100% recommend. There are many restaurants to choose from in Venice, however this establishment shines above the rest. My husband and I took a 2 week trip to Italy in 2023 and ended the trip with our last 2 nights in Venice. Hostaria da Franz was recommended by our hotel and we ended up loving it so much that we enjoyed dinner there during both of our evenings in Venice. Maurizio and his son Luca provide the most impeccable service and really impressed us with their knowledge and descriptions of local cuisine. You can tell that each dish was well thought out and executed with passion and care. The calamari and all the pasta dishes are amazing. You cannot go wrong with anything you order and if you have any questions, Maurizio will provide you an elegant description of what to expect from any of the dishes. An exceptional and unique high dining experience from the heart. Maurizio and his team are genuinely passionate bringing together the journey of the local produce to plate, presented immaculately and a delight to the senses and palette. We learnt about the history, culture and people through the food and Maurizio's own story of his family run establishment that brings the traditions of Venice through the food created with a modern twist. For me there was a beautiful balance and harmony achieved with the different flavours in each dish and a unique execution that delivered over and above expectations for a Michelin guide restaurant. Everything we ordered was a stand out dish from the Venetian classic of pickled sardines and baccala, Veal tonne and sant erasmo vegetables, Crispy red mullet, miso mayones and bbq fennel, Fish of the day in cooking oil and artichoke prepared two ways, to desert, cocktails, wines and traditional Venetian digestive recommendations are paired back beautifully to our pallets. Dining here is one of those memorable moments that will stay with us and is a must and absolutely worth the money.

9.8/10 totally recommended. Crudites are top-tier quality, carefully prepared and paired - probably one of the best selections I had in years. Char-grilled monkfish is worth a special mention as well. Family owned, you can truly feel the passion and the attention to detail they bring to the customer. Only thing I found a bit odd is the wide selection of great reds and a modest white wine list on the other end. Strange but being Venice it’s understandable.. Definitely worth the trip. We went to Hosteria da Franz after starting to give up on having good food in Venice and we were blown away! Its a family run restaurant with father and son both waiting on the 10 or so tables there. The atmosphere is very peaceful and cozy, a nice break from the chaos outside. The food was fantastic, full of flavor and a great mixture of texture in every bite. We had the grilled octopus, monkfish and asado beef. We had the best Barollo i’ve had in a while (pic included). We loved the white chocolate mousse cake presented as an egg in a nest. I need to come back just for that! Little crack to open it, delicious white chocolate inside with a center of passion fruit. The nest was dried pasta giving the best texture and taste of a desert. Brava!

This place was amazing! Honestly it was a bit hard to sift through all the restaurants in Venice but this place rose to the top. The whole staff was personable and attentive. Maurizio, the owner, showed how much passion he has for this restaurant. Every dish was amazing and we loved discussing each dish with Maurizio. Best place we went to in Venice!

Great place for a good no stress traditional white table cloth dinner. The front of house team of 3 at Hostaria sa Franz was extremely professional and welcoming. From the food selection, to the wines and to the service. 5 starts. We will be back for sure. Calamari is a must!

Maurizio is the perfect maitre, and also the owner of this beautiful restaurant that took over from his dad. He is welcoming his guests with a smile, exquisite kindness and fluently in French and English and, obviously, his Italian is pretty good too :) The ambience is traditional but not heavy. The mise en place is simple but sophisticated. Everything is thought in the details. Nothing is left to chance, Maurizio is taking care of everyone with attention. You will feel spoilt. The menu proposes dishes of the Italian and Venetian tradition revisited with a fresh touch. It is not a simple meal but a sensorial experience. Embrace it. Dare always, you won't be disappointed. Last but not least, compliment to the chef for mastering the ingredients in such a perfect way. You guys are a definition of italian excellence. Thanks, you made my day. amazing restaurant that I ever run into in Italy! We tried several dishes and vinos for dining, each of which are far beyond the expectation with high bar of tasting festa. What impress me most is the raw catch fish of the day, 5 kinds of sashimi like hybrid as starter, which makes you in touch base with local aucientic seafood with vibrant bite! I am not the Cab person but the ravioli with squid and cold spaghetti are both blast! Wine paring are so great if you follow the somm’s instruction. I do believe the Franz has defined a high standard of dining and drinking with respect of local heritage. I would recommend anyone who visit Venice do give a try!
