"Right in the middle of downtown, The Hood River Hotel marries historical intrigue with hipster cool. Walk into the old brick building’s narrow, but spacious, lobby and a black-and-white checkered floor greets you, just as it has for more than a century. Sleek modern couches flank a working fireplace with a crackling fire, while the head of an elk looms above. Indie rock pipes through the speakers while the din of diners at Broder Ost next door lends an almost party-like atmosphere. There’s nothing cookie-cutter about this place. Every room is different; try to book a river-view room so you can peek at the action on the Columbia. The lounge is fun; there’s free coffee. Or cocoon in your room and order up a bucket of mimosas for two ($15), or six icy-cold beers ($20-$32)." - Danielle Centoni

"How did it strike you on arrival?Right in the middle of downtown, The Hood River Hotel marries historical intrigue with hipster cool. Walk into the old brick building’s narrow, but spacious, lobby and a black-and-white checkered floor greets you, just as it has for more than a century. Sleek modern couches flank a working fireplace with a crackling fire, while the head of an elk looms above. Indie rock pipes through the speakers while the din of diners at Broder next door lends an almost party-like atmosphere. What’s the crowd like?People are here for the cool vintage vibe, not luxe accommodations, so you’re looking at a cohort of young singles and couples who appreciate all things old-school. How was check in?Check in at the front desk and you’ll be given an old-fashioned key, complete with a brass tag. There are only three floors, but it’s fun to take the old-timey elevator, which has doors you have to open and close yourself. And what did you think about the rooms? There’s nothing cookie-cutter about this place. Every room is different; try to book a river-view room so you can peek at the action on the Columbia. The queen beds sport fluffy down comforters; in place of a headboard, there's a long, large-scale photo stretching across the back wall—usually '40s-era people engaging in outdoorsy fun. Two little tables flank the bed, sometimes with a vintage telephone instead of a cordless one. The standard rooms are tiny, with the world’s smallest bathroom tucked into what you might think is a closet: just a toilet and a tiled shower wedged in kitty-corner. But the sink is outside in the room itself, making for a fairly efficient use of space. A 10-bed hostel-style bunkhouse is set to open later this fall (or when COVID-19 restrictions deem it safe to do so), complete with lockers and a shared kitchenette. Did the little things, like mini bar or shower goodies, make a good impression? In the standard rooms, there's no space for a mini-bar—or really any in-room amenities besides a TV, for that matter. But the suites are like little apartments, with sitting areas, large bathrooms, a closet, and even a fully equipped kitchenette with a range, refrigerator, microwave, and sink and dishes. What are our dining and drinking options?Broder Ost, a spinoff of an insanely popular Scandinavian brunch spot in Portland, sits on the main level of the hotel, with easy access from the lobby. There’s no room service (yet), but it’s easy to pop down for aebleskiver, Swedish hash, or smorrebrod, Danish open-face sandwiches. At the front desk, you can order a bucket of mimosas for two ($15), or six icy-cold beers ($20-$32) to take to your room. Anything stand out about other services and features? The hotel partners with a bunch of local businesses to offer discounts on everything from coffee to bike rentals to tasting-room fees. Bottom line: why should we stay here?Staying here puts you in the heart of town. Plus, this place exudes vintage cool." - Danielle Centoni

When a vintage hotel is $250 a night you think the experience will be vintage not the amenities. Never been to a hotel where I couldn’t control my own thermostat. And it can’t go below 72 because the system will freeze?? How janky can you get. It wasn’t even nor was the ceiling vent opened when we arrived. The bed was also old. So soft you sink in it. At least the staff was pleasant.

Such a charming and vibrant place in the heart of lovely Hood River and the Columbia River Gorge! So easy going and welcoming. The hotel offers historic charm and modern comfort. My spacious suite was very clean. The bed is very comfortable, one of the best ever actually. Inside the hotel is a lovely pub, Broder Øst, that serves great tea, coffee and food. A good surprise was the jazz concert in the lobby on Saturday night. The location of the hotel is excellent, with shops and restaurants around the corner, a Flixbus stop nearby and at walking distant from the waterfront.

Google
Great location for all things Hood River. We were in a bind because it was Memorial Day weekend and all restaurants were very busy with long wait times. The front desk woman at the hotel suggested a place that was off the beaten path and it was amazing!! Great service and fun old hotel. Train is loud though! Earplugs provided in room totally helped. Definitely recommend.

We had a great experience during our two nice day at Hood River hotel. The rooms are cute, clean and cozy. The lobby is super cool with a large fireplace and comfortable couches to relax on. The history of the hotel is fascinating. It's very cool to see historic photos of the hotel hanging on the walls in the lobby. The staff were helpful and pleasant. The rates are reasonable. We would definitely stay here again.

Google
Nice building, rooms were clean, staff was friendly. The window of the room I stayed in was facing the train tracks. It was propped open to allow what appeared to be an AC unit, so the window panes weren't closed allowing a gap around 1" the noise of the trains all night long was so loud it woke me up almost every hour. Luckily, I was only staying one night, but it was the first stay after a long flight and being up for 20+ hours. The excuse for the noise is that it is a historical building, the interior design is modern but with historic windows.

With the recent chaos caused by the Trump Administrations firing of Park Rangers and other staff it is important to find lodging that can help you identify trails on local maps and Park Maps to hike around the perimeter of Mt Hood. This Hotel is staffed by local people with regional knowledge that my hiking partner and I found very useful in September, 2024 when we hiked four different mountain hikes in Mt Hood National Park and the surrounding trails on National Forest Lands. The older hotel rooms in the original building were big enough to stash all our hiking equipment and two boat size freezers with our perishable foods and drinks. The elevator to the fourth floor is large enough to bring these types of freezers to the rooms without difficulties. The staff were wonderful. Five Star rating. Lou Martin and Mark Chalem

The hotel is fine, it is very old but well preserved, I was scammed by an internet page when trying to book online and when I got to reception they couldn't find my reservation, I understand that this is not the hotel's fault so when I got there I had to pay again for my room because obviously my reservation was not in their system. The receptionist who helped me the night I arrived was very friendly! I had dinner at the restaurant in front of the hotel "Celilo" the food was very good! Everything was fine except that at night when I slept I couldn't close my curtains because they touched the heater under the window when I closed them and I didn't want to cause a fire at night while I was sleeping. I think they should review this situation with the curtains that make contact with the heater in the room. They don’t have parking so u have to park on the street and if you don’t want to get a ticket u have to get up very early in the morning next day to put some coins in the parking meter.

Had a great time. Friendly staff. Central and ideal location. The jazz on Saturday night was outstanding. And Broders for breakfast couldn't have been better. ||Yeah, the floors squeaked, and we did hear the person in the room above us walk across the room. But I also understand it is an old hotel. No biggie.||Will be returning.

Yelp
Beautiful, clean and safe hotel. Staff is friendly and room is nice . It's next to a beautiful river. I stayed there twice so far. I told my family about it too.

Joel K.

Yelp
Attentive staff, easy check in and check out, parking available nearby. Comfortable room with nice amenities. Beautiful view of the Columbia River from the third floor.

Yelp
Was ok, interest place but tire alarm went off several times in the middle of the night said was a wiring issue. Manager was actually really rude about it when I asked to be reimbursed one of the nights I stayed, was kind off weird how rude she was. Owner saw the string of emails though and offered a few nights stay free of charge.

Jillian T.

Yelp
I will never stay here again. I worked with the front desk for my reservation. Since i was planning a birthday stay for my son, I talked to the front desk a couple times about the options and the prices. When I arrived the room was $100 more than what I had been quoted. When I returned home, I realized I had never received a confirmation email for the room. The manager was unwilling to honor the quote. I was offered 10% off my room rate, which amounted to $35. Do the math. If you want to stay at a loud, overpriced hotel that is resting on its historic laurels then this is your place.

Jeff B.

Yelp
Holy hell I understand that historic properties are important. But this place is a joke. Between the trains and the price. Do your self a favor and bypass this place. Way over priced. Rooms no parking so get ready to pay an extra 15 bucks a day to the city to stay here. Nothing with in walking distance that is worth going to. So do yourself a favor and drive thru Hood River. And go some where that wants your business not just trying to suck the money out of you.

Yelp
Just finished an overnight stay at the Hood River Hotel. Our last stay was 20 years ago on our honeymoon. We've stayed at other Hood River hotels, and I had made a reservation at one of those properties when my wife reminded me of her desire to spend a night at the Hood River Hotel for old time's sake. I cancelled the other reservation and booked a room for $30 more. I approached the stay fully understanding that the bygone-era charm of the place comes with some compromises in terms of room layout, etc. What we weren't prepared for was a stained carpet, including what appeared to be dog urine running down the wall and onto the carpet. The bathroom sink drained so poorly we used the tub faucet instead. When we arrived, a wedding party was in full swing on the lower level. After returning from dinner at a pleasant restaurant across the street, the party continued. Even though we were on the third floor, the sound system's bass notes were felt and heard in our room. The information card we were given included a rather punitive paragraph threatening the expulsion of anyone violating the 10 pm to 8 am "quiet time," yet the party continued until 11 pm. A bit later, we heard loud chatter in the hall as party goers returned to their rooms. But then things quieted down. The hotel's close proximity to shops and eating places is great. The lobby is inviting with comfortable seating and a fireplace. But even with these amenities, last night's stay will be our last.

Yelp
Expensive, crowded and rooms are noisy. Tile was dirty in bathroom. Tv remote broken. Choose something else. Parking is 15 a day extra.

Bruce D.

Yelp
Stayed there 4/16-17; surly desk clerk, no phone in room, dingy shower, late night noise outside, no coffee in room, 2 soda cans of a terrible pino noir ($14.00@!!), & no complimentary parking or reimbursement for "park wherever you can". Will never return or recommend.

Yelp
A destination wedding brought us to this northern Oregon town and hotel. Like others have stated, there is a 3-night minimum stay on the weekend, so we basically paid for an extra night we didn't need as we were en route from Maui. September weekend rates were $160 - $186/night not including taxes. LOCATION: Situated near the Columbia River that separates the states of Oregon and Washington, this National Register of Historic Places hotel is surrounded by the small town of Hood River. The area has a nice amount of eateries, small shops and several breweries, yet no convenience store within walking distance. PARKING: Guests are given passes to park at the Mt. Hood Railroad Station at the corner of Cascade & 1st, a short walk downhill from the hotel. $10/day. ATMOSPHERE: Built in 1912 and restored in 1989, it exudes charm at every corner, including an elevator with a manually-sliding brass cage door. The lobby doubles as the hotel's lounge with fireplace and Nordic cuisine Broder Øst restaurant (reviewed separately). Being just 3 levels high, we utilized the stairs a lot. CHECK IN: The gentleman who assisted us was friendly and informative. There is no bell service but a luggage cart is available for use. Trying to hold open the elevator's manually sliding doors and getting the cart in and out was a challenge. No-fail metallic keys were issued. ROOM 318: The charm continued with creaky wood flooring, layers of paint everywhere, high ceilings and no view. The queen bed was pretty comfortable as were the pillows. Central a/c was present but there wasn't a thermostat in the room yet the temperature stayed comfortable. The basin was located in the bedroom as there was no room in the bathroom for it. You're out of luck if you need closet space, a safe or an iron & board. Wi-Fi was free but I didn't use it. The ambiance was peaceful sans for the morning movement of other guests in the hallway. Why is the bathroom so small? A sign above the toilet stated that the current bathroom used to be the closet. The (probably communal) toilet and tub used to be down the hallway. The shower was clean with plenty of hot water, medium water pressure and quick drain. The usual bath amenities were available including a hairdryer. HOUSEKEEPING: I guess we were supposed to hang the "service requested" sign which we learned later was on the other side of the "do not disturb" sign as no one came to clean the room. Staff weren't friendly as they didn't acknowledge us in the hallways. Because we didn't receive a cleaning, I went to the front desk to ask for fresh wash cloths and bath towels. The guy working said he'd bring it up in about 15 minutes, which he did but no wash cloths were brought. Ugh! CHECK OUT: No line at 4:30am, LOL. The gal was friendly and professional. TIP: Ride shares and taxis can probably drop you off here but don't expect to find a ride out. So, rent a car! OVERALL: Decent rooms and stay.

Yelp
Just finished an overnight stay for a quick getaway. Absolutely relaxing in a beautiful historical building. Since the town closes up pretty early, especially on Mondays, it was so great to just grab some card games and head down to the lounge with our own snacks and local cider. The room was so cozy and had excellent ac. Front desk was so kind and helpful throughout. Loved having a full kitchen available so we were able to save some $$ dining out. Also great free coffee in the lobby. Only cons: no bathtub, parking is down the hill and kind of inconvenient. But I would definitely stay again.

Christ F.

Yelp
Amazing staff, the decor is so authentic and welcoming. Our room was cozy and warm, the landline phones in the rooms are authentic vintage ones. The free apples everywhere are a great touch!

Angie G.

Yelp
We've stayed here a number of times and most recently hosted our rehearsal dinner & welcome drinks event the night before our May wedding, as well as had our room block here and after party. Everything was perfect. Everyone who works here and the bartender for our event were beyond sweet, friendly, and professional. It's the perfect location for guests coming into town for a wedding. The Columbia River Suite and bunk house were also perfect for getting ready and hanging with friends after the wedding, and prime location for late night dominoes delivery We love this spot and is the only spot we'll stay in Hood River!! Our dog loves it too.

Jeffrey O.

Yelp
We have been to Hood River twice to run in a race there: the Columbia Gorge Marathon. Both times we stayed in this hotel and we probably will when we run that race again. Staying here you are in walking distance of the starting line and the course actually runs right past the hotel. If you want, you can park your car for the weekend and never drive it again until you leave. While you can walk to all the quaint downtown shops, you're also in driving distance of a number of other attractions. The hotel is old and very well maintained. If you're looking for a 5-star luxurious hotel, this isn't the place for you. Not that it isn't nice, it is very nice. But it just has older doors, furnishings, and the like. We like that, and we enjoy this hotel. The staff are always quite friendly and very helpful, and always were throughout our stays.

Steve M.

Yelp
Opted for the more expensive suite. Nice room but no maid service. For the price I should not have to go to the front desk to get basic room supplies that should be replaced with daily maid service. Also lots of banging and mechanical noise during the night.

Valerie P.

Yelp
Loved this quaint, old fashioned hotel! Pros: Ideal location downtown Beautiful lobby Quality beverages & snacks available Red & white wine for purchase conveniently located in room Ear plugs included Walking distance to coffee & restaurants Cons: creepy animal heads on the wall River view just okay--you also get a view of the back of a pizza parlor & a parking lot Bathroom is tiny That being said, we would stay here again! Loved it & the service was fantastic!

Eric T.

Yelp
My parents stayed Wednesday. It was my mom's birthday and as usual I didn't get a gift. Called to see if I could get a gift card to the room, Alicia took care of that and left a hand written happy birthday card. They had an amazing breakfast, thank you guys. 6/5. Go Ducks.

Diana G.

Yelp
Pros: Comfy beds (best bed I slept in while in Oregon) Free cofee and tea Great toiletries They have AC and works well. My room did have extra tabs Cons: Super small rooms (think Europe, but maybe smaller) The shower was small. The sink is outside the bathroom in the room The elevator is old school and I was always afraid of getting stuck Not enough plugs This hotels is quirky and fun. If you don't mind the size of the room, then it's a great hotel. It's walking distance to everything. We parked at a meter since it was free at night and we were leaving early. If not, you do have to pay for parking. The registration area is super cute. The elevator is the one that you have to close the gate for it to function. It functioned. As I mentioned above, the rooms were small. It was good for one night, but with two suitcases and two grown adults, I couldn't make it more than that. For those that have trouble sleeping with light, the room door has a window. It does have a curtain, but the light still peaks in. I can't say that I loved the place, but it sure was interesting. Hood River is a beautiful town. Wake up early and enjoy the scen

Wayne F.

Yelp
Surprisingly nice hotel with the warmest greets upon checking in, hotel is very well maintained and in excellent shape. I particularly enjoy the elevator, it's the best shape I've ever seen from the 6/70's still working as of its new. I suspect the wall furnace is still in the working condition but not complied with law to operates with gas in every room. Decorations are well prepare and feel like home. Liquid soup, shampoo uses superior fair trade brand not like typical quantity inn type make ur skin crack, feel very refreshing after each showers! Staffs are almost the most friendly and helpful I've ever seen! Thanks Wade and Mona for the nice greetings! The only down side is the tv size is too small and floor is not too leveled which is perfectly fine since I don't usually spend much time in the room except sleeping. Just remember to sleep early as the city start super early. I will surely come back again!!

Miguel S.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at HRH! This is a beautifully restored, historic hotel in the heart of Hood River with great art & design touches. The staff were exceptionally helpful & kind. This is a place we'll return to often:)

Marshall K.

Yelp
1am is when the noise from the bar stops, in case you were wondering. Otherwise, it's a cute place. The restaurant in the lobby seems super over hyped, my food there was not good.

Amanda R.

Yelp
Very very overpriced! Rooms are soooo tiny! Don't stay here if you like to have your stuff organized, be able to move around freely, watch tv, have good lighting or see yourself in a mirror! The rooms are sooooo tiny! The pictures they have posted on hotels.com make the rooms seem decent sized & luxurious. THIS IS FALSE ADVERTISING! We originally were booked into room 318 -- no closet, barely any room to walk around the bed, hair on the counters & the sink for the bathroom was in the main room. It was extremely claustrophobic. Requested a new room (for $50 more you can stay in a slightly less claustrophobic room) -- compared to 318, 325 is giant. But it's really not. 2 double beds cramped into a room that should have a single queen bed (& by other hotel standards would still be much too cramped). The lighting in this place is absolutely horrific, there's a dark entryway with closet that doesn't have a light at all. If you want to watch tv, you will be sorely disappointed -- a laptop would be about the same size as the tiny tv they chose to mount on the wall. Oh & if you like to see yourself while getting dressed or if you do makeup, this room is awful. They chose to put up some ugly handwritten art in a spot that could've easily held a floor length mirror. The mirror in the bathroom is so high up that you need to be at lease 5'6" to see part of your face. The beds are so cramped into this room that the door to the bathroom doesn't even fully open -- couldn't imagine having 4 people in this room. Could barely barely BARELY even slightly function for 2. My conclusion is that the business owners care only about the $$ their guests pay & not their experience while staying here. This room in particular, with better lighting, a floor length mirror, larger tv & the removal of one of the beds would create a much more satisfactory guest experience.

Amy F.

Yelp
DIRT, DANGER AND DEATH: Your stay will begin with the information that for $10 a day you can park in a lot down a steep hill, by the railroad tracks, hidden by trees and brush, and unlighted, a perfect spot for everything from car prowlers to serial killers. There is a huge dead animal head in the lobby and more heads over the staircases. When the elevator starts it makes a terrifying crashing sound. I see that other reviews mention the elevator having been "out of service" a number of times and that it was installed in 1961. In my single queen room there was an enormous disgusting picture over the bed showing a large dead buck and a woman straddling the body, with her rifle pointed down at the dead buck between her spread legs. What kind of people think someone wants to look at this before they go to bed? In the tiny flophouse bathroom I found a thick strip of mold under the rim of the toilet, and an ancient, beat-up toilet seat. The grout in the shower was filthy and there were wide cracks in the shower floor. The rug just outside the bathroom was stained. Worst of all, when the shower floor got wet it was slippery as ice and there wasn't even a grab bar to hold onto. These people don't care enough to take even minor steps such as cleaning the bathroom, caulking cracks, buying a new toilet seat, or installing a grab bar. There was cold air pouring down from a vent in the ceiling (in October). The radiator was cold and the instructions on how to turn it on did not work. I found a space heater in a corner, but given the obvious lack of firewalls and fire-rated doors, the "historic" 110-year-old dry wood in the building, the indifference towards safety and the portrayals of death I had observed that evening, I put the space heater back in the corner and wore my coat to bed.

Yelp
Avoid at all Costs!!!! We checked into the "naked winery" suite last weekend and were absolutely disgusted with the lack Of cleanliness and care of our room. Pictures will Show you multiple spots on the wall where boogers were smeared, long black hair all over the floors and rub, pubic hair on towels, sheets and the toilet lid! In a time where sanitizing and cleanliness is of upmost importance for the health and safety of mankind, this hotel has proved that they do not care and just want to cut corners to make a few bucks. I reached out to the front desk and showed her in person how filthy our room was and told her it needed to be sanitized before we returned for bed at 10 pm. We arrived back at our room and nothing had been touched. I then reached out to management who didn't seem to care much except discount my room. Highly disturbing that this was allowed. There are several other hotels we would Recommend in hood river. The best western is great! So is the west cliff. Honestly the la Quinta we stayed at last time even better! Avoid this hotel unless you are in the mood to catch Covid and take some time off work.

Yelp
My wife and I decided to have a three-day weekend getaway in Hood River and there was an excellent deal at this hotel (three nights for the price of two.) After taxes and the room price, it came out to be a little over $100 a night, which was definitely worth it. However, if I paid full price, I'd be a bit harsher in my grading (my star rating here is what my "true" grade is. I'd say for this particular trip it's four stars.) The best part of this hotel is its location. It is located in Downtown Hood River; adjacent to many great bars, restaurants, wine tasting rooms, breweries and activities. If you like nightlife and sampling alcoholic drinks, this place is perfect. It was also a couple of weeks before Christmas, and the whole street was decorated beautifully. We went Christmas shopping, and there were a lot of shops to check out and deals to be had. Also for good: there was one particular gentleman at the front desk who was very friendly and great the entire time of our stay. The room was also fairly clean; some minor dust and I found some garbage in the room, but it wasn't disgusting. Sheets and comforter were soft, comfortable and clean. Overall bed quality was above average. There is also a sauna in the basement, but I never made use of it (only so much time in three days!) Lots of beverages to buy at the front desk, and there was live music two of the nights we were here along with a roaring fire. Great ambiance and makes it distinctive from just about any other hotel. Now for the bad: On our third night, there were a rowdy group of people on the floor below us that woke us at about 12:30AM. I called the front desk three times before I could get anyone's attention, and when I asked the gentleman to talk to the people he said he'd "try to figure it out and call them." Nothing happened for the next thirty minutes, and I walked downstairs to figure out what was going on and get tums for my now-sour stomach. The front desk guy was on the computer listening to music on his headphones; which makes me wonder if that's why he missed my first two calls, and unlikely even did anything to investigate. Also, the water in the shower would range from scalding hot to ice cold and wasn't consistent at all. Not a major complaint, but if you want a consistently warm shower you'll be disappointed. For me, noise wasn't an issue but I also had the window closed. After reading other reviews, this seems to be more of a problem in summer when you have to open the window. This stay was a mixed bag. I'd definitely return if I got another discount like on this trip, as the convenience and "chic" factor are my favorite parts. The lackadaisical response to a serious noise complaint, and no way to contact them (all emails seem to be directed to front desk, which is what I'm complaining about!) was disappointing, and for the price makes my rating drop significantly.

Yelp
When in Hood River, it doesn't get much better than this retro-cool, vintage-vivacious down-town LO-CATED hip hangout. The front desk welcomed us like royalty and the view from the Columbia River Suite was stunning with a front row seat of Kite and Windsurfing action and river and WA hillside views. Watching the kiters and boarders is a kick and beckoned you outside and into action. Easy walk from downtown to the waterfront and all of the town's breweries certainly quenched our collective thirsts. Did I mention, retro-cool?!?....there was a fully functioning record-player and a collection 2-dozen or so old LP's including Benatar, Presely, The Police and Dylan. The full kitchen was stocked to the gills and the suite was appointed to the nines. Just be nice....this is a historic hotel and nicely remodeled, but it's not new and exudes a vintage vibe sporting cool artwork from yesteryear and enlarged pages from the hotel's historic registers. Be cool or you might find yourself in a future edition of it's pages. The restaurant downstairs is fabulous and the staff treated us to a complimentary bottle of wine for our anniversary. Oh, yah, we will be back!

Natalie B.

Yelp
Its never a good sign when there are earplugs on every pillow when you walk in to your hotel room. My girlfriends and i had a weekend away and spent a largely sleepless night listening to people screaming blood curdling screams, presumably drunk party animals. There was also a lot of yelling, mostly women's voices, and some cackling and loud laughter. One a bright side, the place was dog friendly.. but the relentless yelling put my sweet dog on edge too.. The coffee in the lobby was good.

Sarah S.

Yelp
First time staying for a date night with my husband. Very cute hotel room, Naked Winery themed. Bathroom a tad small but worked for only one night. One suggestion though is the mattress pad on the bed was one of those waterproof ones which made my night of sleep awful. I felt like I was a sweating two year old sleeping on this bed. Those mattress pads definitely need to be changed out. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay and we will be back!!

Jordan M.

Yelp
This is my second time visiting and it has been a wonderful experience so far. Carlos greeted us upon our arrival and provided us with such a warm welcome and with so many local recommendations. We got set up with some wine and seltzer's and have had a very fun and covid appropriate first night in Hood River.

Gracie C.

Yelp
I will not get this lucky again. My husband decided to surprise me on our anniversary and got us a room. At first we were planning on taking our dog and my husband told them that put us down as a maybe. He got a call asking if we had decided to take the doggy and secretly asked me and I told him no. When we got there we were upgraded to the largest room/suite in the hotel. It was amazing! Apparently another guest wanted to bring their dog so they got our original room. It was so great! We still got charged for the regular rate. We had a full living room, extra bedrooms, full kitchen. Goodness! Spoiled! The staff was great, too! The location is convenient. No need for a car. We walked everywhere. ... .. .. . .....

Yelp
The most unique little getaway! Everywhere you look there's something cool to see. Great service. The parking lot is down the road by a railroad track so I'd suggest unloading your bags at the front door or you'll have to drag everything up a hill like we did. Hauling your luggage up the floors is a little tight if you're taking the elevator since it's an old school kind of elevator. Really fun though! The only weird thing is as soon as we were in our room my husband and I both felt really congested all night into the next morning and it went away as soon as we left the room. Still a cool place though. Really comfortable rooms. The walls are very thin though so keep that in mind. I'd recommend it just for the experience!

Yelp
When we travel we like to make where we stay as important as the sights we see. Even though we rarely spend two nights in one place (we are those kind of travelers) we still want it to be memorable. If it's possible, we don't want to stay in just any hotel. We want the hotel experience to be as memorable as every other part of the trip. So, when choosing a hotel for an overnight stay in Hood River Oregon, I was thrilled to find the Historic Hood River Hotel. As soon as we drove up and saw the building, we knew we had made the right choice. It was charming and quaint with a deco looking neon sign. You walk into the lobby, which is warm and welcoming. Walking into our rooms, we fell in love immediately. There were restored hardwood floors through out. The kitchen was charming, with everything you would need. Antiques and modern amenities blended perfectly. The bedroom, with it's old radiator and geraniums in the window box and antique bed, made you feel like you were staying at your favorite grandma's house for the weekend. The view out the window with the mountains and river was just as special as the rooms! Our favorite room was the living room with the large windows. After grabbing dinner out (everything in easy walking distance) we settled on the couch with a bottle of Oregon wine and planned the next days adventures. Our only complaint was that we only booked one night! We would have gladly stayed longer. So warm, inviting and charming!

Yelp
I feel bad for my hubby. He wanted to stay at one of the 2 places we have stayed at before that were less money than this one and offered more, but the pictures for this place are so cute that I love boutique or historical hotels so I talked him into this one-HUGE MISTAKE :-/....Upon check in it was a ghost town for awhile, but when the guy came to counter he was super friendly! The place is really cute and appealing to your senses if you're into architecture, decor, and such. We didn't get to explore the hotel bec our room was right by the desk. Room 104. Entering the room, you see one of those a/c units on wheels with the exhaust out window-not a problem EXCEPT it is noisier than a locomotive at times and we would know bec EVERY 2-3 Hours on the dot a train drives thru. Look out the window and I do believe it's a train station right there! And in the background of that there is another train constantly moving. Every time the wind blew or the train went by, the window rattled insanely!!!! I took a 3 minute video of the LOUD window banging, but YELP isn't letting me upload it...I even shortened it to 30 seconds and still not uploading. I wish you could hear it bec I'm UNDER-EXAGGERATING it!!! The trains, the window, the noisy a/c aren't all that are contending with our sleep, bec the queen bed is so used that it is only comfortable for ONE person. We kept rolling or sliding to the middle and not by choice. Needless to say, neither one of us got any sleep so hubby went to his meeting while I got ready to leave and we were out the door before 9am-by the way we checked in around midnight. Definitely not worth the $169+ a night. Next time we will try The Society Hotel. But in the past we have stayed at Bestwestern Plus and the Columbia Gorge Hotel and we do recommend those 2!!!!! Especially BW Plus.

Yelp
This was cute and had everything i needed for 2 night stay. Really comfy bed. Really cute lobby. I loved that the ice was packaged in baggies. Maybe too pricey for what it is unless you'll pay for 'historic' hotels. Great look decor. Id stay again but am also more interested in airbnb locations because They offer more privacy than hotels do. But this one is right in town and i walked to many breweries, shops, and eateries!

Yelp
The only place to stay in Hood River. This historic hotel is very charming. The accommodations are very comfortable and impeccably clean and the staff is friendly and accommodating. We're staying here now! Having just eaten a giant breakfast at Bette's Place, I couldn't wait to get back to the room and sprawl out on the comfy bed and lush duvet. As I relax, looking out at the Columbia River, I realize, "this is good." Hood River is a great place to chill, and the Hood River Hotel is the place to stay.

Yelp
All I need to say is History! This is a great vintage hotel right in the center of Hood River, OR. We arrived at the hotel and recieved our room key but the room wasn't what we wanted. Went and talked with the GM and she made us happy with in seconds of me bring the issue to her attention. Also great rooms with awesome old time feel. Keep this gem in mind for your next trip!

Yelp
We discovered this place July 4th, 2016, when we just drove up and by chance were given one of the ground floor rooms. These are rooms on the back of the hotel building that enjoy individual entries off the sidewalk. They also give you a great view of the July 4th fireworks Hood River puts on. The stay was a bit pricey, but we enjoyed it so much that we rebooked the same room for July 4th 2017. When July 4th 2017 came, we checked in and were told the room we had reserved had been rented to someone else, so we'd be put on the third floor. We were not happy, but went up to the third floor and found we were in a room with linoleum floors which were wavy and a bathroom that was the size of a broom closet and dated probably from the time of Grover Cleveland. The bed was small and lumpy. The sole window looked out on a view of an interior air shaft. I complained to the manager, who miraculously found out the room we had originally reserved was somehow magically available after all. We stayed there the night and in the morning reserved the same room for July 4th 2018. I checked with the hotel well before July 2018 to confirm the room reservation and was told that we had been upgraded to a "studio suite" on the third floor. I insisted we wanted a ground floor room and after several calls back and forth was told we would be in the room we originally wanted. The night of July 3rd 2018, when we were packed and ready to go to Hood River on the 4th, the hotel called and advised me they were overbooked and we would not be in the room we wanted but in one of their "studio suites." I pointed out that we had a confirmation letter dated in July of 2017 confirming our reservation in one of the ground floor rooms. No amount of argumentation got them to acknowledge our reservation. They expressed regret that they would not be honoring our reservation and offered to try to rectify the matter but it was clear we would be in a third floor room or nothing. We will never stay in this Hotel again. I encourage you to avoid it at all costs. I believe this hotel is practicing "bait and switch." I doubt they even track their actual reservations. The front desk staff are fine but the ownership and management are incompetents at best, liars and con artists at worst.

Yelp
Pros: Free coffee and tea (in the morning - runs out quickly) Very walkable, unbeatable location Lovely lobby Kind staff, so helpful and pleasant Good price considering the location Cons: Yikes - need new cleaning staff. Similar experience to prior guests - I was hoping they'd be wrong - lots of hair, dirt, etc. upon arrival. Looked like the bed had been made but not a single thing else cleaned. The mini-oven in the kitchen was covered in crumbs, it looked like someone had just cooked there. We asked to have it recleaned but the cleaning staff was "gone for the day" at 3pm. Overall, we come to Hood River often but won't be back. Huge chunks of stranger's hair in multiple places is not something I'll pay $140/night for when we can stay at an Airbnb. I hope they can work on this because otherwise, we'd come back in a heartbeat.

Yelp
The hood river hotel is our go to place in Hood River. There is no better base camp for setting up activities in Hood River. It's centrally located walking distance to most bars and restaurants. It has a great view of the river and it's right downtown. The people that run it are fantastic if you get a chance ask for Jedi.He like all the other people that work there will make your experience warm and memorable. So don't go to great destinations and stay in a chain hotel.Check out the Hood River Hotel you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
What a treat! Stayed in Hood River for a night and loved this hotel! They upgraded us for no charge to a huge suite! Amazing! Everything is in walking distance and love the historical old timey feel. Only negatives would be there wasn't a full size mirror in the room, and we had the window open at night and could definitely hear the trains going by-which the room did have ear plugs for it. It wasn't a nuisance for us, but I can see how others would be bothered by it-not the hotel's fault obviously. Breakfast at Broder was delectable! The front desk was super awesome and helpful! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
This was a beautiful vintage hotel. My wife and I stayed in one of their suites. Upon arrival we realized we were not provided with a room with a bath tub. I spoke with the front desk and as they were booked they couldn't correct the error until the following day. But he was polite and helpful. The following day we moved into one of their suites with a living room and kitchen and I paid the difference. Upon checking out housekeeping was extremely rude to my wife. But we loved the hotel so much so much I let it go. I called to book again last month and was told I was no longer allowed to stay there after spending nearly $600 on my last visit sighting the safety of their staff. As there was no incident with the staff this was alarming. I believe we were racially profiled. If you African American, I would avoid this hotel sadly.

Yelp
I wish I could give more than 5 stars! This was a last minute stay-cation (of sorts) and it was perfect. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and the room was cozy and just as I had imagined. My fiancé and I looked into the event space downstairs and we want to have our reception there! Highly recommend this hotel.

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel a few years back and loved it. Unfortunately, my experience today left an extremely sour taste in my mouth that will keep me from returning. I called in with the hopes of booking a few rooms and was very disappointed with the service I received in return. I was inquiring about booking 3 rooms for a 2 night stay over the weekend ( Friday and Saturday night ) and was told that was "impossible" because they require 3 nights to be stayed on minimum on weekends. 3 nights? As part of the working class who has a job to be at on Monday morning I find this frustrating. I get that its the tail end of "peak season" . But forcing your customers into quadruple digits to penny pinch just takes away from the glamor of this hotel. I booked a stay at the Columbia Gorge Hotel for less, ( a historical hotel on the water who could care less how many consecutive nights my family stayed ). Everyone has a right to run their business how they see fit, that being said I wonder how much business you loose from this policy.

Yelp
The lobby is beautiful, very comfortable to relax by the fire with a drink. The staff was fine, we had limited interactions. We got into our room an hour early, which was great! I thought i splurged in getting a suite for the night - the exterior entrance was convenient but it opened directly to the side walk. The interior carpet was stained and the couch was uncomfortable. With a ground floor room you can't open the curtains unless you enjoy a fish bowl experience. The location was very convenient to some great stores and restaurants. Though the street traffic was loud and the train tracks were less than a block away, it was very quiet at night (went in early November). The bed was extremely comfortable. I don't imagine staying here again but it was worth a shot for the history of the building.

Yelp
The hotel is very nice and in a great location but, we were charged 15 dollars for getting a small amount of pizza sauce on a white towel. Seemed a little unreasonable to me. I'll stay here again but, I guess bring my own towels next time.

Yelp
I stayed here on a special weekend with my fiancee. We wanted to treat ourselves to a local Oregon vacation and neither of us had been to Hood River before. We checked in and a woman with red and black hair helped us. She was the only good part of the entire weekend! She answered all of our dumb questions about Hood River. When we realized we forgot our phone chargers, she let us use her personal one! THAT is good service. Unfortunately the rest of the stay was miserable. All of the other staff were rude and acted like we were bothersome for being there. Our shower either had freezing cold water or boiling water. It was impossible to bathe because there was no tepid water. The rude staff just shrugged and told us to deal with it. Also whats up with the extremely loud train honking at all hours of the night???? Why stay at a hotel when you can't even sleep?

Yelp
The rooms looked lovely on the site, however the room I received was nothing like what was pictured. I requested a room with 2 double beds and received one queen in bedroom and a rollaway bed in the closet. The room was old and musty and dark. It was clean, however. Great location...just not updated, and it was expensive.

Yelp
Rarely do I suggest not staying somewhere but you can't imagine this room being any worse!!! After making the reservation on Hotel Tonight, I called the hotel to make sure they had a pet friendly room. Yes, all rooms are pet friendly- perfect. Do I have a room with a view? No, but it overlooks the roof top garden. OK. It's only for one night. We get here and the huge window overlooks a wall of fence, nothing looks like vegetation of any sort. It's boiling in the room and there is no heat control so we open the window the 4 inches it opens. It's hot enough when we go to bed to take the huge comforter off the bed. Sometime during the night they turn off the radiator so we put a small blanket on us. Not bad until 7 am when what is behind the fence outside the room???? The condenser for the restaurant comes blaring on scared the bee geez out of us. Sleep? Not really! It's a super cute ancient hotel but falsely telling me this was looking over a roof top garden ruined the stay. Obviously I wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
I stay here pretty regularly. Only stay here if you like local/historic charm. The staff is a little slow, a little disorganized, the rooms are small, beds not that comfortable, poor sound attenuation, no A/C. But, on the upside, the staff are really helpful, you're right in the heart of HR, there's a sauna and a hot tub, they have parking passes for street parking you can buy (and not have to feed the meter constantly), the decor is olde timey. I usually don't like this kind of place because I suspect it will smell funny, or the water won't get warm, or ... and I like my modern amenities. But somehow it has won me over.

Yelp
The location is a plus being right in town next to shopping if one does not have a car. If you do bring a car though the hotel does not have its own dedicated lot and you can only park on side streets for a $7 meter voucher ($1/hour at meters, so my wife and I overpaid for street meters with the voucher). The rooms at this hotel are very drab. Not a lick of any artwork on the walls and the flooring needed replacing decades ago. Don't give me an excuse that the hotel is too old to renovate and repair the floors. There are tons of historic hotels that renovated inside of historic regulations. Wearing ear plugs helps though but the hardwood flooring in our room was terribly warped. Whenever someone walked inside the hallways the whole floor creaked loudly. Shower pressure was decent and bed was comfortable though. Overall the amount paid for the room seemed way overpriced. One of the most expensive rooms during our Oregon road trip and yet the most in need of repairs. We also had a kitchen in our room which wasn't utilized but seemed adequate for people who needed to cook in for the night. Checkin clerk was kinda snobby during our arrival. Checkout clerk was more pleasant. We did not utilize the breakfast only restaurant.
