong Vity Mall and was impressed by the amazing variety of products they offer. If you're looking for any item from East Asia, this is definitely the place to find it! From food ingredients to household items, they have almost everything you need. The most interesting part of the store for me is the section at the back with beautiful ceramic dishes such unique and delicate pieces that are hard to find elsewhere. However, the hygiene in the store could be improved, especially in some areas. Despite that, the quality and variety of products make it worth visiting. I'll definitely be coming back for their unique selection!

Great place to get any Vietnamese food and walk around mall area.

Let me tell you, Hong Kong City Mall is such a lively and colorful place. It’s full of energy with all kinds of shops, restaurants, jewelry stores, beauty salons, and even legal offices. Every time I go, I’m amazed by how much there is to see and taste. It reminds me of when I used to travel when I was younger, with all the smells, flavors, and friendly faces in one place. Some people say the building is a little old now, but to me the spirit of the place is what matters, and that has not faded at all. The community loves it, and there’s always something new to discover. I would gladly recommend it to anyone who wants a warm, vibrant spot full of culture and good food.

Nice little mall here with many Vietnamese shops. Grabbed a souvenir dvd for my dad for very cheap. Great place to escape the heat and get authentic vietnamese food.

I always go to Hong Kong City Mall for grocery shopping and other purchases. It is the biggest Asian plaza in Houston, Texas, because it has the largest market, many gift shops, jewelry stores, restaurants, hair and nail salons, law firms, insurance agencies, and many other businesses. I like Hong Kong Supermarket because they have almost everything I need for grocery shopping.

Hong Kong City Mall has great Vietnamese stores and an affordable supermarket, though prices are slowly creeping up. The mall itself is outdated, dirty, and in need of a cleanup and upgrade, but they do offer free fast WiFi.

Love coming here when in Houston. They have all sorts of shops and eateries. The grocery store has abundant of items available. Quite festive and clean. Highly recommend.

In the vicinity of an Asian community, mostly Vietnamese, is a small mall filled with gifts shops, Vietnamese eateries and snacks, boba teas, Chinese and Vietnamese dress shops, a supermarket, and hair and nail salons. The exterior and interior looks outdated and it appears that the locals comes here a lot and hangout. People are sitting at food court playing Chinese chess board games or just chit chatting. I liked the snacks options at several locations throughout the mall. However, there's nothing much here. You can walk through the mall in ten minutes.

I came here late on a Friday night after dining nearby. I'm always down to explore new places, so I wanted to check this out while I was close. I've heard about it before but not being originally from the area, I'm only familiar with the history of it from word of mouth. I came in about 30 minutes before most of the businesses were going to close for the night, so I was not lingering too long in any one shop. Being someone who always wants to support local businesses, I made it a point to purchase some food from several of the bakeries located in there. If I hadn't already eaten, I'd definitely would've bought a bánh mì. Everything I did buy was reasonably priced and tasted great! Each shop had its own vibe, with most of them being Vietnamese operated. As always when I have the opportunity, I took the chance to practice my tiếng việt, with mixed results but all of the shop staff were helpful and polite, even when my tones were off. In my case, they greeted me upon entering and let me browse to my hearts content, not saying much until I asked a question or made a statement. I appreciate the relaxed vibe myself. There were so many food, snacks and drinks that I felt a little remorse for what I did not purchase. That being said, I'll return another day, much earlier and take more time to browse. I didn't make it into the grocery store, so I'll do that on my next visit as well. This was probably one of the least busy spaces, I've been in the area. I can see that it's seen its glory days come and go but I can only imagine the history of this place. It would make for a cool documentary. Better yet hopefully, the building and businesses will get revitalized in the future. I always love coming and hanging out on Đại Lộ Sàigòn and embrace the culture and support the people and businesses.

Great place. Love going here along with the wonderful community. ONLY BAD THING IS THE PUBLIC RESTROOMS IN THE MALL, I wish it was more sanitary and decent for the people. It's usable, but definitely on the gross side. It's a bad experience especially after you've eaten there... I hope management can one day renovate and keep it clean for the people. We love coming here, but using the restroom is unpleasant.

I love the main photo on this Yelp page. I did see those dudes playing Chinese chess in the food court area, but I didn't want to disrespect them by snapping photos of them. It's like a gathering area for the community. There are so many stores here, but not a lot of them are interesting. There's a lot of Vietnamese signs here even though it's called Hong Kong. I get run-down vibes here. Besides some OG businesses, it feels like everyone is struggling to stay alive. There's a new street food eatery, but their prices are insane! There's plenty of parking here. The lot is huge.

We wish that a lot more people would come here, it's far more interesting, exciting, and economical than the Galleria or Memorial City. It's this massive beautiful Mall full of Vietnamese treats and goodies and stores, and everything you can imagine. One of the most amazing places in Houston for Vietnamese delights. We're massive fans of a lot of different things in here, and we come here on a very regular basis for food for drinks, for shopping and for anything you can imagine. It's basically an indoor shopping mall full of Vietnamese stuff. Pretty wonderful, and very typical of what is great about Houston. My older review said: Much better than the Hong Kong Sh*tty Male, which is basically every guy I've ever tried to date from HK (or Kowloon or the New Territories if I'm honest). The Hong Kong City Mall is one of the very best places to hang out in Houston. It's a lot more quiet than Dun Huang Plaza, and Chinatown on the other side of Belt 8 in general, and the Saigon Plaza too, but has a lot of cool stuff in it such as Coco where you can get amazing waffles. Also a few outlets for good sugar cane juice Vietnamese style. And plenty more.

This place is worth coming to for the grocery store alone (Hong Kong Food Market). See separate review. It appears to be Vietnamese so I'm not sure why it's called HK. It's a bit run down but that usually means great culinary treasures are in store, right? We already ate so we didn't get to try any of the take-out joints inside. There are also a bunch of shops, such as Hong Kong Wireless, where you can apparently get your ear and nose pierced (see photo).

Service was great. It was like an upgrade H‑E‑B fresh fish and shark too whatever you want.

Only giving one star because the public restroom has no soap. Both men and women restroom. They have a sign to wash hands with soap but don't offer any soap period. It is not sanitary you not have soap to wash hands with.

I grew up here as a kid. This place is where all the Asian family events was at. My mom used to own a clothing store inside so I was here almost every day. They used to have those old style arcades for kids in the edge of the food court I used to play at. Tons of people and kids riding their scooters/bikes down the main hall (yes they used to allow that) it was very lively once upon a time. But after the incident that happened here 5-10 years ago they were never the same. (I heard from rumors but its either a fight broke down from these 2 Asian men OR their was that fight and one of the men took out a gun etc etc) anyway after that people didn't feel safe coming back and all the lively ness that once lived here was POOF gone. Became a ghost town for many years. Businesses went bankrupt and moved away and new businesses came in. People still came but only to buy groceries and go straight home. Through time some people started to come back. New trendy businesses got great turn outs and the mall became okay again ish. But it will never be like it was before it's very saddening, but it is what it is. Anyway I'm writing this review for those who read this and never really walked around and look at what this place has to offer :3 bakeries, restaurants, clothing stores, barbor shops, furniture/jewelry, tech shops, you name it they have it. Come by with family stay a bit. It would be nice to walk in and see a spec of what this place used to be. Thank you for reading and have a good one :3

A lot of different food which was awesome. But the rest of the mall was kinda dead when I went but it's probably different on other days.. but I loved it

This used to be the place to go in Chinatown. But those days are long gone. Some stores and kiosks have closed and not been filled. Anchor tenants are still here. After stuffing myself with dim sum I hit the head at the toilets upstairs in the mall. But when I got there, the restrooms are all locked now ... oh crap. I mean, literally oh crap.

We spend a lot of time in the Hong Kong City mall area of Houston. Nice area to be in. A lot of interesting restaurants, grocery stores, and what not. I love areas where the street signs are in languages other then English. Nothing wrong with English. But just saying, other languages are awesome too. Always love being around areas that are so rich in food, language, and people of other cultures. Always have had a fascination with Asian cultures specifically. Hong Kong City mall and the area around it have a lot of awesomeness to offer. The mall has a massive Hong Kong Food Market. Biggest one we've been in at least. Shabu Zone is in the same plaza, love that restaurant. My barber at Angel hair salon, Michael, highly recommended. Always fun to make an evening of this part of town. Writing about it makes me want to go over there again.

I've been coming here for many years and we (Houston) are so fortunate to have such an enormously beautiful retail, grocery with meats and seafood diversity in This Lone Star state. (Austin, Dallas nor San Antonio can match this huge store/business.) No need to order online, just take a drive and enjoy a great Asian trip - enjoy the colors, smells, people and all the versatile products. Have fun!

This used to be a favorited go to Asian Mall decades ago but you can tell it has had better days. If you were lucky enough to get here when it first opened up with the nice waterfalls and the dyed Blue Waters, nothing looks trashy & stores bra lybrant with actual material to buy as far as being crowded to now like it is on its last leg. You will find the worst of the worst drivers here since there are Asians but you know how we try for anyways on the regular roads right? The same can be applied to the aisles with shopping carts, so try not to get grocery aisle rage while you are here. One thing I can say positive here as they stopped the ignorant old folk from smoking inside this food court especially under the no smoking sign.

Run down little strip mall wursts a bunch of different food vendors. You can find anything here from Cafes, restaurant, jewelry stores, supermarket, souvenirs, med spas. When it comes to the food and snacks if you crave it, it'll exist. So reasonably priced, walk around a buy a little from each booth

Came here on a Tuesday following 4th of July. I didn't go inside but I will comment on the parking situation here. People parking in front of the entrance is a thing, I see multiple cars with their driver inside just taking up space and causing more congestion. Some dude in front me had the audacity to leave his car in the middle of the lane... when I honked at him he just looked back and shrug his shoulder at me like I'm the problem...

Went here late and lot of the stores are closed except for the Supermarket and some vendors at the food court. The food court areas are great to get friends and family together as a meeting place and getting a bite to eat even this late evening.

Night market is a fun little treat in this area. They already have a ton of good foods here, but now you can try out Vietnamese street food as well. Parking is a pain in the butt though.

The new restroom inside the market is so clean and modern-- really nice upgrade! Really nice place to chill with family from out of town. Lots of new tourists and visitors from other states visiting the mall when we went. It is of course the largest Asian mall in Houston. The cardboards on the floor of the entrance are understandable, it was raining hard during that day and that was the only thing saving us from slipping on the tile floor. Safety first! xD

This place should really be renamed as Ho Chi Minh City... Every store and food stall is Vietnamese. Huge supermarket located right in the center. Small food court to the left and bakeries, hair salons, bridal store, electronics, jewelry, and crawfish restaurant to the right. Parking is scary since this place is always hopping and everyone wants a spot despite the huge parking lot. There's a pretty clean bathroom in the supermarket in the back by the produce underneath the picture of watermelons.

I've gone here with my family since I was little. We come to the grocery store because the vegetables are pretty cheap and has everything we need + Vietnamese, but I think that's the only thing keeping us. I remember walking into the restrooms there and them just being downright nasty; they're definitely better now but the grocery store has a bunch of flies for some reason; I've seen swarms fly up above. I don't know what's the problem there. It's definitely seen its better days. The fish market inside is pretty unorganized and most of the time you just have to hope they notice you if you don't call them over; they rarely if ever use the number system. A lot of the grocery carts are broken. There's no smoking outside but old men always smoke right outside the door on the benches, so it's not like it makes much of a difference. There are security but parking is pretty hard when it's busy; you'd be better off just parking all the way at the back and dealing with the walk. Sometimes the place gets subtle upgrades and the stores themselves aren't that bad. Everyone's Vietnamese give or take a few Chinese stores, but it'll be pretty obvious which is which. You should probably keep your kids close; my cousins were playing and an elderly lady came over and tried to offer them things from a bag like paper cranes or something. Nothing happened after we intervened since we left immediately, but still a bit of a fright. Not to say that it's a shady place, but it does get crowded on weekends and such. You never know. I'd say foot traffic is just like any other normal shopping mall. I think the only thing keeping people is if they don't speak English and only Vietnamese. I wouldn't say one because I've gone every weekend for years for grocery shopping and it's not as if every experience is bad, but still not the best. They do hold night markets often though, and I heard those are quite lively and fun.

Great for getting unique produce, snacks, drinks etc. haven't tried the meats, but seafood seems to be a popular Choice here. I was excited to pick up snow pea leaf and Chinese broccoli as well as some good noodles for stir frying.

This place was pretty trashy. No offense. There are plastic bags flying around outside, stuck on the sidewalks an inside the fountain. It smelled like something fierce on the East exit past some smelly food joints in the corner. Blech! We went to a boba shop inside and their floor were VERY dirty and rude service! Looked nothing like Hong Kong as I got back from a trip to actual HK and every mall clean and high tech there.. One lady was rude in her store saying "there aren't any English books for you there!!" And with that we took our leave.. She was watching her customers like a hawk and making snooty remarks at them. There's a huge grocery shop in there with cheap prices on food and housewares and would go back for that but otherwise MEH..!!

The supermarket inside the mall has a great selection and is always a fun place to visit. Everything else in the mall is hit or miss- some good food places, some shops that just look like the owner's storage. Shops rotate every once in a while though, so always something different when you go.

This was a fun trip with my bestie!! From 10 dollar bowls, to fresh fish, chopsticks, to hanging ducks! What else can u ask for!!

Welllll the first thing that comes to my mind when someone says "Hong Kong City Mall" is that it's the place where I got my ears pierced (super random I know). There was this one technology shop that we used to go to in the place that always fixed our phone screens for a really reasonable price but unfortunately I think that store closed. Other than that there was really nothing about the place that particular speaks out to me.

Nice place to stroll and shop. My boyfriend and I bought some food from some of the shops. We also got a passionfruit tea and avocado smoothie from the cafe right upon entering. Many shops and businesses with an array of services and eats. Pretty similar to what we have back at home. The selection in the supermarket seemed generous but lots of customers occupying the lines. Luckily, my Auntie with us was able to get us through at another line in the herbal section where she purchased some things. I can't imagine how long we would have had to wait...

How do you return bad produce? Came in and brought some produces and drove home. pomegranate is gross and moldy when cut open. I drove back within 2 hours and ask for exchange at the service check out. They told me "no exchange".

I enjoy visiting this place my daughters really love Asian culture so this is a great place to take it all in . This is definitely one of the destinations on our list when visiting Houston

Very dirty. Restrooms are terrible. Food court is old school and need to be updated. Restroom usually is out of toilet paper and the smell blows off outside. Parking is big but dirty. Security is totally terrible.

The name is so deceiving. There is nothing "Hong Kong" about this place, 99%+ of the shops are Vietnamese.

I have been going here since it opened and all I have been seeing is a decline, they mall use to be well kept very clean presentable location now it just looks like no one cares about it any more. I think the only time they really put an effort to show off the mall is during the new year but after that its plain Jane all year around

It's called the "Hong Kong City Mall," yet almost all stores are Vietnamese related. If you're looking for a good Vietnamese mall in the Houston area, this would be a good place, yet the name throws you off.

The only reason why This place doesn't even get a one star is because this place was a big part of my childhood. I remember always going here and watching the fish swim and playing at the little pond thing they had. It's not really there anymore sadly . The place is so run down and reeks of dumpster juice and urine . It's so sad . The owners just neglect this place . A place that use to be a gem to China town . Also the title is very misleading if you're not from around here . Like another reviewer stated it should be name something related to Vietnam instead , like maybe Lil Saigon . Also there was this one time when I came here there was a lady who was acting furious for no reason cursing at me and my mother . And harassing us . I don't really blame the establishment , but the neighborhood is just sketchy now . Also be careful because my mother tells me that people get robbed here quite often .
