"The only bakery in Sunriver, Hot Lava makes its own bagels and croissants for locals and tourists seeking a breakfast pastry. It’s a great place to start the day in the Village, with a latte and a ham, Parmesan, and chive quiche. The shop’s doughnuts are also a treat, gargantuan and freshly glazed. From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., river floaters or skiers can pick up a burrito or a breakfast sandwich on a croissant or bagel, as well as a knockout BLT for lunch." - Barb Gonzalez

Google
I ordered a custom cake and brown butter chocolate chip cookies from Hot Lava Bakery for a party, and everything exceeded expectations! The ordering process was seamless— the team was incredibly knowledgeable, communicative, and helpful from start to finish. Our order was ready exactly when promised, and they even coordinated local delivery, which was super convenient and handled perfectly. The cake was both stunning in presentation and absolutely delicious—rich, flavorful, and beautifully done. The cookies were a 10/10—perfectly chewy with that amazing brown butter flavor. Highly recommend Hot Lava Bakery whether you’re stopping in for pastries in the morning or planning something special. Can’t wait to order again!

Snowy walk to a bakery, couldn't ask for a better way to spend time with family! Such a cute shop. We really loved the Bigfoot donut!

Google
Excellent breakfast sandwiches and pastries! Sandwiches are made fresh and to-order, so they can take a while. But your patience will be well paid off! We got the Mountain Man Sandwich on a Croissant (ham, sausage, bacon, cheddar, egg, onion and chipotle sauce, $12.50) and a Lava Sandwich on a Cheese Bagel (ham, egg, cheddar, red onion and jalapeños, $11.75). Holy heck, they were totally worth the price and tasted awesome. The Lava Sandwich was full of jalapenos that did give a lil bit of a kick, so beware! Of course, I had to grab some sweets, we picked up the iconic Big Foot Donut ($3.75) Dulce de Leche Turnover ($3.75) and a Marionberry Strudel ($5.50). While they were all delicious, the strudel by far was the best! It’s a huge piece completely stuffed with sweet marionberry sauce enveloped in beautifully flaky pastry. My new favorite! 10/10 recommend.

Google
We ate here every morning we were staying in Sunriver, and there's a reason: everything we tried was fantastic! Breakfast sandwiches, cookies, turnovers... especially delicious was the Argentinian croissant (Medialunas), that was dense but soft and perfectly sweet. The shop is kinda small/tight, but in the warmer months, the outside seating is ideal. Can't wait to visit again!

Google
Attended a party where the cake and brown butter chocolate chip cookies were from Hot Lava Bakery—absolutely incredible! Highly recommend checking them out. We’ll definitely be stopping by for more treats next time we’re in the area!

Jenna Roering

Google
Amazing cookies and cake, would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a special birthday treat. We also went back for breakfast burritos & coffee, which were equally as amazing! Hot Lava Bakery really does it all.

Samantha Brooks

Google
Very cute bakery with friendly staff! I had the quiche, chocolate croissant, and cinnamon roll, all very delicious! The croissant was huge! Also love that they serve Sisters Coffee Company coffee, really enjoyed my latte:)

Google
This is an amazing place. Lines are out the door. My sister-n-law got me the lemon tart, really good. The Brownie was just ok. I went back the next morning and got their bread pudding. I haven't tried it yet, but I did have their apple strudel and it is amazing. My wife had the maple bar, also amazing.

Tracy D.

Yelp
Man, their cinnamon rolls are light and fluffy like a cloud, and perfectly delicious. Not too much or too little cinnamon. You have a choice between "iced" (has light icing) or "frosted" (heavy frosting) rolls. I really appreciate they offer the two choices rather than only one. They offer MANY other delicious baked goods but the cinnamon rolls are on a WHOLE other level. Coffee is decent. Staff are welcoming and friendly. The shop itself is on the smaller side with just a few seats inside.

Kristie P.

Yelp
Our families favorite things are maple bars and Bigfoot so when I seen they have Bigfoot maple bar donuts, well.. YES please. Were like to think we were maple bar connoisseurs and these were perfection. We also got a cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting and blueberry lemon scone. Everything is super sized so we ate on them for a couple days. Yummy coffee too.

Amy F.

Yelp
I was hesitant to try this place because of the reviews but we did and the scones were delicious! We will definitely be back.

Jackie Z.

Yelp
We ordered from Blondie's pizza last night for dinner and since our order took 15 minutes to be made we walked over to the village to check out the shops, restaurants and stores so we could come back today and check it all out. We were surprised at all the yummy treats that Hot Lava had. So my oldest daughter and I picked out items we liked and treats we thought my Mom and youngest daughter would like. We also got an Oregon Sunshine smoothie and were excited to see they make it with real frozen fruit. Everything was so yummy! We will definitely be back when we are in Sunriver.

Preston B.

Yelp
This place has yummy baked goods! We tried the cranberry orange scone and caramel pecan roll. Both were delicious!

Angie H.

Yelp
We visited here on a trip to Bend and I really wanted the Bigfoot donut. The three stars is for the long wait and the service, which was less than friendly. The donut, I must say, was absolutely delicious and I would go there again just for that. Sooo fresh, soft, and perfect frosting.

Taylor A.

Yelp
Amazing donuts! Some of the best I've found around the area! Friendly staff. I visit often and have always had a great experience

Ken C.

Yelp
Went there early one morning with my wife and kids. My little 6 year old daughter ordered the big foot maple doughnut. It looked like a big foot with toes and everything. It was quite large so I took a bite. It was the best maple doughnut I've ever eaten.... Ok honestly it was the best doughnut I've ever eaten. I didn't know a doughnut could taste that good. Don't let the big foot looking doughnut with sprinkles fool you. It is life changing and not meant just for kids. After the first morning we went back every morning we were in sunriver.

Tiffany H.

Yelp
Lovely unique coffee shop with speciality baked goods. The caramel brownie was memorable.

C T.

Yelp
Nice selection of pastries. The Bigfoot donuts were so cute. Nice to have outside seating options.

Alona C.

Yelp
We came here yesterday and I completely agree with the other folks that state that the customer service at this place is seriously lacking. As a sun river home owner, we have been coming to this place for many years. We like to support the local businesses vs the other coffee chains in the village. However after yesterday's experience I have no desire to come back. The young girl , who mind you we were her only customers, who was working yesterday was so incredibly rude , I literally didn't even get myself a drink even though we walked there in a snowstorm. Any question that was asked of her was met with incredible attitude and she wouldn't look us in the eyes. When you pay 6.50 for a children's hot chocolate and 9 dollars for a smoothie I expect at the very least polite service if not someone who can answer a question in a pleasant manner. Definitely agree that the staff here needs training on customer service. This is like our go to pastry shop when in town but I don't want to go back

Abbey C.

Yelp
We love donuts. The big foot donut with the maple icing and sprinkles was the best maple donut we have ever had. The dough was light and fluffy. The icing was rich, pure and authentic. SO yummy. Definitely worth the stop.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
As a server in the hospitality industry, I was disappointed that the staff of young workers could not be bothered to provide timely customer service. We wait for 25 minutes in line & observed the staff operate at snail's pace. We ordered 3 donuts where no one made eye contact & barely spoke to us. It would be very beneficial for an owner or manager to be on site, demonstrating a strong work ethic & guiding their young workers to perform better. I am a major over-tipper, because I know how waiting on people can be really challenging. I just couldn't. I wish you all the best.

Mary Elizabeth H.

Yelp
If you have a sweet tooth, the donuts and pastries will send you into a blissful state. I crave the breakfast sandwiches, made to order on house-made croissants or as a wrap. This bakery has been around for many years and has recently been bought by a talented chocolatier. Her special order cakes are works of art and she generously donates her baked goods to local charity events. If you are visiting Sunriver during a busy holiday season, bring along something to do while you patiently wait in line - this is a small shop with a large following!

Jack H.

Yelp
We stopped in for donuts the other day and they didn't disappoint. Ended up taking home what we had since they were huge. My kids loved it!

Colleen H.

Yelp
Cute bakery. We walked over from our condo on our vacation and they had nice fluffy croissants and donuts. The only downside was they pretty much ran out of all the favs by 11. Otherwise would have been a 5 star.

M M.

Yelp
They have great pastries, Iced latte was OK but they're definitely a bakery and not a coffee shop so that is fair. Try their cinnamon twist it's to die for!

Kj C.

Yelp
Two breakfast burritos, donut holes and chocolate and strawberry milks. Burritos: piping hot (or at least felt that way through the bag). Get them home and they're ice cold in yhe middle. Eggs on one are super soggy (powdered eggs?) Weirdest breakfast burrito ive ever had. Like they heated up I the tortilla, cooked the egg mixture in top, piled fillings in middle and rolled them up, hoping the egg would heat everything up. Nope. Cold. Good thing i was hungry.

Mona R.

Yelp
Stopped here for coffee and some sweets for breakfast. This is one of places that my husband and his family used to go for morning breakfasts every morning years ago. They had a good selection of pastries. We bought a cinnamon roll for my stepson, a maple bar for my husband and a orange cranberry scone for me. The cinnamon roll was really good, the frosting was tasty and rich with cream cheese but a little much. To be honest I didn't taste any orange in the scone though I saw some orange zest in there. The scone was also a little doughy for my taste. The service was great but the food and coffee was not so hot.

Kara S.

Yelp
Wonderful service, breakfast, and pastries. We ordered a variety of breakfast sandwiches and pastries - the filly chocolate jelly donut was one of the best pastries I've had on the west coast.

Mad C.

Yelp
The food is great but it is expensive. Service is slow. Ambiance is great. I liked the scone.

Amy S.

Yelp
This place is great! The coffee is high quality and delicious. The bagels and breakfast sandwiches are really good as well. I highly recommend!

Jenny W.

Yelp
We called and ordered a custom birthday cake for my mother-in-law's 60th birthday. We're not from near by, so we'd never been to/ordered from Hot Lava Bakery before. We ordered 5 days in advance, but they said they take orders as late as 2 days in advance, which is awesome! I sent in a picture of what I wanted, and it exceeded my expectations. It was simply stunning, and best of all, it was just as delicious as it was beautiful!

Gigi O.

Yelp
Honestly surprised by the good reviews of this place. I will say there was nothing in particular that made our experience horrible, but it was definitely lackluster and I probably wouldn't come back either. Upon entering, this spot smells overwhelmingly sweet. As someone with an incredibly large sweet tooth, this might sound great, but there wasn't anything that caught my eye and the sugar smell was almost nauseating. The employees were nice but the girl who helped us seemed to try and confuse us while ordering our food which I found to be a little off putting. I ordered a fritter and a chocolate donut. The fritter was not bad but not great either. It tasted burnt in some parts and oily in others. The chocolate donut tasted stale. I was a little disappointed we had even stopped by after finishing about half of each item. Maybe it was an off day, maybe not. It was hard to tell. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit again the next time I'm in SunRiver. This spot is honestly more like a donut shop than any bakery I've ever been to. TLDR; get some shaved ice next door instead.

Yelp
Best mochas and best cookies! Defiantly love the marionberry turnover as well - so flakey! We eat here every morning when we stay in Sunriver! Customer service is sometimes a little spotty - maybe some of them aren't morning people?

Darryl J.

Yelp
Great sandwiches for lunch, then enjoyed delicious cookies afterwards. We had the chocolate chip, dark chocolate and snickerdoodles. Also wonderful customer service skills, definitely a go to place for a enjoyable meal. Highly recommended!

Karol C.

Yelp
Cecelia made wonderful strawberry champagne cupcakes for the Sunriver women's club October lunch. I have also had her chocolate cake... Best I've ever had.

Mary F.

Yelp
Too expensive. Who likes to spend over $30 for a handful of donuts. Tasty but not worth the cost.

R M.

Yelp
The employee was so kind, friendly and professional. I had the marionberry fritter and coffee with a splash of oat milk. The cafe is sweet and inviting. My coffee wasn't warm enough but she happily warmed it up for men

Morgan H.

Yelp
Staff is always really nice. Yummy breakfast sandwiches and Greta coffee. Always a great playlist. The place is such a vibe.

Elise F.

Yelp
Long lines so get there early! Very nice donuts, soft and fresh. The standout for us was the strudel both apple and Marionberry. Beautiful cases, cakes look amazing but didn't try one. They do take long to fill boxes because they keep the display with one of each donut and trays of everything are separate so be prepared to wait! Owner is very nice. Will definitely visit again.

J K.

Yelp
Wow, incredibly delicious. Simply made to perfection. Highly recommend this bakery not only for its amazing baked goods, but also for the lovely staff. Everything made with intention and love.

Max R.

Yelp
I don't think I've been in a business where the employees are as unwilling to please a customer. We showed up just after twelve noon and were told: "We don't serve breakfast anymore, just lunch". We looked at the lunch menu and every item we asked about, we were told that they were out. So much for "lunch". I guess it's a new business but my suggestion is very simple: stay there the entire day, work hard to please your customers and above all make sure you have product available at a decent price. Absentee ownership doesn't work!!

Sarah D.

Yelp
OK, take everything you know about this place, screw it up in a ball & see if you can make that shot into the wastepaper basket. There is a new baker in town, and let me just say that my ability to wear my old jeans is now seriously endangered! Cecilia comes to Sunriver with a background as a chocolatier and brings with her the class and fancy treats that Hot Lava has sorely needed for years. Her meringues are succulent, her dulce de lece is silky, the lemon meringue.... OMG. Welcome, Cecilia - we are so glad you are here!

Claire T.

Yelp
This may very well be my favorite bakery ever. Happened upon this place on our vacation to Sunriver. The pastries are amazing and since we're on vacay, I went there every morning. So delicious! Definitely try the cinnamon spiral.

Bryan T.

Yelp
Everything was wonderful at Hot Lava. They were super busy (it's July, what do you expect?) - yet every single employee greeted our group with a big smile and happy demeanor. The chocolate covered macaroons and brownie cookies are amazing. And the coffee was high end (I got an Americano, black). Overall we had 4 families and everyone was very happy coming here. I will surely be back.

Katie S.

Yelp
I ordered a gluten free "50" number cake from Hot Lava Bakery for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. The owner was wonderful to communicate with. Couldn't be happier with how it turned out! Absolutely beautiful and delicious!

Chase M.

Yelp
It's Sunriver, so this is their over priced and underwhelmed bakery. The cinnamon rolls, we're just 5 bucks, I guess they have tax here? Anyhow the thing was a fun event for the kids, so we grabbed one, yes the donuts by us have them for 1.80, and a whole lot better, but we went. It wasn't bad, it wasn't great, it was a true 5 star. Lady working was quite bored as it looked not many people were shopping here today. I would keep walking to the candy store, if you're willing to wait in line.

Alicia K.

Yelp
UPDATE: We decided to call them this morning, and they did sell bread, they had one loaf of wheat left. It was small. We also bought one scone to share. Total cost was $9.20. There was a tip jar there, but with those prices, the change went into pocket. The scone was good and didn't need the sugary glaze crusting over it. The bread was strange looking and tasting...a sweet flavor with an almost rubbery, papery chew, and there was some sort of glaze on it as well. Maybe an egg wash? Ugh. Not happy. Thought we could get some fresh baked bread here, like the website promotes, but there was none. When asked if they sell bread, the answer was not now, then turned away. No other explanation...not interested in my business? The online menus should have given a clue, since none of them had breads listed, but figure it would be worth the drive, since the opening page mentioned fresh breads daily. Sheesh.

Sam W.

Yelp
We enjoy their donuts regularly and the espresso is solid. We also just ordered a chocolate peanut butter birthday cake and were super happy. The email ordering process and pickup were easy and the cake was terrific. Their specialty baker is a highly recommend for us.

Allison ..

Yelp
Always love this little bakery! It was a rainy, windy morning, but stopping in for some delicious breakfast sandwiches and coffee was the perfect pick-me-up. We even grabbed a couple doughnuts and a pumpkin cinnamon roll to enjoy later. The staff are so friendly and the food and baked goods are absolutely delicious! We definitely recommend stopping by during your time in Sunriver.

David G.

Yelp
Super convenient obviously if your in Sunriver, and really good donuts and breakfast sandwiches. Don't be deterred if there's a line, moves pretty quick!

Donna R.

Yelp
Mountain Man Sandwich was the best breakfast sandwich we've ever had, hands down! We forgot to take a pic, we just scarfed it down. Get one!

Kathy S.

Yelp
These doughnuts were delicious and HUGE. And the white chocolate mocha was the best! My favorite coffee in Sunriver!

Jeremy K.

Yelp
Always well stocked on inventory. Apple fritters, cinnamon twists and mountain man burrito are fantastic.

CJ G.

Yelp
We got a Big-foot donut and a caramel pecan roll (I think that's what it's called?) . Both were alright but not too impressive. The Big-foot donut was just a giant, regular maple bar shaped like a foot, nothing special taste-wise. The portion was great but the service could've been better.

Breanne W.

Yelp
The variety is great for all of their foods, but the wait can be a bit long & seating is limited. Coffee tasted fine, they brew sisters coffee co which is a Central Oregon staple. We all got mountain man sandwiches & maple bars. Maple bars are large, but flavor is average. My mountain man sandwich was on a cheddar bagel & it tasted amazing. It's greasy & high in salt, but that's why it's called the mountain man sandwich.

Abraham L.

Yelp
They close at 4pm, me and my friends went at 2pm and there was 2 workers there. They said they wanted to get out of work early so they had poured out all of their drinks and and stopped making sandwiches and burritos early. Good carrot cake though.

Vanessa W.

Yelp
Long wait but delicious doughnuts. Don't expect to get a cheap dozen doughnuts here. A little spendy but worth it. Consider the location when thinking of the price, it is a reality town. Sooooooo, yeah. They had a wide variety, so many things to choose from. I will be going back!!

Jeanie B.

Yelp
Expect to pay $55 for 10 doughnuts and when you buy an Apple dumpling it will be half raw with dough. Will not be coming back. Unfortunately we tried this place twice. Thinking it would be better the next time. No it wasn't.
