Great service and food! We had the shrimp boil, and crab Po boy And the chicken tenders. Every meal was very good. As is the crab fry’s.

Google
--- I recently dined at Hook & Reel and had an exceptional experience, thanks to our server, Thomas. He greeted us warmly and was incredibly patient while we figured out what to order, providing expert recommendations that were spot-on. Thomas's enthusiasm and knowledge of the menu enhanced our dining experience, making it both enjoyable and informative. His attentive and friendly service made our visit truly memorable. If you're dining at Hook & Reel, ask for Thomas – his outstanding service will elevate your meal. ---

The food was amazing! Being from Baltimore this says a lot... Our server Soda is the absolute BEST, he was attentive, right there when you needed him, informative and very friendly. Our food came fast, hot and just as requested. Good music was playing and it was a chill vibe. Would definitely recommend and go back!

Celebrated my daughter's 19th Bday here....amazing. half of the party had the seafood buffet and the other half that was allergic to seafood had the KPot!! Perfect arrangement. Drinks at the bar / bartender service was great. Super accessible, parked right in front...train is a few steps away. Will definitely make a few trips back.....one of my favs now! 🥰😋🤗

I've been to a few other Hook & Reel locations and this was easily one of the better ones. The food arrived fairly quickly, didn't have to wait around for the next servings, and excellent service. Our server Anna was great and attentive. My friend and I had some gluttonous fat boy requests that she fulfilled without any problems. I hope she gets a raise or a bonus of some sort.

I have been wanting to try this chain for quite some time since I am a fan of these kinds of restaurants. I had the opportunity to stop in today for lunch after being on the beach earlier in the day. You get a bit confused when you walk in since they share a space with another restaurant called KPot that serves Korean BBQ and Hot Pot. The hostess in the front was extremely helpful and welcoming, and my server Sam was friendly and attentive. I kept it simple for my first meal here, so I opted for the hush puppies and the crab cake basket. Both were really good and very filling where I couldn't finish it all. I also ordered a Caribbean Pina Colada that was truly amazing. The restaurant itself is quite large and has several floors and outdoor dining. They have a pretty extensive menu and offer an all you can eat package for a reasonable price. Overall, I was happy with my experience here and will be sure to stop in again in the future.

I went for my husband's birthday yesterday! The food was great! The waiter Tawana was the best! Even the manager on that shift let us know our drinks were taking alittle long. And gave us complimentary shots! Definitely going back. Karoke every Wednesday...😜

Google
Sunday 3pm, 1 waitress, only 1, we had to wait forever for our food and to get whatever we needed. We went for the $50 all you can eat and I have to say that food was disgusting. Cold mozzarella sticks, dried and old wings, etc. The only GOOD thing in this place is the seafood boils. That's the only reason why I go back the seafood boils & that's it.

Yelp
Everything went well ... so well that I'm back for another go around while introducing Hook & Reel to my friend Hanna. Love the ambience love the fresh seafood saturated in hot garlic butter sauce ... yummy

Yelp
So I ordered a seafood boil for takeout as I was craving seafood. This is my first time visiting this location so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the mini crab leg seafood boil as it was explained to me, it consisted of one cluster of crab legs which is typically 4-5 legs. There's an option for a larger boil with 2 clusters. It comes with 2 potatoes and 1 corn & you can add additional sides for an additional price. I ordered some sausage and an additional corn as well as their garlic bread sticks. The garlic bread sticks were super oily and inedible. Absolutely disgusting!!! It appears that it was some type of fried bread/dough kind of thing.. I can't even explain what it was but it was saturated in grease, not butter. It was instantly tossed in the garbage. Crab legs are my favorite food in general. I have eaten an extensive amount throughout my life even making them quite often. Don't let the picture deceive you. These were the smallest crab legs I've ever seen. I didn't even know crab legs could be that little. I don't know if the mini boil is conducive to the size of the crab legs but that's exactly what they were, mini. They were unseasoned, barely any meat inside and flavorless if not for the garlic butter sauce. The sausage & potatoes were good but the corn wasn't fresh as I believe they use frozen corn. It was hard and overcooked. I did take out so the service was average but they also do KPOT & Hot Pot there so the server politely explained to me how it works as I was looking at the menu. I wanted to try out their KPOT but since my seafood boil was so disappointing, I don't think I'll be back.

Yelp
I'd rate Hook and Reel three and a half stars. I participated in the all you can eat seafood boil. You get four seafood boil items split into two plates plus unlimited appetizers. I had the crab legs, the head on shrimp, and the New Zealand mussels. I had them all with the Cajun sauce. I had it mild the first time and spicy the second. Not much spiciness coming through. The flavors greatly rely on butter, salt, and garlic. My favorite seafood item was the head on shrimp followed by the New Zealand mussels. I didn't have any of the appetizers, but the group generally agreed that the seafood boil items were preferable to the appetizers. I'd recommend eating the boil first and then circling back to the apps if you're still hungry. Full bar with macros drafts and wines. Service was helpful and accommodating. Food came out at a reasonable pace. There were communal gendered restrooms. The restaurant is on the second floor, but there is an elevator making it handicap accessible. Very casual atmosphere. There is outdoor seating overlooking the Coney Island amusement park, but it was closed in mid-October.

Yelp
Me and my niece had the all you can eat seafood boil. You're able to choose from the seasoning. The waiter explained how the all you can eat goes. It's spilt up into sections. The waiter was nice. The hostess was very friendly. I love that the restaurant was decorated in Christmas decorations. The colors were beautiful. Me and my niece had a great aunt and niece day. We choose a great place to eat at.

Yelp
Okay, this is apparently a chain as well. But since there is only one location nearby, I am going to treat it as an only entity. Yes, I have a little south in me. I like a good boil, only this one takes a northern twist on it. Who puts spaghetti in a boil? Well, this location does. Located right off of busy Surf Ave, the restaurant seems to have less staff compared to its Korean BBQ restaurant which is right below it. It is a basic menu that focuses primarily on Cajun style seafood. I had to try the boil as you get more for your money. Indeed you do. Tons of shrimp, scallops, and some potatoes to boot. Yes, I also got some sausage and pasta with it to give it a bit of a twist, and it all works so well. I only wish I had a knife to cut down on the corn. Corn on the cob is not my thing, but I will gladly eat it off the cob. The food came out quick and was very fresh and full of Cajun flavor. I can appreciate this. I was happy with the overall result and would like to return again before the summer is over.

Yelp
The shrimp were very good, full of flavor and a good deal all the way around, they are very accommodating and very helpful, the service is top notch , they are extremely attentive . Good shrimp, good times , I will definitely come back here , I loved the whole vibe of this place .

Yelp
Generally a fan of hook & reel, food at this location was quite salty, didn't get any thing from the K pot section which looked good, the thing here is the service and lack thereof. A real turn off from coming here. The waitress was on her phone and didn't appear to be present. Had to ask for silverware, napkins, water etc.unpleasant experience. Decor is pretty though!

Yelp
Love the Po boys here and the seafood boils. Food is very flavorful. Nice vibes inside very relaxed.

Yelp
Was in Coney Island for a concert but it was raining so much and we were not in the mood to be rained on so we decided to get something to eat while we waited it out. I didn't know this location had 2 restaurants in one so we were a bit confused when entering. We were seated upstairs, where the hook and reel section is located. Food came out pretty quickly and we were very satisfied and the lychee martinis were delicious. It put us in a good mood to go out and brave the elements.

Yelp
Chill place to drop in for happy hour for wings and a beer after visiting the aquarium. Wings are a good deal and done well but would be better if it came with a thicker buttermilk ranch or blue cheese. Service was friendly and prompt.

Yelp
Alrighty, points to note, weekend prepare to wait, and be skipped by whoever walks in that's boys with the hostess. They have an " all you can eat" menu which costs 40$ pp, but they don't tell you until you're 2 bags in that it's only a 2 bag maximum ( LOL) so it's not all you can eat. Also there is a limit to how much they put into the dingy two bags. They add gratuity to the bulk regardless of party size. They did not bring us out drinks , the buss boy and his helper ignore you and tell you to wait for the waitress but she never comes. Lol shot to sh***t this place is exactly what you expect it to be in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Yummy!!! We drive to Coney Island got hungry and saw the Hook and Reel with the KPot a Korean bbq the 2 businesses are in one store hook and reel upstairs and Korean bbq main floor . Everything smelled sooo good but we opted for seafood boil upstairs and it was delicious. Ambience and the staff were friendly, it was clean and bright and welcoming. I had the dungeoness crab boil and my husband had the snow crab boil both came with a few red potatoes and a little piece of corn and deliciousness. Go check it out.

Yelp
Very delicious food. However, they got rid of the AYCE option when KPOT opened up downstairs. I guess recently they brought it back (I called 6/24 to confirm) but it's not available all year round unlike their sister stores.

Heidi Wessell F.

Yelp
Excellent service. We waited a bit but it was totally worth it. The seafood boils were amazing. The small had tons of crab legs or shrimp. Clam chowder was delicious and the chicken salad was lightly breaded to perfection. Definitely a good find!

Yelp
I came here with some friends on July 4th around 4:30pm. This is probably one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. The wait for a table was unnecessarily long. We walk in and ask for a table of 3 and was told that the wait would be 20 minutes, which was fine. Then a half an hour later, the hostess seemed surprise to see us despite standing there for at least 30 minutes in her field of vision. I say that the wait was unnecessary because i literally saw at least 3 tables that were empty but not cleaned. There was no sense of urgency or hustle that you normally see at a restaurant. We are finally seated and are greeted by a not so friendly waitress. We placed our order for drinks (water and Diet Pepsi) and for our food. About 30-45 or so minutes later, we still did not have our drinks, which I thought was strange because it takes less than 5 minutes to get two cups of water and a soda. When I asked for the drinks, the waitress just said to wait as our food was almost out and she was going to bring everything together. This is not standard practice! She brings out the appetizers--coconut shrimp--which was actually pretty good. That was the only good thing about my experience. I ordered the lobster bisque which was super clumpy and lukewarm. I also had the crab cake basket, which had soggy cold waffle sweet potato fries and also a mushy crab cake. My friends had the clam chowder and raw oysters, which were reportedly pretty good. The food took over an hour to eventually come out. The bill came out quickly though which was nice. Anyway, I was surprised that this place has such high reviews on here as it was definitely one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a restaurant. Do not come here!

Yelp
Definitely could not tell that this is a chain restaurant. Food leaves you with a sense of being full and worth every penny!

Yelp
I took my son here for his 18th Birthday. I made a reservation for 12 people and they were able to accommodate us. The place is very clean and family friendly. We did seafood and K Pot. The all you can eat option is amazing! You get so much food for a reasonable price! Also, when it's your Birthday, they bring you out a cake and sing happy Birthday to you in their own special way. Last but not least, the customer service was stellar. From the moment with arrived to us leaving, the hostess, waiters, and manager was great! They truly helped make my son's birthday a memorable moment! We are looking to make a reservation for my son's graduation in the upcoming months!

Yelp
The food was disgusting at this location. The shrimp were cooked shrimp that they fried which made them over cooked. The calamari was flavorless as ere the shrimp. The Cajun fries were missing Cajun on most of the fries. The catfish sliders were pretty good though but needed more seasoning. I was very disappointed because I spent about $75 which was a waste ‍

Yelp
The food is delicious and I recommend this place to anyone who loves seafood and they also have hotpot sections for those who enjoy hotpot as well. My friend and I love this place. The waiters were friendly and they helped to make sure that we were satisfied with our meal

Yelp
Wanted to have seafood boil for dinner in Brooklyn. Stumbled upon their current AYCE promotion ($45.99). If there is leftover food, they do charge per person. We also came on a Wednesday night which so happened to be ktv night. We expected the appetizers to be a smaller size but they were a normal order. The calamari, sweet potatoes, and salad were huge - be warned if you're with less people. The seafood is ordered by 1/2 lb or 1 lb. We ordered 1 lb crawfish, 1/2 lb shrimp, 1/2 lb new zealand mussel, and 1/2 lb clams. We chose the spicy garlic butter sauce. It was a bit bland so I would go for the other sauce options. I love how you can customize the amount you want. I was extremely full after all the food. The staff was extremely nice and enjoyed ktv night as much as we did. I didn't get the managers' name but she was very friendly. Some of the workers sang as well. It was a great atmosphere. I would definitely stop by again before the AYCE deal is over.

Yelp
Food was good, BUT...cleanliness is lacking. July 4, Surf Avenue location. While going upstairs someone spilled a beverage at the elevator. That spilled liquid(sans cup) was still there. Easy slip and fall. The ladies bathroom was a mess(customers fault I know) but make an effort to clean it. Food was good, appetizers came with entree, we then had to catch someone's attention for utensils & napkins.

Yelp
Delicious cajun seafood in a bag! Got the large catch with crab and double shrimp with the everything sauce. I think we should have gone with the old bay + butter seasoning, but we know for next time. Average priced, but def a great place to eat at Coney Island

Yelp
The food is delicious. The service is terrible.spanish and dark skin serves was very rood and agresive. I will never come back again but maybe i will take online oder

Yelp
My man I and I came for the 2nd time yesterday since we had a great time on NYE. We arrived and was told it was a 20 minute wait which turned into 40 mins. We didn't make a fuss since it's Saturday night. Tell me why there was seating available on the left hand side but I guess they choose not to use that space for whatever reason. We were seated and were anticipating the All You Can Eat Menu!! Nope, We were told it ends at 830 it's almost 930 now. At that point I didn't want to eat anymore. I just stayed since we haven't eaten and ordered a Po'Boy sandwich and he got a sandwich too. It was good and flavroful. Why a group of women came after we ordered and bullied the waitress into the All You Can Eat Menu and she obliged with no hesitation. I was pissed because I was pleasant and nice with her but she let women with slick mouths control the night. They gave us a discount but come now she agreed to people right behind us and it wasn't even discreet. I confronted her nicely though by pulling her to the side. We still tipped her because we're nice people.

Yelp
Never disappoints. Shrimp were huge and cooked perfectly. Crab balls were loaded with crab meat. Our server Savanna was great!!!

Yelp
Came on a Saturday night and was seated fairly quickly for a large party which was a happy surprise. Took forever to get waters. Ordered all kinds of appetizers. Calamari was soggy. Crab Bites super fishy. The wings were good just DOUSED in sauce. My fault. I should've asked for it on the side. Took forever again to see our server. Then another eternity to get the check. So many other eateries in Coney Island that could do soooo much better. Will not return.

William Y.

Yelp
Server Savanna was attentive. Food came out fast. Decoration and setup was nice. Price was reasonable.

Yelp
It is a new place in the neighborhood, located next to the Coney Island train station where apple Bees used to be. The lovely host welcomed my mom and me and seated me at the table Unfortunately, they don't have a liquor license yet. We got a couple of virgin drinks, which were good. For the food, we got a deal for 69.99$, which included two appetizers and a main course with the choice of different seafood; you can choose seasoning and level of heat. The seafood was cooked perfectly: crabs were juicy, I loved the muscles. I am coming back for more; I hope they will keep the quality.

Chiffon A.

Yelp
Jazz is the best Bartender in NYC. LuLu was a great server. All was excellent at this Ralph Ave Hook and Reel.

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Came here earlier today maybe about an hour ago now and sat at the bar for fifteen minutes waiting to hear greeted and given a menu there were two workers behind the bar back and forth neither came to greet me or offer a menu at all. I ended up making a call while I waited and still was never greeted the guy came literally in front of me to grab a cup but went back to making drinks. I decided not to spend my money in the establishment since I wasn't worth a hello or anything else to them. As I walk out now the lady that was behind the bar also making drinks and serving patrons apologized as she heard me on the phone saying I sat for 15 minutes and no service. It wasn't crowded it was only 2:15 pm or so on a Wednesday. This was not my experience the first time I came before a few months ago but I definitely won't be coming back after today.

Yelp
First the plus side of this restaurant. I ordered the AYCE $4599 and the food was great. The fried fish and shrimp were crispy. When you order the tackle try the Hook and Reel Special Sauce. It is the best sauce on the list with your crab bag. The food was messy so they give you lots of napkins, handy wipes and a bib. Also they give you a claw breaker. Now for the downside. They only allow 2 tackle bags per customer with 2 entrees each but the portions are reasonable. The rest of the menu, appetizers, fried foods, land food entrees and extras are AYCE. Also be careful not to over order or waste. They will charge you per pound for wasted food. To be fair to them, it is half the price of their neighbor Crab House who is AYCE crab. The waitress was also attentive and although they add the tip to the bill, I gave her a little more tip for her good service.

Yelp
I came here today for the AYCE deal at $45.99 a person. I have never been to a Hook and Reel location, but I would never go back ever again. 1) The AYCE deal is such a scam. The waitress gave me the menu to look at and took it away after I ordered the first round. I have been to other AYCE restaurants before where I'm allowed to keep the menu for other rounds. I skipped the appetizers section and went straight for the seafood mix and match section. I ordered dungeness crab legs and shrimp and I wanted to order other things. She told me the other things will be part of the second round. I said okay. After I finished the first round of dungeness crab legs and shrimp, I ordered crawfish and clams for the second round. I finished the second round and wanted to order more. She told me that would be additional charge because I already finished my two rounds. I didn't know this AYCE deal was only 2 rounds to begin with (she never told me) and even if that was the case, I have an hour and a half to eat for the AYCE deal. I got there at 4:45 PM and by the time I finished my two rounds it was only 5:30. She asked me if there was anything else she could get me. I asked since I can't get anymore seafood, can I get other things from the other sections on the ayce menu? She said that would be an additional charge. I said okay, didn't want to raise a ruckus, and I just asked for the check. In summary, this isn't a true AYCE deal. I have never felt so restricted before with AYCE. I would dispute the charge on my credit card because this meal was such a scam. 2) The waitress told me that there would be no sides to the seafood I ordered and she asked if I wanted to order any. I told her two potatoes for the first round. And the bag contained four potatoes in total along with a corn. She clearly didn't know what she was talking about when she said the boil doesn't come with sides. This was way more carbs than I asked for. I politely ate all the potatoes for the first round, but I didn't eat any for the second round. 3) When it came time for the check, she gave me a check that originally didn't have any gratuity added. Then she came back later and told me she made a mistake and gave me a new check. This time the gratuity was added. I did read online that 18% gratuity is automatically added for the AYCE deal, but she could have told me what the difference was between the second check and first check. I asked ohh this has the gratuity added already. And she simply said yes. On the check I noticed she also added that I had ordered one fried calamari, which I did not. Technically that is part of the AYCE, had I ordered it. If it wasn't and she charged me extra for that, I would have said something. In general, I did not like my experience at this restaurant at all. I would dispute the charge on my credit card because I feel like I didn't get my money's worth. I have never disputed charges for restaurants before, but I am really, really unhappy with this experience. It's not because I'm being cheap and I don't want to pay the amount that was due. I have paid $500 a person before at a Michelin star restaurant. It is all about the principle in this situation. I have eaten at really cheap Chinese American buffets before. The food wasn't great, but I never disputed the charge. They at least gave me 2 hours of AYCE time. The website for this restaurant clearly says the AYCE deal is for 90 minutes. How is it also considered to be AYCE when I was greatly limited in the kinds of food I could order? I paid $45 plus and didn't get my money's worth. The seasonings that were used weren't that great either. They were more salty than flavorful. I had the spicy H&R special blend and the Cajun sauce. I have posted photos of my receipts from today's dining experience. P.S. I have been to the ayce crabhouse next door before. That truly is AYCE where they give you a generous amount of food. The cost per person there is more expensive, but now I truly think it's a great deal. I only came to this Hook and Reel place this time because I saw online it had an AYCE deal. If this place is going to be frugal with its food, then don't offer AYCE in the first place! Just have a regular menu then!

Yelp
The food is absolutely DELICIOUS!!! First time I've ever had seafood in a bag. It was seasoned and steamed to perfection. I had their signature boil with lobster tail, snow crab, shrimp, and clams and each bite was a treat. My husband enjoyed a crab sandwich and lobster bisque and was very pleased with both. My concern is the apathy of the staff which is somewhat reflected in other reviews. They're not rude, but more indifferent when it comes to service. I don't recall seeing anyone even attempting to look like they enjoy being in the service. It could have been the vibe for that night, I've only been once. It would only be fair to give them another chance, so I'll make it a point when I'm back in Coney Island.

Yelp
Really great! I'm from south Louisiana so I'm usually disappointed when I have "Cajun" food up here. But I was pleasantly surprised! Their shrimp poboy was really great! Everything we ordered was quite good. The fire wasn't quite as spice as I'm used to back home, but I'm glad we got the fire. My son loved it. Soooo happy. We'll be back. Thanks!

Yelp
This place is amazing! I visited it with my friend after we went out from the Luna Park. There are not many people ther and we waited for around 3min to be seated. We ordered crabmeat salad and 1Lb crab cluster and shrimp . It took around 15mins to wait for our meal. The salad is huge and it tastes good. However, the crab cluster tasted like HEAVEN! My friend and I are soooo satisfied and happy that we found this place. The young lady (don't know her name) is super cool and helpful. I live upper east side, and I have to take Q all the way to this place and it takes more than one hour. But I would say I wanna hop on the train just for the delicious food.

Yelp
The French fries are soooo good! They were crunchy and long. They didn't get soggy even though it was take out. The best fries I've had! The Crabmeat Roll was okay, it didn't taste that great. There was nothing special about it, I felt like you could make it yourself.

Madeline S.

Yelp
AJ was amazing! Perfect service, awesome vibe and was a real oneee!!! TYYYYY! None of our orders were wrong, if they were late even a minute she would check on it asap. She did her big one!!!

Yelp
This place was a lot of fun for a casual thrifty lunch with my husband, daughter and her boyfriend. We felt we could order everything we wanted because of the great prices. I had the best fried shrimp basket ever!

Yelp
The waitress was nice. The service was fast and there wasn't a long wait at all. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
My mother in law wanted to try this place. We took a drive over to Coney Island and walked into a beautiful, clean restaurant with pretty chandeliers. They offer both indoor and outdoor. We were seated quickly after showing our vaccine cards. Lexi was our server. She was lovely and called us 'sweeties' which had my mom in law laughing because she knows she's far from sweet herself haha. She was working both indoors and out so she did take some time to get back to us but it's understandable and we commend her hard work! She was courteous, made recommendations, and did check backs. Thanks Lexi! We took a while to order but decided on crab bites, mozz sticks, and fried calamari for apps. We were given shrimp chips complimentary. They were fresh and tasty. Then we got the app and put in for 2 orders of The Reel Catch pick 1/pick 2. One we got with Cajun sauce and sausage, the other we got with Garlic Butter. We dug into the apps. The mozz sticks were good, not spectacular but good. The crab bites nd fried calamari were really good, I'd definitely order those again! The mains come out and they're in a giant steam bag. We open them up and get to work. Now, I would've given 5 stars, but the clams tasted like clay and were full of shells. I don't recommend them. The garlic was a little on the raw side but it was ok. The mussels, shrimp, lobster tail, and crab legs were delicious! The potatoes, corn, and sausage were fantastic! Overall, the meal was worth it. The portions were good for the price and it all tasted fresh and flavorful. I'll definitely come back. Things that can be improved: they don't give wet wipes, plates, or any tools to open up the crab legs like the pick with the edge you run through. Granted they gave us the things to crack the shells but you kinda need the tool to pry open the rest and get to the meat. Also, no dessert? I was full but you don't eat dessert with your stomach, you eat it with your heart. A lemon tart or some sorbet would have been a good palate cleanser after all that garlic and Cajun sauce. Great place for date night Oh, and brought my husband home wings, he dogged them! He shouted you out on Facebook

Yelp
i came here on a weekday night, i live fairly closeby so i wanted to try it out. my boyfriend and i got the holiday combo & soup: clammed chowder (2/10): canned and microwaved because waitress literally told me she'll heat it up some more if it's not warm crab fries (5/10): fries with fake crab on top & mayo fried calamari (4/10): super burnt seafood (5/10): flavor was eh, not fresh, tasted frozen would probably not come back here again, many other better cajun seafood places in nyc :( kinda disappointed tbh
