Conveniently located with lots of parking nearby, this place has a good vibe, some tasty food and decent enough drinks. Service is attentive quick and efficient. The corn bread was fantastic - the main course was OK and then the desserts were very good. The shepherd pie for example had lots of potatoes and very little meat and the salmon was dry - over done. But desserts all hit the spot and in balance we left rather pleased with the experience.

Google
Cozy bar, very friendly atmosphere and a good selection of drinks. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, they recommended different beers and wines. Their cocktails selection is limited, buy they will try to help you out. If you want something that they just don't have they will suggest something similar. Also we had a small bite/snack and it was delicious 😋🤤 Will go back again whenever/if I am in the area.

Google
Really wanted to love it. Menu looked great and the food tasted good but the brussel sprouts were so tough and the corn bread was doughy. So disappointed. The service started great and I can tell there are some good people there but we happened to get the worst service and there wasn’t even that many people but the place was so loud you couldn’t even talk to someone next to you. The waiter asked if my husband wanted another drink but that never came. We only were able to eat one of dishes and ended up paying $80 dollars. Just disappointing.

Google
First time trying this restaurant. Love the thin fries. The turkey chili and korean fried chicken burger was delicious. Wish that there were dessert available but the time i went the staff told us dessert were not available at the time.

Google
Delicious food, excellent staff, and an warm contemporary atmosphere at this new Dedham restaurant! My partner and I have been so impressed with the food and service that I had to write a review. We've had the cod with leeks and mushrooms and salmon with honey mustard and fennel - in both cases the fish was perfectly seasoned and prepared and the accompaniments where unique and so good! We've also tried the grilled steak and the flavorful chicken tagine that tastes like it's been simmered all day. Grilled shrimp app has an amazing citrus sauce and you will want to savor every drop of the broth that comes with the mussels! Can you tell I love this place?

Google
Another new addition to dedham square. Its a great spot. Good draft list with really good food. The timing on the food delivery was a little off. The apps and main course came out basically at the same time. Thats the only small gripe I can think of. Other than that it was absolutely great. I will definitely be back again for more.

Google
Love this swanky new neighborhood joint in the heart of historic Dedham village. I didn’t know about the horse thieves association until now and how important it was during Dedham’s early days as an agricultural economic center for Boston. (They would protect the horsesLol from getting stolen.) Dedham is a little-known yet important part of American history. We have the first public school in America and the oldest standing house (Fairbanks house). This place does Dedham and atmosphere and food right - suggest trying the fried cauliflower and the shrimp appetizer - both are extremely good 😋🥰

Google
-Opened a few months ago- I went around 2p and got the Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich, fantastic! The prices & food are are on point. The staff are all super nice. Menus for both lunch & dinner are simple (1page). But yet there's something for everyone. They have a full bar. Even at 2p you could feel that this place is alive. So if you are in Dedham Sq swing on by. For a nice new surprise. -Support your local businesses-

Yelp
Great local spot in the heart of Dedham. Place has an retro vibe with the music they play. We have been getting the steak entree and it has been a home run each time. Friendly staff and patrons. Give it a try in a weekend night.

Yelp
What better place to enjoy the Kentucky derby than at the Horse Thieves Tavern!? Gathered together with a group of friends enjoying a nice clean restaurant, good food, good drinks and a fun lively atmosphere. Shepherds pie was my choice for dinner and I really enjoyed it. Topped with mashed potatoes that rested on top of a bed of vegetables and lamb. Very good and very filling. They offered quite a variety of drink specials my choice being the Kentucky killer which was a bourbon-based drink with strawberries. The others enjoyed a mint julep. I took a sip of that too and it was fantastic.

Yelp
Since my wife is celiac, we always look for gluten-free options before trying any restaurant. Since a friend of ours was performing at Sunday brunch, we got reservations but we weren't too confident about gluten-free choices, based on previous reviews. We talked with the waiter and the manager and they bent over backwards to accommodate our needs. They mentioned that our options included cooking our food in a separate pan and were well aware of cross-contamination. They were extremely helpful and we had a great meal and a great time listening to the music. We now know we have a great choice for gluten-free dining in Dedham.

Yelp
I love going to HTT with my daughter for a couple of cocktails and appetizer. Real fire place not eclectic is a nice touch and the bartender ate always super nice

Doris D.

Yelp
The server was super and my husband and I enjoy the decor. However, the burgers we ordered were "meh", asked for "medium" they came out "well". (Can't we hire chefs that know the difference?) The fries are those shoe string fries which, again, we said "meh". It was a "meh" meal for over $50 including tip and non alcoholic drinks. Hate to say it, I can make a better burger at home and save the cash. (This was the second time we are at the Tavern. And, like the first, I can only say "meh".)

Yelp
I have been going to Horse thieves for a few years now and decided to host my daughters college graduation party at the Tavern. The food and staff was amazing! We had the back of the restaurant and it was perfect for our party of 35! I would highly recommend HTT to host your next event or if you are looking for a cool restaurant with nice vibe, delicious food and friendly staff

Yelp
Decided to come here for date night. It's been on our list for a while. We got there and the menu looked great. We started with the corn bread. It was really good and the Maple butter was great. I ordered the Korean fried chicken sandwich. I just didn't like it. The sauce that was on it.... eh.... and the bun just fell apart when I cut it in half. I basically pulled the chicken off and ate the fries, which were pretty good. Almost like those potatoe sticks we had as a kid. My wife ordered the quinoa bowl. Basically lacked flavor and she only ate about 3 bites. So overall disappointed in the quality besides the cornbread. They also sat another couple pretty close to us, and that made my wife very uncomfortable. So we probably will not be back, which is unfortunate as it looked promising. Maybe just a bad day, because there are so many good reviews.

Yelp
Was hoping to add this place to my restaurant rotation list based on location and name; alas that didn't happen. The food was a little below average for basic bar food. An ok pubby atmosphere but nothing special. There are other alternatives in the area with better food and atmosphere.

Yelp
We're at event close by and found the restaurant on Yelp. Service was good - attentive enough but no hovering. Food was delicious especially the shoestring fries. I could've had 3 servings of that. They had Guinness on tap (my fave). Prices were $14 for the burger, reasonable.
google avatar

Yelp
We really enjoyed our evening at HTT. Nice selection of beers on tap and a good cocktail list. We had the lamb meatballs and sausage to start and then burgers, the pork schnitzel and the Brussels sprouts for dinner. Everything was excellent. Like, really really good. Our server was attentive and friendly. Loved playing checkers at the table. We're looking forward to returning!

Yelp
Small portions, nice ambience. The chicken pot pie was so good, the flavors were unique (hints of cumin?).

Yelp
2 stars for waitress 0 stars for the food We went as a family nite celebration. Ok it was a busy nite. The server warned us the kitchen was busy. Ordered 2 entrees of corn bread, chicken sandwich, and other items Corn bread was not cooked thoroughly, but we were hungry and ate one sent the other back with a request to send a new order. Chicken sandwich was easy under cooked (pink, raw chicken hmm is that healthy?) Sent that back asked for a salad. After all we just received two under cooked items. Then a manager(?) comes over to inform me the chicken was not under cooked we were mistaken. Really?? the chicken was pink it was not fully cooked.. received the bill.. charged for two corn bread did not receive 2 received 1 returned 1 chicken sandwich yup I was billed. Settled the mess and we were gone.. would you return?

Yelp
Good good and efficient and friendly service and a nice collection of draft beers. What else do you need ?

Yelp
We'd made a reservation but were hung up in I95 traffic and running late. My wife called from the car and they pushed out our reservation an hour. No problem. When we arrived 30 minutes late we were greeted with a smile and immediately seated. Decorations were old photos of Dedham (i.e., their location during The Great Blizzard of 78) and horse-themed prints. The staff was super-friendly and welcoming. The waitress and I both grew up locally and discussed our experiences during The Great Blizzard of 78. The ca. 1900 building has been gutted and updated since my last time in Dedham. It's light and airy. The menu has many pub staples including Shepherd's Pie, which I ordered. It was made the proper way with ground lamb. My wife ordered a cheese burger (6 oz.) with a side salad. Both meals arrived quickly and were piping hot. Both were delicious. There was a slight mixup on my wife's side salad, which was immediately dealt with. We each ordered a beer from the half a dozen beers on tap from assorted local microbreweries plus Guinness. We each ordered a beer. Both of us would go there again.

Yelp
My wife raved about going here when they first opened. Finally, we made a reservation to have dinner with family who was in town. First. The place is ridiculously loud. Second, the server took our drink order and then promptly told us the kitchen would be busy, so we should place our order quickly. It seemed odd, but sometimes that happens. We figured the server knew better than we did. So we ordered some appetizers and our entrees. Third. Everything came out together. I mean, this is restaurant 101. Now I was beginning to feel rushed. This isn't a chain restaurant. Again. I took a deep breath and nodded. Never once asked how our food was. Never once asked if we'd like another drink. We were asked if we wanted dessert, when we replied no, she asked if we wanted to-go containers. Again feeling rushed. But again, deep breaths. My wife was finishing her cocktail after all. Then the manager came over. Asked us if he could buy us a round. I thought, heck, maybe he noticed the terrible service. Nope. He wanted us to move to the bar. With a child. You know, they explained, they need the table. We politely declined the drink. We've all had seen quite enough for one night. Rushed service. Check Overcooked Food. Check. Rude treatment. Check. First and last time. Check. My wife was embarrassed when her sister replied that she can't ever recall being asked to get off a table. She was our guest for the evening. Really one of the worst dining experiences in recent memory.

Yelp
Food and service is always great! The grilled chicken quinoa bowl is always my go to meal! Blood orange cosmo is my favorite cocktail!

Yelp
Love horse thieves tavern! The food is amazing and the staff is great. You can tell they put a lot of thought and effort into their menu and the drink selection is great as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome gem! Don't skip the peach shortcake dessert (perfectly salted and a bit savory, not cloyingly sweet!)
google avatar

Tim B.

Yelp
Very comfortable place with nice ambiance. Great variety for a relatively small menu. Food was solid in every regard. The service was terrible, inattentive and unapologetic. Won't go rushing back with so many good local alternatives.

Yelp
'Twas a beautiful fall day in November. After a fantastic day in bean town the gang decided the fun must not end there. We took the train back to Dedham and entered the olde horse thieves tavern and let me tel you we very much enjoyed our meals and experience there! The four of us all got different dishes but equally delicious! The Shepards pie was said to be "out of this world." Can't wait to go back here again. All the best & happy thanksgiving! -BB

Yelp
The decor is nice. I live in the neighborhood and patronize the place out of convenience. I really wanted this place to be good, with friendly welcoming staff and yummy food. Sigh. The food passes muster but if you want the wow factor go somewhere else. The staff are "okay" but will never be accused of being welcoming and friendly. The bartenders routinely treat bar patrons as if they are invisible unless they personally know them. When that's the case they become animated and shower them with attention. As a former waitress/bartender I am APPALLED by the behavior of the so-called manager who was apparently managing the restaurant from her bar stool this evening. When the flourless chocolate cake arrived for dessert my friend bit into it and said,"Betty Crocker, made from a mix and dry." I would expect more from a restaurant dessert. I look a bite and the taste was reminiscent of my Easy Bake Oven chocolate cake back in the day. We told the waitress how dry and tasteless the cake was. Then a woman who had been sitting at the bar the entire time we ate dinner approached our table. I had NO IDEA she was the manager as she never gave us her name nor her affiliation with Horse Thieves. (we found out after the fact that she was the manager) I thought she was another patron because she got off of a bar stool. She accused us of eating 1/2 the cake and wasn't apologetic nor did she offer us anything in its place. She never took it off the bill. She had less than zero interest that we had a bum dessert and had ZERO managerial or people skills. She was the rudest, non professional manager I have ever encountered. With inflation at an all time high and with the myriad of restaurants to choose from she obviously didn't get the memo that every dollar that comes in is important to a business. When I asked her her name she refused to answer. She just kept saying, "good night. BY THE WAY, regarding the pork schnitzel: had to ask waitress to bring a sauce on the side to dip it in otherwise it would have been too dry to eat. The slaw needs to be shredded into smaller pieces that actually fit inside one's mouth. The pieces of cabbage are ridiculously big. I asked for a veg with the meal and was told add brussel sprouts would be an additional $11. YIKES! P.S. They don't serve coffee. A restaurant that doesn't serve coffee?? STRANGE!
google avatar

Meghan F.

Yelp
The food and drinks are amazing! The atmosphere is so cozy and lovely. It's noisy on a Friday night which I don't mind but if you aren't into loud places maybe do a weekday but I love it there any day if the week!
google avatar

Dull Machete S.

Yelp
Yikes! That's all I have to say The staff were pleasant and the atmosphere is great, but the food is really lacking. They have the right idea, but what the hey!
google avatar

Doyle J.

Yelp
Friendly service and attractive room. Good beer selection at reasonable prices. Don't be fooled by the shabby exterior.
google avatar

Samrana B.

Yelp
So this menu does not really mention that there is gluten free bun so I was beyond excited when the waitress told me that they had some and that the fries are done in a separate fryer. Honestly I was sold right there instantly 4 stars for me. It's tough having celiac and wanting fries. It was also nice that the waitress was gluten intolerant so she knew exactly what the recommend. I probably won't get the Korean sandwich when I come back as the chicken was way to salty. They ended up giving me two blood Orange cocktails the first one was way to sugary but the second lived up it to the review. Overall nice chill vibes

Peter R.

Yelp
This is a gem in Dedham Square. Very casual and a nice independent vibe. An always changing local beer selection. Was once a pharmacy established 150 years ago.
google avatar

Vanessa P.

Yelp
My husband and I had dinner here, and while the ambience and drink menu were good, the food itself fell flat. The beet salad was mostly arugula dressed in oil (I could have done better at home), and his Korean chicken sandwich was so salty he couldn't finish it. I had mussels which were good, but for the price I expected a more generous serving. Great place for a drink on a cold evening, but given the prices there are better options for dinner.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
We had an amazing experience after going to the Dedham community theater last weekend. Really enjoyed the Horse Thieves. The service was incredibly good as we sat at the bar and Kyle took care of us throughout our meal. Very personable and attentive. The food is excellent, the menu diverse and the prices is reasonable. We were amazed with how the service team worked well together. Covering for each other, and working the bar and tables even as the restaurant looked to be at 100% occupancy! We will definitely return.

Yelp
I have been to Hose Thieves twice in the last three weeks. The good: - Wait staff is fantastic. Mature and paying attention without haunting. - Great selection of beer and decent liquor selections too. - Very creative mock-tails - Buffalo cauli appetizer terrific. Heat was on point - Steak tips special was good, fish and chips too - Astrids Apple Crisp topped with Ron's ice cream- excellent Lacking: - Both the lamb shepard's pie and Chicken Pot pie were very disappointing. Lamb pie was watery and very bland- tried to add pepper and salt but didn't help at all - Chicken Pot Pie was very bland and soupy. Crust looked good but was raw after the first layer. Chicken was dry in spite of the soupy sauce As noted, staff was great. Atmosphere is very comfortable. There are a few other things on the menu that I would try next time out so I will go back..

Yelp
Love this local tavern in Dedham Square! Consistently delicious food, great service, and a home-away-from-home atmosphere. Nice selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. It's our go-to for dinner and weekend brunch.
google avatar

Kim H.

Yelp
Great service. Loved the fireplace. Cozy seating with pillows. Meatloaf was grilled - interesting! Cod with leeks was delicious. Good beer selection, too. Nice addition to Dedham Square!
google avatar

Yelp
Thank you, Horse Thieves. Unpretentious pub grub fare in lovely historic Dedham Square. Fried chicken sandwich. Good beer. Before or after the movies. Can't miss.
google avatar

Matt K.

Yelp
Fish and chips were not very good. It was over fried and the pieces were very small. Burger was pretty good according to my brother. Service was excellent though.
google avatar

Julio V.

Yelp
Food is not impressive at all. I could have made a better dinner for me and my fiancé at home. I don't recommend this place, there are way better options in the area. Staff are not very knowledgeable about the menu. Chef needs to be reevaluated. The quality definitely doesn't not match the atmosphere. Restaurant has potential but they need a new menu and probably a new chef. And serves that know what they are serving.
google avatar

Megha M.

Yelp
Horse Thieves is a nice cozy spot. We loved the food! My son felt his fish and chips was really fresh but could use a little flavor. Rest everything we ordered was great, especially the Thieves Burger! The service was really good too.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Came here for a date night and had a wonderful time! First- the cocktails were delicious. I had a "fire and smoke" which had mescal and sriracha and I made my husband get a drink that had habanero because I wanted to try that as well. We came on a Thursday night so there was live music which was fun! The food was delicious, I personally liked my sliced steak with Brussels more than my husband's Korean chicken sandwich. The fries it came with could've been a little better in my opinion. Ended it all with s'mores- great idea- while we enjoyed the music. Definitely will be back again.
google avatar

Mckenzie M.

Yelp
Very chill atmosphere with an awesome bartender named Liz. Sitting at the bar is the best place in the house. The burger and chicken sandwich were fantastic. Will definitely be coming back.

Lindsey M.

Yelp
I would give this place zero stars if I could. We went in to celebrate my mothers birthday and the servers were rushing us. Took our plates before we were finished eating and were extremely pushy. We couldn't even have a conversation without a server interrupting us and rushing us to order or finish our food. The serving staff was extremely rude and the food was mediocre at best.
google avatar

Jeremy K.

Yelp
Good menu and pricing. Good options to please everyone and extensive cocktail menu. Patio is nice as well but service is horrendous. They don't know anything about the menu and aren't attentive at all. Just confused about everything. Wasn't able to tell us what cut of meat their steak offering for $25 was. Didn't refill our drinks or check-in on us for nearly 25 minutes or clear our plates. Also their skillet corn bread isn't corn bread but more of a corn pudding and when we asked about it the staff said that everyone's confused about it. Well why not do something about it? Lastly the owner was incredibly loud on the patio, obnoxious and making inappropriate sexual comments about the staff. A shame really considering the great location and quality of food.

Gloria F.

Yelp
Totally disappointing- fish and chips was pollock- greasy and tasteless string fries limp and coleslaw appeared days old. We are how far from fresh fish??? Friends had chicken pot pie totally frozen and watery- Service was sketchy/ everything took forever -? Grilled shrimp " shareable" was 5 minuscule tasteless shrimp and cornbread was a sorry shareable app- this place needs Jake Tapper or it will not service. Will not be back ever!
google avatar

Maddie W.

Yelp
Great food, excellent service. Nothing super crazy on the menu but all options we tried were very solid. Prices are also quite fair.

Richard P.

Yelp
Very boring. No reason to revisit. Bartender was extremely friendly though.Customers were friendly

Rebecca S.

Yelp
CELIACS RUN! I called ahead to double check to see if there was a separate gluten-free fryer. They said yes (lie). I asked her to check with the chef- she did- she said yes. Showed up with my friend and we ordered food. Once again asked the waitress who checked with the chef (three times) to see that the fryer with gluten-free and soy free. She said yes three times. When my food arrived I asked the new waitress if this was gluten-free and she said, well it's gluten-free but it's put in a fryer with things that aren't gluten-free. SO I COULDN'T EAT MY FOOD. Sounds like all of them know nothing. The waitresses don't know, the chef doesn't know. This restaurant is a disaster if you have food issues - if you are celiac -stay away. Apparently they don't care if they get you sick. Four thumbs down.
google avatar

Craig M.

Yelp
Food was very good and the service was very attentive. Apps were tasty and the burgers were good. Will definitely come back!

Jacob H.

Yelp
Horse thieves tavern has a friendly staff and an amazing selection of drinks and food. You can tell they really care.

Yelp
As a long-time fan of the restaurateurs' Miracle of Science in Cambridge (and other venues), I was thrilled when my brother wooed them to choose Dedham Square for their next venture. Renovation of this nearly 100 year old space is truly stunning. Exposed beams, original preserved brick, original wainscoting preserved from Wardle's Pharmacy. New working fireplace makes the place really cozy. Three beautifully designed bathrooms upstairs and downstairs. I think the food fare is great - from steak to fish -from chicken to a really delicious veggie burger - among many other choices. I like the fact that the bar offers what they call a "pony" - which is a smaller sized pour - nice way to try a range of beers/ales. Only $4. If you're looking for a huge menu or fancy dining, this place may not fit the bill. But if you're looking to gather with friends & family in a warm, relaxed environment - with really decent food & drink - HTT will be a go-to stop. The tavern already has many regular repeat customers - including me. Awesome friendly staff still fine tuning- place is only in soft launch mode - official opening in June. As the Beatles would say, "It's getting better all the time."
google avatar

Steve F.

Yelp
Ate there during covid outdoor seating. The portions were small and the prices weren't, not to mention my entree wasn't near hot. My meatloaf dinner was tasty and the mashed potatoes too, but the serving size wouldn't have satisfied an 11 year old. My wife's hummus platter was pretty strange. Aside from the small portion, the hummus was soupy and the carrots were a strange color. She couldn't find it in her to finish. My drink was good but undersized. I might go back but I'm in no rush. On second thought... probably not.

Yelp
Comfortable, relaxed atmosphere and comfort food. Excellent service. Occasionally live music.
