Le Charme de la Semois

"The picturesque Semois river and valley set the scene for this delightful riverside Ardennes country inn. The interior is amusingly adorned with a collection of hens, bringing the promise of bygone flavours on the menu. Fiercely traditional, the food is simple and generous and will delight lovers of authentic fare." - Michelin Inspector

Only visited the restaurant. Fantastic beef tataki and dorada, but average-low everything else in what concerns food. Very nice personnel. The 3 for service regards food.

My wife and I enjoyed the appetizer, main dish chicken, and dessert. Everything had a very delicate flavor and was delicious. We are also very satisfied with the delicious breakfast. In the morning, We took a walk near the river flowing near the hotel and were amazed by the beautiful scenery.

Very disappointing experience with their menu Bib Gourmand : Long waiting times between each dish (we arrived at 19:00 and left at 22:30), moreover, the food was not great with a dessert with almost no taste. Certainly not worth 48€. Even though the atmosphere was nice, I will certainly not come back. My Friends who did not want he menu chose the half-homard with pasta which they appreciated quite much.

I stayed one night in this charming, comfortable hotel. Check-in was completed quickly and efficiently; the room was spacious, well appointed and simply but effectively decorated - I loved the colour scheme throughout. There were no tea-making facilities - but a kettle, cups and tea were provided as soon as we asked.||||The mattress was softer than I was accustomed to, but the bed was comfortable. The only minus point as far as sleeping was concerned was that the noise of the shower in the next room was audible, and there was a buzzing noise coming from either the lift or some sort of generator. This might bother a light sleeper.||||Breakfast was excellent and plentiful, taken in an airy dining room: fresh orange juice, good coffee, eggs (scrambled or boiled), bacon, salmon, cremant, a choice of cereal and dried fruit, croissants, a selection of bread and rolls, cheese... nothing was missing. We did not eat in the restaurant in the evening but it looked very cosy and I saw there was a good selection of wine. ||||I would recommend this hotel and stay here again.

I regularly go to this restaurant and I have never been disappointed. High standard food for a very very regular price. Choice of wines also good. The owner is always present and controlling everything so that the service is excellent as well. Definitely a place to recommend.

November 11nd 2017,||||Leaving from home for a two hour drive to Redu, to meet our friends for lunch at Le Fournil, a brasserie on the village square. It was nice to see each other again after a while and to have some small talk. Le fournil serves classic Belgian food that we all enjoyed.|| ||Before driving on to the hotel, we had a walk trough the woods. This time of year all dressed in autumn coloured leaves. An almost two-hour walk along a trail on the edges of a river. enclosed on both sides by steeping hills. At twilight, around five o'clock, we found ourselves heading for the hotel, in time to check-in. We booked a two night stay, that included a gastronomic dinner on Saturday and a three course dinner on Sunday evenings and breakfast.||||We got a warm welcome, on arrival, by one of the staff members who showed us to our rooms, where she gave the necessary explanation on the use of the lighting and the jacuzzi. The suites, all with baconies, houses in a brand new building, overlooking the river Semois and the surrounding hillsides. Reception, bar, restaurant and some of the standard and superior rooms is to find in the main building.||||We had time left for an apéritif in the cosy bar, before we were asked to take a seat at our table. From starter till dessert, the food was presented beautifully and had great flavours. As had the accompanying wines. Coffee was served in the bar and so to bed.||||Sunday morning. At breakfast, eggs are cooked to order, fried, scrambled or poached. The buffet offers a selection of bread, toast, croissants, fresh fruit and juices, muesli, yoghurts, cheeses and meats. coffee, tea. All you need tot start you day with a smile on your face.||||Up to Bouillon, wee we visit a 'game and hunting' themed market, held this weekend. Despite grey skies and drizzly showers in between, the weather couldn't spoil our holiday mood, strolling from one market stall to another. Hotel de la Poste, with its marvellous at deco interior, was one of the few places that had a free table for a late lunch.||||Later that afternoon we drove back to the hotel, as it was raining cats and dogs and all hope got lost for a walk around the village. But we got lucky when it stopped raining just in time. After a while, half of our party didn't feel up to continue and decided to return to the hotel. The other half kept on going, but soon found themselves on a mission impossible, as the trail into the woods ended and the only way out seemed to be a steep, narrow path climbing up against wooded the hillside.||||But all ends well, as we reached the hotel just before dark, ready to tell our hazardous adventure later that evening. We were all heroes, in telling a story, at dinner. Another great meal and wines as the evening went on, having a good night rest after an eventful day.||||Monday morning, after breakfast, we checked out, ready to drive back home. By midday we stopped at Dinant for a quick lunch. Then it was time to say goodbye to our friends. To avoid any traffic jam in the capital, we took an secondary route. A coffee stop in Halle and a visit to the basilca made a fine close of the day.

First night for a group meal for 11 in what appeared to be a very nice hotel in Belgium; clean and tidy and a nice restaurant. However, when we were made aware of the contents of the set menu there were a number that had various food allergies and so when we were told that the first course was fish, three told the manager/owner the hotel had been advised of this by e-mail some weeks before when the meal was booked and she would have to arrange an alternative course. What happened next was inexcusable; first of all the manager/owner, in front of 11 paid guests and further full restaurant, told us in no uncertain terms that she would not change the set menu and we have to 'take it or leave it'. she then continued to argue with the group leader for a further full five minutes in front of everyone, then a young waitress decided to have her say and it was at least one minute until the manager told her to 'shut up'. It was bad enough being told what to do by the 'hired help' but then the chef came out of the kitchen and spent a further 8 minutes shouting as to why he would not do a dish alternative. We all looked on in disbelief, as did the rest of the restaurant, but she finally caved in and three meat dishes arrived - without doubt the most unprofessional, embarrassing behaviour I have ever seen for what is a very common allergy. My advise is steer clear of this establishment if you want anything other than what the management says you can have for dinner.

I was taken here for lunch by my Belgian friends, what a lovely location. Rustic decor with a modern touch. Food was excellent, I can recommend the steak American. Remember to only have one beer, it's a wonder the Belgians can still stand up ! A convivial lunch in delightful surroundings, I only wish I had booked a room ! I will certainly hunt Le Charme out again, & this time try to stay longer.
