I agree with others, that this place is not as good as it was in the past. Last night, we had to wait outside in the cold and then could not be seated as #2 in line since my sister was parking the car. As a result, we ended up last in line after waiting 20 minutes...Then, when my wife ordered, it turns out they really only cater to old people who love all deep fried food and sides full of carbs like baked potato, sweet potato, fries, and sweet potato fries. The extra vegetables were corn and lima beans. She asked for two of the very small side salads in-lieu-of a carb-laden side and was told absolutely not. There are NO substitutions! We thought she was kidding, but no, there was zero customer service, no southern charm, and no southern hospitality. They've never heard that the customer is always right. We had to pay $22 for shrimp and $2 extra to have it grilled instead of fried. Not sure of the exact amount, since I didn't end up with an itemized receipt. The salad was very basic with just greens and croutons. We asked for cheese that was another extra charge. My burger was the best part of the meal. Spoiler alert, this restaurant also charges extra to use a credit card. Overall, all of the extra charges including the credit card fee were over $5. It was interesting that when my sister checked out, the clerk at the register asked how everything was. Funny that she didn't ask me, since I would have told her we were NOT happy with only one side instead of two without any adjustment to the bill, and the food was just okay. My sweet potato was not fully cooked and was very lumpy and pretty small. My sister's sweet potato fries were not hot and just marginal too. We're not sure what they've done to the gumbo recipe recently, but it's also not as good with the change. Last night, it had burnt andouille sausage in it and grilled chicken without any flavor that must have been thrown in at the last minute. Our Mom made the best gumbo and in the past, Hoskins had a good one that was similar. Now, it's not the same...The shrimp was okay, but the prices just keep going higher. For two people, this place is not worth $50 plus tip in my opinion. Check out some other places that have excellent seafood options, reasonable prices, happy hour drinks/food and excellent servers like Flying Fish. It makes me want to skip Hoskins in the future, since there are so many other better restaurants around. They also close down soon (around Thanksgiving), but don't tell anyone until the day before. The re-opening in February around Valentine's Day is also a secret. Overall, we were very disappointed tonight.
