I finally made it over to check this place out! I'll preface this next statement by saying we went after dark...this is not an easy venue to find! On the highway towards Woodbury, in what feels like the middle of nowhere, Hop Springs resides.
A bumpy gravel road leads up to the brewery. The evening we visited, they did have two, large generator powered lights to illuminate the front entrance from the highway, as well as the parking lot - which helped a LOT!
It had been raining and was starting to sprinkle snow, so the gravel parking lot was full of mud craters that we were easily able to dodge. Be warned, the polished concrete in the foyer leading up to the main doors is very slick when it is wet!
The tap room is beautiful with high ceilings and lots of wood work all around; a stage for entertainment, plenty of room for a dance floor, tables and chairs throughout with more room to spare. There are also several garage doors leading to patios on both the side and the back.
I noticed the bathroom stall door didn't latch, so I tried another stall...it didn't latch either. A little later I learned from another a different stall's door also wasn't latching. While us ladies were discussing this, we learned the men's stall doors don't latch either and apparently have huge gaps between the frame and the door. Anyway....
I like their digital menu board which shows all the bevvys currently available on tap, the sizes and pricing for each, as well as how much is left in each of the kegs.
I opted for Mantra's Edtima Honig Hafer, which is their brown ale with maple and honey. It wasn't my favorite brown I've ever had, and it is not nearly as sweet as it sounds like it would be. At $4.00 for 8oz. the price is steep!
It was rather busy the night we visited, and initially we could not find a table for our party of three. However, the General Manager happened to be standing nearby and quickly grabbed us a table from outside, three chairs, and even a tablecloth from the back. Such service!
It's been rumored they do or will have a dog park, frisbee golf and hiking trails here, so I'm looking forward to visiting again during the day to see the rest of the property.
