10 of the Most Myrtle Beach Restaurants in Myrtle Beach | Eater

"Hoskins is the type of family diner — in business since 1948 — that could have been franchised to ubiquity. But, thankfully, there is only one Hoskins, with its iconic sign circled by a ring of incandescent stars. The menu has evolved, expanded, and embellished to meet modern expectations of culinary creativity (they season grits with pimento cheese, for example). All the while, the down-home family atmosphere and satisfied customers hold steady. Local favorites range from some of the city’s best fried seafood platters to lunch specials like country fried steak (Saturday) and chicken bog (Friday). Don’t sleep on the peanut butter pie."

Hoskins is a popular spot for dining, and we waited in line for over 30 minutes to be seated. The food was very good and reasonably priced, making the wait worthwhile. I ordered the fried seafood combination, which included flounder, oysters, a crab cake, shrimp, and scallops. The scallops and shrimp were excellent, the flounder and oysters were good, but I found the crab cake underwhelming. The service was excellent, and I look forward to returning for either lunch or dinner. Vegetables are primarily served during lunch hours, so if I visit for dinner, I plan to try the scallop sandwich or the scallop plate. The place was what you’d expect with a beach atmosphere.

What a GEM in N Myrtle. This place is on the main strip coming into N Myrtle. A line begins quickly for dinner, suggest going early 5:30ish. Line moves fast. Great fried seafood. Slaw is amazing, mayonnaise base with a vinegar finish, definitely homemade. Typical dinning room vibe, small room with many tables. Wait staff was awesome and efficient. We never miss the opportunity when we visit.

Google
I don't get the hype about this place. It's crowded so service is slow, and their eggs, sausage, bacon, and grits are nothing to write home about (or a review, but here we are). We both ordered eggs scrambled with cheese. I don't know anywhere else that could screw that up. Except this place that just threw shredded cheese on top of scrambled eggs instead of folding in the cheese. The grits were thick and tasteless. The biscuits were flat and dry. The bacon and sausage were okay. Kinda disappointed because breakfast is our big meal of the day, and we could have gone somewhere much better.

Google
Homemade breakfast, lunch and dinner. Reasonable prices, down home feel. They're decades of success is a testament to the fact that they know how to do homestyle meals.

Google
Great service. Food was very good. Atmosphere was very pleasant. I will return. Well worth the 30 minute wait. No complaints.

Google
The best meal we've had down here on our vacation. Highly recommend The grilled grouper and shrimp meal. Even though you have to wait out in line out front, they get you into the door very very fast !!! Burgess.

Google
During a recent trip, my family visited this restaurant that came highly recommended by local residents. This family-owned establishment has a limited menu and seating space, but we had a wonderful experience. Notably, the staff requires guests to wait outside in a line in front of the building, calling you in as tables become available. The food was excellent and served quickly, and the wait staff was very attentive, ensuring all our needs were met. We will definitely return when we are back in the area.

Google
Great local spot. Line went fast, food and service was great. Seasoning was good and drinks and desert was good.

Yelp
This place was recommended by a local so we decided to give it a try. Surprisingly we were able to be seated immediately because there were only 2 of us. Customer service was efficient and friendly, food was hot and fresh but, it could have used a bit more seasoning. I had the flounder and shrimp combo, and my companion had the bone in flounder. Other than that, I was pleased with my visit.

Yelp
The food is always delicious and super quick but the staff are never overly friendly. The pimento cheese grits are very good.

Yelp
We waited about 40 mins when we arrived at 5pm for dinner on a Thursday night. Everyone says it's worth the wait, so we waited. I'm not sure it was worth the 40 minute wait, with so many great restaurants in the area, but this place does a solid job with classic Southern comfortl food. We did not get fried seafood, which I suspect would be the tastiest thing. Nothing really blew us away, but we'd come back if the line were shorter next time. I bet their breakfast is really good and I've heard their biscuits are great.

Yelp
This place is a favorite of mine when I travel to Myrtle Beach. And apparently not just mine because there is usually a line outside when you go in the evenings (especially on the weekends). However, the line usually moves quickly and there is a bench. The food is fantastic. Pretty much everything I have tried here, I enjoyed. My go to though is the flounder and shrimp combo. I have been here at least 5 times over the past 3 or 4 years with the most recent being October 2024. Each time I leave happy. The service is great too. I will definitely return the next time I'm in the Myrtle Beach area.

Yelp
We went here on Friday wanting to get the chicken bog, lunch is served until 2:30 we got there about 2 and was told they were out. I had the flounder with corn, coleslaw and fries and comes with tea ,Jodi had the barbecue chicken with corn, macaroni and cheese Lima beans, also comes with biscuits and cornbread, everything was delicious. 06/06/25

Yelp
This place was so cool and so delicious! We happened to be driving around town and saw a line out the door and thought we had to try this place. It's been open for 77 years and it did not disappoint! We went for lunch and our server Ashely was so patient with us, we had someone in our party that had a food sensitivity and she was so kind to check with the kitchen more than once to make sure it didn't have the sensitivity. My sister ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and she said it was the juiciest chicken sandwich she'd ever had. I ordered the Beach comber burger (flame grilled burger with fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese on a pretzel bun) and it was literally the best burger I have ever had!!! Perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. We will definitely be coming back the next time we come in to town. So delicious!

Yelp
We were seated quickly and waited on immediately. The breakfast only is served until 10:45. The food was hot and came to us quickly. Very efficient. Food diner atmosphere. Sorry no photos.

Yelp
We visited here again during our winter visit for lunch. I had fried oyster sandwich. Delicious, plump juicy oysters on a brioche bun. My wife had pulled pork sandwich on brioche bun. We had to wait in line outside for about twenty minutes, but onced seated the waitress was very quick and efficient. Food was brought out very quickly. Restaurant was very clean, .it has a front room and back room. Food has always been good, this is our 3rd visit here. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. 7am to 1045am for breakfast, 11am to 230 pm for lunch, 430 pm to 930 pm for dinner. Closed Sunday nights, and all day monday

Yelp
I had to wait in line, outside, for about 20-25 minutes and in the humid weather and they were not taking take out orders... anyway, it was totally worth the wait. I was visiting from out of town and we don't have many good seafood restaurants. The food at Hoskins was fresh and tasty and the hush puppies were the best I've ever had.

Charles T.

Yelp
The food was sooo good it left me daydreaming for one min and 25 sec. The waiter was so nice I almost forgot my sunglasses and she gave it to me. Everyone was kind and the restaurant it self was very good, the restaurant looked very good and clean.
google avatar

Bill A.

Yelp
I'll give them a review if I'm ever able to get in the door. Hope to get in there soon everyone raves about the food, someday I might LOL

Joan S.

Yelp
Lunch/dinner in my opinion is way better than breakfast. The omelet was thick, good, tasty but thicker than I like. The sausage gravy is some of the best around. Used to have a nice salad bar, not sure if they still do.
google avatar

Tony A.

Yelp
Great old time restaurant, it has a friendly feel to it when you enter the place, the service is excellent and the food is very good, sometimes, if not most of the times you have to wait on line to get in ,but definitely worth the wait, I had the blackened grouper, and it was delicious, everyone on my party enjoyed their choices
google avatar

Valeria V.

Yelp
The prices are very affordable. There is always a line at dinner time. I don't recommend for breakfast. I thought the best deal was lunch. The fried chicken was very good and most of the veggies have been great. Had the flounder one evening and it was very good. Nothing fancy but nice staff and great prices

Thomas I.

Yelp
I'm a long time local to Myrtle Beach and I've heard about this restaurant we went there for lunch and we're not impressed with the menu and your seafood dishes are highly overpriced when you can buy local seafood at a reasonable price this makes no sense you've been in business a long time cater to your locals
google avatar

Gina M.

Yelp
Amazing food very reasonably priced. Ladies there a wonderful the food is hot and it's very busy and a big turnover because the food is that good.

Steven B.

Yelp
Excellent place to eat. The daily special offers a meat and three sides. Great food and great service. It's worth the wait!
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
Well...I don't know. This was our second visit and our memory must be failing or the restaurant is. Everything fried had the same taste. Salad dressing and sour cream comes in a little plastic cup, salad had crackers on the side, and salad was mostly iceberg with some fancy leaves thrown on top to foil you. I mean, it's ok, I guess. I got the flounder and shrimp. I don't eat fish much so was disappointed that the skin was on the fish. I didn't know that's traditional, it was unappetizing. Husband got scallops, shrimp, and crab cake with slaw. Hush puppies were nice.
google avatar

Pat G.

Yelp
The best fresh seafood in town. The people are always friendly and no complaints about service. It's not a fancy place but who cares when the food is this good!

Yelp
Great family restaurant and food! Great staff and clean facilities. Can't wait to move there and make this place a weekly breakfast spot.

Ron B.

Yelp
Actually got a recommendation to go Hoskins at another restaurant (iItalian) she told us if we enjoy good food try Hoskins. We'll she was right on! We loved the seafood combo all lightly coated and not greasy! Neat old place been in business 77 years so they know what they are doing. There was a line outside but we were seated quickly AND don't skip the desert!

Robert M.

Yelp
Great beach location, great service and fantastic seafood! Try the whole fried flounder! Awesome!

Jim W.

Yelp
Fast and really friendly service. Both my wife and I had the meatloaf and the dinner was way more than we could eat. But, boy was the dinner tasty! Kind of old school, just like you'd expect, and miss.
google avatar

Jeanette T.

Yelp
Waited in line. They seated a party behind us first, same size party, then put us in the corner all cramped. Food was okay nothing to write home about. Will not be standing in line to eat there again.
google avatar

Joe T.

Yelp
A great place for home cooking at the beach, large variety of food, I had the Sunday special glazed chicken with potato salad, green beans and squash casserole, with corn muffins and biscuits. The meal also included dessert coconut cake my wife had their tuna salad good times and great service. Nice people

Yelp
It does not get much better than this local favorite! There always a line, which is a clue how great this restaurant is I tried the flounder for the first time and it was delicious Angela, our amazing waitress is a consummate pro!
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! Great portions good prices! Lookin forward to visiting when in the area

Yelp
The ambiance is amazing, great southern charm. Great service and friendly service. The food is amazing. Their shrimp were awesome and plenty. Their hush puppies are to kill for. Everything there was amazing and I would highly recommend Hoskins.

Yelp
Pros: The full filet of flounder is amazing! Service is super friendly and quick Food comes out in a timely manner Cons: There is no call ahead seating or wait list. You arrive and wait in line outside, the hostess will come outside and say "a table for 4 is open" and whoever is in line with four people gets to go inside. The posted time is 4:30-9pm but they close early if it's a slow night.

Yelp
Just skip it! I agree with others, that this place is not as good as it was in the past. Last night, we had to wait outside in the cold and then could not be seated as #2 in line since my sister was parking the car. As a result, we ended up last in line after waiting 20 minutes...Then, when my wife ordered, it turns out they really only cater to old people who love all deep fried food and sides full of carbs like baked potato, sweet potato, fries, and sweet potato fries. The extra vegetables were corn and lima beans. She asked for two of the very small side salads in-lieu-of a carb-laden side and was told absolutely not. There are NO substitutions! We thought she was kidding, but no, there was zero customer service, no southern charm, and no southern hospitality. They've never heard that the customer is always right. We had to pay $22 for shrimp and $2 extra to have it grilled instead of fried. Not sure of the exact amount, since I didn't end up with an itemized receipt. The salad was very basic with just greens and croutons. We asked for cheese that was another extra charge. My burger was the best part of the meal. Spoiler alert, this restaurant also charges extra to use a credit card. Overall, all of the extra charges including the credit card fee were over $5. It was interesting that when my sister checked out, the clerk at the register asked how everything was. Funny that she didn't ask me, since I would have told her we were NOT happy with only one side instead of two without any adjustment to the bill, and the food was just okay. My sweet potato was not fully cooked and was very lumpy and pretty small. My sister's sweet potato fries were not hot and just marginal too. We're not sure what they've done to the gumbo recipe recently, but it's also not as good with the change. Last night, it had burnt andouille sausage in it and grilled chicken without any flavor that must have been thrown in at the last minute. Our Mom made the best gumbo and in the past, Hoskins had a good one that was similar. Now, it's not the same...The shrimp was okay, but the prices just keep going higher. For two people, this place is not worth $50 plus tip in my opinion. Check out some other places that have excellent seafood options, reasonable prices, happy hour drinks/food and excellent servers like Flying Fish. It makes me want to skip Hoskins in the future, since there are so many other better restaurants around. They also close down soon (around Thanksgiving), but don't tell anyone until the day before. The re-opening in February around Valentine's Day is also a secret. Overall, we were very disappointed tonight.

Yelp
Hoskin's is an old school Cherry Grove (North Myrtle Beach, SC) institution, so I'm told. So I had to see for myself and it lived up to its long-storied reputation. As we were preparing to leave after a two week vacation in Cherry Grove, a hearty breakfast was in order. Eggs, pancakes, waffles...you know the drill, but my egg & cheese omelet with home fries hit the spot! I got a fluffy homemade biscuit with mine and it made for a perfect bed for a slice of the omelet to make an E&C biscuit (with Texas Pete and black pepper of course). It's pretty basic, no frills, and the old school black and white pictures from yesteryear take you back to the good old days before the coast got completely developed. Give it a try if you are ever down on the South Cackolacky Coast!

Nicole P.

Yelp
Would rate 0 if i could. They were extremely rude/ had a attitude and kicked us out two feet in the door because we were "showing our belly". wouldn't go unless you want to dress for a 5 star restaurant and get 1 star service.

Yelp
Classic family diner. Delicious food. Timely service. Courteous and friendly staff. Clean. Highly recommend for breakfast.

Yelp
Hoskins Restaurant is a family-owned diner-style restaurant that opened in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1948. It was founded by husband and wife Hubert and Leona Hoskins. The couple moved from Murrells Inlet to Ocean Drive to open one of the first restaurants on Myrtle Beach's Grand Strand. Unfortunately, Hubert had an untimely death in 1955 and forced Leona to accept help from her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Bryan Floyd. The newlyweds eventually purchased the restaurant and other various siblings and family members would work there over the following decades. In 1987, the restaurant was taken over by Hubert and Leona's granddaughter and her husband, Tina and Lenton Yates. Their son Travis became more involved with the business in recent years. Hoskins' long-time cook Ollie Pearl Gore has worked there for over 25 years and she only missed one day of work during that entire time. Today the restaurant is most well-known for its traditional southern cooking entrées and seafood dishes. My family and I recently visited Hoskins Restaurant while we were on an East Coast Road Trip. We walked there for dinner one night only to discover a very long line outside. Since we heard such great things, we waited anyway. The wait ended up being an hour, but every customer that came out before then said, "Don't worry, it's worth the wait!" Once we made it inside and looked over the menu, our son ordered a Corndog with Fries off of the Kid's Menu, my wife ordered the Blackened Snapper Tacos (a special that day), and I ordered the Whole Fried Flounder (one of their most popular dishes) which came with Fries, Coleslaw, and Hushpuppies. We were not disappointed! Everything was delicious! I've never had a whole fried flounder before, but I was intrigued by the recommendations and it sure was tasty. Aside from the food, we really liked the small town charm of the restaurant and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We will definitely be back!

Isabelle R.

Yelp
This hallmark restaurant is a beacon for North Myrtle Beach. It has been in business for decades and if you have been, you know why. Don't let the exquisite mom and pop southern cooking fool you - these folks can cook and their always fresh seafood is cooked perfectly. The lines out front move pretty swiftly and call ahead take out is a breeze. Come before their Winter Break or you can start back in February. Such a gem and a deep favorite of ours.!
google avatar

Dawn P.

Yelp
Well , my friend and I went there this morning for breakfast and it was great!! Great service also , thank you Helen ! Service and food was very good . Definitely the place to go for breakfast!

Trina G.

Yelp
One of my absolute favorite places to eat at the beach. The scallops are scrumptious! The line moves fast. Don't let that keep you away
google avatar

Marina N.

Yelp
There's something for everyone on the menu! I got the seafood platter and would highly recommend it for anyone who is craving some good seafood. The small platter was more than enough food for me so I had leftovers for another meal after. Overall, the portions are very filling and worth the money! All of the staff were following COVID regulations. There may be a wait during lunch time (which tells you how good it is), but the line goes by quite fast.
google avatar

Gary D.

Yelp
Food is delicious and the waitresses do a wonderful job taking care of you. Give this place a try you will be glad you did. The lunch menu is the best value. Oh, the lines are long and worth the wait.

Laurel L.

Yelp
My family has been coming here for many years and we are always happy with it. The food is consistent and yummy. Staff is friendly. Prices are good. The only thing is the wait for a table - there is a line down the street every day at peak meal times.

Jeff S.

Yelp
My wife and love to stay in the Cherry Grove area when going to the beach. We go past Hoskins restaurant on our way in and out of Cherry Grove around lunch and dinner time we noticed people line up to eat at Hoskins. So our last vacation we decided to give it a try for breakfast was able to walk right in without a line. The service was great the food was good but nothing special the prices were good but we couldn't figure out why people would stand in line to get in this place. We probably will try the lunch or dinner menu when we go back next year to see if it's any better.

Annette B.

Yelp
This is their OMG DELICIOUS whole flounder! We did take-out and the time getting home did not ruin the meal. They have curbside service for take-out, which was perfect. Order was ready in about 10 minutes.

Roslyn K.

Yelp
One of the best places to eat in Myrtle Beach! Food is great and so is the service. Seafood and prime rib perfect. No better desserts anyway either.
google avatar

Austin T.

Yelp
The food was delicious the service is always great the sweet tea is awesome and the service is good also when it get busy they are still good

Matthew D.

Yelp
I typically don't leave reviews on restaurants but this time is appropriate. We saw/heard a bunch of people saying it's well worth the wait but save your time and money it's not worth it. The food was decent but honestly for the wait I'd choose fast food over this place. Also way overpriced for the quality of food. If i could leave 0 stars I would, safe to say we'll not be back.

Lee M.

Yelp
The food very good and plentiful fair prices as well. No atmosphere but worth the visit . Always a line to get in so be patient.

Gavin W.

Yelp
You may see a line outside but do not panic, it goes extremely fast. Everyone working is extremely nice! I got the salmon while my significant other got the pulled pork bbq. Both were amazing! I am extremely picky when it comes to salmon as I feel most can not cook it properly, they blew it out of the water! Well seasoned, cooked perfectly, and it looked beautiful. My partner said the bbq was amazing but be aware of the bbq as they are spicer than what you may think lol. Would recommend anyone in the area to stop and give them a try! Price is extremely fair as well!
