Belgian Waffle Cafe and Beer Bar Breeze Into North Park - Eater San Diego

"Its Brussels waffles have beer incorporated into the batter, just one of the house brews made for the eatery by Hopnonymous Brewing Co., whose owner Remy Zurita is a fellow Frenchman. Focused on producing private label beers for bars and restaurants, including a lager, hazy IPA, and peach-apricot sour for Belgian Beer & Waffle, the brewery will be taking over Council Brewing’s Kearny Mesa facility." - Candice Woo

This brewery is hands down one of the best spots in San Diego! The beer is absolutely delicious--some of the best I've had in the area. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming, and the owner goes out of their way to make you feel at home, which really adds a personal touch. I love the fun rotation of food trucks, so there's always something new and tasty to pair with the brews. Between the games, activities, and overall good vibes, it's the perfect place to hang out with friends or just relax. Highly recommend checking it out!

Google
By far my favorite brewery in SD! Good people, great environment and the owner Remy is a solid guy. Always feel welcomed here. Beer selection is great and always a good time. Today I got the razzle dazzle sour and it was delicious! Definitely worth the visit.

Clayton Lucas

Google
This place is what SD breweries are all about! Great beer, friendy crowd , Padres game always rolling and even a guy outside making pizzas. 🍕🍻

Google
Fantastic small craft brewery. Open later than many of the other breweries in the area. The location is super convenient, and there is a ton of parking. Every single time, it's a wonderful experience visiting this brewery. They have a wide variety of beer to choose from. Something for every pallette. Their Imperial Stouts some of the very best around. There is also a huge variety of IPAs of all types to choose from and a Belgian or two. The beer is reasonably priced. The inside of the brewery has a welcoming vibe. There is lots of room to find a seat or stand around if you prefer. There is also an outdoor area for people to go gather and drink at as well. Some days there are food trucks. They always have small brewery snack available.

Google
Hopnonymous consistently has delicious drafts and great staff. We’ve been coming for a few years now, and just recently hosted our engagement party of 40 people in the outdoor patio. Rémy, the owner, was so helpful and kind in our planning process. We especially love that he didn’t charge an event fee, just required a 2 drink minimum for our party. The staff checked on us consistently and the whole night was seamless. Hopnonymous has been our favorite neighborhood brewery for years and Rémy is the absolute best. Thank you Hopnonymous!

Google
Hopnonymous is the best and always the best time. Such a fun atmosphere and Remy (the owner) is a very special human that loves his customers dearly. The beer is great and there's always something new to try. The food truck options are abundant and constantly changing.

Raleigh Moody

Google
I just love this little craft brewery. It has the feel of your comfy neighborhood bar, except it has fresh craft beer. The owner, Remy, is super friendly, and the other beertenders all follow his lead in that regard. I love that I can stop in and there are always good tunes playing. I love that they always seem to have something on tap with New Zealand hops or a tasty San Diego IPA.

Chris

Google
Awesome atmosphere, has a beer for every palette and great service. Does get busy and crowded so they are doing something right.

Yelp
Been here before, but decided to stop on our way home for a brew. Looks like they're expanding!!! Anyway, great decor, fun conversations, table games, and GREAT beer/seltzer. Love seeing their continued success, the owners are a great pillar of the community!

Yelp
This is a quality business owned and operated by a quality businessman and friend. I didnt know Remi before starting to come here- but my time here has revealed to me that his primary goal is for all to feel welcome here. On the beer (& other bev) menu offering side- I've only enjoyed everything I've tried- very cool taster boards btw- and cool merch. Servers are smiling and happy to serve you. Tell them Uncle Tommy sent you!! Or just chill and watch the game or enjoy the great tunes.

Yelp
San Diego is known for the beer scene and Hopnonymous is one of the best. They have a large menu with something for everyone. They have plenty of seating inside and outside (covered by a tent for those rainy or extra sunny San Diego days.) My personal favorite is the Juice Box Hero seltzer or the Thai-my of my life mango sour. They will let you taste the beers until you find one that you like. They take pride in their beers. Remy the owner is the kindest person you'll meet and goes out of his way to greet you when he sees you. He will pull out tables and chairs for you of he sees you standing and checks in with everyone to make sure everyone is having a good time and enjoying their beer. There is a daily food vendor that sells food outside in case you get hungry. They change every month and are always delicious and pair well with beer. You can't go wrong with Hopnoymous!

Yelp
Hangar-style brewery with open windows, nice rustic decor with pops of bright, neon colors. There's plants and some games inside. There's also outdoor seating with heated lamps underneath tents. Beer is cheap and tastes satisfying after a long day of work. This was a fun place to come unwind with my coworkers. There were lots of dogs around from other friendly patrons that entertained us. There's a different food truck parked outside everyday. The one we went to on Friday had pizza and they were soooo good.

Yelp
This place is so fun! Came here during thanksgiving week. Parking/location - in a business center hidden Decor - cool decor. open front bar that has such cool handmade games. My kids and friends loved all the games. There's so many creative ones that we were so impressed. There's an indoor area and an outdoor area. All areas have couple games that were very entertaining. Service - amazing! the owner was so nice. He greeted us (shook our hands) and talked with us and our kids. He thanked us for coming and wished us a happy holiday. They were just setting up the Christmas tree so they gave all our kids ornaments to draw on. He gave us all art supplies to make the ornaments. He even complimented my kids on their ornaments. He helped our kids put up their christmas ornaments. We were the first to put it up. He was so personable. Really appreciated all the warm hospitality. Drinks - we got couple beers and sampler ones. Everything was good. They also sold food outside and there were people grilling. The food looked good but we didn't buy it. Next time we will. Everyone at the place was so nice.. even the other customers. Thank you for such a fun time!

Yelp
Thai Me of my Life mango sticky rice kettle sour, Better Off Alone DDH Hazy for the win! This small unassuming hole in the wall type place is a true hidden gem of San Diego craft beer! Along with Remys' awesome customer service, the vibe is right .. got some tasty grub from the visiting food trucks.. And something tells me this Wednesday night is going to be alright!

Yelp
This is hands-down our new most favorite brewery. It's located in a business park on the "back side" of the Convoy/Clairemont area, tucked away where you wouldn't expect a brewery to be, but it's definitely worth the jaunt. We're fans of every single thing about this brewery. Beers, people, vibe, hell, even the bathrooms get a thumb's up from us. On our very first visit, the owner took the time to greet us, answer our questions and suggest a pint based on what we were looking for. On our next visit he stopped by our table to shake my husband's hand, give me a hug and pat the pup on the head, all to welcome us back. The guys behind the bar have been friendly and fun to talk with, and the other customers have made us feel welcome and got us to laugh. I have two favorite brews here, as of right now (I'm sure it'll change as they update their menu.) The first is Thai-me of My Life, which tastes like a cup of mango sticky rice and is super easy to drink. The second is Slow Motion, which is an incredibly dangerous pour. I say that because it's listed as 12% ABV, but I had two of them after drinking two of the Thai-me of My Life pours and I felt fine. I mean, the night was blurry and I'm sure I was slurry, but I didn't feel like I'd just pounded two 12% ABV drinks in just under 90 minutes. I've also had the Leaving without Saying Goodbye (easy to drink, smooth flavor, roasted notes); Iris and the Giant Peach (tart, sweet, crushable) and the Two Amigos (not my favorite brew, a little too soapy for my liking). They have a rotating schedule of food trucks behind the building (where they also have extra seating, if you can't find anything inside.) On our two visits, we had a Mediterranean truck and an Asian fusion truck. Both were tasty and filling and helped sop up some of the alcohol in our systems. We haven't had a chance to go back recently because of work and weekend commitments and blah blah life (and those Uber Pet trips add up, man!), but we're absolutely planning our next stop while keeping an eye on their updated menu.

Yelp
Came in for a drink while having my window tint done next door. Bartender was accommodating for my 1st visit. I got the Slammin SD IPA. I enjoyed and will come back again. Atmosphere at 130pm on a Friday was chill and good times.
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
This is probably the best brewery in San Diego. The beers were top notch. The beertenders were awesome. Very attentive and constantly seeing if we were in need of anything. Their selection is great. They have a new beer every Friday for the most part. I travel all over the country and this is in my top 5 breweries probably in the top 2. I also home brew and even the head brewer came out and talked to us and even recommended breweries we could visit on our travels up the coast. You definitely need to come to this brewery if in the area. Also very cool atmosphere.

Yelp
Literally my favorite brewery in San Diego. The beer options are diverse and high quality. It's obvious that the owners take pride in their beer and their customer service. My husband and I come here weekly and enjoy the conversation with staff and other patrons, watching sports events, special events, trivia night, and of course the beer!! Remy is the most welcoming owner and the staff keep the house clean, pet friendly, and there is always a welcoming atmosphere every time we come in. They also have a great variety of yummy food trucks almost daily. It's also a great location for a group happy hour after work.
google avatar

Yelp
Found this place by accident while our car was being repaired. Hit the jackpot! Fun atmosphere, great service and really good beer! No food but there is a great sandwich place next door. They were more than happy to answer all my silly questions about brewing beer and made us feel very welcome. Great beer selection! Fun place to visit. We will be back:)
google avatar

Shawn T.

Yelp
Food truck in back good beer! The LOGO!! Looks just as the guy who's serving you .open air needs better chairs for the outside seating other than that. ENJOY.
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
Dope place. Hadn't been before as from out of town and was concerned they would all be overly hop centric but everything was balanced well with a great variety. Servers were super nice and introduced us to their many games that are also unique from other breweries/tap houses.
google avatar

Felipe G.

Yelp
Excellent brewery. Nice indoor space with plenty of seating and lots of seating they set up outside. They have rotating food trucks as well. Beer options are abundant with many IPAs, sours and seltzers. Staff is friendly and constantly checking up on you ti see if you need another pour. Great place and can't wait to return!
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
Fantastic, friendly service and chill vibe. Nice selection of beers for people who like beer other than IPAs.

Yelp
Being born and raised in San Diego, I have experienced so many wonderful breweries in this beautiful city. I can confidently say that Hop is hands down, the best. From the beer selection to the welcoming environment, this place hits every mark that matters. With a variety of different food trucks daily and an amazing staff, it's actually hard to have a bad experience here. The best beer, the best people, the best environment . I work in the Kearny Mesa area, so after a long day this place never fails to provide the best customer service. I haven't seen many places that care about the community as much as they do. Family friendly, dog friendly. Respectful. Does not tolerate rude or inappropriate guests. The owner is like family. Very involved in the community and always welcomes people in with great energy. He takes care of his staff and cares about everyone that walks in these doors. Cheers to you Rémy To sum it all up, I love this place and you will too!

Yelp
Currently my favorite brewery in San Diego. Huge selection of beers to choose from and their tap list rotates often. Plenty of space to hang out and lots of fun games to enjoy while you drink your beer and hang with friends. Theres seating indoor and outdoor. If you sit outside, keep eyes on your little ones and your dogs because cars do drive through the alley. There's always a food truck or food vendor of some sort on weekends, but you can bring your own food in as well. Kids and dogs are allowed inside the brewery. The beertenders have always been nice and will let you try a splash of something if you can't decide. They're also great at making recommendations. This has become our go to spot to meet up with friends whenever we're in town.

Yelp
Finally made it to Hopnonymous, and we love the variety, dog-friendly vibes, strong wifi, and large TVs. Gathered here with some friends to reunite, drink good beer, and watch a bit of soccer. We enjoyed all of the beers, and LOVE that they offer a flight of 6 for $16. Their flight board is so creative, it's a huge hop which is super funny. LOVED the Hazy IPAs (Phantastic Mr. Fox + Slammin), totally enjoyed their deliciously beautiful Let them eat pie PASTRY ALE WHAT IS THAT EVEN and Thai-me of my Life mango sticky rice sour WOW. SO juicy and flavorful. I'm in awe of their delicious creations. Shoutout to the sweet man who brought my dog a water bowl too, that was nice. I wish there were more picnic table seating indoors, but they have more tall bar stool tables, which is fine. Most people were standing around anyways. They also have Unisex restrooms which says a lot about the kind of brew folk behind the company name! I'll buy all the beer if that means I'm supporting a business that believes in human rights. We also enjoyed the Murillo's food truck that was there Saturday afternoon. The 4 rolled potato tacos were SOLID. So tasty and freshly made. In all, Hopnonymous is a great place to watch the World Cup and to catch up with some friends. Plus you'll definitely want to keep drinking all their delicious beers. Will definitely be back to Hopnonymous, and take some crowlers home.

Yelp
My husband and I came here on a weekday after a long day of work just to grab a few drinks and I was excited to go since my husband is a regular here. It was my first time going to this bar and I felt super uncomfortable with the environment I was in. There were men at the bar who were clearly already intoxicated when we came in and we noticed that the women bartenders continued to serve them drinks when they knew they were at their limit. As the night went on, my husband left a few times to use the restroom and I can see these 2-3 men gawking at me. I felt really uncomfortable due to the fact that I can hear them talking about my looks and mostly talking about my chest. Eventually, it got really uncomfortable and I couldn't handle it anymore so we left. These men should have been asked to leave since they were already too intoxicated but I guess this bar doesn't really care as long as they're getting more money from customers.
google avatar

Angela B.

Yelp
We came here on a Friday afternoon and it was packed with people and quite busy. Maybe I was more in the mood for low-key to wind down from work but it was still fun to people watch. The noise level was quite high as there were people watching a sports match on the TV. There were many choices for beer including a large 32 oz mug that you get to keep afterwards. There were three sour choices, one of which was off tap so I could not try it. The first was a mango and rice themed sour which was really really sweet. The second was the banana boat which was my preference out of the two.

Yelp
Amazing beer but that's all I remember from that day. I know it's a cool place and friendly

A. J.

Yelp
The venue is awesomely cool and very interesting to look at. Really enjoyed the decor and the vibes, and the people were super friendly. The beer was good as well. Ordered a flight and enjoyed the varieties and options offered.
google avatar

Yelp
I visited several breweries while on my first trip to San Diego, Hopnonymous was one of my favorites. The bartenders were very helpful and friendly. The beers was very good. The vibe was perfect. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Roxanne M.

Yelp
Friendly and fun. Good beer selection. Staff knows the product and can explain the different beer styles and finishes.
google avatar

Ed M.

Yelp
Something about the vibe here. Staff was super helpful helping me pick out a flight. Customers here were chill. Good hang out spot. I almost ended up at the Bullpen to catch the MLB playoffs but thankfully after doing a lap in their parking lot I gave up and decided to come here instead. Looks like they also have a food set up outside. Not sure if it's just one particular business that helps out there but on this night it was a soul food place. HBC has a good amount of sours to try out and I love me my sour beers. Half of the flight of 6 I tried out were sours. Total tab was $16 for the flight. Definitely coming back as this place was a cool place to hang during the wait out traffic hour.
google avatar

Hilda M.

Yelp
Great beer--elite level. Awesome, friendly crowd. Lots of room and very good pizza. The owner made it a point to speak to us directly. The staff is very attentive. I highly recommend this place to all. A gem!

Yelp
Congrats to Hopnonymous Brewing for their recent 2yr anniversary! I am so glad that they're thriving and producing a variety of delicious brews. Their ale game is strong, but there are also a couple of lagers, sours, and stouts in the mix to round out their offerings. We usually make the effort to check out a new release, or re-release of a fan favorite, and it's our new tradition to bring Hopnonymous crowlers for a road trip across state lines to share local flavor with friends. Check online and/or call ahead to verify food offerings. They do not have a kitchen, so a food truck or mobile vendor is usually scheduled to serve up snacks. We have enjoyed BBQ, mariscos, skewers, and other tasty street fare to pair with the beer selections. We always have a great time when visiting the tasting room. Service is friendly and someone checks up on us or makes the rounds to clear empty glasses. If you want to try a splash or have a beer question, they're more than happy to help you find something. Thank you to the team at Hopnonymous Brewing Company for making excellent beers and providing top-notch hospitality. Cheers!

Yelp
A solid place with solid beers and lots of games!!! I'm definitely not a big beer drinker however I genuinely appreciated that hopnonymous has a wide array of beer options and even seltzers if beer for some reason doesn't float your boat. By games I mean board games and some interesting interactive games as well. My only qualm is that there are only 2 single person bathrooms here otherwise this place is great
google avatar

Kim T.

Yelp
It was our first time visiting this brewery and was glad we gave it a try! The environment is casual and you can sit inside or outside in the parking/patio area. We ordered 2 flights to try as many beers as we can and ended up ordering a growler to bring home. The owner introduced himself because we were new guests and made the experience welcoming and fun. I would definitely come back and will be bringing a few friends along to try it out too.
google avatar

M L.

Yelp
Awesome spot! The beers are all solid and always so many to choose from! Staff is fantastic!
google avatar

Patrick S.

Yelp
This place embodies the hipster craft brew vibe that we all seek and long for. Hopnonymous operates out of a warehouse- which adds to its charm! I haven't tried a beer that I don't like yet, and I've tried a few!
google avatar

Julie C.

Yelp
We came here for the first time recently and loved the vibe - super laid back and had some fun games. Loved the beers we tried (Murk Diggler and Rindstone Cowboy). They had a ton of variety too if you're not the IPA type. The only gripe I had was that like many breweries, the only seats available are backless metal stools, which gets super uncomfortable very fast for me. Would still come back though!
google avatar

Vincent C.

Yelp
This brewery is definitely hidden and you could drive right pass it. I decided to check it out and it wasn't bad at all. There's a little sandwich spot next door which was pretty good. I never heard of this spot so I really didn't know what to expect. I ended up getting something like the Giant Peach and it was pretty tasty. I was impressed and would come here again!
google avatar

Luigi C.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and vibes!!! Lots of delicious beer and they have a spin wheel if you're indecisive on what to drink. Most importantly, they have different food/food trucks everyday so I'd advise yo to come here everyday to try out the different foods.

Yelp
A group of friends and I were looking for a family friendly brewery and Hopnonymous came highly recommended by a regular customer of theirs. Our group, which consisted of three kids and four adults, arrived around 3:30pm on Saturday and were greeted by friendly bartenders. After getting a couple of flights, we treated ourselves to Murrillo's Food Truck, which was incredible! The family owned Mexican food truck had one of the best enchiladas I've ever had! Now, back to the brewery... Hopnonymous had plenty of games that entertained the kids, and the staff brought out the corn hole when we inquired about it. Our day was unfortunately dampened when my 13 year old daughter was yelled at by a grown woman for "cutting in line" to use the restroom. She was upset by this encounter, but I will say this, the staff at the brewery handled it well. Cece, the head bartender, was polite and empathetic and assured me that she would take care of it. I followed up with an email to the brewery's general email and the next day, the owner, Remy, responded to my email with an apology and assured me that those people were no longer allowed in his establishment. Remy was not only responsive while visiting his family in France, but also kind and passionate about his business. He invited me to come back at a future date and introduce myself and I most definitely will take him up on his offer. The inappropriate behavior that occurred during our visit is in no way reflective of what this business stands for- a place that welcomes families, pets and all folks to enjoy some great beers, fun games and wonderful vibes. Thank you, Remy and Cece for taking my concerns seriously- I can't wait to come back and visit your fun brewery!
google avatar

Jennifer O.

Yelp
Given how many breweries are in San Diego, it's hard to really differentiate yourself. Hopnonymous does that. The service here is utterly fantastic. We have been here twice and both times we walked away wondering why we don't come here more often. Everyone working here comes across as so genuine and enthusiastic about their work, I can't compliment them enough! It can be hit or miss at most breweries - you'll like certain things and you won't like others - but this place stands out where literally everything we tried is at least 7/10 delicious. Tasting flight of 6 for $15 is a great deal. Try the blondie, pineapple ale, or tanninbaum if you have a chance - you won't regret it!
google avatar

Robert D.

Yelp
I have been coming to Hopnonymous for a few years now and it just gets better and better. The customer service is and has always been top notch, the beers never disappoint, the food vendors and events also compliment the brewery and its environment. Interestingly there was a review that said that they have "to fruity beer" which is interesting since there is a wide variety of beers on the menu, a good number without fruit, and while kid friendly you shouldn't leave your children to "run around" - thats what Chuck E Cheese is for. Again, incredible beer, incredible staff, and you'd be hard pressed to find much better; making this award winning brewery a must visit.
google avatar

Tash A.

Yelp
Hopnonymous is located in Kearny Mesa and has plenty of parking available. The staff are GREAT! Jeremiah and Remy were incredibly friendly and spent time talking to my group.Remy even brought water for my dog. Their beers are strong and delicious. Their sour and hazy IPA's are now some of my favorite beers. Their website has a list of their beers on tap. FYI their beers are brewed here too! I'm definitely going to recommend this place to others and I'll be returning for sure!
google avatar

Brianna L.

Yelp
Came here with my partner for the first time for a chill Friday night and we were welcomed right away by the owner named Remy! Plenty of parking and there is inside and outside seating. The Iris and the Giant Peach was amazing, not too bitter but also not too sweet. It is technically a garage area setting but very comfortable and decorated nicely. When we were closing out our tab, Remy was kind enough to offer us some samples of the mango sticky rice and two of their hazy's and they were all delicious! We will definitely be coming back here soon to try the rest of their IPA's :)

Espen C.

Yelp
Remy and the staff at Hopnonymous Brewing are terrific. I've never had a bad beer - or experience. The location is a bit remote from my normal haunts, but well worth the drive. Inside is fun -- -trivia, good music, great people. Congratulations to Riptides.club for the launch of your MLS SdFC supporters group. Our family is all-in for Hopnonymous Brewing!
google avatar

Eduardo G.

Yelp
Hopnonymous is my go to brewery and that says a lot for a city known for their beers. It's low key and welcoming and the staff and the owner are so kind and helpful. They have a large selection and their prices are fair. If you are indecisive in choosing they let you try a sip before you commit. It is a great place to grab a beer after work or get together with friends.
google avatar

Crystal H.

Yelp
Banana Boat Crew imperial tart ale! So good that I got 2 crowlers to-go. Very generous with samples here. We didn't even need to ask and the male staff offered some samples. Such great service and very welcoming. There were also some hazy IPAs. A lot of variety of beers to choose from. They have both outdoor and indoor seating. We came here on a Saturday night and there was a DJ playing progressive house music.
google avatar

Becky P.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and very addicting social games. They offer great service and you feel at home here! The owner or shift lead saw us and greeted us. We looked lost and he invited us in to get a seat! The offering of samples, very good. You can tell they actually try what they are serving. There are rotating food vendors weekly!
google avatar

Matt Y.

Yelp
If you want to time machine back in time to 2012-2015 San Diego when the beer scene was more startup this is one of the spots in SD. You will often see the brewers and owners running around and feel free to ask for a splash to determine your next pint. They want you to get something you like. Their board is amazing and they will talk beer with you. Note there is always something on the board you will like and enjoy, but the exact same beer made the exact same way isn't what this experience is about. Come out have a beer or 5 and take crowler of it home. Remy lives the beer brewer dream!

LS C.

Yelp
Great beer, low key vibe and local patrons are quite helpful and outgoing!! Friendly staff and live music...what more could you ask for?
google avatar

Vivian V.

Yelp
Honestly came here because we were headed to Societe near by which was open on paper but doors were locked up. We needed another brewery asap to go eat our takeout epic wings at and found this gem on Yelp. Staff was great and there's lots of games there. My dog was welcomed and my husband loved their Mexican lager. I had a great sour and one named Violet Brewvagard. Really great beers! We live in north county but may come back anyway!
google avatar

Gus C.

Yelp
Another amazing SD based brewery. The IPAs are dank, the mood is good, and the prices are just right. A highly recommended stop on your next brewery run!
google avatar

Madison F.

Yelp
My band, TuneSquad SD, played here on a Saturday 3-6pm and it was a great crowd of people. Everyone was in a good mood, dancing and singing. They had a taco stand 2-8pm, games, and music when we weren't playing. All-around good vibes!

Brandon S.

Yelp
Great beer, even better people. I have yet to find a place that makes a better, fruited imperial seltzer.
google avatar

Fabien U.

Yelp
I often go to Remy owner and operator of this brewery. Passionate about beer, this young Frenchman brings his blue white and red touch with tasty, original and colorful beers. He does not hesitate to make you taste his recommendations. I warmly recommend to stop by Remy if you are around Convoy Street ;) Also there is always a different food vendor in the evening ;) Good thing to know you can leave with your beer canned in front of you.
