10 of the Most Myrtle Beach Restaurants in Myrtle Beach | Eater

"Hoskins is the type of family diner — in business since 1948 — that could have been franchised to ubiquity. But, thankfully, there is only one Hoskins, with its iconic sign circled by a ring of incandescent stars. The menu has evolved, expanded, and embellished to meet modern expectations of culinary creativity (they season grits with pimento cheese, for example). All the while, the down-home family atmosphere and satisfied customers hold steady. Local favorites range from some of the city’s best fried seafood platters to lunch specials like country fried steak (Saturday) and chicken bog (Friday). Don’t sleep on the peanut butter pie."

Google
Best restaurant we have been to in North Myrtle Beach! Excellent service! Ribeye was cooked perfect! Very flavorful! Taste like it was flame grilled. The fried shrimp were the best we have had. The fried flounder was cooked to perfection! The only drawback was that they ran out of coconut pie. But the chocolate was a delicious substitute!😍 Our server was very kind, attentive & Efficient! This placed was not super noisy. Perfect for my parents! I seriously can not say enough good things about this restaurant!

Google
Have lived here for 17 years and can finally say I’ve been! We went in as a family of 4 for breakfast and it was delicious and super affordable. There was no wait, our waitress was friendly and attentive. I would recommend their biscuits and gravy and sausage egg and cheese biscuit! Now I want to go back and try lunch and dinner!!

Greg J.

Google
Best Peanut butter pie! We had the special, fried boneless skinless thigh, and peas, rice, corn, included tes for $10.50. Save money using cash, otherwise 4% premium.

Google
Hoskins is a popular spot for dining, and we waited in line for over 30 minutes to be seated. The food was very good and reasonably priced, making the wait worthwhile. I ordered the fried seafood combination, which included flounder, oysters, a crab cake, shrimp, and scallops. The scallops and shrimp were excellent, the flounder and oysters were good, but I found the crab cake underwhelming. The service was excellent, and I look forward to returning for either lunch or dinner. Vegetables are primarily served during lunch hours, so if I visit for dinner, I plan to try the scallop sandwich or the scallop plate. The place was what you’d expect with a beach atmosphere.

Google
Fantastic local seafood restaurant w great prices and very friendly service!👌 Blackened Grouper was amazing ! LG flounder plate was huge ! 4/5 pieces of lightly breaded flounder. Scallop sandwich was also very good w at least 5 large scallops on it cooked perfectly. If your in Myrtle beach you gotta try this place .

Google
Amazing southern food, great prices - get the lunch deal, friendly service, lots of free parking. We all really loved it and will be back

Google
I don't get the hype about this place. It's crowded so service is slow, and their eggs, sausage, bacon, and grits are nothing to write home about (or a review, but here we are). We both ordered eggs scrambled with cheese. I don't know anywhere else that could screw that up. Except this place that just threw shredded cheese on top of scrambled eggs instead of folding in the cheese. The grits were thick and tasteless. The biscuits were flat and dry. The bacon and sausage were okay. Kinda disappointed because breakfast is our big meal of the day, and we could have gone somewhere much better.

Google
What a GEM in N Myrtle. This place is on the main strip coming into N Myrtle. A line begins quickly for dinner, suggest going early 5:30ish. Line moves fast. Great fried seafood. Slaw is amazing, mayonnaise base with a vinegar finish, definitely homemade. Typical dinning room vibe, small room with many tables. Wait staff was awesome and efficient. We never miss the opportunity when we visit.

Yelp
Update: Visited Hoskin's for lunch. I ordered scallops (large was just over $28) and they were outstanding! They also offer lunch specials: 1 meat, 3 vegetables (four to choose from) bread and beverage for $10.95. One of their meat specials was a fried whole flounder. It seemed very popular. I would consider it on a future visit. Great service. Looking forward to going back soon!

Yelp
This was the second time that we have visited this place and we love it! It's the type of place you go if you want to eat like a local. Although it's not going to be empty-you're going to have to wait! Both times we have been in the line along the road, but it's mostly covered and it's not bad, as it keeps moving quickly. This most recent time we had my parents with us and my dad cannot stand in line for long periods of time and no one said a word about him staying in the vehicle and then hopping in line with us when we made it to the front. There was also a large bench out front at the door that he could sit on while we waited the last few minutes to get in. The workers are always so friendly and the food comes out hot, fresh, and most of all GOOD! This time I had the BBQ sandwich and it was huge and so yummy! I paired it with a sweet potato and it had white slaw, which was fine. I work in Lexington, NC (the "BBQ Capital of the World, haha) so I was expecting red slaw. Didn't change my opinion, though. It was GREAT! My husband had the shrimp cocktail appetizer and commented how great it was, too. My dad had BBQ like me and my mom had a cheeseburger and said it was better than any of the other places we had eaten that week! It's a cozy and down-home feel when you are here. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
I know this is a local favorite and there is generally a line around the building. This is a usually a sign of excellence. I don't know... it was just ok to me. A little pricey for the seafood. Yes, I know I am at the beach but this appeared to be a total local hangout. I will say the service was fantastic but the food was nothing to write home about. Not bad just not great. Maybe try for yourself and I will read your review

Yelp
Food and service were both very good. There was a wait but it was worth it. Sunday lunch special was less $12, included a meat, 3 sides, a biscuit, dessert and tea. All the food was an A, the biscuit & the banana pudding were A+. It was real banana pudding, not that cheap 99% whipped cream mix that many places serve.

Yelp
Went at lunch on Halloween-there was the usual line at the door but it moved quickly. The service was outstanding-she was personable, attentive, and funny-and it was her birthday! My mom and I both got the fried chicken, salad, and turnip greens. She got the fries which were hot and crisp and lightly battered. I got the baked potato which was hot and steaming. We both loved the fried chicken which was made to order-juicy inside and crisp and flavorful on the outside. We both loved the turnip greens (and I'm not a vegetable fan!). They had pieces of diced turnip and were tender and flavorful and not at all bitter. The only knock is that the lettuce had seen better days-we both had brown lettuce. The dressings were delicious, though. We thought we were supposed to get rolls but no big deal. The place is clean and full of locals! We both took home half of our meal and will be back soon!

Yelp
We came here around 9 AM on a Sunday morning. Luckily there was no weight. The kids enjoyed the kids menu for coloring service was prompt and attentive. My veggie omelette and hashbrowns were pretty good. I absolutely love the biscuits. My son was disappointed with the grits, but I think he's just used to eating creamy grits back home. They absolutely love the pancakes and thought they were fluffy and delicious. We will definitely come back again.

Yelp
Food is excellent and affordable! We ordered a dozen fried oysters , clam chowder, Tuesday dinner specials: fried chicken, mac & cheese, peas , bread and corn, and chicken fingers with sweet potato.for our dessert we had decaf , and key lime pie.service is good. The restaurant is great!

Yelp
We've eaten breakfast here before, and it was good. It's old school eggs and bacon, so hard to give them a great review. Lunch was a different story. We ordered the whole flounder, which was good....maybe a tiny bit over done. But the veggies that came with the meal....ugh! They were obviously canned. We're not used to eating canned vegetables, so we found them incredibly salty. And we both ended up with a headache after the meal, so I'm thinking MSG. We won't go back. We haven't had this problem at the Seafood Shack in Cherry Grove.

Yelp
We went on a Wednesday night and got there at 4:15 and there was already a long line waiting to get in! (They open at 4:30). That's always a good sign. I had the special Blackened Shrimp & Grouper over Creamy corn with jalapeños, asparagus & a baked potato. Hubby had the fried oysters & crab cakes with baked potato. All the food was fresh, hot, high quality and delicious! We highly recommend Hoskins!

Yelp
absolutely a must for anyone going to N Myrtle Beach. Go early as the line forms quickly. Fresh, delicious food and super friendly and fast service.

Stephen E.

Yelp
This place is a wonderful place to eat. We have eaten breakfast here many times but we at dinner here also this past trip. The service has always been top notch. The atmosphere is really nice. This is a wonderful family restaurant to eat at. I have to say any meal you choose at this restaurant is going to be wonderful.
google avatar

Darlene B.

Yelp
Amazing dinner. Thick flounder. Fresh. Not greasy. 2 huge pieces on the small plate. Service was impeccable. Diner atmosphere. Truly a gem! My friend had salmon and she said it was seasoned and cooked perfectly.
google avatar

Dana K.

Yelp
This place was recommended by a local so we decided to give it a try. Surprisingly we were able to be seated immediately because there were only 2 of us. Customer service was efficient and friendly, food was hot and fresh but, it could have used a bit more seasoning. I had the flounder and shrimp combo, and my companion had the bone in flounder. Other than that, I was pleased with my visit.

Karen C.

Yelp
Service was good food was good Great place for inexpensive meals Well prepared and served hot

Yelp
We waited about 40 mins when we arrived at 5pm for dinner on a Thursday night. Everyone says it's worth the wait, so we waited. I'm not sure it was worth the 40 minute wait, with so many great restaurants in the area, but this place does a solid job with classic Southern comfortl food. We did not get fried seafood, which I suspect would be the tastiest thing. Nothing really blew us away, but we'd come back if the line were shorter next time. I bet their breakfast is really good and I've heard their biscuits are great.
google avatar

Kumi V.

Yelp
If you're looking for fried seafood and fantastic hush puppies then please wait in line!! This place has been here since the 40's and easily know why. It is not fancy but it is excellent, the she crab soup was as good as any I've tried. The oysters and scallops were just lightly breaded and delicious. An excellent choice for seafood lovers who don't mind to splurge on some guilty pleasure's.

Yelp
This place is a favorite of mine when I travel to Myrtle Beach. And apparently not just mine because there is usually a line outside when you go in the evenings (especially on the weekends). However, the line usually moves quickly and there is a bench. The food is fantastic. Pretty much everything I have tried here, I enjoyed. My go to though is the flounder and shrimp combo. I have been here at least 5 times over the past 3 or 4 years with the most recent being October 2024. Each time I leave happy. The service is great too. I will definitely return the next time I'm in the Myrtle Beach area.
google avatar

Rae N.

Yelp
Incredible fried flounder and shrimp. Classic and consistently good. We also tried grilled salmon, which was also great?
google avatar

Allyn S.

Yelp
Service was great. Food was fast, fresh and hot. Everything we had was delicious. The flounder was fresh and flaky. The hush puppies were hot and flavorful. Definitely would return.
google avatar

Tammy D.

Yelp
We were seated quickly and waited on immediately. The breakfast only is served until 10:45. The food was hot and came to us quickly. Very efficient. Food diner atmosphere. Sorry no photos.
google avatar

Gary D.

Yelp
The food wasn't as good as it usually is. The home fries were cooked to long, the sausage was so greasy I couldn't eat it. The eggs weren't hot . The waitress was informed of the food. The restaurant is always clean and the service was good. They did take off for the sausage .
google avatar

Apryl W.

Yelp
Amazing food, great pricing and service. The line went fast and the food was worth the wait! Love the flounder!
google avatar

Bobby B.

Yelp
Seems the locals like it but meh. Over easy eggs were raw, biscuits were a four at best. Long line for a table and I honestly don't get it.

Maxie D.

Yelp
I love the whole flounder and a friend loves the meat loaf. Everything is great. You get to see old friends and make new ones. Lunch specials are fantastic
google avatar

Kristen L.

Yelp
We loved it! Got the grouper and shrimp special with jalapeno cream corn. Amazing and two pies !!
google avatar

Craig H.

Yelp
We visited here again during our winter visit for lunch. I had fried oyster sandwich. Delicious, plump juicy oysters on a brioche bun. My wife had pulled pork sandwich on brioche bun. We had to wait in line outside for about twenty minutes, but onced seated the waitress was very quick and efficient. Food was brought out very quickly. Restaurant was very clean, .it has a front room and back room. Food has always been good, this is our 3rd visit here. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. 7am to 1045am for breakfast, 11am to 230 pm for lunch, 430 pm to 930 pm for dinner. Closed Sunday nights, and all day monday

Yelp
I had to wait in line, outside, for about 20-25 minutes and in the humid weather and they were not taking take out orders... anyway, it was totally worth the wait. I was visiting from out of town and we don't have many good seafood restaurants. The food at Hoskins was fresh and tasty and the hush puppies were the best I've ever had.

Brenda P.

Yelp
Old school seafood place, plain, not fancy at all but who cares because the our seafood platter was enormous, hot and delicious! Oysters, not my normal favorite, were better than I've ever eaten and moved way up on my usual list of ordering. I was hungry but unable to finish all of any choices on the platter, in fact, never touched the crab cake. My husband and I ate so much, I think we "waddled" out to the car! Definitely would go back!

Y T.

Yelp
The food is always delicious and super quick but the staff are never overly friendly. The pimento cheese grits are very good.

Brian P.

Yelp
Warning! There is one of the dumbest servers I've EVER meet! We had a party of 4 and the other members of our party were less than 2 minutes away and see refused to put us on the waiting list! She tried to say that they didn't take reservations and I tried to explain the simple difference between a walk in and reservations; however the dumb woman still wasn't getting it! I know this won't make a difference but people need to be warned!

Mike C.

Yelp
We went here on Friday wanting to get the chicken bog, lunch is served until 2:30 we got there about 2 and was told they were out. I had the flounder with corn, coleslaw and fries and comes with tea ,Jodi had the barbecue chicken with corn, macaroni and cheese Lima beans, also comes with biscuits and cornbread, everything was delicious. 06/06/25

Hannah T.

Yelp
This place was so cool and so delicious! We happened to be driving around town and saw a line out the door and thought we had to try this place. It's been open for 77 years and it did not disappoint! We went for lunch and our server Ashely was so patient with us, we had someone in our party that had a food sensitivity and she was so kind to check with the kitchen more than once to make sure it didn't have the sensitivity. My sister ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and she said it was the juiciest chicken sandwich she'd ever had. I ordered the Beach comber burger (flame grilled burger with fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese on a pretzel bun) and it was literally the best burger I have ever had!!! Perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. We will definitely be coming back the next time we come in to town. So delicious!

Tony A.

Yelp
Great old time restaurant, it has a friendly feel to it when you enter the place, the service is excellent and the food is very good, sometimes, if not most of the times you have to wait on line to get in ,but definitely worth the wait, I had the blackened grouper, and it was delicious, everyone on my party enjoyed their choices
google avatar

Bill A.

Yelp
I'll give them a review if I'm ever able to get in the door. Hope to get in there soon everyone raves about the food, someday I might LOL
google avatar

Valeria V.

Yelp
The prices are very affordable. There is always a line at dinner time. I don't recommend for breakfast. I thought the best deal was lunch. The fried chicken was very good and most of the veggies have been great. Had the flounder one evening and it was very good. Nothing fancy but nice staff and great prices
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
Well...I don't know. This was our second visit and our memory must be failing or the restaurant is. Everything fried had the same taste. Salad dressing and sour cream comes in a little plastic cup, salad had crackers on the side, and salad was mostly iceberg with some fancy leaves thrown on top to foil you. I mean, it's ok, I guess. I got the flounder and shrimp. I don't eat fish much so was disappointed that the skin was on the fish. I didn't know that's traditional, it was unappetizing. Husband got scallops, shrimp, and crab cake with slaw. Hush puppies were nice.

Kim B.

Yelp
Absolutely a terrible restaurant, They constantly change their menu. Lie about what they have on the menu. They say turkey and dressing but don't have it. False advertising ‼ We went last week for turkey and dressing. BIG NOPE. If you don't have enough then DONT advertise and lie to the public. You know how many you cook for. You don't tun out of specially items!! Our waitress that served us was the meanest server we have ever met in a restaurant. We sat on the left side of the wall in a booth. The waitress is a stumpy old lady with gray/brown hair. When we ordered I asked for the special and she said I quote it's right in front of you lady!! Then she blamed it on the person who sat us.. I have never been so humiliated in my life as other customers heard her. We gave her a tip she didn't deserve ‼ This place caters to extremely elderly people with no taste. Once your get to a certain age you loose taste, It's sad... worst restaurant ever'
google avatar

Pat G.

Yelp
The best fresh seafood in town. The people are always friendly and no complaints about service. It's not a fancy place but who cares when the food is this good!
google avatar

Gina M.

Yelp
Amazing food very reasonably priced. Ladies there a wonderful the food is hot and it's very busy and a big turnover because the food is that good.

Charles T.

Yelp
The food was sooo good it left me daydreaming for one min and 25 sec. The waiter was so nice I almost forgot my sunglasses and she gave it to me. Everyone was kind and the restaurant it self was very good, the restaurant looked very good and clean.
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
Great family restaurant and food! Great staff and clean facilities. Can't wait to move there and make this place a weekly breakfast spot.

Joan S.

Yelp
Lunch/dinner in my opinion is way better than breakfast. The omelet was thick, good, tasty but thicker than I like. The sausage gravy is some of the best around. Used to have a nice salad bar, not sure if they still do.

Thomas I.

Yelp
I'm a long time local to Myrtle Beach and I've heard about this restaurant we went there for lunch and we're not impressed with the menu and your seafood dishes are highly overpriced when you can buy local seafood at a reasonable price this makes no sense you've been in business a long time cater to your locals

Steven B.

Yelp
Excellent place to eat. The daily special offers a meat and three sides. Great food and great service. It's worth the wait!

Ron B.

Yelp
Actually got a recommendation to go Hoskins at another restaurant (iItalian) she told us if we enjoy good food try Hoskins. We'll she was right on! We loved the seafood combo all lightly coated and not greasy! Neat old place been in business 77 years so they know what they are doing. There was a line outside but we were seated quickly AND don't skip the desert!

Robert M.

Yelp
Great beach location, great service and fantastic seafood! Try the whole fried flounder! Awesome!
google avatar

Jeanette T.

Yelp
Waited in line. They seated a party behind us first, same size party, then put us in the corner all cramped. Food was okay nothing to write home about. Will not be standing in line to eat there again.
google avatar

Joe T.

Yelp
A great place for home cooking at the beach, large variety of food, I had the Sunday special glazed chicken with potato salad, green beans and squash casserole, with corn muffins and biscuits. The meal also included dessert coconut cake my wife had their tuna salad good times and great service. Nice people
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Pros: The full filet of flounder is amazing! Service is super friendly and quick Food comes out in a timely manner Cons: There is no call ahead seating or wait list. You arrive and wait in line outside, the hostess will come outside and say "a table for 4 is open" and whoever is in line with four people gets to go inside. The posted time is 4:30-9pm but they close early if it's a slow night.
