Hostinec na Výtoni - Review - Vyšehrad - Prague - The Infatuation

"You may not have woken up this morning and thought: I would love to eat some great duck tonight, but after reading this you might have to hop on a tram that chugs south along the Vltava River to Vyšehrad, Prague’s other castle. Anchored in a medieval customs house for boatmen that delivered spruce from southern Bohemia, the interior of Hostinec na Výtoni is coated in similar timber, creating a warm and inviting vibe to spend a couple of hours grazing on fowl and sipping golden-hued lager." - David Farley

Hostinec na Výtoni – Prague A fantastic local restaurant serving authentic Czech cuisine in a warm and traditional atmosphere. Very popular with locals, so I highly recommend making a reservation in advance. The food was excellent, especially the roasted duck, which is one of their specialties. Everything tasted homemade and full of flavour. The portions are generous, and the presentation is simple but inviting. The service was friendly, fast, and attentive. The staff also speak English, which makes it easy for visitors. It can get a bit lively and noisy at times, but that’s part of the charm of a real Czech pub-style restaurant. ⭐️ 5 stars – authentic local food, friendly service, great atmosphere. A must-visit when in Prague.

It’s a duck cuisine specialty restaurant located a bit outside the city. Welcomed with a warm smile from the staff, I sat at an antique wooden table and chair inside a historic wooden building. After a short wait, the best service followed. Dipping the crispy fried duck giblets generously into the dipping sauce, I found myself taking two or three sips of beer without even realizing it. The half portion of roasted duck was impressive, with its crispy skin and tender, juicy meat. Before I knew it, my beer was gone, so I ordered a homemade lemonade, whose refreshing citrus flavor cleansed my palate perfectly. This place has a level of class that can’t be compared to other tourist restaurants. It was a delightful meal. Thank you for making my day so enjoyable.

We were lucky enough to have this as our first meal in Prague. From the bread and butter (not butter exactly, it was a kind of duck oil, it was smooth and full of flavour), soup, salad, to the main dish roast duck, everything was amazing, there was nothing to criticise at all. The duck was so soft and full of flavour, it was one of the best duck I have ever had. If I will come back to Prague I am definitely coming back for a big meal here. Better reserve for a table, because the restaurant is so popular and empty seats may not be available.

A must visit for anyone who enjoys duck! The most tender duck I have ever tasted, very delicious and juicy. The fish dish was also very nice. The bread with lard is good too, but be careful not to be overly generous when you spread the lard as it is very heavy, especially if you have half a duck to eat afterwards! The dessert was the only dish I did not fully enjoy, as I found it to be overly sweet. One thing that I haven’t seen enough people recommend is the homemade lemonade! Oh my goodness, it was phenomenal and by far the best lemonade of our whole trip in Prague! You have to try it!

Google
Prague, the city where you can find more ducks on your plate during lunch than on the water of the Vltava river. And if you want the best, the amazingly succulent yet crispy, the most creative and ever so tasty duck dishes, you want to come to this place. Duck black pudding, battered hearts and livers and close to the best half grilled duck ever tasted. Would definitely recommend!

We came here and started with a beer and some appetizers — duck liver and heart. Honestly, really good! We also tried the sourdough bread, and that was delicious too. Then Milan, our amazing server, recommended the grilled duck breast — and wow! Crispy skin, super tender meat — absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling to Prague. Amazing taste, amazing experience. Thank you! 🙌🦆🍻🇨🇿 #PragueEats #DuckDish #TravelFoodie

We went there slightly before 1PM without reservation and luckily got seated immediately. Afterwards many more people had to wait. Service is quick and very friendly. I love the appetizer, soup and of course the complimentary liquor.

Wow this was for sure the best duck dish I ever had in Prague. Great portion size and amazing flavours of the duck itself but also the sides were very good. Nice friendly and knowledgeable staff and the interior looked wonderful with all the small details based on the ducks. I felt like I travelled back in time but in the best way possible. Highly recommend if you looking for proper Czech food experience. Reasonable pricing for the quality received. Will be 100% back here!

Yelp
Our tour guide recommended this place which specializes in Czech style roast ducks. My wife and I walked from the Charles Bridge along the river for 36 minutes and it was such an unforgettable dinner experience! We ordered the half grilled duck, the pulled duck meat wrapped in potato pancakes, smoked potatoes side dish and a glass of beer. The grilled duck had delicious crispy skin and tender meat in a sauce, not too greasy. We normally don't eat duck skins due to grease, but we finished it all this time. The pulled duck meat wrapped in potato pancakes with cabbage was also out of this world! The smoke potatoes dazzled with fried onion or garlic crisps was also delicious. Our friendly server, Martin, made us feel very welcomed. This has been one of the best meals we have had in Europe! It offers good value, i don't believe i can find an affordable meal with such high quality in the U.S. The restaurant has beautiful settings, it offers plenty of outdoor space for Summer dining. Although we did not make a reservation, we were seated quickly. Martin recommends making reservations since the place is always crowded. You can use the QR code to check menus in English and make reservations.

Yelp
Unbelievable duck entries. The duck meatloaf sandwich was beyond good as was the pulled duck wrapped in potatoes pancakes. The cheese appetizer for sure. Do not miss this place.

Yelp
So far this is probably my favorite place to eat. Good authentic czech food, not expensive and tasty.

Yelp
It was my first time in Europe and I was fortunate enough to go to Praha. I was with my friend who is native to the Czech Republic and she and I had been walking the city since the morning hours. Our legs were tired and it was getting cold and Hostinec na Vitoni was the last stop before our tram to our hotel. It I had seen it before and thought it was very interesting, had considered having beer there since it's close to our hotel, and at that time seemed perfect for a warm drink after a long day. It was October 13th at 10:35 pm (22:35) and we asked and older lady behind the bar for hot tea. She replied, " I am closing at 11 pm." My friend said, "Ok. We will have tea and leave right after. We figured we still had 25 minutes. " The older lady then repeated, "I am closing at 11 o'clock!" My friend didn't understand that the lady didn't want to serve us and then repeated herself as well. Annoyed and angrily the woman asked what kind of tea we wanted but then started slamming her glasses down and making it obvious she was upset. I then said aloud, "Just cancel the order if she's going to be that way. " I quickly used the restroom(since we had been walking so long) and left. She couldn't even make any eye contact the entire time with us and said nothing, even as we were leaving. What didn't make sense is there were maybe 3 tables of ppl drinking who were enjoying themselves and didn't look to be leaving soon. Though we were only getting tea, had she been nice, we would have loved to have come back for beer. Such horrible customer service! Both my friend and I work VERY long hours in the service industry and deal with difficult people every day. But even so, on our worst days, still know how to suck it up and TRY and at least be nice.
