Boston’s Best Scorpion Bowls and Other Giant Cocktails to Share - Eater Boston

"The Hong Kong is an experience. Open in Harvard Square since 1954 and at Faneuil Hall since 1988, the two family-run venues are a rite of passage for area college students and anyone else who likes karaoke, dancing, ultra-cheap Chinese-American appetizers, and — most importantly — scorpion bowls. (The Hong Kong even calls itself “home of the bowl.”) Curious about the ingredients? It’s “a secret family recipe of alcohol and juices.” Comes in a personal size, too." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant at Harvard Square is a true gem! From the moment you step inside, you're enveloped in the lively ambiance that perfectly complements the exceptional cuisine. The menu offers an incredible array of authentic dishes, each prepared with the finest ingredients and bursting with flavor. The General Tso's Chicken and Crispy Duck are personal favorites—simply divine! The service is top-notch, with attentive staff who ensure your dining experience is flawless from start to finish. Whether you're here for a quick bite or a full dinner, Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant never disappoints. A must-visit for anyone in the area!

Don't be discouraged by random reviews you read, since I've been there 100+ times :) Hong Kong has been a Harvard Square go-to for the last 7 years (4 years at Harvard College and 3 so far at med school). The lunch and dinner combos are probably the best price-to-quality option you will find in Boston, with generous portions of vegetables and meat, and in my experience, consistently fresher ingredients relative to other cheaper Chinese restaurants. Servers are friendly and funny too. If you are a regular they treat you like family. Not sure what the bar is like; I only go there for food.

Good old school American chinese food. May be good to upgrade the tastes to the newer gen. Service is very friendly, quality of food is good and prices very reasonable. Especially good for young people to fill their stomach

The Yuxiang Eggplant was excessively sweet, which made it quite unpleasant to eat. When I brought this up to the server, they said,”We can’t do anything about it, our restaurant has been open for 70 years.” We didn’t order the dishes the server originally recommended, and afterward they commented,”that’s what you get for not ordering what I suggested.” I have reasonable doubt that the restaurant deliberately made the dish taste bad because we didn’t follow their recommendation. Very disappointing experience——WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

The service was nice, and the staff were friendly. The atmosphere had low lighting which I wish was brighter. On the whole, the food was good for a fast food Chinese style restaurant. I enjoyed their eggplant in spicy sauce, their spicy dry green beans, their egg friend rice, and their vegetable tempura. The tempura came with an apple sauce for dipping which was unique yet delicious. The fact that this place is open late is really nice. I recommend if someone wants an affordable meal that will fill you and make you feel warm on a cold day.

There were patrons in the restaurant who seemed to enjoy their experience so I don’t want to be too negative. I will just say that there are more flavorful, higher quality, and/or cheaper food within a mile radius to enjoy

This place has great tasting food and it is traditional American Chinese food! They make the food cooked to order and the food has plenty of flavor. The staff was fantastic from the minute we walked in and the portion sizes are huge. Highly recommended if you looking for Chinese in Boston!

The place was just ok. Many drinks/ cocktails weren’t available, so we had to change our choice many times. The scorpion bowl was special and it was a fun experience to share the drink. It was a karaoke night and it wasn’t that successful, it would be better to have a DJ playing music
