There isn’t much to do or see in the town, but the inn made a perfect stopover for one night. The room was small, simple and clean (probably not a place you’d want to hang out though for any length of time) and there’s also a swimming pool and garden should the weather turn hot. The hotel reception was furnished in a charming French style with a stone fireplace and floor, antiques and a dramatic plaster cast of Hercules in the bar area. As this appeared to be closed, we found a little bar down the road to sample a glass of the local white wine which was delicious. We wandered back to the hotel, first stopping at the hotel across the street run by the Michelin starred chef Bernard Loiseau (who appears to own many of the buildings and businesses in the area) before dinner at our hotel. The dining room was in a small conservatory, with friendly staff and a traditional menu of soup, steak, fish and salads. All in all the experience was fine and good value for money although I wouldn’t go out of my way to return! By the way, for small foodie gifts and bottles of wine, the little shop across the road (part of Loiseau’s ‘empire’) is definitely with visiting. Everything is beautifully wrapped in seconds by the charming staff.
