Hostellerie d'Héloïse

"Wholesome regional dishes – Burgundy snails, Charolais beef and a reduction of red wine from Mâcon, together with tempting traditional recipes (roast turbot, mashed cauliflower and veal gravy), have built the reputation of this hostelry, which also proposes more modern dishes and a splendid choice of wines by the glass. Lovely bright conservatory overlooking the River Grosne. Rooms for overnight stays." - Michelin Inspector

We stopped overnight on our way north and were warmly welcomed. Our room was on the top floor (no lift) . The room was a little old fashioned but spotlessly clean . I immediately turned off all heating on arrival but it stayed warm all night and we could not open the windows because we had our cats with us. Comfortable beds.|We had the Menu d'Heliose for dinner and it was really good - it started with some tasters and then I had a salad of smoked trout followed by sea bream with a parsnip risotto. The owner recommended a really good bottle of Macon Bussière white wine.|Breakfast was good , I liked the lemon drizzle cake. Friendly efficient service.|It is situated beside a train line and a busy road so if the windows were open this might be a problem but we didn't here any noise with the closed windows.|I would stop here again - 257€ for DBB is reasonable.|Black mark to Trip Advisor for putting a picture of the Abbey instead of the hotel

Amazing food and service in a very refined context. Ate there a few times but never stayed at the hotel.

Old fashioned and homely hotel by a busy road and the now defunct Cluny station. Location is very convenient for cyclists using the voie verte and also for the bus stop to Maçon TGV station. |The lounge and dining room are very attractive and restful overlooking the Grosne river. The rooms are comfortable and although we had rooms directly adjacent to the road, the quadruple glazing kept the noise out well. Road noise might be an issue if the weather was hot however and there was a need to keep the windows open overnight.|We did not eat at the restaurant as frustratingly, our tour company had told us erroneously that there was no need to book ahead. The breakfast was very good however. The owners were charming and very helpful and we were able to leave our bags with them while we explored the town before getting the Maçon bus. We would like to return in the future and next time will be sure to book the restaurant in advance.

The room for 2 adults and 2 children was spacious and confortable but very noisy in summer, when you need to keep the windows open because there is no air conditioning. The breakfast was pricey for what you get, no variety. And the dinner is very good for adults, although expensive. The menu for children is the same food they have for adults but in smaller portions. Not really for kids. Definitely not a family friendly place.

My 4-star rating comes from 5 for the restaurant but just a 3 for the room. The bar and restaurant areas are excellent as is the food and wine. A table on the enclosed veranda gives calm views of the slow-moving river. The rooms, we saw two before choosing, were remarkably large but both needed some renovation and redecoration. That said, we had a comfortable night and a delightful meal. The staff were attentive and helpful.

We stayed at the Hostellerie d’Heloise during a 120 km family cycle ride from Beaune to Mâcon. When we arrived the owner was friendly and helpful. Our rooms were cosy with nice bathrooms. The WiFi worked well. We had a really nicely cooked, well judged dinner (a great cheese course - probably the best I have had in 40 years of coming to Burgundy) and a superb selection of Burgundy wines to choose from. The following morning we had a very good breakfast before the owner was again very helpful in getting us on our way. I would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling through Burgundy!

We stayed for two nights at this Hostellerie on the border of Cluny, at walking distance from the centre. We had a comfortable room on the second floor (there is no elevator) with a new bathroom, very clean, and a separate toilet. The single beds were box springs of excellent quality.|We had dinner in the restaurant and this was very good as well. Good service and fine tasting dishes. We had the Marché d’Heloïse menu and Le Terroir. We can recommend both. Only negative remark: for €11 per person we found breakfast quite sparse. No eggs and only one round of coffee. Very friendly staff!

We stayed here for a second time on our way to the Côte d'Azur. Decent and clean place with large, two bedroom family room. We didn't have dinner here this year, because last year it was disappointing. For adults the menu is great and the wine list is excellent, but for kids it was slim pickings. Steak or mackerel for a four year old? Really? Only in France. Had dinner in Cluny instead, and that has plenty to offer. |Be aware that this place has no air conditioning. We were there on one of the hottest days of the year (40 degrees) and at night it was still 30 degrees+ in the room. Luckily we had a couple of fans we took from the car.
