If you’re asking about my experience at Host in Copenhagen yesterday, I would say the restaurant is somewhat overrated.
When visiting a place like this, the expectation is to be surprised — by bold new flavors and creative presentations. Unfortunately, that wasn’t fully the case.
Among all the dishes, only a few stood out: the scallop, the complimentary shellfish soup, and the ice cream sphere (also a complimentary treat from the chef). These were genuinely impressive and well-executed.
However, the lobster was the biggest disappointment of the evening — rubbery in texture and paired with mushrooms in a way that, in my opinion, masked the delicate flavor of the lobster rather than enhancing it.
The dessert was particularly underwhelming — I’d rate it a 1 out of 5.
Regarding the wine pairings, I was expecting more local wines, especially since the restaurant emphasizes local ingredients. Instead, we were served wines from France and Germany, which felt like a missed opportunity.
I’d also like to mention the open kitchen — it’s a great concept. But seeing the kitchen staff begin cleaning while the restaurant was still fully seated, even if only desserts remained, did take away from the overall experience.
On a positive note, the service was the best part of the evening. I was lucky to have an exceptional waiter — knowledgeable, polite, and engaging. Top marks for hospitality.
