I read previous reviews, they seemed to be mixed so I decided to try it and for myself. Most say the Mac and cheese isn’t that great…agreed! It doesn’t seem to be fully cooked (noodles very hard and cheese is clumpy and greasy. Whiting was underwhelming but you get a good portion. Don’t waste your money on the seafood salad, mine had three small shrimp, a few pieces of imitation crab and mostly tuna. Oh and the string beans were ok. Not sure how it has a 4 star rating but try for yourself.

Tucked away in a cozy corner of the neighborhood, Horace and Dickie's Seafood Carry Out is a hidden gem for seafood lovers seeking authentic flavors and a no-frills dining experience. This was my first time and last, buying food from this restaurant and I use the words 'restaurant' and 'food' loosely. I will never buy from them again. The food appeared to be old and refried. Key words 'Health Department'. 🍽️🚫🔍 #HealthFirst #FoodSafety

Google
I tried this location for the first time and was absolutely disappointed. The service could have been better. There was one person in the front while numerous of ppl walked back and forth out the kitchen to the back of the store (outside). He had to run outside to give out orders and take orders in the line. I went to try a pulled pork sandwich. What I got was absolute scraps. They even have a sign that says no refunds for food but they served poor quality of food. I was very disappointed and unsatisfied with my complete meal. They need to seriously do better I wasted my money and had to throw the whole entire meal away

Google
I visted on June 23, 2024, Sunday. The customer service was a joke, no greeting, no thank you. Nothing but what you want and the cost of it. Fried Whiting fish didn't have no seasoning, mac and chesse taste was awful, and greens were under cooked and salty. I won't waste my money again at this establishment. I try to spend my money at balck own businesses, but this is what I get..wow...

Google
They catered our mother's repast and did a fantastic job. The food was hot and fresh and they delivered well before the repast began. They set up everything and we didn't have to worry at all. They asked our budget and what we wanted and worked with us to find a menu that was commensurate with our resources. I will always thank them for that and the service they offer our community. Roy and the staff are great.

Wow its been a while since I had the pleasure of sitting down to some good ole fried fish!!! Y'all did it again 👏 everything was A-1 my hats off to the cook ! I use to patronize the H street ne location but as you know the parking over there is a straight beast .... this Landover spot is convenient, clean and killer !!!! I will be revisiting Y'all Friday keep up the awesome work !

Google
Never again will I waste time money or energy here. This is why it is so hard to support black business. Anytime, I order a combo especially a fish combo...it is understood that fish and bread go together. How do you have tarter sauce but no bread. I will not give my money away in this manner. People are on lunch and cannot chase their money up and down MLK Blvd. They are very ignorant when you call about your order. I don't care how hurt your feelings are. With the price that you put on the menu, there is no reason for this type of mess up and then have an attitude about the call back. The only thing you control is the action. You have no control over the reaction. You sent me my food messed up so I called mad because I am at work and that is wrong. The lady said that I didn't ask for bread with a fish COMBO. How do you not get bread with a 2 piece combo. Its a COMBO. It should have 2 fish 2 bread and french fries or coleslaw. I can't stand the fact that people can't let customer service be that. I don't understand people at all. My money is not lesser than your money. So please before you sell a combo make sure you know what a combo should have in it and stop stealing people money. I could understand if this was the first time but it's not. They make money off of cheating people. I am sorry but it is the truth and the truth is never wrong

Yelp
I had the catfish platter and it was amazing. The service was pleasant. Highly recommended

Yelp
It's maybe my third time here & my second experience of disappointment. TL;DR: I highly suggest that you check your order, especially your take out order thoroughly before leaving. THOROUGHLY! Don't do a quick check. Move your food items around to make sure they are accounted for. I ordered online which was fairly easy as the food system denotes what's in stock or sold out (this will be important later). I arrived & was handed my order; I wanted a printed receipt but the staff that handed me my order said he was heading out & to ask the cashier. I decided since I had to wait on the receipt to take a quick look at my order (it is plastered all over the store to check your order before leaving; I reallywantedmy dessert so I took heed). I noticed the cake that I ordered wasn't in the bag; just then the staff that handed me my order was coming back in the store. He asked had I gotten my printed receipt; I told him I was still waiting to be helped but I didn't see my cake. He said "oh, this is what happened, we ran out of what you ordered"...1. why not tell me that when you handed me the bag? Why leave it for me to "discover" when you knew it wasn't included? 2. Or why did the ordering system allow me to order it? (perhaps they had just run out of it) He allowed me to select another option. I checked & the other food items looked like they were accounted for.I got my printed receipt & left. It wasn't until I got home & was plating my crabby fries with shrimp that I noticed the shrimp wasn't there. I thought when I looked in the store that it was smothered under the crab dip. (The order was for crabby fries with shrimp, not the add-on option) The cost of food prices in general is high for orders not to be accurate. And while customers do bear a level of accountability, the establishment should too - even after the customer leaves. It was obvious to me that the staff knew my dessert wasn't bagged because it was sold out but handed it to me without alerting me anyway (the slice of cake is $6) & I don't know the story on the missing shrimp (which was an additional $4 more than just the crabby fries order). So had I not checked my order I could've been out about $10 of a $40 order because of the establishment's mistake. I didn't bother to return or call, I took the loss but I know, if there's a next time, to check my order thoroughly.

Yelp
Had a taste for some fried fish today! Ordered through the Grubhub app on Yelp and my order was ready in about 10/15 minutes. I drove up and whaaalaaaa- by passed the line and my order was ready! Todays order consisted of Fried Whiting, Mac and Cheese, string beans, potato salad, yams and seafood salad. I'm going to pay for this later!! Cheat meal that was well worth it! Happy Yelping!

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
My cat fish combo with collard greens and seafood salad was mediocre at best. The cat fish was not crispy and lacked seasoning. The sides were also moderately okay. The cost was expensive for the quality of food.

Kyra H.

Yelp
I went out of my way to eat here today as I remember in my 10's patronizing the one on h street after a night out and it was memorable. Now that I've been to this location in a sound state of mind I'm wondering if the intoxication had it tasting good last time. I ordered the fried whiting sandwich with French fries with hot sauce in the bag. They forgot the hot sauce and gave me nothing but tartar sauce and a lot of it ewwwwww who eats tartar sauce. The fries were the thin seasoned fries which I despise and although they gave me 4 pieces of fish so a lot for the cost of $10 I couldn't eat 2 of them due to it being too hard. The fish was overcooked for how thin it was and had no taste or seasoning. I asked for old bay and was told they didn't have any....ive never been to a seafood spot and they not have old bay I can't even fathom that like aren't you putting at least a sprinkle in the flour. I guess not which now makes sense why the fish was so bland. I won't be back, I gave two stars because the lady that took my order was friendly. Also the sweet tea is more of a purple color which is so weird to me and literally diabetes in a cup.

Deb W.

Yelp
I was totally excited to visit this highly regarded business. Service was great. The lady left a wonderful first impression. Now let's discuss this food. The sticker shock was shocking but is it worth it? The cornbread came in a ziplock lock bag. Left me wondering if it was made on site or if someone delivered it. Don't drink the tea... if you don't want diabetes. I love sweet drinks so for me to say it's was terribly sweet, is to say a-lot Now why do these yams look like this and smell of sugar? Just the way they look, they tasted even worse. Great, more sugar!!!!. The Mac and cheese was not it. I'm not sure who or why they made this but I'm again disappointed! But the crab cake saved the day!! Would I go back absolutely not but I can cross it off my list

Master J.

Yelp
I went here for lunch today and though the location has change the quality and service of the food is still the same. I missed the long lines that would be out the door at the dc location. Lol. I got the three piece whiting sandwich.

Christina R.

Yelp
I'm truly very sadden to leave this review! I went to this location this past Friday "Good Friday" and the food was horrible! I purchased a whiting platter with 2 sides. The mac and cheese was disgusting and the coleslaw was horrible. The coleslaw had an abundance of celery seeds which made it inedible. The fish was subpar but the only thing I could eat out of the entire platter. The staff was nice even with it being very crowded. And the only thing good about the location. The food really needs some work BAD!!!!

Nille P.

Yelp
I placed an order via Toast for pickup. My husband picked it up for me, so I don't know what the inside looks like. I ordered whiting/wing combo with green beans and coleslaw. I didn't really like any of the food. The whiting had no flavor, but the texture was good. The wings were a little tough as if they were refried or under a heat lamp. The green beans were a tad salty, but ok. The coleslaw had no flavor either. Overall, it wasn't good enough to return.

Kelli A.

Yelp
Tried this place from Uber eats and it was decent. I got the crab fries which were delicious. Huge crab meat chunks and sauce they use is so good. Fries are nothing to rave about to me but overall I would get again. Was not a fan of their wings. They weren't bad just didn't hit for me.

Bredell W.

Yelp
After a long day of work , I decided to give this place a try. I ordered the Fish & Wing Combo (2pc whiting, 2pc chicken wing). My sides were collard greens & yams. My favorites from the dish was the yams and the chicken . I took between 5-10mins for me to receive my food. They have an outdoor seating area. That's where I enjoyed my food. Overall I'm happy for giving this place a try.

Danita W.

Yelp
I ordered from here two weeks ago and was really looking forward to a great meal as had before. Unfortunately it did not meet the expectations as the mac and cheese and greens lacked seasoning. The shrimp and crab cakes were the best part of the meal. The side order of hush puppies were dry and over cooked. Additionally, the lemonade and half and half were extremely sweet and required more water to dilute them. I will not write off yet but will take a break to put pass the experience.

Audrey S.

Yelp
I placed my order over the phone. The person who took my order was friendly and informed me that my order would be ready in 10 minutes. At this time, they are requiring for orders to be paid for at the time that you place the order- have your card ready. I was provided with my order number over the phone and received a text message to confirm my order as soon as it was placed. I wasn't far from the Glenarden location and it took less than 10 minutes for me to arrive. When my order was ready, I received a text message and a phone call. If nothing else, they provide great customer service and orders are fulfilled in a timely fashion. I ordered the chicken wing platter with hot sauce and mumbo sauce. All platters come with two sides. I chose macaroni and cheese and string beans Overall, my food was underwhelming and I was disappointed. The wings were a pretty nice size but they lacked seasoning. I added seasoning once I got home and ate them with hot sauce and mumbo sauce. The string beans were over cooked. The macaroni and cheese missed the mark. Honestly, I'm hoping today was just a bad day for the kitchen staff. I'll visit again in the future in hopes of having a better experience.

Ken C.

Yelp
So i have visited this restaurant several times and ever time the customer service has been great. I have ordered several different things from there menu and have been pleased with everything. But them greens are to die for. Please keep up the great work.

Lisa F.

Yelp
don't waste your money or time. food is terrible, fish is old, sides i can't describe them too you. go to the shopper's right down the highway, purchase you some fish and cook it yourself. u would enjoy better then "this horace and dickies.....

Mrs. Tiffany H.

Yelp
Paid $40 for two dinners - Scallops & Catfish Dinner. The scallops were extremely small and not work $18.99! Food is okay, but for the price, you midas well just go to Jerry's seafood in Bowie, sit down and have a nice seafood platter or meal! Take a look at the pics to see more!

Jordan M.

Yelp
I ordered the whiting platter and it was quite good. For the DC natives it may not be on H street anymore but it's still damn good! I had the hush puppies and collard greens as sides and they were both delicious. I like this location quite a bit. It's a bit expensive ( at least on Uber eats) Definitely worth a try; I'll definitely be back!

Robert F.

Yelp
I stopped here for the ribs. Some were too tough to chew, others were good. You roll the dice when you get the ribs.

Kim H.

Yelp
Great customer service and great food! The staff is always friendly and the fish is always good & hot! I had the fish & chicken combo with greens & cornbread. Everything was delicious!

Land S.

Yelp
Horace and Dickies is trash... old smelling fried fish. The fish was overly breaded, old and smelly.

Hammed A.

Yelp
I'm saddened to give Horace and Dickies a 3* considering I have experience with all of the franchise locations in the DMV including the old location on 12th Street NE and the 4th Street NW location. This location in Glendarden, MD is the relocation of the 12th Street NE location. I appreciate this location because for once adequate parking is available at a Horace & Dickie's which was never the case at any other other locations in its history. The ordering process here is also much more patron-friendly compared to the other locations. What you will experience here is a traditional and customary takeout ordering experience where you are greeted by an employee, your order is taken and cash is tendered. The 12th Street NE location quite honestly, and it troubles me to say this, had way too many of its employees on casual-time, on the clock while tending to customers, which made the ordering and check-out experience annoying. This location, although an upgrade on the customer service side however the food quality has decreased. If you know Horace & Dickies then you know they are known for perfectly fried whiting fish. I don't know what happened but the texture and crispiness of the fried fish isn't the same. It's not a bad fry; it's just lacking crispiness. It seems their fried menu items in general are missing the element of crispiness that the 12th Street location was known for. To me that is a big deal because if fried food doesn't have a level of crispiness then it can dangerously tote the line of soft fried which needs to be consumed almost immediately. A good takeout seafood option here on this side of PG County, however not a competitive entry nor is it reminiscent of the old 12th Street NE location. Give them a try.

Marlo J.

Yelp
Skippppp the trip on this one. I ordered a whiting platter from this spot. Personally, the sides lacked flavor but "to each his own" on that. I was a little disappointed that my fish was soggy. Most importantly, as I was eating the greens, something felt off like I was being scratched or something. I was very disturbed to discover that there was METAL in my greens. What if I had accidentally swallowed the pieces??

Kimberly C.

Yelp
Ribs were unseasoned and a bit tough... The cake was just ok.. I'm a bit disappointed... Stick with the seafood..

Richard W.

Yelp
Fresh Fish cooked to order, no heat lamps, no steam tables...did I say cooked to order...YES PLEASE. Horace and Dickies located in Glenarden Md on MLK Hwy is an outstanding place to get cooked to order fish with or without sides. My Fish sandwich was huge, several pieces of perfectly cooked whiting filets, nicely seasoned, with a light breading, not greasy and the perfect amount of crunch when you bit into it. Choice of white or wheat bread with hot sauce, no heat and tarter sauce. Cashier who took my order was very friendly, she took my phone number and asked me to wait outside. A few minutes later I received a text stating my food would be ready in 10 minutes, exactly 10 minutes later Horace and Dickies employee called out my number and I happily collected my food and ate in my car. Be patient when you visit, line may be long, I can remember standing in lines at the original Horace and Dickies on H St. NE, food is cooked to order, so it is not fast food; but if you are patient you will be rewarded with a delicious meal with large portions that is cooked to perfection.

Erma F.

Yelp
Local & popular seafood spot. Always hosted the DC location so glad there's one close to my area in PG County. Great hot fried fish!!!

Robert F.

Yelp
Stopped by for Mothers Day and sooo glad I did. I ended up getting 4 Fish entrees. This is how fish is supposed to taste!! I was a regular at H street. The service was on point. Service was so good I ended up getting some dessert as well. Good Job H&D!!!

Andrew J.

Yelp
I have Horace and Dickies plenty off times, starting with the original as a kid on H St. I can say that you still do get a good amount of food for a good price. However, I was expecting seasoning. I had the fried fish platter with mac and cheese and collard greens. The fish is always fried golden brown. The sides were not what I expected as far as flavor. I tend to like more seasoning than usual so I may be biased. This is a great spot to get seafood and you will get what you pay for. I will continue to be a customer at Horace and Dickies. Please give them a try for yourself.

Christeen W.

Yelp
I want too if I can get fish and wings potatoes salad g fry for 150 people and how much it will cost on the 8th of july this dleant mean a thing but I grew up with horess cant spell so how much can you do it

Viola G.

Yelp
Not like to old H&D. Food was horrible. They didn't complete my order and would not refund those items. Disappointment.

Sandra R.

Yelp
This is not the horace and Dickies from H street! A huge disappointment. The fish is not cooked to order. Always cold and have no taste! The cornbread is the best thing they have besides the crunch cake! Only go there if you want cornbread and cake. I heard they have ribs as well. I am not sure about the ribs. But everything else. Stay away!

Robin S.

Yelp
I tried this location for the first time and was absolutely disappointed. The service could have been better. Da C.

Yelp
I don't mind supporting local businesses but I'm convinced that they are using lab made fish. The texture of their whiting was not right. The food is overpriced and for what I got, I could bought it at the supermarket. This was my second time. The staff are very nice. But the food was not right today.

Dee P.

Yelp
The fish tasted like it was cooked in old grease and the bread was molded. Once I got home and opened the bag, I called back to inform them and all that was said was 'oh ok'. After patronizing them since they opened, I was very disappointed. I'm going to pause on them for a while.

Adrion W.

Yelp
Order the tips and half chicken. Unfortunately, both were very under seasoned. In addition, the grill must have been over heating (burning) because both tasted and looked like sut on the meat. The meat should have been thrown away. Very disappointed. Customer service was very nice and welcoming.

Carla B.

Yelp
One of my biggest pet peeves is not being acknowledged when I enter an establishment. I stood in the store for three minutes (too long) before the lady at the front looked up or said anything. I placed my order, gave my phone number, and went back out to my car to wait. I was told that I would get a text when the food is ready but instead they were calling order numbers when they were done. They didn't give out order numbers initially so the process was pretty unorganized. I got my food after about a 30 minute wait. I ordered the fish and chicken combo with macaroni and cheese and yams. The taste was OK. The chicken still had feathers so if that bothers you, steer clear. The fish was pretty bland, the yams were ok, and the macaroni tasted like the plastic container it was in. I've been once before and had a good meal so maybe this was an off night for them. I want to say I would try again but, I don't know.

Suzanne W.

Yelp
Visited this location after a long cycle ride through the area. Very friendly staff and fast service. I ordered the Shrimp Platter with hush puppies and Mac&Cheese. Everything was delicious! Will definitely return to try other menu items in the future.

Lise J.

Yelp
It has been a while since we ate at HND. Was looking forward to a great meal, unfortunately it was less than. The fish and sides had no taste/ flavor. The ribs were subpar. Topping it all off it gave me and my daughter 2 days of food poisoning. Im thinking it was the collard greens. Will not be returning and it's sad bc in the past their food was on point and we always try to support our Black owed Businesses!

Chuck B.

Yelp
The food is always consistent and the service . The young lady who was the cashier was nice enough to tell me to order directly on their site to have a better priced menu versus the third party services .

Shakema C.

Yelp
Welcome to PG COUNTY!! We been waiting for you!! Lines are long so pack your patience. They open up at 10 am so I would highly recommend getting their when they first open. They are really practicing social distance to the point they ask for your cell phone and you sit in your car and they will text you when your order is ready and deliver to your car. The food is DELICIOUS. They still give you large portions of fish! The potato salad, greens and cornbread is my favorite. The Mac n cheese was ok. The cakes were delicious as well. Great customer service! The fish can last you a couple of days. There's no phone orders or online orders at this time. They been open for 1 week now and the lines will continue for a long time. GO TO DICKIES!!!

Robert B.

Yelp
I ordered delivery on the Whiting fish meal with collard greens and hush puppies! I was disappointed to find the fish overcooked and dry, the collards were undercooked and the hush puppies were hard!! This may have been a rarity, but I will not be going back!!

Keith B.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant for the first time this morning and ordered two fish sandwiches. I remember how good the H St. location in D.C. used to be when I ate there years ago. The Glenarden restaurant is clean and the young man who took my order was very polite/professional. However, the fish did not taste fresh, it wasn't crispy, with little to no seasoning. As a result, I threw the sandwiches away after a few bites. Understandably the prices have increased; so, I paid $25 for the two sandwiches. If the sandwiches had been good, they would have been well worth the price. In this case, it was a fail. I do not recommend this restaurant. However, I hope it will improve and I'm am praying for its success.

Annemarie S.

Yelp
I used to eat at Horace & Dickies when it was on H St NE, always enjoyed the food, they cooked it right in front of you. I always had a good experience -- then it closed, I was so disappointed. I was driving in Glenarden MD last night and saw a restaurant, decided to stop in. Big mistake! The food couldn't have been worse, not at ALL what I was used to from the DC take out. I usually ordered the fried shrimp it was always sooo good. At the Glenarden store not at all. I guess the mistake I made was waiting until I got back to DC to eat. The shrimp was sooo full of oil I had to use multiple napkins per shrimp to absorb the oil. It wasn't dry and crunchy and flavorful as I was used to it being. The sides I got were mac&cheese and potato salad, the salad was actually quite good. The mac&cheese not at all. The macaroni was way over cooked, and without flavor. I couldn't have been more disappointed, I had made it home and it was late, there was no going back. Needless to say that was my first and last visit, I won't waste any more money at that location -- but doubtful that I will try another location either.

Gita G.

Yelp
I moved out of the area almost a year ago, and had been waiting patiently for this spot to open, since seeing that they were coming to the area. I was in the area and decided to go visit about 2 weeks ago. It took me a while to visit, because I had been hearing mixed reviews about this location. I was a frequent visitor at the DC location, even though it was a hole in the wall, the food was always delicious. I was craving fish so I decided to give it a try, I'm so glad I did. I ordered the fish platter, with 2 sides, which I got yams and hush puppies.. They both were delish, I loved the hush puppies so warm and crispy on the outside, the inside lightly sweet corn with the perfect texture. The yams were smooth and fluffy, not too sweet, perfect for my taste, and about the fish, yep just as great as the rest of my order hot and fresh, fried just right........ No complaints in my book, will definitely revisit again.

Yelp
I've heard rave reviews about Horace & Dickies so we decided to give it a try for dinner. We ordered the catfish dinner with hush puppies and collard greens and crab fries with shrimp. Overall everything was bland. The catfish was not crisp or crunchy and lacked flavor, I had to use siracha to give it some flavor. The hush puppies were just okay, I also added siracha. I was really disappointed in the greens because the woman said they were really good, but they also had no flavor at all. My boyfriend had the crab fries and they visibly had seasoning and sauce on them but were just okay in my opinion, he did like them and said he will order them again. Overall, I've heard great things about Horace and Dickies so, I will give them a second chance in the future, keeping my fingers crossed that they take it up a notch with the flavor.

Yelp
Consistent. Their fried whiting sandwich is the bomb. On wheat bread, addcoleslaw, Tatar sauce and their hot sauce and it's what's known at the H Street location as the big momma special and it's sooo good. And I don't even like Cole slaw! I've been going to H&D for maybe 15 years and love that they are popping up everywhere

Yelp
Be prepared to get your coat on and rev the engines! We went to Horace and Dickies tonight for dinner. It's a carry out joint in a tiny strip mall but don't let that fool you. More often than not there's a line out the door because folks love it. Don't worry. Scan the menu and make you choices and I promise it'll go quickly. Okay now get close, on this night we picked the whiting dinner. It has about 5 pieces of fish along with two sides. Plenty for two people. The fish is fried to a delicate crisp. Crunchy on the outside, flaky fish on the inside. We selected the potato salad and the cole slaw for our sides. Both were lovely sides that complimented the fish nicely. Our son had the fish sandwich which had equally enough fish along with two pieces of wheat bread and French fries. It must have been good because he was quiet the entire time!!! That's a teenage boy I guess! Anyway, try them out and if you love it awesome! We sure did!

Yelp
Food taste horrible! I contacted them weeks ago and nobody reached out. The fried fish taste like old dried up dirty grease like they just don't change the grease. It had no flavor at all. It tasted like diabetic food. The Mac n cheese was very plain and dry. The greens weren't as good either and the mixed drink was sugary

Yelp
Very sorry to hear about the loss of Mr Richard Shannon "Dickie" of Horace and Dickie. He will certainly be missed but never forgotten! Love your food! It's time for a road trip from Prince William county Virginia! Hope to see you soon!

Yelp
Not only is the food good but I was impressed with their socially distanced plan to serve us. The plan was so smooth that I received hot food fast! They have a steady flow of a high volume of patrons, so I chose to go mid-week just before rush hour. Friendly service and I liked the new icees they sell.
