Loiseau du Morvan

"In a relaxing and minimalist setting, diners sample fine and tasty "healthy cuisine", including numerous organic or gluten - free options. The cooking is technically sound, and there is no lack of subtlety in their offering; an enjoyable experience." - Michelin Inspector

Loiseau du Morvan

"Opposite the Relais Bernard Loiseau, housed in a 17C building, this bistro offers an alternative to the fine dining restaurant. Here, local and regional recipes take pride of place, such as the eggs in a red wine sauce or the chicken Gaston Gérard. Comfortable guestrooms done out in unadulterated Burgundy style." - Michelin Inspector

We stayed a full week at this super local hotel. Of course our time was influenced by the virus of 2020, however the guidelines for the hotel were super clear and everybody seemed to follow them. Reception was friendly and efficient (with English speaking hosts) The room (16) we had has superb views of Saulieu, but is close to the main road so can be a bit noisy when the windows are open. However, this room has so many windows which makes it worth to stay there just for the light in the room. The air conditioning in the room is sufficient, however the condensation can create a little water on the floor. The room is spacious, quiet when the windows are closed and lovely authentic. Breakfast is Continental and served as a buffet, for us it was all we needed for a strong start of the day. The swimming pool is not too big but sufficient for a short plunge before dinner or after a long day of hiking in Burgundy. This is a lovely hotel in a small village, we would 100% recommend staying here for visiting the Morvan and surrounding villages. Footnotes: be aware the key is quiet large with a heavy key ring, as requested we left this at the reception during the day. However there are no safes in the room.

Nice, clean and charming old hotel. We stayed here one night with kids on our way to south of France. We dined in the restaurant that had a nice local selection. Especially the kids menu was of good value. Would definitelly come again. The town is very small and feels ancient.

Rooms very small simple but clean. Be sure to ask for a garden room … the one we got towards the street horribly noisy couldn’t sleep and very hot! Beginning of June and has very strong sun all day long!

This family run hotel has a lot of charm and authenticity. The setting of the hotel is on the hill, which gives you nice view and the decoration of the hotel is very unique. We also had a diner in the hotel - the food, the wine (and the flavour) were splendid! It is worth to mention that all food is hand made and souced from the local farmers. I would highly recomend this hotel to anyone, who is looking for cosy and charming stay with a great food!

Impressive old, but well preserved monastery building in central Saulieu; good location to explore the town on foot; friendly staff; nice and clean rooms, but too small; enjoyed dinner at restaurant in beautiful backyard garden; they also have a swimming pool in the garden; we did not have breakfast; there were ear plugs ready in the room, later in the evening we knew why: also during the night numerous large trucks drive past the hotel through downtown Saulieu and many of them honk when they pass; no idea why and nothing the hotel can do about, but it is very annoying!

There isn’t much to do or see in the town, but the inn made a perfect stopover for one night. The room was small, simple and clean (probably not a place you’d want to hang out though for any length of time) and there’s also a swimming pool and garden should the weather turn hot. The hotel reception was furnished in a charming French style with a stone fireplace and floor, antiques and a dramatic plaster cast of Hercules in the bar area. As this appeared to be closed, we found a little bar down the road to sample a glass of the local white wine which was delicious. We wandered back to the hotel, first stopping at the hotel across the street run by the Michelin starred chef Bernard Loiseau (who appears to own many of the buildings and businesses in the area) before dinner at our hotel. The dining room was in a small conservatory, with friendly staff and a traditional menu of soup, steak, fish and salads. All in all the experience was fine and good value for money although I wouldn’t go out of my way to return! By the way, for small foodie gifts and bottles of wine, the little shop across the road (part of Loiseau’s ‘empire’) is definitely with visiting. Everything is beautifully wrapped in seconds by the charming staff.

We stayed for 2 nights on our way to Italy. The room was a decent size and quiet as it was facing the garden. The hotel is on the main road set back about 20 metres. There is heavy goods traffic along the main road, so I don't know if the front rooms would be noisy.||The restaurant was good with excellent service. There is limited parking off road for about 5 vehicles so best to reserve a place if you are concerned. There is ample public parking very close by.

We looked for somewhere to eat while staying across the road at Relais Bernard Loiseau and came across this little gem. We had not made any bookings for the evening and hoped to find something typically "local". Of course we hauled out TripAdvisor (my trusted travel companion) and found this restaurant which is one of the top few in the area. ||||We were lucky to get a table outside on a calm warm evening. We drank a bottle of Rose from Provence and ate the set 39 Euro menu (my husband) while i ate two courses off the a la carte. While the food was not amazing, we ate a Michelin starred restaurants the two nights before and the one after, it was definitely a very satisfactory meal at a fraction of the price. The duck we had for the main course was DELICIOUS and quite one of the nicest main courses we had on our trip. ||||All in all it was a very nice interlude, unassuming, very pretty terrace, dignified friendly service, and the price was right- 100 Euros with a bottle of wine and three courses. A fraction of the price of Bernard Loiseau's 3 starred Michelin restaurant over the road and while it could not really compare, nor should it, it was a very enjoyable meal with the excellent company of my husband.
