This has been on my list for some time now but we just hadn't made it over. We tend to usual go more towards downtown for our nights out - to my boyfriends dismay haha. So when he suggested a date night a few weeks back (sorry I'm behind on posts okay..) I thought I would throw him a bone and pick somewhere closer. When I checked the hoot and annie instagram and saw that they were doing a special harry potter theme the decision was made.
We made a reservation and I'm glad we did! It was quite packed for the theme - it sounds like most often its much calmer and laid back. The decorations were spot on and you could tell a lot of thought went into bringing the whole experience together. The special drinks were all phenomenal and not overly exotic, despite the dramatic presentation of each one.
We each had 2 drinks (but of course we sampled one another's ), we tried all 3 of the harry potter themed drinks as well as one of their signatures - the know it owl. This is generally an alchemy bar so whilst the menu covers most of the classics as well as a few signature spins on some of the OGs, they can make you just about anything you can think up, and then some!
Drink 1: R.I.P. Hagrid - $11.92 (bourbon, averna, blood orange syrup, black walnut bitters, 'dragon' smoke & 'dragon' ball lyche) photos attached
This drink was delivered to the table in a huge smoking box which both added to the amazing depth of flavor and the presentations/experience! While neither of us typically seek out bourbon drinks, we were pleasantly surprised with how smooth and well balanced this drink was. The blood orange syrup did a really nice job at calming the more dominant oaky notes that I typically find in similar drinks, without taking away from the bourbon or being overly sweet. Very well done!
Drink 2: Deatheater - $9.48 (Vodka, Rum, watermelon, cucumber, dry vermouth, lemon, St. Germain, 'infused with Voldemort's personal powder') photos attached
This drink was served in what i would describe as a spice jar placed inside of a spell book. The presentation was super fun and the drink was unbelievable sparkly, however it wasn't too much edible glitter to where the drink becomes slurried or syrupy as I have seen can happen). Despite the dark color and namesake, this drink was super light and refreshing. The flavors were sweet and bright but not too much so! I don't love St. Germain but in this drink it really melded nicely with the other flavors to bring everything together! I would definitely have this drink again!
Drink 3: The Weasley Bros. Love Potion - $11.92 (Lavender, violet, cassis, lime juice, vodka, rimmed with 'seduction bombs') not pictured
This drink was super fun and very sweet. The glass was rimmed with pop rocks to add to the experience. I don't like lavender but my boyfriend loved this drink, hence why theres no photo... he wouldn't put it down!
Drink 4: The Know It Owl -$14.00 (Hornitos reposado, green chartreuse, St. Germain, lime, agave, cayenne) not pictured
This drink was good, it had a nice earthy flavor to it and was a great finish to the night after all of the sweet drinks. I requested a spicy mezcal drink and this could have been a little spicier in my opinion but thats a personal preference.
After we finished our drinks we went out to the patio area where they had a really good food truck! We tried the smash burger and the nuggets and they were phenomenal!
Overall we had a really great night and look forward to going back!
