I had a superb dinner last night at an old favorite, the Horn Harbor Restaurant.
It's been a while since I was there, but it felt good being in comfortable surroundings where I know they'll take care of me. I even got my favorite window seat to watch the sun set across the water through.
I like the fact the decor remains unchanged.
They had Rockfish Imperial on the specials menu, and I nearly went with that. It is just a fabulous dish, with crab imperial on a big slab of tasty rockfish.
Instead, I went with the Sea Food Delight, which is a big pile of fettuccini noodles with 3 big shrimps, bay scallops, and clams under a very tasty parmesan sauce.
The clams are the star of the show and I was served 27 wonderful clams - ohh, they were sooo good!
I know there was 27 because I brought the shells home with me and just counted.
The shrimp is good, but there's no scallop-y taste to the scallops. I suspect they are not bought locally.
This meal will stuff you, believe me.
The service was very good, although I did not see Hannah, who, over the years, has done an excellent job of keeping things organized, so there was some lack of organization and tunnel vision among the servers. The restaurant was 2/3 - 3/4 full when I arrived on a Saturday night and the older crowd seemed pretty happy.
Having enough servers was an issue of the past, but not the present.
They tell you on the menu they'll seat you up till 8:30, but really, get there by 8 to have plenty of time enjoy your meal and relax.
I got there about 8:15 last night, and was pushing it, but they were really nice about the approach of closing time, and made me feel I was welcome to stay later.
Folks should also check out their little gift shop to the right of the front door where they have a very good selection of nautical items for sale.
