A Kouignn Amann Superstar Is About to Open A Second Bakery | Eater SF

"Chef Kyle Itani doubles down on Epicurious Garden in Berkeley with this offshoot of his popular (now closed) Hopscotch, centered on fried and rotisserie chicken with two chicken sandwiches and sides like miso Caesar salad, kimchi fried rice, braised collard greens, and cheddar chive biscuits, joining his eponymous Itani Sushi." - Dianne de Guzman

Very disappointing. Fried chicken was black and was not hot. Extremely dry and lacked any seasoning. Potatoes were undercooked and tasted gross. Side of ranch was less than half full. This is one of the very few times that I can’t recommend the place. Krispy Krunchy chicken is way better for half the price. I actually had to go get good chicken the next day.

Breading fell off the soggy chicken with raw buttermilk dredge. Surprised that it was served cold /room temp. It felt as if it was baked and not fried. Buttermilk biscuits were dense but the flavor was good. Collared greens with miso was an acquired taste. Only highlight was the yuzu yoghurt. Would not revisit. Disappointing from its heydays in San Francisco.. hopefully the other resturant brands under the chef are better.

I stumbled into this fried chicken spot between classes, and wow — best decision all week. The chicken is perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, total comfort food vibes. I grabbed rice and collard greens on the side, and both were packed with flavor (the greens have that slow-cooked, soulful taste). Plus, the cheddar chive biscuit? Unreal. Soft, buttery, with just the right hit of cheddar. The whole thing hit the spot without slowing me down for the rest of the day. Definitely my new go-to for a quick, satisfying meal.

I went two days after they opened. I used to go to Hopscotch (sit down restaurant) when they opened and have fond memories of the chicken. This iteration is broached (pressure fried) and when I went the chicken came out of the fryer right as I ordered and was extremely hot and crispy. I had the beans and collards as side dishes and both were excellent. It's in a fancy food court, so in terms of atmosphere there isn't much, but I highly recommend heading out to the back garden to find a table!

My partner and I came here for a casual date night and sat outside on the patio — such a cozy, relaxed vibe. The star of the show, of course, was the fried chicken: golden, crunchy, and seasoned just right. We shared a spread of sides — rice, collard greens, a miso Caesar salad, and those heavenly cheddar chive biscuits (we ordered extras to take home). The food felt indulgent but elevated at the same time, and paired with the warm evening and good conversation, it made for one of our best nights out in Berkeley. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great food and a chill atmosphere.

Two people. We ordered the half rotisserie chicken combo - beans and waffle fries. Very tasty! Chicken was juicy and well seasoned.

I picked up lunch here before meeting my girlfriends at Indian Rock, and it was the perfect picnic spread. The fried chicken was still crisp and delicious even after the short drive, and it paired beautifully with the miso Caesar salad — fresh, tangy, and just a little different in the best way. The collard greens were tender and flavorful, and the cheddar chive biscuits practically disappeared the moment I opened the box. Everyone asked where the food was from because it was THAT good. A new favorite for our East Bay meetups!

Was super pumped to learn they re-opened after the Oakland location closed. Missed that buttermilk fried chicken and hot sauce. Was crispy and juicy just like I remembered. They're doing $25 buckets for all the Cal games. Will be seeing them Saturdays!
