Hook & Reel in Hyattsville came through with flavor, good vibes, and solid service. The lemon pepper wings were crunchy and bomb, and the catfish with hushpuppies hit that comfort food sweet spot. We got into the crab legs and black mussels with the Hook & Reel sauce—I asked for spicy, and while it wasn’t as hot as I’d hoped, the thicker sauce stuck to the seafood nicely, adding big flavor with every bite. The margarita was smooth and well-balanced, not too sweet, not too strong—just right. The music was on point, and there were plenty of TVs for sports watching, which kept the energy fun and lively. Our server (from Chicago—wish I remembered his name) was friendly and on top of things, and a few other staff even stopped by to check in. Also worth noting—the bathroom was spotless and well-maintained, which gave me confidence that the kitchen is just as clean and cared for. I’ll definitely be back—especially for Saturday karaoke, the DJ, and those drink specials. Great place to unwind with seafood, sound, and a little turn-up.

I had Crack & Peel with is 2 swon crab clusters, 1/2 lb of shrimp plus corn and potatoes in a spicy garlic butter. It was delicious. Tommy did an awesome job with the service. I will dine here again.

Shout out to Meti, she set the tone from the entrance. The environment was chill and inviting. The shots were smooth and not watered down like other spots lol. I’d definitely recommend coming here for anyone who wants to let their hair down and enjoy lunch or dinner.

Our server had great hospitality skills. The music selection not to mention was great. Definitely worth coming back. Decorating fits the atmosphere. He made sure to check up on us.

Good seafood experience! Anthony was our server and he was awesome! Very attentive. We went on a Saturday surprisingly it was not busy but a decent crowd. On Saturday 5:30-10pm they have a few drinks specials and lively music (the Long Island is strong!!!) .our food was fresh and hot! I love the team work of their crew. Thank you to everyone who made our dining experience wonderful. This is a definite return.

Great, fresh seafood for an excellent price. Deondre, our server, was fantastic and efficient. Our meals were brought out very quickly and did not disappoint nor skimp on the portions. Not much to write home about regarding the chain restaurant style decor, but if you want your seafood piping hot and in abundance, go here!!! I'll be back!

Idk what happened. It's 301am and I am still up, sick from eating the 4 happy hour chicken wings I ordered around 3pm the day before. Soon as I left the place and got in my car, I started feeling quesy. Two hours later, I'm throwing up. I should have known something was off when I ordered wings and hush puppies. The hush puppies came out in a few minutes, the wings took bout 25 mins and tasted kind of slimy :( They have a new happy hour menu. Bartender is always the sweetest

I enjoy coming here for both dine in and carry out! Recently I went for dine in and the staff were so friendly and attentive - as they usually are. We needed some special accommodations for seating and they were swift and never made it feel like it was too much of an ask. We ordered the family meal option and everything tasted great. The waiter checked on us periodically making sure we had water, napkins or anything else that was needed. Overall it was a great experience and I will be back!

New spot and wanted to try. The drink I had for happy hour was really good and strong. They definitely need more help but it wasn't bad service. Ordered some wings and onion rings and both for really good. The inside was big enough to be busy. Enough seating and lighting it was really nice inside.

The food is really good here. One of the best boils I've ever had. The happy hour specials are on point too! Everything in the $7 range! Drinks too! We come here on Fridays all the time! A-1!

Drove straight here after waiting 25 minutes in our booth at the Hook & Reel DC location on Market Street (see review previous to this one). What a major difference in service and experience. Extremely great customer service with the friendly host, wait staff and bartender. After being seated, our server came within minutes to introduce herself and grab our drink order. We put in our app and dinner order since we had so much time to look at the menu at DC location. The server entered our food at the right time so we had just enough time to eat our appetizer before our boils came out. Everything was great and I do indeed recommend coming to this location only. They are friendly, the place is clean & cute and the food delicious. *friendly reminder: the DC location's service is absolutely horrid -- do not go there.

*Happy Hour Review Only* I've been to other locations in the area. Last Thursday was my first time at this location, and I would come back again. Met up with a friend for happy hour. We sat at the bar. I'm assuming happy hour is only at the bar, but don't quote me on that. The bar area isn't too big! Bianca greeted us and provided great service. The specials are pretty good. I posted a pic with the menu prices. I got the cajun fries and watermelon and apple martinis. Both were tasty. My friend got crab bites and oysters. Overall, a good time was had!

Once again, hook and reel rises to the occasion. My Mister and I stopped by for a seafood boil. The food is great. The ambiance is on point. Live karaoke is going on right now. Service is also great. Stop by when you're in the neighborhood. You won't be disappointed.

It was a Friday evening and I just wanted some hush puppies so I placed an order online and they were right there ready to be picked up. Within my 45 second interaction, the service was great! And $6 for 10 hush puppies was a pretty good deal. I will be bringing my bestie here for some hush puppies when she returns to town.

Spent good money on a custom boil bag only to get home and have no corn or potatoes. I was told to come back and get it whenever o have time. I happen to be at the mall and I'm told the lady o talked to just left and there's no manager on duty to resolve this. Don't spend your money here.

Came here for the first time with a friend. We ordered the Reel catch and chose their crabs legs with shrimp and mussels, and; added an extra order of corn and red potatoes. My friend also ordered an unsweetened ice tea and lemonade. Our total came out to approximately $60. What's hot - Location. Pretty conveniently located in the mall, with plenty of available parking. However, because it's at a mall, be prepared for it to get busy on certain days and times. - Quality. Pretty good! Our food was hot and fresh when served. We ordered their hook and reel seasoning, which is pretty flavorful. Definitely make sure you get their gloves, bibs and claw crackers, because this does get messy. - Menu variety. There's meat and veggie options on the menu, which is nice. Pretty straightforward and simple menu. - Portions. Definitely enough to get us full, but not stuffed, especially because our order came with potatoes and corn. - Price. For the amount of food you get, including the quality, it's pretty good value for money. For a little over $30 per person, that's a pretty good price point. What's not - Service. Not bad, but not great. It was almost always difficult to flag down wait staff. Their staff are nice, but it appears they may be short staff, because we almost always had to be the ones to look for staff and ask for what we needed. My friend also asked for a specific artificial sweetener for her unsweetened ice tea, which they didn't have. Instead, my friend ordered half unsweetened ice tea and half lemonade, which they served in 2 separate glasses. Weird, because that meant my friend had to pour to combine them together. - Spice level. We asked for spicy, which is their medium level. There's a slight kick, but if you're a fan of spice, like we are, then it might not be enough for you. - No reservations. They don't take reservations, which sucks. Seems like something appropriate to do, especially with today's technology and how busy this place can get. I've seen this place packed, so we made certain to go there at noon, which is when they open. Final Answer Would like to comeback, but will be mindful of day and time.

The customer service was impeccable! They staff were a joy and hilarious! The garlic seafood boil needed more flavor though. However, the texture of the seafood was perfect and fresh to boot.

The Happy Hour deals are so affordable. I ordered crab bites, oysters, and the Cajun Boil with Crawfish, Black Mussels, and Shrimp Head-On. I really enjoyed the oysters and the crab bites. I was not a fan of the Cajun Boil because I did not like the crawfish or the mussels and the shrimp was overcooked. To drink I ordered the Mango Swizzle and Hook Punch. The drinks were really good and strong. I would go back for the Happy Hour specials but not the boils.

Horrible food. Sits in your stomach and will not digest. Wait staff very good, but product needs work.

Super convenient location right outside the PG Mall. They have a good variety of options from boils to sandwiches and baskets. The prices are very affordable and the servings are big. We did the mussel boil and the catfish basket both were good and full of flavor. Definitely add sausage to your boils. The catfish was a little oily for my liking but still good. They also have a great daily happy hour with selected drinks and apps under $8.

Always grading on a curve, but for what this place is, it deserves the five-star rating. The service was great! Very friendly staff. The beer was super cold and the food was excellent. I had the cajun boil with cajun seasonings set to "spicy." Very tasty, and all of the seafood in my boil was great (no mushy shrimp or muscles). My daughter enjoyed king crab legs while the other got the fried shrimp basket and my wife had clam chowder, all good! One thing I noticed was the large nicely-battered shrimp in the basket. Probably hand-battered there in the restaurant. And... great hush puppies. What's not to like? We'll be back.

I wish I could give this place 4.5 stars but I can't but overall it was a great experience there is a few little things but great. My friends and I so (a party of 3) We walked in the energy was cool lil empty ish for a Saturday night but I wasn't bothered but the ambiance was great a Saturday night. The service was a C+. But the food was amazing The flounder was perfectly battered and Fried perfectly and the fries but if you are like me I always ask for salt and pepper so when you put ur lil touch on it, it's absolutely perfect oh yeah I always get hot sauce for my fish and the hot sauce taste like crystal or Frank's but I'm leaning towards Crystal. Definitely wanna go back to try more

Not what I'm use too. Visited this location on 11/11/21 on an empty night. I've been a big fan of Hook & Reel and was excited that a new one was coming closer to home. Sadly this place won't last long with the bad service, and different quality of food. On an empty night, they managed to forget the drinks, forget the side dishes, bring out the wrong sauce, just a bad expierence. Side note, they do not have their liquor license so the empty bar wasn't appealing either. I won't be returning to this location anytime soon. The Woodmore location seems to be the only good one in the area so far. I hope the one coming to Dakota Crossings is better.

I really like the DJ kareokee Saturdays. It was fun. Server was nice. Great ambiance.

So today i went to this location and I'm not sure what happened in the back but my entire boil was missing seasoning it was literally nothing in my bag but seafood and seafood water. My bag was stapled up no i never thought about checking the bag because why would it come out with no seasoning. Never the less I found out when I got home my order was wrong so i immediately called them to let them know my order was wrong and was told by the manager that I should of checked my bag before I left. Yes I could of checked my bag but they also could of done their job. This was my first and last time there customer service is horrible and from what I received the food is just as bad!

Food here is great! Customer service was fast and very friendly. The DJ was also great playing old throw back.

My new favorite go-to spot! The service is incredible, the bartenders are so professional, and the cooks definitely know what they are doing. I always get a good meal and a good vibe at the same time :-) You should definitely come and try it out!!!!

This is the ONLY location I go to. The staff is always fun and attentive. The food is always fresh and drinks right on point. Great happy hour and spot to catch a vibe with a nice music selection. Woo is such a sweet heart and always make sure the experience is top tier. Definitely recommend!

There still isn't an alcohol license on the first day of Spring 2022 and the food is a GREASY MESS with oversized gloves. The snow crab legs were tiny and pitiful too.

Tried going to another nearby seafood place, but they were closed so we picked this one out because it was nearby and we had a taste for seafood. It was suspiciously slow for a Friday night, but we took a seat and I asked what beers they had on tap. They told me the bar was closed and didn't even have bottled beer. Strike One. OK, so I ordered that catfish plate with cajun fries and some hushpuppies and my friends ordered different variations of boil bags. I just wasn't in the mood to get all sloppy with the boils. THe food wasn't bad, I was just expecting better. And....I still want a beer.

My coworker and I were looking for a new spot for our happy hour. Yesterday we found it! Hook & Reel located outside the PG Mall in Hyattsville is our new spot! The bartender Bianca was great! They have a great selection of food items ranging in price the wings are the BEST! My coworker had oysters delicious! I recommend trying the Voodoo Lemonade and margaritas! We will be back!!!

We had to wait 24hrs to post this because we thought maybe this was a dream; nope, turned out to be real--it was a nightmare. We decided on Hook and Real for date night where we ordered the Reel's Catch and selected: snow crab legs and lobster tail, plus the shrimp HEAD ON and muscles. The waitress brought our order out with both shrimp heads on and shrimp with heads off instead of the muscles we had actually ordered. After we highlighted this, the waitress stepped away and clearly communicated to the manager that we wanted to change the order, not that she mistook shrimp with head off and not the muscles we asked for. The manager came to our table and we clarified it was the waitresses mistake. The manager came back with a plate and tongs for us to PICK OUT the shrimp with head off to take back to the kitchen, which we obliged. The request felt informed by stereotypical beliefs about the demographic which they serve and their assumptions feel racist. Nobody is trying to steal shrimp!! They brought out the muscles which were not good and we did not eat them. We hope someone enjoyed the shrimp we sent back to the kitchen!

The food is really good especially the Hook and Reel signature sauce. Shrimps are not overcooked. Our server is really nice, I forgot his name, however, we ordered 2 rice and it came out very late. We almost finish half of our orders when the rice arrived and we have to flagged down the server multiple times for that.

This is the 1st Hook and Reel that we have ever been to and really wanted to see what t was about. Since it is close to our son's place, we figured it would be a great place to have lunch before we met up with him. The location is great. It's right in what used to be PG Plaza, but you can tell from the outside that it wasn't going to be a very big place. The young lady at the front was pretty quick to seat us, but that is as far as the good service went. Everything else was a bit slow- from waiting for our orders to be taken to bringing us our drink and food. The music was also so loud at it was kind of hard to have a conversation. My husband had shrimp and Cajun fries and I had fried oysters and regular fries. We also had hush puppies as an appetizer. I don't normally like hush puppies, but these were awesome. They even had corn in them! My fried oysters and my husband's shrimp were huge and had just enough breading on them to not get full on breading alone. I also loved my fries. Will we return? Meh. If this is what we're in the mood for when we see our son, sure, but because the location isn't the best for customer service, we'll probably go someplace else.

Hook & Reel has definitely become my go to for seafood. My first visit was amazing from the food quality to the service and even down to price. I got the mini crab leg boil and the mini shrimp boil with buttered old bay. I will mention that there are stronger servers than others as far as attentiveness and kindness. All in all I definitely recommend this place and will be returning as usual.

Hook n Reel located at PG Plaza used to be my go-to location until tonight. The service is absolutely horrible! It's amazing how one can spend a lot of money for seafood boils and get treated like pure . By management! You are better off going to another location. Actually Greenbelt is way better! Food and service! The hyattsville location is a dump. I asked for three separate orders of broccoli. Management decided the three orders could be placed in one plastic bag. What happened to the "customer is always right"? Buyer beware! Spend your money where you are respected!

Got crab fries and a spicy seafood boil. The crab fries was deconstructed which is smart so they wouldn't get soggy but the amount of crab to fries ratio isn't good. The spicy option is super spicy and they have an option after that. I would get the mild unless you can handle eating a bag of ghost pepper chips. Scared to see how spicy the third option would be.

Hoping to balance out the reviews here! My husband and I ordered take-out tonight and the food was really good! Everything was prepared well, the food was still really hot, and the portions were good-sized. This was our first time trying them out as they are new to the area but we'll definitely be back. We ordered the steamed shrimp (they were huge, fresh, and seasoned generously!), the crab soup (creamy, minced crab meat throughout and great flavor), and the shrimp po-boy (huge shrimp, great sauce, and soft bread). Removed a star because there was some pretty loud bickering going on in the background amongst employees while I was trying to place my order and also they have lobster bisque listed on the menu as a side, but they don't actually have it.

Food was great . The service was trash 100% the staff threatened to fight me and my friend for speaking up about service and the manager undermined our story by talking about the loss of her aunt. Staff is completely unprofessional was cussing about another staff member while still being on shift "I don't care she should have been have me my f*ing break I'll clock out right now " . Waited 25 mins to be seated and the entire restaurant was free . Literally only : tables were taken up and we had to wait 25 mins and then when someone else came in they were seated before us. We had to speak up to be seated

I decided to have a day out alone. All I wanted was some steamed oysters and shrimp. How is my oyster supposed to be steamed but the oysters and sauce come out cold. The hook and reel sauce special was disgusting. it was like a tomato sauce. Then the mini shrimp bag i choose lemon pepper and garlic butter with spice.There was no flavor nor spice. I asked for some spicy sauce the waitr brought like a spicy oil. As far as my drink havenlyescape there was no liquor in there just coconut milk. I'm so upset i wasted my money

10/9/2021 Get this... NO SUGAR SUBSTITUTE for my unsweetened iced tea. The food server didn't even seem to understand the words "Sweet'N Low," "Equal" and "sugar substitute." They came back to the table later, explaining that the only sweetener they have is sugar, and handed me a ketchup-type paper cup full of sugar. What?!? Thankfully they did have unsweetened iced tea, but what did they think people would put in the iced tea? What do people put in their coffee -- assuming they serve coffee? I'm not even going to comment on the food. If the restaurant/kitchen/staff don't know about and don't have sugar substitutes, I wonder what else they don't know about. And this is a chain restaurant!

Visited this location for hubby's birthday since it's so close to my house. The seasoning was bland. I don't eat spicy food, but that wasn't even close. When I say there was no seasoning I mean someone forgot to season the food. I have visited 2 other locations that were on-point and the folks at this location probably need to sit with the other cooks. I'm writing this review because yesterday hubby brought home 2 shrimp po-boys and I tried eating half and it wasn't seasoned at all. No seasoning on the shrimp, the flour used to batter the shrimp wasn't seasoned. What is going on here? Who's in the kitchen? I'm not a cook, but even I could have done a better job. The service at the restaurant was fine.

I actually went there with a couple of friends to have drinks and seafood. To my surprise, no alcohol is served there. I thought after all this time being open, no bar? It was very disappointing to our whole group. We all eat seafood with a beer or mixed cocktail. We ended up having to go somewhere else. Hopefully this changes.
