This Food-Filled Road Trip Celebrates East Tennessee's Appalachian Culture | Bon Appétit

"An adorable farm market and nursery celebrated for hyper-seasonal produce and goods—fall apples, sweet potatoes, gourds, fresh-baked bread and pastries, plants and seeds—and for stocking excellent local dairy like Cruze Farm and Sweetwater Valley, making it a reliable way to support local producers." - ByCassidee Dabney, as told to Kate Kassin

Horn of Plenty Marketplace in Maryville is a TRUE hidden gem for food enthusiasts and those looking for high quality produce & specialty groceries. AND, I can't forget to mention their amazing selection of flowers!!! My last purchase of Roses for ourselves & Mother's Day are growing beautifully! This charming store has left a wonderful impression on our family! First thing when I walked in, was greeted with a genuinely friendly Hello! Then aroma of freshly baked bread and the sight of vibrant produce. The store is VERY WELL organized, making it a joy to explore each aisle. Their selection of specialty items is truly exceptional. From artisan cheeses and gourmet chocolates to organic spices and unique condiments, Horn of Plenty offers an impressive variety that caters to diverse culinary preferences. Dwayne and the staff are knowledgeable and also incredibly friendly, always ready to provide recommendations. Their clear commitment to sourcing locally when possible & directly buying from farmers is so refreshing. It's clear that they prioritize customers and quality. The emphasis on supporting local farmers and artisans is commendable. The pricing may be slightly higher than standard grocery stores, but the superior quality of products justifies the cost. If you're in the area and love farm fresh produce & products, this place is a must visit!! SEE YA AGAIN SOON!

I have shopped at Horn of Plenty for over 30 years. Fresh high quality fruit & vegetables & hardy plants. Recently, Horn of Plenty has started charging a 3.9% 'Convenience Fee' on my EBT card. I've ask Dwayne about this 3.9% 'Convenience Fee'. Ive always had much respect for him. He is a hard working business owner. He explained it's out of his control. It's not a choice for me to use my EBT card to pay for my food. If a business owner doesn't want to accept EBT, thats thier choice. A sign declaring a 3.9% 'Convenience Fee' should be posted in site, before purchases with cards are made. After further investigation: it is Illegal, on a federal level, to charge anyone a Fee for using a thier EBT on SNAP card. Please, do better Dwayne!

Broadway and Magnolia is a busy place. I make traffic nervous. Horn of Plenty Marketplace has plenty of stuff. The Kentucky watermelons are expensive. It must cost money to get the seeds out. But I found some other stuff and they have too many plants. Noah and Sherrie were nice and let me in early so I didn't have to come back. If I were you I would just wait till they are open cause they are busy beforehand.

It’s magical I used to live 1 block away and I could go daily for fresh vegetables, bread and Amish butter. Pickled beets, sauerkraut. So fresh sourdough bread and sweets. They have cheese with flavors i:e garlic or pimento cheese, herbs. If you eat from there you will be healthy. I now live in Alcoa and I drive once a week. Please, save your life and eat from Horn of Plenty.

Google
Fantastic local market with some of the best quality local produce and products. Local restaurants use this place for their produce, as do so many locals. All the plants are grown in Tennessee so are always acclimated to the area. Very helpful staff.

Yelp
This really is such a lovely place. A local grocery store, if you will. A variety of fresh fruit, vegetables, honey, milk, nuts, homemade jams & jellies, really, they have it all!! They've got lots of different local items throughout the area. Everyone here is so nice and helpful, that I am definitely coming back! From the young man who helped me pick out a seedless watermelon to the gal at the register. This is now my new favorite local place.

Yelp
Very nice market. Many options. They have produce, milk, breads, candy and other offerings. We stopped here to find our favorite go to for produce and goods. The staff are very friendly and nice. The price is a little higher than I anticipated but you are supporting local business and local farmers. The quality was amazing and worth the price listed.

Yelp
Love to shop here. Always fresh produce and a great selection. They even have white half runner green beans most of the time. Lots of flowers at reasonable prices.

Yelp
Great selection of veggies, baked & canned goods. Loved their spicy beets and pumpkin butter!

Yelp
Great place for farm fresh produce. They also have canned goods like jams, jelly's, salsa, relish etc... There's candy bins full of ole time goodies too! The staff is always kind and helpful. This is my go to for everything fresh!

Yelp
Great little shop for local and regional produce, on West Broadway not very far from downtown. A number of local dairy products, including Cruze Farm buttermilk, the best buttermilk I know of anywhere around here. Local honey. A challenging selection of dried beans. And outside, a nice selection of garden plants, including quite a number of carnivorous plants - my Sarracenia flava has grown monstrously in its second year. The store is small and crowded, and handicapped accessibility as well as parking is limited - get someone to check in advance if you have these issues (my wife does).

Yelp
The employees are polite and the produce is of high quality and well-priced. It's a great local business that I recommend and that I'll continue to support.

Yelp
Love the Horn of plenty - they have fresh beautiful produce all year long. Yes, you can have a great tomato in February. They also have local honey and other farm stand goodies including apple cider doughnuts and milk in glass bottles!!!!!

Yelp
Great prices on really fresh and delicious produce! This was my first time and they were very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is the shopping carts don't have space for my baby to sit, but it's too small in there for full sized carts. Next time I'll be bringing the baby carrier! We got pears, eggplant, cantaloupe, and okra for $6. The cantaloupe is the best I've ever had! So sweet and juicy. We'll be back soon!

Yelp
I've driven through this cute neighborhood many times and finally had a few minutes to stop at Horn of Plenty. It was a beautiful spring day and the bright and cheery flowers out front called to me. I enjoyed the unusual selection of flowers and plants, all surprisingly reasonably priced. You'll find a much different selection of flowers and plants here than at the big home stores or discount stores. Inside was like a fruit and vegetable market. The unusual local products (like Sweetwater cheeses, honey products and chocolate covered everything) reminded me of visiting a farmers market as a kid. The staff was very friendly. I didn't even need to bring the plants I selected inside to pay. Someone added them up and handed me a ticket with a smile. I should have stopped here long ago. Now I'll make time for a visit now and then, especially in the spring.

Yelp
What a quaint place. It had an old time shop feel and the prices reflected a time where they werent marked up by every person handling them. The prices were worth the trip (which was very short) and the people there were friendly and laid back. I saw lots of local grown vegetation, and locally maid preserves, coffee beans, etc. One of several great markets in the area.

Terry R.

Yelp
As an avid gardener and a true grow my own food kind of person I was delighted to see a marketplace like this type. I was truely impressed at what they had to offer. Inside they had everything from grinding your own flavored coffee, all types of honey, fresh fruit and vegetables and even a jar of homemade vegetable soup. This was indeed a very unique place to purchase items not available in most grocery stores. It reminded me of the old five and dime stores where you have a large selection and pick what you want at reasonable prices. Will definately stop by quite often.
