"With an eclectic interior that’s reminiscent of the bayou, Hook Line & Sinker is the spot for crispy fried fish and shellfish. Order a few baskets of shrimp, catfish, and oysters to enjoy with plenty of beer and a crowd of friends." - Courtney E. Smith, Daniel Rockey

We happen upon this adorable restaurant when we were exploring Dallas. I’m in East coaster so I love my seafood and I am very critical. This was delicious and I loved that the batter didn’t have MSG and you could get it without seasoning. I had the shrimp and it was delicious. my son had the fish fillet and it was so well priced. We spent $22 and had two lunches. You order at the counter just like we do back east at the fish shops, and it had the hustle and bustle of a back east fish eatery. Not fancy, but full of locals which is a great sign!

Google
It's as if you just stepped off the fishing boat right onto the dock-- greeted by the sound of deep fryers crackling, and the voices of friends chatting. This is fish and chips at its best. Many choices here with an easy to follow menu. Burgers and wings served too. Many thanks to the locals who referred us.

Google
Ordered the whole catfish 1lb fried pickles and a coke. All were excellent the delivery was nice and easy and not confusing. The atmosphere is a nice mix of hearing cooking food, people talking, dishes being collected it’s a friendly and warming environment to eat in would come every day.

Google
I’ve past this place many times, but not once was I sure about anything. I was in search of some good blacked salmon and this place fixed of some really good salmon with grilled vegetables. I also enjoyed the bread pudding. It wasn’t 100% how I like it, but for the price I was pretty satisfied with it. We’ll be back.

Google
A friend and I wondered into this place tonight and absolutely the best seafood experience I’ve ever had in Texas or anywhere other than the east coast or Louisiana. The oyster are superb. The crawfish are Devine and the crab is delicious. And not to mention the sides are top notch.

Google
This place is a staple in the neighborhood. Perfect, for if you want some no frills, fried seafood, with fun ambiance. It's been a while since I'd been here, but it was packed on a Friday during lunch, so it's clearly still a favorite in the area. The fried oysters were delicious. A must try, Dallas staple.

Cashier was awesome and very helpful... But the seafood was great and tasted very fresh and clean If you haven't visited drop by ... Well until next time signing off Two Peas

Google
I love the coastal ambiance here; it's incredibly laid-back and cool. The fact that you can place your order at the counter and they bring your food to you adds to the charm. I opted for the breaded fried filet and shrimp, and while it was almost not seasoned at all, I believe they did it to let the fish's natural flavors shine. Although, I did find myself craving a bit more salt. Thankfully, they provided an ample supply of tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, hot sauces, and salt and pepper. The hush puppies were amazing though For dessert, I indulged in the coconut pie and chocolate pie, and both were incredibly delicious. They weren't overly sweet but had fantastic flavors. I'm definitely planning to return and sample some of their other dishes.

Yelp
I have moved around the Dallas area several times over the last few years. However, there is one place I keep coming back to eat and that is Hook, Line, & Sinker. Perfect location, corner of Lemon Ave. & McKinney Ave. Dine inside or outside. Today I am having their whole catfish. It comes with hushpuppies, fries or you can substitute grilled veggies if you prefer. The fish is crispy and tastes delicious. Nothing is cooked until you place your order so food is always hot and fresh. I especially like their tartar and cocktail sauces. They have a self-service area for extra condiments. Check out all the merchandise while waiting for your order. Staff is friendly, tables and booths are always clean. I arrived about 4:30p on a Saturday afternoon and place was packed. Looks like I'm not the only one who likes this place!

Davina L.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in DFW for seafood. I ALWAYS recommend people here ! The food is reasonably priced and the flavors are bomb.

Nami A.

Yelp
My experience dining here was fantastic! We actually had plans to go elsewhere and on the way to that place, this little restaurant caught my eye, and so we ended up eating here. We all got catfish poboys and a side of gumbo. The service was quick and order-at-the-counter style. Inside the establishment, there is a lot of fishing decor (I mean, are we surprised?) and it's pretty clean and tidy. Food-wise, the catfish was crunchy and fried to perfection and the jambalaya was quite addictive. We loaded up our poboys with grated horseradish and some hot sauce and just absolutely demolished it. Like seriously, this ended up being one of our favourite restaurants from the entirety of our stay in Dallas! From the way the reviews read, it seems that the quality isn't THAT consistent, but we are so thankful we caught the good side of it, because when it's good, it's GOOOOOD.

Jan B.

Yelp
Every thing was perfect for a holiday treat, the fish is always crispy and hot French fries plenty full and tartare sauce delicious

Mallory P.

Yelp
The catfish batter needed more salt and seasoning it was very bland. The french fries were cold. The shrimp cocktail sauce was very sweet. It is a local fish place that has been in uptown for a few years. We were extremely disappointed with the food.

Samuel L.

Yelp
An uptown Dallas staple. Just straight up good fried seafood. Can't ever go wrong with an order here.

Rogelio G.

Yelp
It was a bit crowded when I came in, but the line was fast enough to order. I ordered a Shrimp Po Boy and it came out surprisingly quick for the dinner rush with extra hushpuppies. The tartar sauce and ketchup pumps were clean and organized for the lemons. The ketchup tasted amazing making a great taste with the fries. The bathroom could've been better since there was no soap or paper towels in the bathroom.

Janet A.

Yelp
Had fried shrimp basket. Just ok. Two stars because cocktail sauce, first you can't make your own with horseradish and secondly their cocktail sauce little to none horseradish in it. Go AwhShucks! Great make your own cocktail sauce!

Walter W.

Yelp
Atmosphere is authentic fish shack style. Normally a go to fried fish and shrimp choice. Today was a Huge disappointment. The fried fish was grainy and chewy. The fried shrimp were small and beat thin to appear large with batter. They were famous for their hush puppies. They were long and cylindrical and perfect. Today I'm told they no longer use that supplier and have selected the unoriginal round batter ball style. Long John Silvers has a better hush puppy than this . You would be better served if you go to Flying Fish. If you were a regular here you will notice the drop in quality and the price increase.

Keli M.

Yelp
This place is okay. I ordered the 3 shrimp with 1 filet combo and substituted a salad for the fries. The salad was not that fresh or appealing. The fish and shrimp were not greasy, which is nice, however they could have used more flavor. I ordered takeout online, so when I arrived I just walked up to the window. Parking is a little tight if you enter from McKinney, but there is another lot off of Lemmon too. It looks like a cute fish shack.

Le'Anna B.

Yelp
Hot, fresh, and delicious every time! Love the casual vibe and cool decorations! We love the fried catfish and the crab legs and the pies!

Nichole V.

Yelp
Busy Saturday afternoon. Line went quick and service was great! My husband and I both ordered the fillet and shrimp combo - flavorful and fresh! Best Tatar sauce!

Ricardo M.

Yelp
Some of the best seafood in Dallas. It's one of the longest running places and they always have good specials. The service is fast and they give you a good experience. Cafeteria style environment, but a great place to go with friends or even by yourself.

Charlene F.

Yelp
Decided to try HLS for the first time. Stopped in for a quick lunch. I got the 4 shrimp, 1 catfish combo. Almost everything in the combo had zero flavor. The hushpuppies and lemonade were the only decent part of the meal. Service was also quick. That's what got them the 2 stars. Not even the smallest sprinkle of salt on the fish, shrimp, or fries. I added hot sauce, lemon juice, AND salt. That made it bearable. I love seafood and it doesn't take much to make it delicious. I feel like I want to send them a shipment of Old Bay to help out. Very disappointing and don't plan to return.

Bridgett H.

Yelp
Always a hit! One of my favorite seafood spots.... I always get there fried shrimp and what ever else In feeling that day. So today I want led some crablegs also . We got wings as an appetizer. Everything is Good!!!!

Sheila H.

Yelp
I am so upset that I bought $15 with a blend catfish and fries because I did not see the small writing where it says seasoning available upon request like where do you go that you want to buy bland food and have to request for it to be seasoned so because I did not see that I am stuck with $15 worth of bland catfish so make sure if you go you request that your food be seasoned or else it will taste bland

Vicki B.

Yelp
Best fried catfish in Dallas area. The fish is always fresh and hot. Fries are very good. We love this restaurant and the service is fast and friendly. If you're looking for fried catfish....check them out!

Alexis B.

Yelp
The batter used on their fried items is very bland and lacks any flavor. Also ordered grilled salmon and tasted as if there was not any seasoning on it. Would not recommended.

Michael L.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in Dallas. Not sure how much of it is nostalgia from younger days when I frequented, but the shrimp cocktail, gumbo, and fried seafood is always solid and well-executed. The decor is a little cheesy in the best way. The prices are good. Never had a bad meal here.

Maggie L.

Yelp
Overall, ok. Shrimp and oysters well prepared. Not a fan of their hush puppies. Actually didn't like them at all. French fries too fat, undercooked and mealy.

Manny T.

Yelp
Probably one of the worst poboys I've ever had. No thought or care went into its preparation. Stake crumbly bread and uneven pickles and onion. Whoever is prepping this doesn't give a sh*t and it shows. Go somewhere else.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
I was recently in town for work and went here for dinner. The atmosphere is so neat with a bunch of fishing decor. There is a cool patio area that had heaters too since it was cold outside. I had the side salad with the house dressing. The dressing was some kind of creamy lemon vinegar which was good. For my entree I had the shrimp skewers. There were peppers, onions, and tomatoes on the skewers as well. The grilled flavor was FANTASTIC and the shrimp were cooked to perfection. Definitely would go back to this awesome, quaint restaurant.

Tracy C.

Yelp
Hook line and sinker what can I say about it. What I can say is the food was not that great. The atmosphere is nice but the food was not, the only thing that tastes good were the french fries. The fish was very thin, I expected you know, thick cut pieces of fish it was very very thin you can get better fish at Captain D's or that other fish place long John silver's. I really wanted fish line and sinker to be an awesome restaurant to have fish at. I have been looking at this place for literally years. I was very disappointed in the food which is sad.

K W.

Yelp
The catfish was beautifully fried and crispy as ordered. My only complaint was that it lacked seasoning. Would return again.

Roy S.

Yelp
Got the salmon plate for lunch on a Tuesday. Not bad at all. Small seating capacity indoors. There is outdoor seating but for February, I shall sit inside. Menu selection is plentiful. Been to some similar places with only half of what this place offers. Food was good and price was not a shocker, with a drink and tip, $21. I have been here before but it was 12 yrs ago. I will be back more often, now that I office so close. FYI, don't go at lunch hour, 12-1...will be very busy. Love the place.

Jean Ann T.

Yelp
Great place to meet up with friends. Had some oysters, fired fish fillets, spring cocktail and a few beers with family out on the porch. Fast service and friendly people! Great location too, easy in and out! Just watch out if you're walking in the porch. We watched a few people trip who didn't see the sign.

Milkey S.

Yelp
Been going here forever for lunch. Get the blackened Salmon. Tasty and dependable. I also like the seafood gumbo from time to time. Place came be busy, so early is better if you want an inside table.

Elle L.

Yelp
My food was fresh and absolutely delicious. I'd been craving fried fish and decided to stop while I was in the area. The employees were extremely nice and helpful. They are following the Covid 19 safety protocols with 6 foot distancing and sanitizing each table after every guest. I enjoyed the food so much I might return today! The only thing I didn't like was the hush puppies. They weren't fresh at all, or maybe that's how they serve them. Idk....but I didn't need those anyway!

Valerie V.

Yelp
I love this place! Great crab legs which are my favorite. Seem to be fresher than most places serving crab legs. Looks like a fish place that belongs on a wharf and service is pretty quick. Haven't had anything yet I don't like.

Amanda G.

Yelp
This is the last time I will support this business. I did another online order and requested lightly blackened. When my other half brought it home it was completely red. I had to drive back up to the restaurant and explained to the lady that that was not lightly blackened. She said regardless, the blackened would be spicy. Okay then make it with just salt and pepper. My issues it that as I am waiting for them to remake it I can clearly see the employees are talking about me and my order. Regardless how you feel, anyone one that is customer facing should not talk about the customer. If you want to do that, do it behind closed doors. If you did not have customer, you would not have employment. Owners/manager need to explain to the employees it is not respectful to mock or talk about a customer. So disheartening.

Mia O.

Yelp
ordered the boiled shrimp to be delivered and it was absolutely horrible! There was no flavor and the shrimp looked like it had gone bad.

Jaime Z.

Yelp
This place was okay. The fish needed a lot more seasoning. I ate all of my meal but only because I was hungry. They need to adjust their breading to make it have a lot more flavor. Simply put, this meal was bland.

Rodrigo G.

Yelp
It's alright. It tastes very plain. Service it's good, and I love their location. I'll come back.

Del P.

Yelp
Pros: Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff and prompt service (only reason for the second star). Hush puppies above average. Cons: Terrible portion sizes. All batter, no meat. Thin cuts of both shrimp and catfish, nothing to bite into or taste other than the batter or dip. Tiny hush puppies. Overpriced by about 50% for the amount of actual food you get. NO SEASONING AT ALL. I can't honesty speak to the quality of the fish and shrimp because the simply wasn't enough to taste compared to the amount of batter. I will not be coming back. I will not be recommending to friends. In fact, I will make sure they know there are better options. Well, I can't believe this, but I am actually off to Aw Shucks to get more catfish because I am still hungry and still want catfish.

Rick B.

Yelp
Crispy fried seafood options in the heart of Uptown. Even better, they are served in a low-brow setting with a walk-up order counter! Stand in line to order great food from the simple menu over the counter, and don't forget to try one of the homemade desserts! Serve yourself soft-drinks and tea, or beer on tap (not a full bar). AFTER ordering, find an open tabletop to sit and eat - and expect to share a table with strangers during busy hours. But hey; that's part of the fun! Seafood Gumbo is spicy but robust. My wife & I split the 4 Jumbo Fried Shrimp and 2 Catfish Filet platter, and it was excellent! Served with fries, we barely had room for dessert. Luckily, we saved just enough room for the Key Lime Pie (fantastic)! Other diners praised the Skewers and Clams, and the Clam Chowder looked good enough to try on my next visit! Highly recommended for blue-collar diners (like me)!

Conne M.

Yelp
Always our favorite place to eat catfish! Not today though. I substituted the fries for salad and glad I did. That was the best part of my meal, even though the lettuce had a bunch of brown cut ends. I commented to my husband that the fried catfish was super white and didn't taste like catfish. He said his didn't taste at all. Neither did his fries or hush puppies. There was no salt or other seasoning on anything. Also, everything was very chewy. Weird. We haven't been here in a couple of years and guess this was our last time. So sad Hook, Line, and Sinker. You used to be our favorite. Very friendly service, though.

Jacqueline W.

Yelp
Hook Line & Sinker gets it right every time. The food is seasoned so good you can eat it without anything. No need for salt, pepper, or sauce!! It's just good. I'm currently working my way through their menu. Happy Eating!!!

Ella R.

Yelp
Employees were nice and ambiance was nice. Each persons food came out at vastly different times. The fried fish and hush puppies were inedible. Not a speck of seasoning. Fries were okay.

Brielle D.

Yelp
Here i am. So appalled and disappointed that I'm actually writing a review, if you check out my reviews, bad reviews are rare from me but anyhoo.. I saw the sign, pulled into the lot and ordered togo.. I'm offended, as a chef, with my degree I feel bamboozled; the food looked good, smelled good and tasted as air. Tasted like ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Like money was wasted on AIR!!!! Crispy, air! I should've known by observing the consumers but.. I'm just so mad and I want my money back so I'm hoping this review saves someone else's money. OH!! AND THERE WERE GIANT ANTS ALL OVER THE PLACE. Tables, condiment bar, walls..

Sam H.

Yelp
Good food, mediocre service I invited a group of friends for dinner to this place. We ordered main dishes and appetizers. One of the appetizers arrived when we were almost done with dinner. The main dishes did not arrive together. Some of us had to wait a long time for the others to receive their food so we can eat together. It seems that the waiting staff are not trained properly; I asked for tortilla chips with my shrimp cocktail and the waitress said "yes, I will get some". I never got it, so I asked her again on her next visit to our table, and she said the same thing. I never got it, so I went up to the counter and asked for it there and waited until they gave it to me.

Carlann M.

Yelp
I have never in my 70 plus years posted a restaurant review before, but this episode deserves an opinion from me. My husband drove there to bring home takeout for a late lunch/early supper. He ordered a catfish dinner and a side of fried shrimp and coleslaw. This food was so bland and flavorless that neither of us could believe it. How can deep fried shrimp, french fries, and catfish be so lack luster? Even the hushpuppies were simply fried cornmeal, no seasoning. We were extremely disappointed to say the least. So, if this is a food adventure for you, drive passed Hook Line, and Sinker on Lemmon Avenue. It would not even rate one star! Taste-less meal.

Debbie T.

Yelp
Do you want to grab a quick taste of the Gulf Shores while in Dallas? This is the place. The fryers are going and the oysters are shucked. The sign outside says it all oysters, catfish, shrimp and chowder. Fresh squeezed lemonade, beer and wine. Enjoyable, and quick. A true gem in a busy city. .

Nisha L.

Yelp
Stopped by this place because velvet tacos was having a gas leak.. So I ordered the pound of boiled shrimp.... it was very dry to say the least. I had to add the Cajun season that comes on it for more flavor and still didn't help. The butter I asked for helped a little after adding the seasoning there but still not much help. My friend got the catfish fillet and he said they were horrible. Everything is poorly seasoned. The young lady who takes the order is so sweet which is why it got 2 stars but based off food alone, a 1. The boil is not a boil at all. The one potato and corn you get aren't seasoned at all.

Bryan C.

Yelp
I'm gonna be so honest the seafood boil is very salty. The snow crab is small, with a tooth pick being bigger than the shrimp.

Herbert C.

Yelp
I'm out but be warned... NORMALLY, this is one of my favorite places to eat, a go-to, top of the list, particularly on the way home from work or a long drive because of the friendliness of those taking my orders on the phone, cooks, servers, and managers, whether I eat in or usually take out. I have taken friends, visitors and recommended it many times previously with gladness. NORMALLY, even when I have had to hold for a short time on the phone in placing my order, the management has been kind enough to at minimum say 'I'm sorry for the wait' or comp me in my order. It has been on fewer occasions that I have had to wait. Actually, when they see my number ring, they call me by name in answering and usually know what I want to order. NORMALLY, I enjoy any and everything I have from this establishment, which I have patronized for 16 years; however, tonight, Monday, January 15, 2023, Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday, around 6:30 pm, was the WORST experience ever with this establishment; thus, moving me to really come to a point of severing patronage with the establishment most likely on permanent basis. The supposed manager for the evening, Yurisa, took my call and asked me to hold. Being that the establishment is less than two miles from where I live, I said "sure" and drove there, still on hold. NORMALLY, by the time I place my order by phone and drive there, it's ready., 10 minutes tops. But this time, I was still on hold when I arrived. So, with phone in hand I went to the window and waited for her to pick up the call. When she finally got back to the call now going on 6+ minutes, she asked me for my order and I said, "As I look at you here in the window now, I would like to place an order for". She looked up , saw me, cut me off mid-sentence and placed me on hold again. At that point, I'm hot, pissed and insulted because of her disregarding and disrespectful action. She took someone else's order at the desk, filled another waiting customers order. Then, took another order of a person I know and recognize who happened to be eating there too. When she finally came to the window, which was now 8 minutes in by my phone's timer, she asked what I wanted to order. I tried to show her how long I had been on hold but she was not interested and asked me if I was going to place an order. She even had the nerve to say to me, "We take orders first come first serve". To which I responded "I've been here with you for nearly 8 minutes now!" Again I said yes to placing an order, and tried to again cite my dismay with having to hold first. She asked again was I going to order and refused to listen to what I was saying. Then without taking my order or hearing me out as a customer, she closed the window on me. There was NOT an overwhelming line inside for orders. Another customer for pick up offers to place my offer and even attempted to do so; however, she told him and I heard it, "I'm not taking his order." He didn't understand. So, he asked again and she repeated it even if he just wanted to place the order for me. After such I inquired for a manager. No answer from her or any worker. Thus, I go inside to inquire again. A worker inquires on my behalf although he did not speak English well. She answered him and repeated that she was not taking my order. I asked her her name and hope I have spelled it correctly. Although upset, I left the establishment at that point; however, I definitely wanted to share this extraordinarily disappointing and disgusting experience with and forewarn any future patrons to beware of the service and phone order manners of Yurisa. She may not be good for what NORMALLY is a good business that has lost a very loyal customer.

MS M.

Yelp
Fried fish bland!! SEASON THE BATTER PLEASE Portions too small for Price Offer fried broccoli and watch your sells go through the roof!!

Laura G.

Yelp
The food was great. We ordered boiled snow crab and shrimp and stuffed jalapeños. It was enough for both my husband and I. We enjoyed it very much. Will definitely go back.

Elisa M.

Yelp
We have been here numerous times however on this visit my nephew was visiting and wanted some seafood so I brought him here. I usually order kids meals for him as he's not a big eater however when he saw that only 2 shrimp comes in a kids meal, he told me that wouldn't be enough so I ordered him a basket & I ordered a pound of crab. When the food came out, we dug in however my nephew kept eyeballing my crab so I kindly offered him a leg, which was a mistake because he then wanted more & more!!! Everything tasted great, however as I said, this isn't my first time here, I've brought many friends here and they have yet to disappoint.

Ashley S.

Yelp
Service is good. Food is terrible. Paid 40 dollars for something I could of got at long John silvers (and it probably would of tasted better there too). Save your money and time and don't go here unless you like bland seafood !

Amy S.

Yelp
First time at Hook Line & Sinker. Fast service, cool atmosphere, friendly staff. I ordered the shrimp. Came with fries and hush puppies. The hush puppies were a little too done, but the rest was yummy.
