If you are looking for a Philly Cheesesteak in Austin, you really need to make a pilgrimage to Round Rock and check out Hoody's Subs. Yes, they have the right rolls. Yes, they use real ribeye steaks. Yes, they have grilled onion and peppers, mushrooms too if that's your thing. Yes, they have wiz, provolone, and America cheese. It may not have come from Henry Street in the City of Brotherly Love, but Hoody's is the real deal. If you go between 11:30 am - 1:00 pm, be prepared for a wait in line, and yes, the line can be 20-30 deep. It's worth the wait. I like to get mayo on my cheese steak, and they have this sweet pepper relish that is really tasty. For my latest visit, I had the small Cheesesteak ($7.75 Large is $15.50). I wanted to also try their Italian sub, which is served cold (Small $7.50 Large $15.00) The Cheesesteak was perfect. It is so nice to taste one that is made properly. The Italian, meh. Not my thing. In full disclosure, I went to Hoody's a day after visiting Home Slice Pizza in Austin, which has the best Italian Hoagie in the city. My friend from Philly likes the Meatball Sub and the Grilled Chicken Sub (Both are Small $7.75 Large $15.50). They also have another Philly treat there, Tastykakes. Perfect as a side along with chips. If you haven't been there, make the trip. You can thank me later.

I HAVE NO WORDS ON HOW GOOD MY PHILLY CHEESE STEAK WAS FROM HERE! Tucked away in a small plaza. Non discreet. Only time they open on Sunday is for the SUPER BOWL! So I lucked out. The owner Hoody is from the Northeast and knows a little something about Cheese Steak 🥩. This is the best I have had in Texas! Don’t even try the franchise Sub Shops. I already did and they ain’t even close to this Iconic local owned Sub shop. COME HERE! Just Come here.

I can’t believe we waited so long to go here. After hearing about it from several of our friends and coworkers, we finally decided to try it. Although it’s a little of a drive for us, it was so worth it, as we were overall so impressed! It’s not a fancy sub shop, just very casual, but clean and the customer service was great! The walls are decked out in old sports memorabilia, which was nostalgic. Onto the delicious subs…I had the Cajun turkey with all the toppings and my husband had the Italian. They were both delicious. We will definitely be back!

Hoody's is essentially an Austin staple at this point and it is well deserving of the reputation it has. Great service, great prices, and a simple but very high-quality menu. I've been a few times but I've been most impressed by their meatball sub. Delicious flavor in the meat and the bread has a fantastic chewy texture. Really everything on the menu is great, and portions are generous for the price. Each day they have a deal on a particular sub, and so the final price is of your whole meal is even more affordable than it already is! They also have Dirty brand potato chips, which are hard to find and I HIGHLY recommend trying them if you haven't yet. You really can't go wrong with Hoody's when you're in the mood for a sub sandwich. I really want to highlight that your money goes FAR when you come here. Stop by when you're in the neighborhood!

This place has amazing staff and really good food with generous amounts of it !! It was very delicious , and it is worth coming back for more !

This place was hoppin’ today for lunch! Solid sandwiches. I ordered the large Italian because it was recommended by someone I follow on Instagram. I should’ve realized that a large order is a huge sandwich. That being said, I was hungry and could’ve eaten it all if I didn’t share some of it with my friends. My two friends shared a large Philly cheesesteak which is their most popular. Good stuff, but I need to ask if the restaurant does a Cheez Whiz version.

This sub-shop is great. You get large subs that are juicy with flavors & hot...It's quaint & fun. Its subs are like a mix of Texas & NY sandwiches. They have cold ones as well. Enjoy. Will add more pics later.

Hoody's came up on a conversation about subs and someone I knew swore by this place. Welp. All I can say is the subs here are badass! The Philly cheesesteak is legendary. It's just so packed with flavor with the peppers giving it a slight kick that makes this perfect in every way. Just absolutely delicious til the very last bite. I also got the chicken cheesesteak which I think is pretty good but it just doesn't taste as good as the Philly. The interior here seems like it's got a lot of history with all kinds of photos and memorabilia which gives it so much character. Service is fast and excellent. I'd like to come back and try their turkey and meatball subs. Will report back!

It's a sandwich shop, go in place order and either take a seat on the bench or take the food home. I opted for the latter as it was jam packed. I ordered half Philly add pickles and half meatball. At first sight the Philly was too light on the meat and seemed to be mostly bread but the taste/flavor was great. The meatball sandwich had the right amount of balls and cheese but wasn't as flavorful. I'd definitely come back but maybe ask for extra meat on the Philly.

If you cant make it to Philadelphia, then go to the best thing ever left Philadelphia... Hoodys!! Absolutely the most wonder philly cheesesteak hoagie you will ever experience. The meatball is amazing, the entire menu is amazing... but the Philly is a must!! Dont go rogue and get it without the peppers...youll be missing out. The Gents in there are great... nit much for conversation but its ok cause they get the food out quick.. So yes, the service is counter service, but c'mon, youre not at Steiners. Its a definitely a sub shop not a romantic hangout, so eat your hoagie and go. :) Youll live this place

The vibes here are great; you can tell it's a well loved establishment. The people here are super nice. The guy who took our order was young and had longer hair and he was super friendly. We got the daily special of the chicken cheesesteak. Maybe not the best order for me personally because I just wasn't a fan of the way the chicken was prepared but I could tell this place has great potential. The hot peppers were actually spicy. They have a little discount for cash so bring that! They realized we were splitting a large (which is definitely wayyyy enough to split btw) and were super kind enough to split it into two baskets for us. Service is epic!

Hoody's is still the Cheesesteak King. It's ready when you get there and good every time. The other Sandwich shops that say they serve Cheesesteaks....don't.

This is my second time here and it's always been on point. Top quality meats and very fast service. Definitely a top go to place if you're in town and craving for sandos!!!

they don't know how to follow directions, especially when you no and they still put some kind of nasty tomato thing on there. The service was rushed probably one of the nastiest sub shops here in round rock Texas.

Hoody's had the best philly. Not today. I knew immediately something was wrong. The meat was too pale, maybe not cooked long enough. Then, i realized it was mostly onions. What a disappointment. It was super busy so maybe they were in a rush. I'm not sure if I'll go back.

Great service, and the price is very reasonable. We ordered the Philly cheesesteak and the chicken cheesesteak--I preferred the steak. The sub was juicy and flavorful. The chili was not too spicy and had a slight tanginess, which added a nice kick. The store has a retro vibe. The chairs aren't exactly comfortable but are fine for a quick dine-in. I'll definitely come back to try other items.

We love this place! Just a little ol' sandwich shop with great customer service and friendly staff! It's a small joint but worth the wait! Always on point with food! We always take our out of town guests here for the best sandwiches!

WOW! One of the best hot sub places I've tried in the area, and we can't wait to go back! Their subs were still hot and fresh after bringing them home (to go order). Packed with all the fixins and all the flavors, all of them really packed a punch of flavor! Customer service was friendly, professional and helpful while the atmosphere of the place was clean and simple. Plenty of parking but many of the spaces up front were VERY SLIM compact. Located in a plaza with various other food places, but has a safe and clean vibe.

Came here for the first time with some coworkers and oh my gosh our food was yummy! I got the Philly cheesesteak and the meat and peppers had such good flavor to them. The restaurant was small but so cute and had such a wholesome vibe. This place has been around for a long time so there are a ton of cute pictures on the wall that display some history of the shop. My only complaint is that I thought the prices were a little high for the portions they give you and service was a little slow but it was still very worth it. I will definitely be back!

If you like subs and baseball, check this place out. You order at the counter and they call you up when your food is ready. They have a decent amount of seating and all baseball related pictures on the wall. The subs themselves are delicious. They also have daily specials on their subs for a better deal. I got the special and chicken cheesesteak and both were packed with meat and toppings. I wish the chicken was cubed vs ground but that's my preference. I also prefer their hot subs but they are all good. The large size is huge btw and can definitely be for 2 meals. They are located in a strip mall so plenty of parking!

I was never a big fan of the Philly Cheesesteak, and that still hasn't changed after eating here, but it was still one of the best Philly Cheesesteaks I've had before. I'm sure purists will say that adding sweet peppers is a no-no, but for me, it's a must. A Philly just doesn't have enough variety of flavors for me to enjoy, but the sweet pepper relish gave it that extra oomph it really needed. The Italian sandwich was very good as well, but this place isn't known for this type of sandwich and I've had better in Austin.

Wowsers! Probably the best sandwiches I've had in my life. No wonder this place was packed on a weekday at 11 am. They know what they're doing and it shows. We had a small capicola sandwich and a large Philly cheesesteak. Both were delicious! Those sweet peppers might be magical. Service was fast and good. Can't wait to bring my East coast friends here for a treat.

In a town with so much disappointing food this is a welcome change. It's hard to believe but the best cheesesteak in the country might just be in Round Rock. As a native NYet who has spent plenty of time in Philly it is a shock but I give credit where it is due. Ribeye (not sirloin) fresh cut onions and quality provolone on a quality roll and there you have it! No sauce or anything else necessary, it's a work of art, splendid in it's simplicity. Just one note...it might be time for a bigger grill!

Great sandwiches, I usually get the Pastrami, it is all great ingredients, very yummy. You definately get what you pay for here. They have indoor seating or take out, and the place is usually busy.

I tried the cheesesteak with everything and a side of voodoo chips! it was not bad but the meat to use more flavor or seasoning. I ordered on the phone and came for pick up. It was very crowded when I first entered. There's a great family and sports vibe to this place. My food was ready fast. It came out to about $20 ish.

The subs are split on the menu by hot subs and cold subs (deli meats are Boar), and you can add chips and fountain or bottled drink to your order. Lunch specials throughout the week! QUICK FACTS: - Parking? Yes, located in a small shopping center. - To-go orders? Yes. - Lunch specials? Yes. - Indoor seating? Yes, but it's small and gets packed quickly. FOOD RATINGS: - Italian sub (3.5/5): Good but have had better. Generous portion and fresh deli meats. - Philly cheesesteak (5/5): Really great flavor! Comes with mushrooms, onions, peppers, and cheese. I ordered extra cheese and it was delicious. Made-to-order so it came out hot and juicy. The small was perfect with chips and a drink.

I've only had their large Philly cheesesteak with everything. It was flavorful but a little spicy for me. The bread was also very fresh. I ordered a drink, but I forgot to take it out of the fridge on my way out. I think it's because I waited so long for my order, that I forgot all about it. They also didn't give me a receipt, and didn't say anything about it, so I feel that probably would've helped me remember as well. Staff are courteous, but straight to the point. Not necessarily friendly. They seem very busy. Lots of seating available, lots of baseball photos and memorabilia on the walls.

This is a must try for anyone in the area! Definitely has a sandwich shop feel. Order at the counter and wait to be called. The minute you walk into this shop the delicious smell hits you and you know you are in for a real treat!! The service is friendly and food is delivered quick! The sandwiches are absolutely delicious! Good vegetarian option as well. If you are in the area it's a must try!

Phenomenal meatball sub! The best I've had since I left NYC! I was skeptical at first but I was not disappointed. Great spices on the meatball and the bread is perfect. You won't be disappointed

Hoody's is definitely a place you don't want to miss!!! The staff is so friendly and the food is soooo delicious! We call in our order for pickup as their seating is limited and they are normally pretty busy and once you get a taste of their food you'll know why!!! The Italian hot sausage sub is the best I've ever had!! Portion size is huge!!! Have also tried their Philly Cheesesteak (best ever and I've been to Philly for cheesesteak) which puts any other sub I've had to shame!! If you are looking for exceptional customer service and the best tasting sub ever...you have to try Hoody's..they NEVER disappoint!!!!

Philly cheesesteak was by far the winner here. Meatball sub was still good, but had a lot of sauce. The bread it was served on was perfect. Will be back for another Philly cheese steak. Service was quick, it was clean and a good hole in the wall sandwich shop.

The locals know Hoody's is the only place to get your official Philly cheesesteak. Prompt and friendly service with loyal staff and a selection that will not let you leave hungry. Hoody even brings in tasty cakes, which used to be regional only until they started adding preservatives. This is a must stop the next time you visit the rock.

Whenever I'm near Round Rock and want a sub I go to Hoody's. In my opinion they have the best tuna sub I've ever had! I add cheese, spicy n regular peppers to mine. I usually get the 12 inch and you definitely won't be able to finish. I usually 3/4 of it with a bag of chips. Still unnecessary but who doesn't like chips with their subs.

You can tell someone's a local or not in Round Rock if they know Hoody's. Place is an institution. Famous for the Cheese Steak (which I advise you get with extra cheese and peppers), the meatball sub is no slouch either. Proudly serving Boar's head meat and Tastykake They have daily lunch specials, which knocks about .50 cents off the sandwiches. Thursday is the cheesesteak day, which makes it packed. They do take call ahead orders, and that's recommended if you're not showing up early, as seating is limited.

The food here is great! The ingredients are always fresh and well seasoned! The chopped up peppers are awesome! I love how small and flavorful they are. I've never had a sandwich from here I didn't like! The dining room is a little small, but well maintained. The staff is very friendly and courteous and the service is fast. I love eating here! Let me start this review out with saying that I am originally from Philadelphia Area and Cheesesteaks are one thing that I truly enjoy as a comfort food. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak without Mushrooms. The steak was flavorful, not exactly like Philly (seasoning wise, could've been seasoned more) but it was good. The onions and peppers were good and sautéed perfectly. The hot chopped peppers added to the sandwich were good, a good touch. Honestly I would've added more of those. The bread was a tiny bit soggy and didn't have that put on the grill to toast/take in some of those flavors taste. The bread also was not similar to the bread that I'm used to from Philly. Amoroso rolls are what is used in Philly, the bread can make or break a cheesesteak and I felt as if that was one of the only things holding it back. I would overall rate the cheesesteak a 4/5. The owner was incredibly nice and I would definitely love to try the place again!

I had heard so much about this place I had to try it. I a good sandwich (subs are sandwiches, right?). The shop is very small so take out is a better choice. Meat-lovers will probably be more likely to like this place than vegetarians (my vegetarian sub was bland and very soggy). Service was ok, for such a busy place but could be improved.
