UPDATE 1/28/25: the Doki BBQ menu has been fully removed and to be honest, the Hot Lola’s menu has also gone down hill significantly since Moon Rabbit’s pop up went away with the best items steadily disappearing and quality decreasing. This place was special but now it’s pretty good. Most of what is in my original review doesn’t exist anymore or has been replaced with a lower quality item (potato wedges replaced with what tastes like premade frozen waffle fries, the biscuits went through a few variations and aren’t close to what they were). Still a good value for the price in this economy and may have a better rating if they had simply been this from the beginning. Now it’s not close to what it was before, I miss the OG deserts that dont exist anymore, original item recipes and consistency in food seasoning and assembly.
Original 12/2023: Amazing! I’m embarrassed to say I ate there 6 times in the week they opened. The people at Moon Rabbit are between locations and have a pop up in the Bryant Street Market. In a genius move they created 2 fast casual menus (Doki Doki BBQ and Hot Lola’s Kickin Chicken) to serve during normal food hall hours. It’s basically Michelin star quality fast food! My fave item is the McDoki Rob Sandwich which is rib meat as tender as the best pork belly with an Asian bbq glaze on a bun with pickles. The chicken fingers are the best I’ve ever had (also the best value for your money). The heat is in the dry rub/breading rather than a sauce, they’re huge, perfectly cooked and come with a side (I like the fried potato wedges). I suggest their ranch dressing for dipping. I also recommend the banana pudding, chocolate chip cookie, biscuit, chili dog, Taj Mahawt Chicken Sandwich and Catfish Po Boy which is humongous. Price point is surprisingly the same as the other spots at Bryant street so with that in mind it’s not expensive. Anything better than drive through will run you $12-$15 for a sandwich, burger these days. The quality you get here is well worth every cent. Only criticism is that the packing could be more sustainable. They use cardboard boxes for some orders but mostly plastic on small items like a biscuit that could just be wrapped like the sandwiches. Hopefully they stick around even after Moon Rabbit finds a permanent home.
