On the Grid : Hostal Regina

"The Regina Corridor is one of those few streets in Centro Historico that really lures you into exploring it at night. For the travelers who want to call this street their home for a few days, a stay at Regina's hostel is recommended. This hostel offers you a central location to the corridor and the heart of Mexico City at an affordable price. Starting this spring, the hostel will also feature a rooftop bar." - Bryant Castro & Abel Coss from Open Late

Hostel is a good value for money. Centro is also convenient for tourist spots, but you might want to stay somewhere like Roma if you don’t want deserted vibes at night. -I see some old reviews about loud party noise, but it was quiet with not much going on even on the weekend. -Wi-Fi in my private room did not work at all. At best I could get a slow connection to the lobby network. Had to pay for more mobile data as a result. -Clean and secure, generally. Good decorations. The sheets and towels are not the best quality though. -Wristband system is strange. There are a lot of reasons not to want everyone to know where you’re staying. But if it’s too late you have to ring the bell and have someone let you in? Would be much better to just have a key or code like anywhere else I’ve been.

Great value! Don't try to sleep early! Nice if you wanna make friends on a trip, I met a few friends i went to the pyramids with, to the Arena E.T.C The rooms are clean, bathrooms shared, and this one evening they offered cocktails and dinner for free (not sure how often that happens) (Breakfast is just a little bit of cereal and maybe some fruit and sometimes a sandwich) I didn't have any pesos since I didn't have time at the airport, and they didn't accept dollars so since I only use cash they took a 50 U$ from me and held it there for insurance untill I had exchanged some cash. There's a kitchen you can use, you can get beers and all kinds of food including Chinese right beside the hotel and the theres some historic places walking distances from there. Their pizza is amazing!

Really nice atmosphere even though there is no light at all. The room and facilities were clean. It's a cool place ....if you don't care about the quality of your sleep. It's very very noisy with techno being played until late. The staff is super nice and the breakfast delicious.

A perfectly sufficient hostel for a few days. We had a double room with a private bathroom. We didn’t miss anything – there was space to store our backpack and belongings, and the room was nice with a street view. The bed was maybe a bit uncomfortable, but that’s expected when traveling. At night, you can hear some noise from the street, but it quiets down as the night goes on. Nothing terrible, and it didn’t bother me. Breakfast always had everything you needed and was tasty. The staff was always helpful, friendly, and spoke English. The hostel had a great location, close to everything. A great place, and if I ever return to Mexico City, I’d happily stay here again.

Some advantageous points of difference, close to bustling restaurant pedestrian mall, easy walk to centro, helpful advice from staff, 24 hours reception, good breakfast

The hostel is right in the Centro Hìstorica, which is great because a lot of the attractions of Mexico City are within walking distance or you can hop on the easy to reach metro. We loved the fact that our private room had two double beds & a balcony overlooking the streets below. The hostel is decorated really beautifully & it really made us feel welcomed to México, which was nice. The staff are also very friendly & helpful. It can get quite cold at night this time of year (October), so we were surprised to see that we were only given a thin blanket to sleep with, a duvet would have kept us much warmer. Unfortunately it can get very loud at night with bars blaring music on the streets below. If you’re a light sleeper, maybe don’t stay here. The same goes in the morning, we were awoken every day to a cafe playing music right next to our window at 7am. The free breakfast is plentiful, although the options are quite limited, we would have liked more variety, but we can’t complain much as it was free. Overall, we would probably stay again despite some of the issues we encountered 😊
