18 Best Myrtle Beach Restaurants to Try | Eater Carolinas

"Hook & Barrel is the place to go if you are feeling splurgy. The upscale, nautical-themed dining room serves seafood towers, crab-stuffed flounder, braised short ribs, and wedge salads. For a taste of the restaurant on a budget, stop by for happy hour (4 p.m. to 6 p.m.) for $5 well drinks, $7 shrimp cocktail, and $6 BLT sliders." - Ashley Daniels

We had such a wonderful dinner at Hook & Barrel! We started with the house lavash bread and pimento cheese — they even brought out a special gluten-free toast for me, which I really appreciated. The gluten-free fish bites were baked and perfectly seasoned, paired with a creamy mustard dipping sauce that was addicting. The garlic white wine mussels were steamed to perfection! Preston ordered the ginger pear martini — very sweet and easy to drink. For entrées, the fresh catch of the day was a whole rainbow trout, beautifully filleted and served over a rich cashew cream sauce. I added a side of saffron and date rice, which was full of flavor and complemented the fish perfectly. Preston got the crab cakes with Brussels sprouts and creamed cauliflower — the crab cake was gluten-free (a rare and delightful treat for me!) and absolutely delicious. I also loved that the menu clearly marked which dishes could be made gluten-free — it made ordering so easy and stress-free. Everything was excellent from start to finish. Joe, Saddona, and Adam took amazing care of us and made the whole experience feel special. We’ll definitely be back!

First, make a reservation! Monday night was slam-packed-full! But reservation was perfect, right on time, and seating was less than a minute after checking in. Despite the sheer volume of guests dining, the service was quick, efficient, and attentive. Starters were fish bites and Oysters Heidi. The fish was done nicely and the dipping sauce was perfect with just the right amount of spice. Oysters were very good and ended our starting round pleasantly. A tray with a type of Pimento cheese and seasoned crackers bridged the gap between start and entrée while encouraging community and communication. Entrées were the seafood pasta and the seared scallops. Pasta was plentiful and full enough of seafood that you didn't feel you were missing anything. The scallops were good... but flavor didn't seem to be as developed as others I have had. Maybe the sear was just off? Still a great dish, obviously, when that's the only thing you can say felt different for others! We declined dessert, and yet there appeared a small celebration cake! Apparently someone had told them there was a birthday... Our next visit to Myrtle Beach will certainly include a dinner here again!

Today my husband took me to Hook & Barrel for my Birthday. We live in Brunswick County NC but have passed by and have always wanted to try this place. OMG it was absolutely amazing!! It is such an upscale restaurant. Our server Tiannamarie was awesome. She was so helpful and was so attentive. The food was so delicious and totally high end. I can't wait to go back. If you haven't gone yet you have to go immediately. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

Google
This was a very pleasant experience for our group. We made reservations for a group of ten. When we arrived, we were seated promptly. Our server was on top of everything and very knowledgeable of the menu items. She took our drink order and brought them out quickly, along with Pimento Cheese and Crackers. There are great options for starters. Our table shared Shrimp Ceviche, BLT Sliders, Flatbread, Bomber Shrimp, Cheese and Charcuterie, and Fish Bites…all of which were good. The main courses we chose were all delicious. My personal choice were the Crab Cakes, with garlic mashed potatoes and amazing brussel sprouts, while my wife got the Crab-stuffed Flounder. I highly recommend the flounder. Others in our group had dishes of Roasted Chicken Breast, Coastal Ribeye, and Crab Lump soup. All reports were positive, with the exception of the macaroni and cheese side dish, which lacked flavor. I tasted it and agree it was bland. When it came time for desserts, we were really in for a treat…pun intended. The Pumpkin Cheesecake was my favorite. I love cheesecake and had never had that flavor. The Pineapple Bread Pudding was also excellent, but I also love pineapple. The Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake and the Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet were both a hit with our group, as well. Overall, everyone was satisfied with the service and food, leaving very happy. The atmosphere was very nice, and we were very comfortable. It feels like an upscale restaurant and the experience we had matches that. Great service and great food!

Google

Staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions for where to go in the area. Atmosphere inside is awesome, loved everything about this place. Can't say it enough, you need to come to this place! Need to get the fish bites and rhe candied bacon, yum!

Google
Great atmosphere and amazing food! We had she crab soup, fish bites and the seafood tower. Everything was very fresh and delicious! We were in the mood for a seafood tower and found the perfect place! They even gave us a free dessert for our anniversary!

Google
We visited while on vacation and had a truly wonderful experience! I had the blackened salmon, and my partner got the braised beef short ribs—both were absolutely delicious and incredibly fresh. We also got drinks and shared the fish bites, which were amazing. The complimentary pimento cheese was a fun and tasty surprise! Our server, Shelby, was super friendly and attentive. We didn’t have a reservation but were seated right away around 4 PM (though it was getting busy when we left, so reservations are probably a good idea). We were sat in the wine room, which was quiet and cozy, and the overall atmosphere was so unique. Highly recommend!

Google
This place was recommend to us for a must try while down in Myrtle Beach and I have to say it didn’t disappoint. Service was exceptional and all the staff was polite and helpful. We each started off with salads and they were great. They give you a complimentary pimento cheese and cracker board, which was excellent. I did the stuffed flounder with crab and it was delicious. If you’re in the area I highly recommend it as well.

Yelp
One of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time! Excellent atmosphere, professional and friendly staff. Our server, Michael, did such an amazing job reviewing and making recommendations from the menu. I have already recommended to numerous people and can't wait to visit SC again to try the remaining items in the menu. This restaurant will be successful for a very long time. Thank you for making it such an enjoyable experience.

Yelp
The service was fantastic. Our server, Rhonda, was very knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and professional. The exterior and porch are charming, and the interior is beautiful with unique decor. We sat in the wine room off to the size which was cozy and intimate. They start you with complimentary pimento cheese and homemade crackers which were great. We had the fish bites and she crab soup which were both very good. They actually split up the soup into three bowls for us which was really above and beyond accommodating. Our entrees were crab stuffed flounder, braised short ribs, and the grilled catch of the day. All were very good. The coconut pineapple rice and peach chutney with the catch of the day was delicious. Great presentation for entrees. For desserts we had key lime pie, pecan pie, and bunt cake. All were fantastic. Cocktails and mocktails were solid as well. The only things we didn't love were the asparagus- not bad but just average- and the plates were like fancy plastic. All of the other serving ware was very nice, but for such an expensive meal, real plates would be nice. Overall, this was fantastic and a great choice if you're looking for something more upscale in MB

Yelp
Five stars for Hook & Barrel! We had a fantastic dinner here last night. The menu is creative and well-executed, the atmosphere is warm and inviting -- but what really sets this place apart is the exceptional service. Every staff member was attentive and went out of their way to make our evening special. A special shoutout to our server, Daquon, who was outstanding -- professional, friendly, and on top of every detail. He made the experience not truly enjoyable. We'll be back every time we visit Myrtle Beach. Highly recommend!

Yelp
My husband and I walked up on a Thursday evening without a reservation and were pleasantly surprised that we were able to immediately be sat. We were offered either the raw bar or the main bar. We'd never been to Hook and Barrel, but loved sitting at the raw bar at other seafood restaurants (my husband was a bartender at a raw bar for 10+ years) and we loved being able to interact with the raw bartenders. We were sort of surprised at the wall that rose far above the low bar seating at the raw bar. It was going to offer the experience we hoped for, so my husband asked could we be moved to the main bar. They quickly accommodated the change, which we were grateful for! We had a few different servers at the bar who were friendly, informative, and attentive. I love that you get palmetto cheese immediately when you're served. We had a couple of mixed drinks and ended up having a low tide of the Prosecco to finish. It was delicious! The female bartender suggested the fish bites which were fantastic. Not too much breading and cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the mussels, which I despise in general so I can't vouch for them, but he said they were amazing! Overall an amazing experience and we will absolutely be back!

Yelp
This restaurant is very fun, busy and loud. We made reservations so we didn't have to wait long. The drinks were delicious, the food not so much. I got the blackened salmon, and it was very dry and tasteless. I tried to get extra mango salsa to help, but it didn't. My husband had Brussels sprouts and they were not good either. We did have the fancy bourbon bacon for an appetizer, and that was amazing! Overall - it's a very expensive place to eat that isn't very tasty.

Yelp
Myrtle Beach is really upping its dining game and we've come a long way since vacationing as a kid. This is one of those game changing additions. I'm so happy I finally got to try this place! It's been on my list for years and it did not disappoint. First things first, definitely make a reservation. It was slam packed on Monday night, but well worth the wait. You can walk up to the bar and order a drink to take outside while you wait, but must consult the host stand for bar seating. The outside area is so cozy and cute, with swings and fire pits. I started with the Old Fashioned. The candied bacon set this off wonderfully! I also had a Peach Bourbon Smash and highly recommend! It wasn't too sweet and the fresh peaches were a welcomed treat. My friend and I split the She Crab soup. It's the best I've ever had! So fresh, well seasoned and the delicious bits of crab were lovely. We also split the Burrata salad and Crab Stuffed Flounder. 10/10 no notes! I really enjoyed the guajillo bisque, it was a unique addition to a traditional plate. My other friend had the fish bites and those were outstanding. The fresh flaky fish, light breading, and hints of spice then dipped in the remoulade. Chef's kiss. Our waitress, Kim, was amazing! She made great recommendations and was a joy to talk to. I talked her ears off and she didn't seem annoyed despite being busy! Like I told Kim, I can't wait to come back and try more dishes! A must try when in Myrtle Beach. Keep upping your dining game, MB!

Yelp
Hook & Barrel is a seafood restaurant located on N Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach. They are open Mon - Thu 4PM - 9PM and Fri - Sat 4PM - 9:30PM. I promised myself I'd finally try oysters this week, so here we are! They're served with cocktail sauce, horseradish, and lemon. My first experience wasn't bad. The oysters were definitely fresh, but I can't say that I love them. Next, I had the shrimp ceviche, bourbon bacon, and she-crab soup. The ceviche was light and refreshing, and the bacon was thick-cut with a rich, sweet glaze. The standout was definitely the she-crab soup. It was easily the best I've ever had, packed with flavor and a reasonable amount of crab. For my entree, I went with the pan-seared scallops, served with a sweet, creamy corn purée, sautéed Swiss chard, and smokey bacon lardons. The scallops were perfectly seared, tender on the inside with a beautiful golden crust. Our server, Cece, was excellent! She was welcoming, attentive, and undoubtedly proficient. She made the dining experience smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. Hook & Barrel has indoor and outdoor seating. Pickup is available, but there is no delivery. Happy hour is Mon - Sat from 4PM - 6PM. Shrimp Ceviche - 7.7 Bourbon Bacon - 8.1 She-Crab Soup - 8.6 Pan-Seared Scallops - 8.5 Food - 8.2 Service - 8.7 Value - 8.2 Restaurant score - 84

Yelp
I am in Myrtle Beach for work. Today is my fourth visit in a week. Food is absolutely amazing and service is impressive! Customer service is exemplary from the start to finish. It is not cheap but it is worth every penny. My favorites include the Suroc Bacon, Short Rins, Whole Fish, Pineapple Bread Pudding, Orange Creme Brûlée ... ambiance is hip and very nice. If you want a table, please reserve. I like sitting by the oyster bar.
google avatar

Yelp
Called to inquire about a reservation and the guy was not nice at all. He was very short, said they had no reservations. You'd think he'd would be kind enough to check on the following evening? Nope...that was the end of the conversation. I'll take my business elsewhere...too bad because it looks like it would be really good.

Cynthia C.

Yelp
Love Love Love! I came here to celebrate my birthday and I am so happy that I did. The ambiance, the food and the staff- 10/10! I truly enjoyed my dinner here. I did not have to wait to be seated even though I did not have reservation- I also got there when they opened. Bridget, the waitress, was amazing. She was helpful and attentive and truly went out of her way to make my birthday dinner special. I loved the music playing as well- old school- not too loud so you could still have a conversation/hear your own thoughts, which I appreciated. The food was delicious and I was so full, which shocked me because I can eat a lot. Don't question it. Just go!

Yelp
The oysters were amazing. We loved the ceviche so much that we ordered a second time. Great bar scene and service is very good. Highly recommend!

Yelp
What an amazing place! We sat at the bar for happy hour, enjoyed specialty drinks, shrimp cocktail and shared the blackened salmon with rice and mango salsa. Everything was delicious! The service was great and bartenders were friendly. I love the decor of this restaurant!
google avatar

Brian L.

Yelp
Beautiful building and decor. We sat on the covered porch on a nice evening. We enjoyed our entrees - my blackened salmon was delicious. I also enjoyed the she crab soup. The crackers and cheese were good, and they surprised us with a delicious birthday cake for our daughter.
google avatar

Nabeel N.

Yelp
Love love love. If you get an opportunity, make sure to dine outside. Gives off a "southern porch" dining vibe! First off, the H&B old fashioned is a must. They have a wide selection of American Whiskies. We had the fish bites and mussels for an app which was absolutely delicious. Followed by their pan seared whole fish (Snapper), the angry clams and the blackened salmon. All of which was mouth watering and tasty!
google avatar

Lisa Y.

Yelp
We were out to find some fresh fish and chose to try Hook & Barrel. We went early since we did not have a reservation. Luckily we got in and sat at the bar in the steamer. Service was great and it was entertaining to watch the food prep as we sat there. We had a couple fish house punch...pretty and tasty too. The comp pimento cheese and crackers included some special GF toast thoughtfully added by our waiter. I had Tuna rare...and delish! Husband had mahi, which he loved. He also had the she crab soup, that was great, with lots of crab. We did not have dessert, but the options sounded amazing.

Yelp
Overall great place with great staff and good food. Will come back and recommend to others who are in town. Pros. Great staff. The host, a fine gentleman. Was extremely helpful and went above and beyond getting us a table even though we are 20 mins late (too bad I did not get his name, my bad). Waiter was also very helpful and attentive. Ambiance is good but can be improved, did not give us the white table cloth feel but for Myrtle Beach standards, this probably close to fine dinning. Food was good but not wow good. We had a oyster, fish and pork and finish off with chocolate cake.oyster and cake was good but the entree seems to be missing the wow factor. This is what is missing to make it to a 5 star rating. Again overall great experience with good food. Probably more like a 4 1/2 star rating. Recommended!
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
Outstanding! It was delicious! From the crackers and pimento, the VA oysters, fish bites, blackened mahi, Brussels, key lime pie, and decaf americano, all was delicious. Aaron was great too! We didn't try the bourbon bacon but the tables around were tearing it up! It smelled great!
google avatar

Kim B.

Yelp
My husband and I went a couple years ago and they red red velvet cheesecake was my absolute favorite.
google avatar

Abby P.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time and the best seafood I've ever had! Came here yesterday for some quick pre dinner oysters and it was so delicious we had to come back for dinner tonight! Staff was wonderful and kind. Food was amaaaazing and the decore was great. Get the Oysters!!!
google avatar

Ray T.

Yelp
We dined here tonight based on reviews of the location. First, the service. We arrived right at opening so seating was not an issue. It's nicely decorated and well maintained. We were quickly greeted by our outstanding waitress, Rhonda. She was professional and attentive the entire time. She knew the menu very well and explained the specials to us. She brought us a plate of chips and house made pimento cheese. I'm normally not a fan of that cheese spread but I was hooked after one bite. They sell it by the 1/2 pound to go, if you're so inclined. I ended up ordering the spareribs with potato pancake and greens for a side. It was cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful. My wife ordered she crab soup for an appetizer which she thought was amazing and had crab stuffed flounder for her main. She said it was delicious, except the crab stuffing was a little on the salty side. I had the pineapple bread pudding for dessert. It came with housemade coconut ice cream. Honestly, it was one of the best desserts I've ever had. My wife chose the maple pecan crème brûlée. She said it was delicious. One last note the manager visited with us twice during our meal, very nice. Rhonda told us if you want to try this place during the high season you "must" have a reservation. I completely understand why.

Stephanie W.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere. Staff were exceptional. Drinks were well presented and those near me said the house specialties were good (I just had a beer). The fish I had (corvina) was a good quality and cooked well but the peach salsa that came with it was too overpowering to me. Just too much. Braised greens ($4 addl) were excellent (spicy btw) but Brussels sprouts ($4 too) were undercooked and had little flavor in our opinion. In the end, it was just not worth $140 for two ppl (with only one beer each).
google avatar

Khusbu P.

Yelp
We came here the first time we visited MB and loved everything about this place. The decor, the vibe, the wine and the pimento dip app. We have not been back since then but def recommend this restaurant as a local.
google avatar

Leland L.

Yelp
Service is great and food is really good quality here! I would like to see a little more variety on the menu (they could add like a seafood pasta maybe?) but all the meat and fish is really fresh and delicious. I enjoyed the shrimp cocktail and pimento cheese appetizers. I got the short rib as my main dish and it was awesome!! Also really enjoyed the chocolate mousse dessert. I didn't like the espresso martini though, it was way too sweet. A good spot for a quality dinner with great service!
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
Impeccable service and top notch presentation. Hook & Barrel definitely exceeded expectations. Came here last night for a quick dinner and left very impressed. The food and ambiance were both exceptional. To eat, I ordered the Roasted Chicken Breast, which came with whipped potatoes, roasted tri-colored carrots, chicken jus, and watermelon radish. If looking for a nice dinner spot in Myrtle Beach, this restaurant is a great option. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Gail C.

Yelp
Six stars for service, dinner and cocktails. Minus two for the worse creme brulee I have ever had.Plus, it is very expensive. I picked this restaurant based on how it came up on Yelp. The first picture I saw was of their famous creme brulee, since that is my weakness these days and I needed some self nurturing that was my goal, eat a healthy dinner than on to dessert!! We had some delicious appetizers, a take of Oysters Rockefeller, my main course as well as my husband's was seasoned to perfection and tasted exactly how it was described. My dessert, well you can guess, was terrible. A soft sugar shell and a warm, nearly soupy cream. Blah! The restaurant it self has a beautiful esthetic and contemporary, southern charm. The service was great. We will be back, but definitely not ordering the dessert.
google avatar

Stephen K.

Yelp
We dine at the Hook & Barrel every time we visit Myrtle Beach. The restaurant is always busy so a reservation ensures you are seated for a delicious meal and treated to professional but friendly service. We always start with the bacon appetizer and a refreshing cocktail while we take our time perusing the menu or trying to decide from their daily specials we always ask our server to repeat as each item sounds so good. After our meal we partake in their desserts and either an after dinner cocktail or a fresh brewed cup of their coffee. We never leave hungry but we always leave looking forward to our next visit and our next culinary adventure as we try something new.
google avatar

Joann H.

Yelp
Fantastic service and worth all the hype! I had heard the portions were small for this restaurant but that's definitely not the case. I kept it simple and had the she crab soup and the 1/2 lb peel and eat shrimp, which were delish. A lot of folks in my party had the catch of the day swordfish, which looked great as well. The old fashioneds included a nice strip of candied bacon which was a nice touch. We finished the evening with the $20 dessert tray which included a nice mini sampling of cookies, cannolis, lemon bars, and brownies. I picked out a lemon cookie which wasn't my favorite but I was stuffed anyway so no big deal. The pimento cheese and cracker starter was a nice touch as well. The manager also came out to check on our party and make sure we were taken care of. A memorable evening and great to see this woman-owned business thrive!

Kelly C.

Yelp
I found the restaurant on Yelp. I had no clue where to go, since this was my first time coming to Myrtle Beach. My friend ordered the stuffed crab filet, I ordered the shrimp and grits. They offered us these large crackers with cheese and pimento. It was good. We didn't have reservations, and as it was valentine's day, and we were not there for that reason, the hosts were accommodating and got is a seat really fast. Our server took a while to take our order. The restaurant wasn't too loud and there were these awesome custom jellyfish lights hanging from the ceiling. Also, the food seemed like an after thought here? All of the alcoholic drinks were in the front of the menu. More pages of alcohol were there over food! I found that interesting. I wasn't sure if that was a Myrtle beach thing or not. My food was really good my friend enjoyed her meal as well.

Chris E.

Yelp
Great set up here. Loved the openness. Service was good. We started with a half pound of shrimp and they were delicious. The only complaint I may have is the cocktail sauce could have been spicier. But that's fine. The bacon was a game changer. It eats like a steak. I had the grilled fresh catch, which was mahi mahi. The she crab soup was delicious as well. Cocktails were great and their selection of bourbon is solid.
google avatar

Thomas K.

Yelp
Went with several of my golf buddies and we all liked it. The She Crab soup was delicious and we also had the peel and eat shrimp for the table. I had the lettuce wedge with grilled chicken, which also featured their specialty bacon. My table also enjoyed the crab cakes, Osso Bucco, and the blackened salmon. The service there is great and the decor is upscale. A special treat indeed.

Andy R.

Yelp
On a previous occasion, my wife and I ate at H&B and we weren't happy. This time I wanted a steak and usually high end seafood houses have good steaks. So why not. The customary gift of cheese and crackers came out. The cheese was a bit dry but I loved the flavor. Bourbon Bacon appetizer which was awesome. My wife had the filet and I had the ribeye. Both very tasty. Only issue with that was the sides of fingerling potatoes and Brussels sprouts looked like a kids portion. Flavor was there, but I did expect a little more. All this time the staff were extremely friendly, the service was great and I loved the atmosphere. We'll definitely return to try other dishes.
google avatar

Colleen M.

Yelp
Excellent seafood and service. They are extremely allergen-conscious, label all gluten-free items right on the menu, and were able to prepare several of the menu items without dairy for me. Server and back waiters were awesome, and the ambience was a perfect southern beach vibe. Also check out the bakery!
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
We've been here before but not for a long time. The experience was as good as we remembered. We had reservations for Christmas Eve. The place was understandably busy but we did not feel rushed in the least. Daiquone was a fabulous waiter/ server . He was timely, knowledgeable, friendly & efficient. The decor is casual and elegant. The menu has a limited number of items, but the quality that the kitchen puts out more than makes up for the number of choices available. The braised short ribs were fall apart perfect. The blackened salmon was superb. I was informed that the chef likes to prepare it medium. I prefer well done. Hats off to the accommodating chef. Perfect. Not dry or overcooked at all-perfectly prepared! Accompaniment of pineapple salsa was a blend of spicey, sweet, & cilantro. To die for. The bacon appetizer is not to be missed. Unbelievable!

Yelp
Having dinner at Hook & Barrel made for the perfect Friday night dining experience. With a reservation in hand, I was promptly seated upon arrival and received attentive service from the waitress, who offered excellent recommendations. The Bourbon Bacon and Fish Bites appetizers were both delightful. For the main course, I indulged in the Grilled Filet Mignon, adding the coffee rub and the daily fresh catch, which was delicious Mahi Mahi. I complemented my meal with a selection of cocktails, including the Fish House Punch, Twilight Mist, and Smoked Bourbon Manhattan, all of which were fantastic. From the food to the drinks and the ambiance, everything exceeded expectations, making for a memorable dining experience. As the sister restaurant located next door to Croissants Bistro & Bakery, Hook & Barrel is definitely worth a visit. GRILLED FILET MIGNON asparagus, whipped potatoes, compound butter, with Croissants' coffee rub and the fresh catch add on - Mahi Mahi BOURBON BACON thick cut Duroc bacon with brown sugar bourbon glaze TWILIGHT MIST Nippitaty Aurora Gin, CAnE Southside, lemon, mint, simple syrup FISH BITES a fried mix of today's fresh catch, house remoulade, grilled lemon, parsley, scallions FISH HOUSE PUNCH Bacardi Silver Rum, orange, lemon and lime juices, Myer's Dark Rum floater SMOKED BOURBON MANHATTAN Larceny Bourbon, sweet vermouth, applewood smoked bitters, Luxardo cherry

Yelp
What a great find! The specialty drinks and wine list are expansive with lots of options. The she crab soup and bourbon bacon were the perfect way to kick off the meal. The Duroc bacon is probably the best bacon we have ever had!! Our entrees were spot on - we had the citrus tuna and seared scallops - both dishes were cooked perfectly! For dessert, we didn't think we could eat another bite...but Daiquone suggested we get dessert to go...best decision EVER because the pecan tart was delicious!! The food was out of this world BUT the best part was the service. Daiquone provided solid recommendations, was attentive, checked on us regularly throughout our meal, and was so nice and kind! All of the team offered top notch southern hospitality!

Yelp
Wow! This place delivers. The service is on point and the food/ drinks are great!! I ordered to go my first night for some crème brûlée at my hotel then decided to dine in the next night. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were on top of it - checking in, filling drinks, etc. Definitely more upscale - people were dressed nice not just coming in off the beach.

Yelp
I went with a local friend who made a resy. We had a great table by the bar and our waiter came right away with menus and water. The bar is beautiful with really cool jelly fish style lights. So far, so good. We had a little wait for cocktails - which were great - then our waiter disappeared for 25 mins. My friend had to flag another waitress to find our server and ask for the complimentary pimento cheese and lavash bread, which was yummy. Thankfully, our entrees came quickly and were all delicious. I'd love to go again and try some of the other dishes.

Yelp
I checked this spot out on vacation and it was wonderful! Great service and food. Our waiter did a great job and even offered to take our pictures in front of the jellyfish decor which really made our night! There was indoor and outdoor seating. We made a reservation and sat indoors. We had the steamed shrimp and mussels which were flavorful and delicious! We had fries as a side and blackberry mojitos which were amazing! This place is great for a date night or for a night out with a few girlfriends. Our waiter was knowledgeable, courteous, kind and had a sense of humor! I would definitely visit this restaurant again and recommend it to others. This restaurant was clean and appealing! The host and waiter did a great job!! The waiter even offered to take our pics which we greatly appreciated!! I would definitely recommend this place!!!

Yelp
Had dinner here yesterday. The exterior and grounds are beautiful. The interior is too, and very spacious. If I had to guess, our server was probably on the new side. But he had two other tables with more guests, and he tried hard. My husband had the house salad and kampachi (sp?) fish special. He had forgotten to have them omit the blue cheese on the salad (he has a strong aversion), but rather than just taking it away, the server graciously brought out another. Husband liked it, but was underwhelmed by the fish. Said it was fairly tasty but a little dry. I had the house salad (with blue cheese) and loved it. House dressing was perfect with it. Dusting of pistachios was a nice touch. My entree was the braised short rib with mashed potatoes. I substituted roasted Brussels sprouts for the greens. Sprouts were just as I make them at home. Potatoes were great. Short rib was huge and tasty despite some parts being a little dry. Now the gravy. It was off. Did not taste like a beef gravy. Clearly not from the same pan as the short rib. Was VERY brown - might have been made with some of those products that brown your gravy. Would have been better using a powdered premix. The prices were high. Probably taking advantage of their publicity and celebrity local chef.

Yelp
Hook & Barrel was recommended by our Lyft driver (and yes, I know I've been burnt by driver recommendations in the past...!), but, seeing as this little place was the only seafood option within walking distance from our resort, it's no surprise that I ended up here for both nights of my Myrtle Beach visit. A few reasons why I came back on that second night: Decent and diverse wine list not overwhelmed by Cali wines... A delicious and rather addictive taste of their friendship dip: pimento cheese spread with crunch pita-like chips Beautiful plate presentations A comfortable vibe One of the locals whom I met on my 2nd visit notes this is one of the better restaurants in this North MB neighborhood. Here's what we tried: Happy hour shrimp cocktail - da bomb Fish bits She crab soup = heavenly but rich! Wedge salad - made to perfection Pan-seared scallops - also perfectly cooked My only complaint is that this restaurant aims to pack in every single customer they can; even during this off-season you will wait for a table (but it's worth it). Do not - and I repeat, do not - expect to just waltz in and grab a seat at the bar as they heavily manage those seats, too. Overall I would recommend without question! A wonderful and relaxing place to enjoy a well-prepared meal on your own or with friends. Creative presentations that let you feel pampered by the wait staff and the kitchen. Enjoy!

Yelp
Follow me if you'd like. What a great spot! I don't call out servers very much and I hope I spell his name correctly. Marquis took very good care of us and made some great suggestions. We sat on the porch and had plenty of room. Plenty of fans so it was nice and comfortable. We started with the complimentary pimento cheese. Delicious. We also had oysters Ala Heidi and the she crab soup. Also fantastic. Drinks consisted of H&B old fashion. A mule with Tito's added and then a Carolina lemonade. All were marvelous. For entrees we had the crab stuffed flounder and the short ribs. (Our servers favorite) we also ordered a side of Brussels sprouts. All was amazing. I am blessed to have a forever date that doesn't mind sharing which was a bonus for this dinner. All of the food was amazing and I would go back again and recommend for sure. We enjoyed it so much, we took dessert to go. Chocolate mousse. OMG!! I could go back and just eat the dessert menu. Looking forward to another visit in the future.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic! We continued to rave about the food throughout the night and into the next day. By far, the most impressive seafood tower any of us has experienced. Everyone enjoyed their entrees as well and each of my cocktails was delicious. Our server was incredibly friendly and gave helpful recommendations. The place was comfortable enough to be there w/ my kids but nice enough that I'd go for a fancy date.

Yelp
Hook & Barrel has a great atmosphere and fresh seafood. The scallops were perfectly cooked. Gave 4 stars because parking was a bit tricky.

Yelp
Great food and service a little pricey but worth it! Would definitely go back. Great date night spot but brought the whole family. I didn't have a reservation but we were still able to get a table!

Yelp
Went on a date night with the wife. If you've read my reviews, you know we have a multitude of food sensitivities and allergies. Tree nuts, peanuts, gluten, dairy and Alpha Gal (effectively an allergy to mammalian meat). Yea.... We are a treat to go out to eat with. They were very gracious to our issues which always makes things go better. I ordered the crab stuffed flounder and she had the crab cakes. That's right GLUTEN FREE CRABCAKES! first time in 10 years she's had crab cakes. They were fantastic. My flounder was very good also. Because of a mix up on Resy, they didn't get our reservation but has space at the bar. It worked out. Service was good, but like any bar, they are busy people. They tried and were nice so it worked out well. Ambiance is nice - not the cheesy stuff you see at so many beach restaurants. They give you pimento cheese with crackers or gluten free bread to start which was good (she has the dairy sensitivity). Dessert menu is good - we didn't try anything but it looked good. They have a sister establishment next store which is a bakery. So wouldn't recommend small children here - it could be fine but mostly adults were there and just not that kinda place. Teens and up would be totally good. Definitely a date night place. The patio seating is ok late in the day the sun beats down on the front part. So be aware. Best restaurant in the area - hands down.
