10 Top International Airports for Food and Drink

"An art-filled airport with a strong roster of Cantonese and bar offerings that make waiting enjoyable, from comforting shredded chicken over rice, squid-topped soy sauce noodles, and roast goose at Duddell’s to time-tested wontons in hot soup at Ho Hung Kee on arrival. For cocktail lovers, a scenic bar on the Sky Bridge pours inventive drinks like the Fallen (Michter’s bourbon, treacle, coconut, overripe banana, and mole bitters), creating a satisfying mix of classic local flavors and modern drinking culture." - Alia Akkam

Study Ranks the World's Best Airports

"Hong Kong is one of the world's best cities for food, so it should come as no surprise that the airport leads the way when it comes to airport dining. A wide array of premium lounges (including this crazy new one), amenities like nap rooms and an IMAX theater, and its transit connections to the city (24 minutes, thankyouverymuch) make it attractive to passengers."

Google
Great airport, with a large selections of foods and shops. Service is quick and easy to access. Definitely wheel chair friendly, especially easy access point. Very kid friendly with culture show every now and then. Also we love the tech playgrounds. Highly recommended. Also if you access to the lounges, highly recommended to check it out. Some of the best in Asia.

Google
Well, it has many seats available at the gates which is good when you have a long layover and not yet know the boarding gate. There are electrical outlet everywhere for you to charge which is so convenient. But if you have a short layover and you arrive at the gate like gate 13, you may miss a connecting flight if you don't walk fast enough as it's very far away.

Google
Hong Kong Airport is truly a well-thought-out airport. The facilities are superb — I used the transit, arrival, and departure services, and each experience was seamless. The Wi-Fi is fast, and there are plenty of workstations and play areas. The duty-free shops, souvenir stores, and even observation decks add to the experience. The food section was also incredible. Overall, it’s the best airport I’ve ever been to.

Google
First of all, this airport offers reliable internet access even for foreigners, making it easy to stay connected while you travel. The facilities are modern, clean, and well-maintained, creating a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere for all travelers. The terminal is filled with a wide selection of exclusive and high-end shops, perfect for browsing or picking up a last-minute gift or travel essential. Although the food court isn’t the largest, it offers solid options. If you’re patient, McDonald’s is a popular choice and worth the wait. For those who prefer something quicker, there are several noodle stalls that serve warm, satisfying meals. A great feature of this airport is the discount and coupon system available after purchases. It works almost like cash and can be used in many, though not all, shops, giving you added value during your visit. The airport staff are polite, helpful, and generally go out of their way to assist, even if their English isn’t always fluent. Overall, this airport offers a calm and comfortable environment, ideal for relaxing between flights. With its clean surroundings, quality shopping, and friendly service, it leaves a genuinely positive impression and sets the tone for a pleasant journey.

Google
It’s a massive airport with hundreds of gates and a metro connectivity within airport to ensure you board flights in time. Limited vegan/vegetarian options available. Comfortable lounges and cute seating area.

Google
Hong Kong International Airport certainly leaves an impression with its sheer scale and the constant presence of aircraft. Situated on Lantau Island, it's a fair distance from the central urban areas, yet the connection is surprisingly well-managed. The Airport Express train offers a swift and comfortable link to the city. However, for those mindful of their budget, the extensive bus network to Tung Chung presents a dependable and more economical alternative. From Tung Chung, the MTR system readily connects you to the rest of Hong Kong. It's also practical to note that bus services directly to the Tung Chung MTR station are readily available, even if one doesn't opt for the Airport Express. Navigating the airport, despite its considerable size, proves to be a relatively straightforward affair. The signage is clear and well-placed, and the processes for security, immigration, and baggage retrieval generally proceed without undue complication. Locating one's gate or a connecting flight doesn't feel like an insurmountable challenge, a definite advantage for any traveler, particularly those with limited time or unfamiliar with the language. In summary, while its location outside the city center might initially appear as a disadvantage, Hong Kong International Airport effectively mitigates this with a range of efficient transportation options. Combined with its significant size and commendable ease of wayfinding, HKG generally offers a positive and efficient experience for international travelers. It's a well-organized airport that capably handles a substantial volume of air traffic while maintaining a degree of user-friendliness.

Google
Hong kong Massive international airport, very modernized and clean. We walked so much from one end of the airport to our gates, yet along the way there plenty of toilets, water filter and shops along the way to recharge our energy. The immigration process is very fast as well as the bags transferring services.

Google
Nicely organized with all high end shops globally. Though eatery has some limitation in terms of options for restaurant BUt Starbucks & McDonald's are there for Americans. Quiet long lounge and walk a lot all along to reach and enjoy shopping. Speaking English works almost every shops but accent has little issues. Overall clean, spacious and impressive laid out for globally passengers to find their departure plane.. Hongkong is definitely more friendly than all other Chinese airports in terms of communication.

Yelp
Hong Kong The first time I was here was 26 years ago. The airport was almost a year old. At that time I was coming from a country with minimal infrastructure on their airport, so I was amazed how beautiful and organized this airport is. Impressive!!! After that I wasn't a stranger to this airport anymore. They keep on doing more improvements and additions. They have a sky lounge for people who smokes. Plenty of shopping places to choose from as well as eating places. Immigration and customs are fast and efficient. All kinds of transportation are available. Most people speaks English too so no worries when you get lost inside. And directions are very clear and easy to follow and informative. Enjoy flying from this airport ...

Yelp
The only airport in Hong Kong... It's a fascinating airport as it seems like it tries it's best to give you a relaxing vibe as nothing is more stressful than going though the various points to get to your gate. Hong Kong International Airport is very spacious and clean as soon as we walked in to check into our flight home there's no direct flight so we needed to make a stopover beforehand and the staff at Hong Kong Airlines which was our first segment handled making sure our luggage reaches our destination. Once we were all set and entered through the security check point which was quick and efficient, the airport was nice and spacious with lots of eateries and shops which I immediately wanted to see as I still had quite a bit of HK dollars and hoped that I'm able to find some last minute items which I thought would be the perfect place as it's all in one area. Lots of high end shops are found here as well and I really enjoyed browsing around the shopping area but getting to the gates are quite different as it seems like it's all place down below the shopping area. Though grab your snacks as once you reach your gate area there isn't much place to get some real food though there are some shops sadly in my area there was just one simple cafe though finding Shark's Fin and Peking duck flavored Pretz is something that's found here and that's definitely a conversation piece that I wished that I've gotten but didn't have room which means I just have to come back for more time at this fabulous city. Thank you!

Yelp
Arriving at Hong Kong International Airport, we're happy to see signs subtitled with English! We filled out an Immigration form easily at counters that were at a good writing height. Pens were attached with ball chains. Carts for luggage we're free and plentiful! Signs for Baggage Claim we're clear and informative. Our friends picked us up in their personal vans which were parked in a nearby lot! Note that the driver's side of the vehicles are opposite from that of the USA!

Yelp
My last review of this airport was over ten years ago! I still think it's one of the world's best! Easy to get to. Easy to navigate. Lots of open, well lighted spaces! I'm a fan

Yelp
My experience here is different from the others who said it was seamless. It wasn't. We arrived at 6.45 am and there was nobody to ask for directions. We had learned from the SFO United Airlines agent that we needed to head to international connections, security and then upstairs to departures. And to be careful not to exit the terminal. We followed the 'transfers' signage and then it stopped making sense. There were a variety of gates to head to and we didn't know which one. No one at the United transfer desk and the China Airlines agent wasn't interested in helping. I finally walked up to a lady holding a sign for another airline and she was nice enough to look up our gate. She told us where to go and we went down one level to ride the train to the next stop. Found the Malaysian Airlines transfer desk and realized we didn't have time to relax in their lounge area. Which was a bummer. The security line was long. It was easy to clear immigration but then we had to wait in the long security line. Made it with 10 minutes to board. Thank goodness. Nerve wracking. And the bussing to the plane was not fun. They pack you in like sardines. And then put more people on. So I'm glad we're not transiting in Hong Kong again.

Yelp
This is one of the better airports I've been when it comes to cleanliness. I was looking forward to seeing the sky garden only to find that it's a smokers paradise. Apparently this is the only place smokers can go and smoke in the airport so it usually is packed with smokers. I personally wasn't able to visit the garden despite having very long layovers at HKIA. I made several attempts to visit but I couldn't stand the smoking and it was never empty. The airport itself was clean and had plenty of seating even some loungers if you can catch one empty. There were also lots of restaurant options as well. But the lines to get through security and immigration are some the worst slow moving lines I've seen anywhere. I flew Cathay Pacific airlines which was not the greatest experience and their home base airport is HKIA so I had long layovers in this airport to and from my destination. Other than cleanliness and seating I couldn't saying anything else positive or outstanding about this airport.

Alhambra A.

Yelp
Very few chairs in the airline check-in hall. Very few trash cans. All the toilet rooms were full in the two men's room I visited in the gate level. The USB charging port at Gate 29 did not work. And the airport's web site does not have any comment form for people to leave complaints -- the airport doesn't want to hear

Yelp
Hong Kong International Airport is easily one of the better airports I've been to! Everything is designed to make your journey very smooth and pleasant. The cleanliness of the facilities is fantastic - they even offer free showers, which is a lifesaver if you have a layover or want to freshen up before heading through customs. I found that the signage throughout the airport was super clear and incredibly foreigner friendly. There were SO many dining and shopping options, ranging from Hong Kong cuisine to other international options. The variety of shops makes it super enjoyable to walk around and pass time between flights. Getting to and from the airport was also very seamless, thanks to the Airport Express subway. If I had to get stuck at an airport, I would choose to be stuck at the HK airport every time!

Yelp
Fantastic airport. Beats any airport in the USA by miles. Even when crowded can get to the Chase lounge in about 10 min. Knocked off one star because even with hundreds of gates apparently it's not enough. Lots of gates are ground level and will bus you to the plane parked on the runway. Ridiculous. Noticed these are the low cost carriers like Greater Bay Airlines and HK Express. Still is rather deal with this nonsense occasionally than put up with crap USA airports where you need to wait 40 min to clear TSA
google avatar

Nico Samneil S.

Yelp
Clean, spacious and organized airport. Should be on the top 10 best airports. Well posted signages in english as well. There is a train going to 4 convenient tourist spot destinations
google avatar

Yelp
This airport is amazing. If I'm ever stuck at an airport, I'd want it to be this one. They've got plenty of duty free shops with great products for last minute souvenirs, brand name shops (too luxurious for me, but super cool to see an Alexander McQueen store), and a food court to satisfy one last craving of HK food. I didn't give it 5 stars because as a first time traveler catching a flight, the enormity of the airport can be overwhelming and non-intuitive. However, there were plenty of friendly airport staff to help guide the way.

Yelp
I always opt for HKG Airport whenever I'm visiting HK or China because HK almost feels like a second home to me. The last time I was here was before covid and my very first time here left a good impression on me. Sadly, I can't say the same for this time. After over two days of not touching ground (I was on the world's longest flight - quite literally), as soon as I landed I received the delightful notification of my baggage being delayed for 3 hours at HKG (it's ironic because the airline tagged it "Star Alliance Priority") so I had to push back my entire day's schedule of meals, transportation, accommodations, and plans to wait for my bags to arrive. I understand this is mainly the airline's fault and not the airport's. Since I can't pass through customs into the arrival hall without my bags, I was left with no choice but to eat whatever is available within the gates. I wish there were better dining options... there were only 2 and one was cash (HKD) only so I had to settle for an overpriced and disappointing meal this time. After eating, I struggled to find where I needed to go and what arrival forms I needed to fill out and the HKG staff were being borderline hostile this time around (I know they usually catch an attitude with the mainland Chinese people but never towards English-speaking foreigners so it caught me off guard at first but being the true born city girl that I am, I reciprocated that energy right back and got the respect and more importantly, answers I was looking for. HK isn't very different from NYC - we city people are just more direct/blunt - I'm more of an easygoing person but I happen to have an on-and-off switch which comes in really handy when dealing with different situations. I will still continue to fly to HKG but hopefully my future experiences will be better.

Yelp
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) is nothing but efficient, classy, clean, bright and airy. Our roundtrip from LAX to MNL via Cathay Pacific allowed us to layover in Hong Kong on two separate days and one night. On our first layover, which happened to be the first day of Chinese New Lunar Year, we found out HKG had a secure, short-term baggage storage facility on Level 5 of Terminal 1. We were so thrilled to be able to drop off our bags, exchange our money, and explore the city for 6 hours. The rates were very reasonable at $12 HKD per hour ($1.50 USD/hr) or $140 HKD daily (~$18 USD/hr). For the lunar new year, the airport was decorated so beautifully! It was a bummer we could not be there for the lion dance. Instead, we followed the signs to the train to take us to Central Hong Kong to head to the Peak. It was a beautiful day and Hong Kong did not disappoint! Two and half weeks later on our return trip to the US, our 1-night layover in Hong Kong was epic! Upon our arrival to HKG, we easily walked out with luggage in tow to the taxi stand to stay at the nearby (~5 min drive) Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott. We then spent the night in Kowloon to watch the Symphony of Lights, walk the Avenue of Stars, and more! Security gate was next level. Just swipe your passport, look in the camera so your face can be scanned, and voila. You're in! LOVED the food court. I especially liked the dim sum noodle set at Duddell's! As well as the shops available. Check out the 2-story Louis Vuitton! The waiting areas were also thoughtfully designed with plenty of USB ports and outlets to charge all of personal devices. Some seats at the gates were lounge chairs! Safe travels!

Yelp
HKG is so clean and well organized, and there's clear sign setup everywhere for immigrations, transfers, and visitors etc. The airport is located right next to the water and spectacular departure and landing views.

Yelp
It's hard to believe this airport is 25 years old now. It's still one of the world's newest major airports and it's a modern marvel. It's a very airy, spacious, clean, and sleek airport with zillions of excellent Asian and international eateries also. It's located on Chek Lap Kok island and relatively far away from central Hong Kong and maybe a 45 minute taxi or MTR (mass transit railway) ride away. I still miss the old single runway Kai Tak airport though that was located right in a residential area of Kowloon peninsula and close to everything, which was kinda it's problem as it was too small for this metropolis. Sorry to digress, but Kai Tak memorably also had one of the most dramatic landings of any airport in the world - after flying 14 hours or so, a startling last minute 47 degree right hand turn just 600 feet off the ground. I always got a kick out of noticing the frightened faces of those on their inaugural flight into Kai Tak. Landing at the new airport is much more routine, and so be it.
google avatar

Yelp
Very modern airport. Clean bathrooms and areas. The immigration customs line went by very quickly. I arrived at 6:30am n got through customs in less than 30min. Usually fly hkg to visit Asia. It got some upgrades since I left 8 years ago. Highly recommend. They have really good cafes and 7-11 for cheap food.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Super easy to transit here and pass thru custom. Baggage claim was fast. Overall a good experience. We arrived in the midnight and had to find our own transit to town. Taxi was a bit pricy but that was pretty much the only option left.
google avatar

Yelp
We elected HKG as our gateway to China. Excellent connection in all aspects for our three week China tour HKG sets the standard for new or updated airports in the US HKG is modern to futuristic; lots of security, but never intrusive While not fans of airport food courts, we do recommend HKG food courts HKG provided connection to Shanghai; however, we later spent time in HKG prior to west coast departure
google avatar

Yelp
Took a direct flight with Cathay Pacific from Toronto, and landed in the Hong Kong International Airport last week. As of now, Hong Kong requires travellers to do an on-site PCR testing (mouth swab) upon arrival. There are plenty airport staff guiding you to get tested; you will receive your covid-19 results in about 2 hours via email. The airport is very spacious, and has plenty of fast food, restaurants and shops. It is also connected to Regal Airport Hotel Hong Kong via indoor walkway, where we stayed for one night, and headed out for Japan the next. We took advantage of the baggage storage service at the airport, for $140 per luggage per day. You pay when you come back to retrieve luggage. You can easily travel to the city via MTR train; the ticket is $115 HKD to get from the Airport station to Hong Kong station (where you can transfer to other MTR lines, and other transportations). You will get a QR code on your ticket, and you scan it to exit the station, so don't lose it!
google avatar

Yelp
It is worst transfer service I experienced in 30 years international traveling. It waiting line is 150 meters long. I complain to the staff and the supervisor asking me to change airport if I do not like them. I just answer, "why don't you change your job!"
google avatar

Jasmine A.

Yelp
My mom and I visited Hong Kong International Airport for the first time on Thursday, 03/23/23 (HK time). This airport is probably one of the best we have ever seen; VERY clean, huge, and there's so much to do inside. There's even a 7 Eleven inside which is pretty much better than the ones in California. A bunch of dining areas as well - if you stop by here don't forget to take some pictures.
google avatar

Ryong C.

Yelp
There is my transfer airport first choice, because the Great stuff and service makes me happy. keeping the good work, see you next time.

Yelp
Everytime I leave LA I am blown away by just how horrible our international airport is in comparison to every other city, state, and country. This is yet another massive airport with organization, transport, lounges, food options and baggage lockers that blow away most other countries (with the exception of the new giant contenders like Dubai, Singapore, and Doha.)
google avatar

Jana C.

Yelp
The food in that upstairs rotunda area is always legit. After being completely spoilt in Changi, Chek Lap seems so worn and so behind the times. And don't even get me started about JFK IN NYC. Yuck! I still enjoy meandering about and nipping in and out of shopping. Oh HK-- will China ever leave you alone?
google avatar

Andrew W.

Yelp
One of the busiest hub in the region for Air travellers, HKG offers a modern venue for your travel experience, completed in time for the 1997 return of Hong Kong to China, this was one of the last public infrastructure projects by the British Colonial Govt. Built on a man made island for the sole purpose of the airport, it has moved away from the densely populated city of Kowloon, in fact if you are interested you can still visit the site of the original Kai Tak Airport which has become a Cruise Ship Terminal. At HKG one of the most impressive character is the wide selection of restaurants, these are name brand restaurants that are common names in Hong Kong, so if you are on transit and do not have time to venture out of the airport this will give you plenty of choices to try out some authentic Hong Kong Cuisine. At time of this review, due to the current situation in HK, the airport is experiencing lower then usual traffic, as you can see from my photos, the Baggage Claim area is almost deserted and its at the peak travel hours too! Hong Kong as my second home will still be one of the most traveled destination as it has an energy that very few other cities can compare!

Yelp
I remember coming here back in 2003 and 2011 when I visited my hometown in the summer. The airport was clean and does allow visitors to sleep in the mezzanine while waiting for the buses or their flights. When I woke up around 5 am back in 2011, I saw some scaffolders replacing the ads. After getting diarrhea from an airplane meal, the janitor ranted about my shit.
google avatar

Yelp
I was confused about how somebody could rate an airport on Yelp, but after visiting HKG, I now understand -- from the second I stepped off of my arriving flight, everything here was seamless. I connected in HKG on a flight heading from NYC to Bangkok. On my flight into HKG, I was a bit confused about if I would need to go through security again, if I needed to go through customs due to a terminal change, etc., and the flight attendants could not give me definite answers. When I stepped off of the plane, there was a team of HKG Airport agents, speaking an impressive variety of languages, stationed right at our arrival gate to answer questions just like mine. These friendly agents directed passengers to baggage claim, a different terminal, security lanes, etc., based on their personal situation. I have never seen anything like this, and as a passenger, my stress level instantly dropped after meeting these wonderful people. I had an overnight layover here and have never had so much fun in an airport. HKG is spotless, calm, open, and somehow peacefully quiet. The food court had so many options, whether looking for Chinese food, Asian food, or western food. Everything I tasted was impressively good. There are also plenty of shops for just about everything you could possibly want. I visited around the winter holidays and the entire airport was festively decorated. All signs, gates, etc., were well marked and translated into English. Although HKG was just a stop on the way to my real destination, being in the airport felt like a vacation in and of itself!
google avatar

Gillian A.

Yelp
Here for a 3-hour layover. The pathways to the gates might seem a bit convoluted but the many signs, which are all translated in English, essentially handhold you all the way to your gate lol just don't forget your basic knowledge of arrows. Pretty much it's hard to get lost so wander to you heart's content while you're here. Not much unique decor but the center of the airport has a mall-like vibe with the many stores and food courts. Free public Wi-Fi that seems pretty fast. There are charging stations (outlet and USB) available albeit not many.

Yelp
I truly like China's Hong Kong airport (HKG). It is immense here, laid out by best in class airport planners and is the epitome of an airport metropolis: loaded with services that hum (you can feel it), organized and secure (physical and jnfrastructure) and possibly has the best food options, shopping and tech options for any traveller. As a traveler, there are signs, clear and informative. Staff are explicit with their communications and are attentive. And that is everywhere airport-wide no matter what airline you patronize, well except United, LMAO. HKG is efficiency focused, user friendly, technology friendly, traveler friendly and food friendly. It is so expansive here that you can find seating and 'quiet' spaces with power ports everyyyywhere! The airport is well accustomed to processing throngs traversing its arteries that going through HKG makes one feel that the future airport has arrived. Were I to think of a 5 star airport, HKG is up there with Denmark's CPH, Japan's HND and NRT Singapore's garden at SIN and S. Korea's ICN airports. It's one of the greatest grandest airports in the world and love coming through here. Visits: a handful Tip: All prices are in HKG $ so don't freak out, LOL. Arrive early and avail yourself of the shopping options and airport lounges (Amex Centurion or your fave airline lounges). Perfect place to do a fast walk for 45 min before your 12 hour flight (sittin' on your a$$) home.
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
This multilevel airport put the New York airports to shame. It's like a mall where you happen to catch fights in and out. every floor has food and gift shops, cafes like Starbuck luxury goods, resturants, hotels. the floors are long and they have moving walkways were you can easily pass several restrooms. I came here only because it was stopover but it's easy to kill time just walking, free WiFi and English signs on everything. Charging stations that work. My only gripe is on departures they give you the security check 'are you smuggling drugs' interview.
google avatar

Wynne L.

Yelp
I don't know how to express in words how much I love the HK airport. It's huge and efficient. There's everything you could possibly need from an airport there. It's also bright and airy and not stifling at all. Plus, there's wifi that actually works. You can get there by car, taxi, bus, or train. Public transportation options are convenient and can take you right into the city. There's also a tourism stand before you exit arrivals to get information on things to see, do and eat. Let's talk about the food options. There's a massive food court with so many options that I had to circle back when making a decision on what to eat. The famed Lady M has an outlet here and it was so good. I've never had such good crepe cake before. There's water stations located throughout for hot water but beware that there are usually lines so leave plenty of time before you have to board your plane. Then there's the shopping options. Everything from convenience stores for your snack, magazine and travel needs to designer brands. It's a shopping mecca within an airport. If you have a HK ID card it's so quick to go through the security gates. Slide your card through, scan your fingerprint and the gate opens. There's no need to wait in long lines. I recently had to do a super long layover at the airport and found that I was not bored for the many hours I spent there.

Yelp
Hong Kong international airport is one of the best airports in the world. Flights typically are rarely delayed and delays usually fairly minimal (less than 30 minutes). Transportation to and from the city is also convenient. The airport express shuttle will get you into the central area in 30 minutes. Taxi cabs are also plentiful and I never had to wait more than 20 minutes for a taxi. Getting through customs and security is really efficient given the high volume of flights. The peak times are the early am flights that business travellers take. I would suggest getting to the airport earlier for these flights. Non peak times I find I can comfortably make my flight if so arrive to the airport an hour before my flight. The airport also has some really good eating options as well. My favourites are Old Town white coffee, Crystal Jade, Jade Garden, Saboten, lady M, and tasty congee and noodle.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best Airports that I have been to. It is really an honor to come thru this airport. Whenever I go to China, I prefer to stop by this airport because it is close by Shenzhen. The Ferry transfer is right there and for 220 hkd for an hour of travel, which is not bad. If you would like to stop by Hong Kong to do shopping, exploring, and for food then it is also reachable thru the fast metro which is for 100 hkd. This stop is very convenient for anywhere. I'd definitely suggest this stop if you are exploring Asia

Arrivals are swift and efficient, luggage carousel was loaded quickly, we boarded the Airport Express (MRT) and arrived to good old Kowloon in record time. Took the MRT to Kowloon Station, a taxi to our hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, had dinner at a Korean restaurant on Kimberley Road. In less than 1 hour after landing.

Yelp
It's (HK) one of my favorite airports in Asia. It ranks right up there next to South Korea's Incheon airport. I'd give the slight edge to Incheon though. Compared to most of the airports stateside, I actually look forward to stopping by here during my business trips to mainland China. I don't dread it. Clean facilities, professional and efficient staff and plenty of places to shop and eat. Love their free internet stations with name brand PC's and iMacs scattered throughout the airport.

Yelp
Pros: Free wi-fi that's easy to use, hot water machine (for ramen and tea, duh), lots of food courts/restaurants and very clean. Also, very pretty views outside. You get to see mountains in the background while you're anxiously awaiting to board your flight. And everyone that spoke to me were really nice, or as nice as an airport employee can be. You could do a lot worst than this airport. Cons: It was confusing as hell to figure out where to go when transferring. I was told to follow the yellow sign. I turn around and there were several yellow signs that said "transfer" so I didn't know which one to go to. Do they all lead to the same place? Will one of them all of a sudden take me back out and I'll need to be re-screened again? What if I don't make my flight that leaves in an hour? I followed random people from my plane until I got upstairs.

Yelp
One of the best airports I've been to, but also has a lot of downsides. Very well organized with lots to do and eat. (except when I had a layover here at 5am, and there was nothing opened. I'm starving.) This place is huge but a lot of signs so you won't get lost. The terminals are spacious but please tell me why - there are NO outlets ANYWHERE except on SOME walls in between terminals. Where you have to stand. And there's like, a thousand people crowded around them charging. So, if I'm waiting for my flight and want to charge, I'd have to be very uncomfortable, standing and guarding my luggage in a small crowd OR battery-less. Also there are clean water stations where many people are lining up to hydrate - they are in random places so hopefully your terminal is near one. I find that even though this airport is extremely busy, it is big enough that it doesn't feel hectic - I had to wait here once for a long time and I was chilling in random terminals, reading my book while waiting to walk to my own terminal across the airport. There are also many restaurants and places to get food, drinks everywhere so you can't really starve if you have money on you ..even though water costs you an obscene amount of HKD. I had dim sum once at one of the spots and I found that they were super organized with getting people to put their carts on the side with assigned numbers and getting everyone sat down even though it was busy af. The staff, customs and everyone that works here is generally very nice as well. I'm not a fan of airports but this one is definitely one of the better ones to fly to and from.

Yelp
I really liked his airport. It is far cleaner then most international airports, and runs quite efficiently. I enjoyed the free Wifi, and the multiple routes of public transportation. There were so many places to eat, and shop as long as it wasn't too late. My friend said some shops are not 24/7. I hope to fly through here again.

Yelp
This airport has a LOT of gates, but they so seem to be very efficient at getting people in and out. I have made many connections through here in the past few years and have been able to make some pretty close ones (less than 90 minutes), even when I was sitting in the back of the inbound trans-Pacific plane. That was a pleasant surprise, especially since I had to clear security again as part of the transfer process. For stopping in HK, the immigration lines move at about an average pace, but the train station and "Airport Express" train to downtown HK is a pinnacle of convenience. It is clean, fast, and relatively inexpensive. You can purchase a round-trip airport-to-and-from-town ticket at a desk just outside of the customs area. There is plenty of duty-free shopping if that is your thing, and several currency exchange places. If you fly Cathay Pacific and have the appropriate status and/or ticket type, there are FOUR lounges in the international terminal -- so, one is pretty close to just about any gate except, I think, the 500-series.

Yelp
All I can say is that this airport is massive. In fact it is the first foreign airport that I have ever visited, so you can imagine my eyes when I first arrived here. I wouldn't necessarily say that it is confusing, but it can certainly be quite overwhelming, especially the first time you arrive here. One thing I've noticed is that when you are transitting through here you still need to go through immigration, which is somewhat annoying. They also have quite a few facilities here, and it is pretty efficient as well. I only had an hour layover for a flight to Bangkok, yet all my luggage arrived in one piece.

Yelp
This is one of the best and largest airports that I've been to. Period! There are just two terminals, but each one has plenty of shops and restaurants. So many restaurants that it would take at least a year to eat at all of them. Seriously! I love this airport. More than the San Francisco International Airport, which is the one that I usually fly out of to destinations like Asia and Europe. Also, there are plenty of services like several banks and charging stations. There are even a few computers available to use. It is a five star airport.

Yelp
Hong Kong International Airport is one of the best. It is huge and everything is located in one building. For this reason alone, I would have to say that it is the best. I can't stand it when you have a connecting flight or you're tired from getting off of a 12 hour flight, and you have to catch a shuttle or tram to get to the terminal in another building. The way they designed this airport is awesome. The architecture is stellar and the place is clean. They have many food choices and offer free wifi. They also have a lot of stores in this airport. It contains many high end retailers as with most asian airports. Unlike many airports, going through security checks and immigration is fast. The lines might look long, but we always got through within 10 minutes. What they do is that they have a lot of rope and stanchions. When the line gets long, they'll rearrange the formation of the ropes, usher people in the different lines and open up more sections. When you're at your gate waiting to deport, there are many charging stations. They also have fountains that you can fill your water bottle with cold or hot water.

Yelp
I'm not sure what the big buzz about this place is about. The dining options are much more limited than the internet leads on. It was also extremely hot. Those huge sweeping ceilings were either difficult to cool or they didn't even bother. Cleaning staff also have no problem kicking you off a bench you were sleeping on because they have to go row by row in order. Lots of shopping, premium pricing, and rude Chinese tourists who will push past you and your baby in a stroller to get on the elevator you pushed a button for.

Yelp
HKG is still my favorite airport to go to and I would definitely be fine with a long layover here, but it's got a couple of blemishes due to its "age". I don't mind coming to the airport super early, even though I really don't have to. Check-in, immigration, and security are generally without hassle or trouble. That gives me more time to go to shops and restaurants before or after security. I can load up on HK products (like candy) before my flight home. There are so many shops to wander into that you'll never find yourself bored. Actually, I like to just walk around the gates, seeing all the different airlines that don't go to the States, and the destinations that don't have direct flights from here. The food here is actually appealing and not a ripoff, unlike most places in the States. I generally pick from the food court, but there are a wide range of restaurants available. The pre-security spots are just as good as the ones after. Transportation to the city are various and generally convenient. The facilities at the airport are spotless and the areas are bright. Wifi is pretty decent here. The only technology age "blemish" I can spot here is that there aren't a whole lot of charging stations and the ones that exist weren't really near the seats.

Yelp
I was here on Jan13th for a connection flight to Hanoi and the airport here was pretty good. Nice, clean and lot of stores are there. I had to kill 4hrs layover and it was not a problem for me. I went to buy food at 7 Eleven and McD inside the airport and the lineup at McD was quite long which I had to wait. (FYI McD is located after passing arrival and then you have to go upstairs.)And if you need some instant noodles there are stores and vending machine to buy them. Washrooms were clean too. I felt tempted to buy Fengrisu (pineapple pie) at HK airport and they were too expensive I find. You can find lots of goodies here whether it's food, makeups and etc. Also *NOTE* you can charge your phones with USB cable (it's underneath the benches) while waiting for your flight. Public phones are available.

Yelp
So you get to the point where airports start to blend together, but a few key aspects make airports not much of a pain to deal with. HK International falls into that category, while big, it is quite easy to get around. So to touch on the size, you can waste layovers here just wandering around shopping, eating, or doing my favorite past time, watching aircraft take off and land. The airport is very clean, offers plenty of regular seating (Wonderful lounges), good food, and a good amount of chargers. As with many airports internationally (And some domestic), finding a ride into the city is easy, but honestly just jump on the air train, as traffic can be a pain! The airport employees are very helpful if you need assistance, but remember the airport is designed to really guide you to the exit, so getting lost may be difficult in my honest opinion. Also a side note for late night/early morning arrivals, you are pretty much stuck with expensive taxis or the multitude of night buses (Easier and cheaper), so keep that in my as the last train leaves around 11ish I believe. So short and sweet, another spectacular Asia airport, no issues here with me. I would not mind a layover here in the future.

Yelp
I was originally from HKG - so, call me biased, but I can't think of too many airports at this time that's as great as Chek Lap Kok. Airy, spacious, functional... in other words, everything that any traveller would want in an airport in the 21st century. The security line wait is about 60 seconds on average during busy times. If you happen to be in the top 0.5% who have money to burn, the name-brand retailers air-side is just out-of-this-world unmatched. Oh there's shopping opps for the other 99.5% as well. I mean, to have Cafe de Coral present (at the SAME price, as far as I can tell) ALONE makes this the AP for everyman, too. Just know that the lower-number gates are the ones close by, while the higher numbers coax you toward the train. The immigration process, coming and going, particularly for HK ID-card-carriers, zips faster than a zephyr (see my review/comparison on LAX). There's a convenient train to and from the airport covering a few main interest points in HKG for 12 USD, which is actually pricey compared to taking the readily-available buses, all air-conditioned, able to take you to many different areas for less than 1/3 the cost of the train (chances are that train won't get you EXACTLY where you need to go, but the bus might). Do your homework and/or download the KMB app before you get there. Get the Octopus card, and you'll be zooming around town like a native. You're welcome! Feel free to PM me in Yelp for additional tips. :-)

Yelp
Great airport! Kinda pain in the ass to get to tho, so allow yourself some time the day you're leaving. For example, we were coming from hong kong island & google maps said it would take an hour & a half to get over there! This is coming from Tai Koo Shing on the island line to the airport express. Good thing we knew, because if you look at hong kong on a map, the distance between hong kong island & Chek Lap Kok (where the airport is), the distance is pretty large! I loved how EASY it was to go through immigration. I hate to be the bearer of sad news, but you won't get the highly desired exit stamp in the passport once you leave :(. I was blown away how immigration was automated, I've never seen that. One of my complaints was the pocket wifi. Be sure to book online *ahead* of time, because most of them were sold out! Lots of shops to get the last minute shopping - so allow yourself some time!

Yelp
After a long flight from SFO I was greeted by a very chaotic yet fully equipped airport. It's confusing to make a connection here and the airport staff aren't great with English so unless you get lucky you might be on your own. Basically when getting off the plane to make your connection you'll most likely have to go through a mini security again. This is where all your liquids will get checked again. So wait until you can locate your gate before splurging on that fancy bottle of water. Once through that, depending on your gate you might have to take a little train ride to your gate. Mine was interesting because it was Christmas and many people were decked out. I was surprised the holiday was so popular and festive! There are tons of places to eat, drink, or shop. I can't comment on how fair the prices are because I hung at a lounge but I can say there were a variety of places to get a meal. Give yourself enough time to get to your gate as this is a large airport and drop me a line if you get a really tasty meal! Safe travels!
