Honig Vineyard And Winery Review - Napa - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"If it’s an especially sunny day in the Napa Valley, we like to hang out at Honig Vineyard in Rutherford. They do wine tastings under the trees on the front patio. Plus, they make a great sauvignon blanc that’s worth getting a bottle of after a day of enjoying the afternoon weather." - Will Kamensky

New Tours in Napa Valley - AFAR

"With dual commitments to solar power and sustainable farming (as well as special dogs that can sniff out pests and obviate the need for pesticides), Rutherford’s Honig Winery is one of the greenest properties in the entire Napa Valley. A guided tour through the estate vineyard is an ideal way to learn about the winery’s environmentally friendly practices." - Matt Villano

Google
Had a great experience here, we went on a Sunday I called in before hand and Debbie kindly reserved a table for my group. None of us have ever done this before and we’re not wine people at all, but it was a nice experience at $40 pp, we had actually gone to Frogs first but they were fully booked so it was great that it worked out, our host was knowledgeable and great! I would recommend!

Google
I am definitely more of a brewery guy, but had a great relaxing time at this winery. They had a nice outdoor area with 5 or 6 picnic tables with umbrellas. Good spot to get away from the crowds. We brought our 3 kids and some snacks to enjoy with the wine. Dog friendly as well. Perfect time of year to see the fall colors.

Google
We had such an amazing time here. Everyone is so nice, Edgar was our host for the wine tasting and he made the experience even more fascinating. We didn’t book in advance, but got lucky for an opening and Debbie was so nice and accommodating.

Google
Connected with Ron Young, the wine host. Outstanding service and knowledge. My wife and I will return soon and join as members. The wine is exceptional and the environment, views, and feel is in the top 5 wineries we've visited. Thank you for a great experience and we love the bees too!

Google
Arrived in Napa sooner than expected so we showed up without a reservation and they offered a glass in their picnic area but could also squeeze us in for a seated tasting. We tasted a nice variety of wines including an extra pour not on the menu. We were so impressed we left with a couple of bottles and joined their wine club.

Google
We visited Honig this past Saturday to celebrate our anniversary. They had a special table set up for us outside...so cute and inviting! Our server was so personable, knowledgeable and friendly...the wines...absolutely AMAZING! We love your place! Thank you for helping us celebrate! We have visited before and definitely will be back! 🍷🍷🍷

Google
We had an amazing tasting here. Beautiful property. So laid back and generous pours. Not pushy on their "club" and an amazing dessert wine. Would come again and highly recommend

Google
Friendly staff, relaxing grounds with plenty of tables and nooks for privacy while enjoying wine. Wheel-chair accessible bathrooms, driver lounge, indoor and outdoor seating, plenty of parking. Recently attended a pick-up party and staff was amazing, and knowledgeable!

Yelp
Great experience today with Edgar and Debbie! All the wines showed well! We have been a member for quite awhile and today was the best experience ever! Thank you so much!

Yelp
I came here for an intimate wedding celebration in June and it was a beautiful setup! We were all seated underneath a canopy of green foliage, which made for beautiful photos. The staff was very informative about the history of their wines and helpful in tending to our needs. I didn't love all the wines in our tasting, but overall still had a lovely experience!

Yelp
We came here while in Napa for a birthday celebration. The service and wine were excellent. Not only do they allow kids, they welcome them with coloring and snacks. They went above and beyond with special touches like an extra tasting when you arrive.

Yelp
I don't want to write a review about how amazing Honig is because I'm afraid it will be crazy busy when we are there. I also *must* write a review about how amazing Honig is because if you haven't tried their wines, you are missing out in life. They do both whites and reds exceptionally well. When you visit the property you discover their deep commitment to sustainable agriculture, family atmosphere and technique. I'll say it again: Honig should be a must-stop on everyone's Napa Valley tour list.

Yelp
The winery is cute and the wine is good. But the wine specialist told us that to waive the two $40 tasting fees we would have to spend $500 of wine. We bought $540 worth of wine thinking we would then get $80 (2 $40 tasting) waived. We then learned that for the amount we spent, we would only get 1 tasting waived, and to get both of the tasting waived - we would need to spend $1000. That is WILD. Having to spend $1000 to waive 80 bucks is insane. We bought 9 bottles and they wouldn't even waive the remaining 40 bucks of our tasting fee. That left - pun intended - such a bad taste in my mouth.

Yelp
Had wine tasting appointment on site. Party of three and four others joined for an intimate tasting. Employee was knowledgeable and friendly. Sat upstairs with big table looking out at vineyard. Tasted 4 different reds and one white, all were wonderful. Nice cool weather that day. Owner stopped by to say hello. Small gift shop. They also offer honey that is produced onsite. Prefer this experience to a larger commercial experience. Bought a couple of bottles. Daughter got honey which she's enjoying now. Highly recommend to the red wine drinker.

Yelp
4 of us reserved a tasting {$40 each) for 2 on Sunday afternoon. We arrived 25 minutes early; but, even though the tasting area was empty, we were told our host was on break for 20 minutes. Then we were informed that there would be an additional fee of$10 each for 2 of us for the "educational" value of the presentation. Our host eventually showed up, spent about a minute per wine, left us for 5 minutes between pours and provided no "education" in reality. At the end of the last wine, we got up and left. We all agreed it was the worst tasting we've ever experienced, especially for $100.
google avatar

Daniel G.

Yelp
They charge a fee to have an INFANT with you at a tasting. Yes they provide juice and goldfish, but guess what - my 4 month can't drink juice and can't eat goldfish! Maybe if you were truly kid friendly you'd understand that. What a RIDICULOUS policy. Any parent would consider this laughable. Yes there are other wineries that charge for children. But they have exceptions for children under 2 like any reasonable winery would. Robert Mondavi winery does, and it's a storied place with great wine. Castello di Amorosa does as well, and they have a CASTLE. This winery being family friendly is a lie.

Yelp
Great visit and great wines! We really enjoyed our tasting with Edgar who was knowledgeable and easy going. Honig is dog friendly was is a plus as we brought the pup this time for our Napa getaway. We came on a rainy day but their patio was covered and heaters were going so it was still super comfortable. We can't wait to be back on a sunny summer day to enjoy the atmosphere and view.
google avatar

Sara K.

Yelp
They charged us $10 to have our 3 month old baby with us... on top of charging my spouse the full tasting fee even though we alerted them he would not be drinking. After attempting to call multiple times, being promised return phone calls that never happened, I was told there was nothing they could do. Horrible customer experience. If you are looking for other family accepting wineries, I would recommend Burgess. They were amazing!
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
Very friendly but the wine tasting experience is overpriced and the wines are below average. The only plus is the lovely outdoor seating area and lack of crowds. The staff was also very nice, so I'll be generous with 3*. But honestly we won't be back as the value just isn't here.
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
TLDR: Told we wouldn't be charged, but that wasn't true. Don't go here with kids unless both parents will be able to stay and drink the whole time. We enjoyed our experience until we got the bill. My wife and I were in Napa for Mothers Day weekend with some friends and went to various kid friendly wineries. Per usual, places tend to require a credit card up front and 24 hour notice for cancellation. Every other tasting room was understanding about how kids can change things. We had four people coming to taste and two kids with us. Upon arrival, one of the adults wasn't feeling well and chose to spend the time watching his daughter instead of tasting. We mentioned this to the host and she noted that it was "absolutely no problem." The tone and phrasing convinced our entire group that we wouldn't be charged for the tasting. Let's be real, if we knew he was going to be charged he would have found a way to drink. It was not just a miscommunication and everywhere else we went had no problem accommodating changes if most of the group still participated. We didn't receive a check, since they had our card on file, so we noticed the issue when checking our statement. Called to have it adjusted and was told they likely wouldn't change anything, but took my number to look into it and call me back. After 3-4 days I hadn't heard from them, so I called again and was told they were planning on calling me sometime in the next week. Only to tell me that they won't do anything. Seriously why lose a customer over $40.

Yelp
Summary: I would absolutely come back. What we got: We did the wine tasting with a group of 7. Paul was our guide and he was absolutely brilliant. He was so knowledgeable about the wines and even the history of the vineyard it really gave us a great sense of the place and fantastic experience. I would absolutely recommend this winery for the experience, for the wine, but most especially for the service. The wine was so delicious we all just had to get a bottle at the end. Others: sit outside. It's a beautiful vineyard, well shaded and did not feel hot even if it was in the high 80s. I don't get to go Napa often but the person guiding your tasting makes all the difference. If you can at all request for Paul I would recommend it for a special experience.

Yelp
Short Story: A great winery! We got a half bottle and enjoyed it while watching the sun set! Long Story: We came here at 4PM with a reservation for a tasting. We asked about the wines and found out that instead of just doing a tasting, we can buy a half bottle. We did just that and found a picnic table to enjoy our wine and snacks. Let me be clear, that we definitely asked the employees about getting the half bottle and having a few snacks beforehand. We were assured that lots of people do this. We enjoyed the bottle of 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon so much that we bought a full bottle. The half bottle cost $35 and the full bottle was $50. I believe the 2013 is harder to find but they do have the 2015 in stores. Verdict: I'll definitely go back!

Yelp
Came here with friends who had the membership, and really liked it. It was located on a vineyard, and had both indoor and outdoor tasting area. The interior was really well decorated with plenty of wood panels and furnitures, whole outside has plenty of shade and cast iron furnitures. Since it's by reservation only, the whole experience felt quite peaceful and intimate. We were impressed with their Rose and got a few bottle of it. I think everything was made organically, so it's a big plus for us.

Yelp
Off the beaten track but worth sussing it out. We were looking for a place with outdoor seating and that wasn't already full or snooty, and this was it. The patio is perfect; flanked by the hills and rambling vineyards heavy with grapes about to be harvested. The service is super attentive and they set up a table with ice water and bread sticks and you get a dedicated and knowledgeable server--ours was Josh. The wine is delicious. They specialize in whites and they were pretty out of this world. We were also gaga over their dessert wine.

Blyth G.

Yelp
First impression of this winery weren't the best. Trying to a do walk in appointment but was told they had no availability but at the same time I was online and say they had something. So whatever I decided just to book the appointment online and not make a big deal and then once online I noticed the $10 fee for non drinkers as many reviews have mentioned. My friend said she would pay since it was for her husband but I just thought it was weird to charge someone for not drinking. Our wine host was nice and knowledgeable and the wines were tasty, that's why I give the 3 stars.

Yelp
Talk about feeling at home! This place is defiantly a labor of love. Recommended by a Sommelier we immediately fell in love with this gem. As soon as we entered we were greeted with smiles and warm welcomes. Wine tasting was spectacular! I found my favorite dessert wine.

Yelp
Good value especially for Rutherford. Outside tasting tent is super spacious. Antonia our wine steward was super nice, funny, non-pressuring and best of all local so she gave us some great recommendations. Come for the well valued Sauvignon Blancs and be surprised by how good the Cabs are. Definitely worth a visit.
google avatar

Yelp
Made a reservation and this winery was easy to find with ample parking. They have a big tent set up for outdoor tasting with tables generous spread apart. They had our names written on a small chalkboard. The server was very knowledgable about the wines and served them at a reasonable pace. Wines were good and they even provided sparkling water to the DDs and crackers for palate cleaning. The negative is even if you don't drink, there is a $10 surcharge. Overall, the wines and service were good.

Yelp
Review during covid (September). Honig was one of our winery stops during a trip to Napa for my husbands birthday. I made a reservation about 2 weeks before our trip and we had no issues. During our reservation, there was only one other couple tasting at the same time as us so it was nice and quiet. I believe they had maybe 4-6 tables spread at least 6 feet apart outside for tastings. The workers here were super nice, explained the history of the winery, and answered any questions. We were also able to re-taste some of the wines that we were unsure of as well as a couple of wines that were not on the tasting menu. I love that we took our time and didn't feel rushed or pressured to purchase anything or join their wine club. I did end up purchasing one bottle from Honig to enjoy at home.

Yelp
Came here for a tasting on my most recent visit to Napa. My friend selected this tasting and made the reservation. We checked in and were seated outside... love love loved our hosts! everyone was super friendly and informative and casual! It was as if we were hanging with super smart, cool wine friends The tasting was super relaxing... everything we had was delicious! love the whole honey bee theme decor inside was nice... they gave us each a wine cork keychain..yay love my souvenir yes would totally come back

Yelp
Our wine tasting experience was nothing short of excellent. We came in early July and this was our last stop of the trip, but definitely our favorite. The wine experts take the time to educate their customers on the Honig story and what makes their Sauvignon Blanc the best in the valley (and I can attest to that). Not to mention, they put their money where their mouth is by running a sustainable, eco-friendly, solar powered winery & vineyard. Very pleasant experience, will be back for sure.

Yelp
Oh Honig! How I love this place and these wines. This was one of the very first wineries I came to when I started coming to the Valley, as it was also one of the first wines I had tasted when I was a server in college. I still remember that very distinctive bottle with the images floating in the back. I hadn't been here in years when we met some friends here recently. Our host was lovely, the setting and the weather were picturesque, and the wines, as always, perfection. We were able to just hang out, relax and enjoy. They gave us plenty of time to visit, but also taught us a little bit about the winery, the vines and the wines. We loved being there and they always make you feel so at home. We took home a beautiful bottle of Bertolucci cabernet sauvignon, a gift from the friends we had met there, and had it that very same night with the steaks we grilled. This is a must-do as far as I'm concerned, and I won't wait this long to go back. Extra points for being a leader and early adopter of all the sustainability measures, some of which it sounds like they pioneered.

Yelp
Honig was a great find! They welcomed our dogs in their roomy patio area. Great location, great wine selections & great staff! We would definitely visit Honig again!

Yelp
It was absolutely wonderful. Sitting outside on a beautiful sunny day drinking great wine. It doesn't get any better then that.

Yelp
Claudia "Claw" and Mr Irresistible Casey are simply awesome hosts. One of my favorite wineries and they went the extra mile to take care-off our friends from U.K. This is a hidden gem in Rutherford. If you mention my name you get extra smiles and good vibes. 6 stars.

Yelp
We just recently visited Honig on a cold Monday morning being the only party outdoors. There were six of us and we really enjoyed the tent, the chandelier and wine. Most of us opted for a classic tasting at $30 per person. We thoroughly enjoyed the wines and purchased just shy of a full case, with an additional two bottles to take for lunch. They also offer picnic tables that are available on a first come first serve basis that overlook lovely vines. Honig is a family run establishment and it definitely shows in the care that they take with their guests.

Yelp
This was a sweet little winery to visit. They take reservations in advance for their tasting and tour. My group of 4 decided only to do a tasting of 4 wines. This was the first of our wineries and it was by far the most relaxed. The atmosphere was very cozy as you're in a small outdoor portion right in front of the quaint winery (which has bathrooms and a library room inside), and you're sitting very near the vineyards. We were able to walk around the grapes and olive trees in between and after the tasting. I think because you're so close to the vineyards, there's a slight smell of manure, but you get used to it pretty quickly. We got seated outside at our reserved table. The weather was fantastic, so we opted to stay outdoors than go inside. We got to try 1 white, 2 reds, and then 1 dessert wine. I'm not a fan of super sweet wines, so the dessert wine was a bit overpowering to end on. (2 of my friends shared a single flight tasting, so that 1 friend drank just the reds, while the other friend drank the whites.) They give you crispy long breadsticks to eat while drinking your wine. Parking: There is a free parking lot here for a couple of cars. Because they don't take walk ins and it's by appointment only (unless you're just buying a bottle of wine or plan on buying a bottle to partake in on the property at the picnic area), there should be enough parking at the time you arrive.

Kathrine G.

Yelp
We had a wonderful garden tasting. The whites were better than reds in our opinion. And our friends loved the sweet port and sweet white wine, that's not my thing though. The regular tasting patio seemed to be very family friendly, we saw several children. We were pleased to have the garden area, the views were spectacular.
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
This was a delightful wine tasting, definitely one of my favorites. I loved that we were guided through the wines with an explanation for each pour- it felt personal and intentional. And the outdoor patio is dreamy with flowers, nearby vineyards, and a lovely breeze. I'm particularly grateful that they're dog-friendly so all of us felt welcomed and comfortable. This is definitely a spot to bring friends, family, or a date. We would love to return next time we're in town. Absolutely recommend!

Yelp
I visited Honig because my friend had high recommendations for the winery and I was happy that I did. I made a reservation on Yelp and on the day that I arrived, I was greeted and escorted to a seating section in the back. On the table next to the chairs, there was a cute chalkboard with my name on it. I really enjoyed the wine Honig offered in the wine tasting flight. For each of the wines, our host explained its background, its flavor profile, and what to look for as we tasted it. I appreciate that we never felt like we were rushed to finish our current glass to go to the next wine on the list. Additionally, unlike a lot of the major wineries in the area, it never felt like we were being pressured to buy wine to go. If you're looking for a cozy wine tasting experience, I would highly recommend Honig.
google avatar

Yelp
Honig is a relaxing, unpretentious, beautiful vineyard well worth the visit. We booked the last seating for a tasting at 4:30 which also coincided with the last vineyard visit of our Napa portion of our trip. We were greeted with a welcome sign on our table on the patio just outside their font doors and were received by a wonderful host/server named Marisol. If you have the weather and opportunity to sit outdoors, I highly recommend it. The vineyard and mountains make a beautiful ambiance to taste their amazing wines. We also had the opportunity to meet Michael Honig! He was so kind and down to earth, he even remembered meeting my friends & I which was with over 6 years ago now in Chicago. He stayed to chat with us for a few minutes and it was the icing on the cake and was definitely an unexpected (fan girl) moment. Lucky for us, Marisol stayed and ended up being our server for the entirety of evening - she was fabulous! We ended up moving inside to a semi-private living room style area as it gets quite chilly once the sunsets and continued our tasting in their beautiful indoor tasting area. I could have stayed here for hours! If Honig is not on your must visit list. You better add it!

Yelp
I made an effortless reservation for a tasting for two at Honig through Yelp. It was easy to get a spot at 2 pm on a Saturday during a holiday weekend (reservations are required for a tasting). When we arrived the winery was almost in complete chaos. The weather was nice and sunny so the outdoor tables were packed. It was a little unclear where we were supposed to check in for our appointment as every employee we encountered was busy assisting other customers. They didn't greet us, but we finally waited our turn at the checkout registers until someone helped us. The hostess was eager to get us outside at "a nice table," but my hubby has a history of skin cancer and can't be out in the sun so we asked if we could sit indoors instead. We were cheerfully and quickly accommodated to a plush couch inside. I was surprised that none of the outdoor tasting tables had any sort of shade covering, making it unpleasant for people who can't stand direct sunlight. Soon our lovely hosted tasting began! Tasting fees cost $30 per person and included 5 wines (4 on the menu and one bonus pour). We tried a delicious Sauvignon Blanc ($30), the 2014 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon ($50), the 2013 Bartoucci Vineyard Cab ($100), a single vineyard Oakville Cab ($105), finishing up with a sweet dessert wine, the 2015 Cabernet Dulce ($75). Our hostess was acting very sly and worried about pouring us a splash of the Oakville Cab since it was reserved for those doing the more expensive Reserve tasting, but she recognized our palates and thought we'd love it -- and she was correct. Wineries need to be more accommodating to customers that love wine because they're missing out on sales if they refuse to pour "the good stuff" for folks. I mean, if she hadn't poured that wine, I wouldn't have joined the wine club on this, my very first visit! My love for the winery all came down to that ONE wine that we weren't even supposed to get a taste of. The Wine Club is a great deal because it isn't a huge nor expensive commitment and you get a fantastic 15% discount on purchases as well as your tasting fees waived on the spot. Since we purchased two bottles of the Oakville Cab and two bottles of the 2014 Napa Cab, the discount alone made sense (and we got our expensive $60 in tasting fees waived). They also threw in a set of their adorable honeybee logo wine glasses (I couldn't get them home on the plane so I had to leave them but I hope someone cool picked 'em up at the airport) and a free Honig hat. I was surprised at how much I loved a couple of the wines here. I didn't like all of the wines mind you, but the Oakville Cab absolutely blew me away. The Napa Cab was good too, especially for the very affordable price point. We ended up taking one of the the Napa Cabs to dinner at the Rutherford Grill that evening and it was even better than I remembered from earlier in the day. I very much enjoyed my tasting here and although the winery was packed, we weren't rushed in the least and we weren't ignored either. We had very good service from a friendly hostess and I felt so welcome during our entire visit. I'll be visiting again in May as a club member and can't wait to see what that will be like because I have a feeling Honig will roll out the red carpet for their members. Another huge plus is the fact that Honig has gender neutral restrooms, showing a fantastic and modern sensibility. I have two transgender friends so I'm very sensitive to their needs, and by having a gender neutral restroom the winery ensures that everyone feels comfortable and welcome. Kudos to that! Overall, this was a great experience in a casual setting with delicious wines. You can't ask for more than that in the Napa Valley.

Yelp
Gavin was incredible! Ask for him to serve you. He was extremely attentive, very personable, and knowledgeable about the wines. Our group arrived a little late but they were so accommodating. They gave us a fantastic experience and the wines were delicious. We loved it and would do it again. Thanks for a great trip! We love you Gavin!

Yelp
If you like dessert wine (I don't, but was converted!) then this is a must do in Napa Valley. This winery has low key vibes but is naturally beautiful and the wine is solid, I especially loved their reserve Sauvignon Blanc! There is also a great picnic area to the side so this is a good stop for lunch. Only star loss is for not waiving any tasting fees with a large purchase, we left with 5 bottles and were still stuck with the fee.

Yelp
I've been a fan of Honig for many years - way before their current tasting room setup. Reservations can be made online. For my most recent visit, we showed up to our 10:15 am appointment and we saw a nice sign that said, "Welcome to Honig! Silva Party!" That was a nice touch, and we had a very pleasant server who took very good care of us. Fortunately, Honig has kept the same winemaker and their wines have been consistent. They are especially known for their flagship wine, an entry-level Sauvignon Blanc. Their Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is also a solid wine at an attractive price point. If you like white dessert wines, the Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc is spectacular. Their reserve wines are respectable, but a considerable jump in price per bottle. New visitors to the winery should stick to the basic Classic Experience. The tasting room and seating arrangements for tastings is tastefully done in a relaxed setting. I will definitely be returning in the future.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I did a lil wine tour for his birthday weekend and we both whole heartedly agreed that Honig was the highlight of that tour! Not only was the wine delicious, the gent who helped our table (we never got his name :c) was knowledgeable and super friendly and down to earth. Very relaxed and not snobby at al--win! We whole heartedly enjoy our time here that we have already recommended Honig to our friends who will be visiting Napa soon! And we even bought a bottle (wishing we bought more tbh). We will definitely return here and we highly recommend! :)

Yelp
I don't know why this winery appears on a lot of family friendly lists. In my opinion they are anti-kid. they charge $10 a kid just to be on the premises. No tour, just to be there with me while I do a wine tasting. They give you a packet of goldfish and a juice box to lessen the blow but imo go somewhere else if you have kids. Plenty of wineries that allow children that don't charge you for their presence. My son is only 18 months, I was told it doesn't matter even if a baby is 1 month old they still charge $10. Anti-kid. So don't let that be a reason to visit.

Yelp
000000000 stars. They deserve 0 stars, they treat you like you're garbage here. You know when people say "snooty" winery's this is the winery they're talking about. They need to send their employees to a hospitality school and learn some manners. I've never been treated like this in my life, we arrived and immediately was treated like we was invisible. I came hundreds of miles to try your wine, no wonder all of your tables were empty. Enjoy!

Yelp
You can tell this vineyard values its staff. At the entrance there is a 4x6 portrait of each employee. That warmed the cockles of my heart, and so did their wine. One of those employees (whose name escapes me) served me 4 samples plus a bonus from the $20 class tasting flight. The bonus wine (2010 Cabernet Sauvignon - Campbell Vineyard) was delicious, as in $110/bottle delicious. Perhaps my favorite, though, was the 2013 Sauvignon Blanc Late Harvest dessert wine ($70). Overall, the staff was very friendly and took their time to explain each wine. They even went out of their way to make suggestions as to how to get all the wine I wanted to buy back to Jersey safe and sound. Of the 500+ vineyard choices you have, this one is worth a visit, however I can only speak for the stand-up tasting room and not the sit-down courtyard experience.

Yelp
We came in for a tasting with our friends and for the price and ambience of the place we were not impressed. Our service was also a bit lackluster. We did a full tasting of mixed red and white. Their sav blanc was really good but again for the price, vibe and our server we just weren't feeling it. We have purchased honig in the past and our friends are members but I was pretty bummed with the tasting experience. We brought some of our friends who never get out and we were really hoping to have a different experience. For a solid white wine they definitely have some good options but their reds are not our favorite. If we come back I hope we have a better experience.

Yelp
Wine Tasting with 2 of my friends, on a Saturday... first stop is Honig. This winery was highly recommended to one of my friends and we immediately made the call to book it. We could not have been happier we did. We did the first tasting of the day, right when they opened at 10am. We walked in the door and all the staff was ready for guests, smiling and immediately showed us to our table, with our name on it, and glasses ready to start the tasting. We had a menu of 4 wines to taste, a white, 2 reds, and a dessert wine. With each tasting, David (our wine tasting guide) would tell us about the wine, what to pair it with, and answered all questions we had. He was so personable, funny, great with recommendations of both, the wine and things to do in the area, after the wineries were closed. We had the opportunity to do a side by side comparison with the 2012 Cabernet they had for the tasting, against the same wine but from 2008. I love when they do these side by side tastings. Makes you appreciate and learn the process of the wine, aging, and what difference the climate, grapes, etc. can make in a wine. The atmosphere here is very casual and at the same time romantic. The outside seating for the tasting is very welcoming and relaxed. The staff sits with you while you're doing the tasting. They make you feel comfortable asking questions, saying what you taste in each wine and what you think of them. They will even pour more of the ones you like, without you even asking. They are there to make sure you enjoy the experience and the wine and they are genuinely happy to do so. At the end, I was: 1. Very happy for those generous wine pours (I was cold and by the second glass I had completely forgotten about getting my jacket in the car) :p 2. Grateful to have had such a fun and knowledgeable wine guide 3. Incredibly impressed with their dessert wine. I hardly ever like any sweet wines but their Sauvignon Blanc Late Harvest is excellent. Liked it so much, I bought a bottle. 4. In love with their 2008 Cab. So smooth, yet big on flavor 5. Excited for the rest of our wine tasting day. This was the perfect start to our day. If you are planning a Napa wine tasting tour, make sure you book a tasting at Honig. I assure you, the wine, and the experience will not disappoint. This is one I would go back to any chance I get. When people care and are proud of what they do it shows, Honig is a clear and perfect example of it. David, and Honig, thank you for making our Napa experience so memorable.

Yelp
This was our second stop of the day and wow, what a great time. John met us and got the ball rolling quick....or rather got the bottles pouring quick. We sat outside because it was just too damn beautiful to be anywhere else. This place has a nice laid back atmosphere and some truly beautiful wines. We settled on a unique white that was very very good and even ordered a case to send back home. Everyone here was a pleasure. Yes they have great wine and beautiful scenery but if you have folks who don't LOVE what they do, it can all go sour rather quickly. John loves it all and it shows.... John was truly entertaining, informative and engaging all at once. If you can get him as your "tour guide", consider yourself lucky. This place has some great Cabernet as well and I managed to secure myself a good bottle before it's all sold out! Can't say enough about the experience here. Yes there are some "big boys" all around them but don't miss this spot. Experience is what you're after, not labels.

Yelp
We went here for a girls trip last weekend and had so much fun! It was the perfect combination of good wine and casual environment / nice people . Josh was amazing and no other winery topped his expertise and sense of humor - we brought him up all day ! We loved both the wine and the service. Would recommend !

Yelp
I loved this place! What a wonderful experience. I had just discovered Honig a week prior to my trip! I called quickly and scheduled a tasting to make sure I visited while in Napa. Driving in you feel like you must have taken a wrong turn because it's not easily seen right off the highway. In the middle of nowhere it seems. The tasting room is really pretty. They treated us like long time friends. The tasting was very casual. We mostly sat on a sofa like you would at a friend's house and also casually strolled around. We sat inside but they do provide sitting outside too. We were excited to learn that the grounds use to belong to the Caymus family. Aha! That must have something to do with why we love it! They are also environmentally conscious and practice sustainable farming. I am glad we found them and will definitely go back when in town.

Yelp
One of the stops on our 13 winery blitzkrieg thru the Napa Valley was Honig Vineyard & Winery. As soon as we were greeted by Casey we knew there was something special about Honig. He took us to see the vines and we learned about the birds & bees ...... and bats and dogs that assist them to grow grapes in the most pest free organic manner. We toured their modern processing areas and saw their tanks and barrel aging facility. Casey took us to an impressive hospitality room with a deck and a great view of the vineyards. They had a reserve tasting set up for us. We learned the different appellations, and about the families who grew the grapes and got to taste the results. The wonderful reds were perfectly paired with some delicious food samplings. We were then joined by one of the owners, the stunningly beautiful, Stephanie Honig who took the time to talk to us. It became apparent to me what makes Honig Vineyard & Winery special. From their great wine, to their leadership in sustainable growing practices, to their love of family, to their fun employees to the way they treat their customers and guests like VIPs. The Honig's care. I highly recommend that you visit Honig Vineyard & Winery and taste and enjoy their wine.

Yelp
My colleagues and I were in desperate need of a drink after a stressful morning, so we opened a bottle of Honig Sauvignon Blanc in the office. We instantly feel in love with the sweet, citrusy flavors. I glanced at the label and was thrilled to discover that the winery was actually located in the Napa Valley, where I had plans to visit in the coming weeks. Upon arrival at our hotel, I inquired about the vineyard with our concierge, who reassured me that Honig was only a short drive away. The small winery was less flashy than most, but their efforts were more focused on deliciously crisp wine production done with care. The rustic tasting room was rather delightful, but enjoying the sunshine on the outdoor patio made for an even more enjoyable afternoon. The bartenders were interesting and friendly; they were willing to spend as much time with us as we would give them. We tasted about six fabulous wines that were all rather affordable. I contemplated joining their wine club, but instead wound up purchasing their exclusive, most expensive bottle of $75 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon. Though I typically opt for wines that are between $10-$25, this varietal was well worth the splurge. Honig offered a more casual and home-style feel than any of the other vineyards that we visited. Even without a tour of the grounds, we felt like we had been welcomed with open arms.

Yelp
Looking for a winery to round off our Afternoon tasting I called to see if they had any available appointments as I had heard that their tastings were by appointment only. Although it was a Friday afternoon they were able to fit us. Greater and seated outdoors we were soon greeted by Liz who was our host. She was very pleasant and Mark C and I enjoyed speaking with her as we tried their wines. Honig is a large production winery but their tasting gave us that small boutique winery tasting feel that we have missed at some of the large wineries we have visited in Napa. Started with Sauvignon Blanc which was crispy and refreshing and as we sat among the vines Liz was able to give us some history of the winery. Loved the fact that they are a sustainable winery AND one of the first wineries in CA that uses solar energy to power the winery and they reduce truck traffic by consolidating shipments. We also tried three other reds and surprisingly I lived a pink Canernet Savauigoun... Don't laugh until you try it. All and all we spent a lovely time at Honig. If you have the opportunity and are able to get an appointment stop by and check them out.
