Best Dive Bars in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill | Eater Carolinas

"Grab your friends and spend an afternoon drinking cheap drinks and playing pool. It’s Cary’s version of a modern-day Cheers and a spot that feels like a home away from home to locals — with video games, dartboards, and pinball. TVs are focused on sports and drink specials, including $8 pitchers and very cheap cocktail offerings, which are a big draw. It’s nothing fancy and that’s a good thing." - Jenn Rice

Absolutely the worst bar experience I’ve ever had. Don’t waste your time here. From the second I walked in, it was chaos. Customers were way past drunk, screaming and whistling louder than the music nonstop. We tried to play pool but couldn’t because multiple people were literally doing splits, falling onto the table, and rough housing all around us. I’m pretty sure the owner himself was part of the mess, which tells you everything you need to know about how this place is run. To make it even worse, someone brought in dogs off-leash.I wouldnt mind that if they were well trained but… they were clearly not they ran wild through the bar, barking constantly every time that drunk guy whistled (which was every 30 seconds). It felt more like a circus than a bar. And if all that wasn’t bad enough, the restrooms were disgusting dirty floors(covered in piss), broken fixtures, and smelled like they hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. Just another reason to stay far away from this place. Unsafe, unprofessional, and just flat-out miserable. I wouldn’t go back here if it was the last bar in town. Save yourself the headache and go anywhere else.

Stewart @ hotshots was amazing! I bring my trainees regularly to Hot Shots and I usually bring in 5-15 people at a time. Hot shots is know for good service but Stewart went above and beyond! He remembered all our orders from the jump and made sure we were taken care of all night without any guilt or subterfuge. Exceptional service and all around nice guy! Total recommend!

Have been going here for a while. However, recently started charging $8.00 an hour for the pool table. When you’re already paying for drinks and then $8.00 an hour for pool seems to be a lot. The pool sticks provided all need work as well and are hard to shoot properly with due to tip or missing the bottom piece. So if you charge, it’s needed to be properly managed equipment. Also the environment has changed due to lack of clients coming in due to the price change for pool. Also you played if you won you stayed on the table. If you loose you get off the table. Now this will cause more issues between people that is not necessary. Hope this clarifies why there is an issue.

We went there for the first time on a Thursday night. When we got there it seemed like a nice place. The staff provided service quickly and the tables were in good shape. The problem started as it got later. As the regulars started showing up and the bartenders started over serving the customers the atmosphere went down hill. If you want to spend time with drunks who shout profanities out or drunks falling off bar stools this is the place for you. Otherwise avoid. Now with that, if you get there early this could be a good place to shoot pool. Just don't stay past 8pm.

This is the best dive bar in Raleigh hands down. The service is awesome, the bartenders are cool as hell, and the atmosphere is awesome. It’s a pool hall meets a bunch of bikers and it’s a great time. Between Ally, Campbell, Sophie, Monte, and Jessie this place is always such a fun time!

Hot Shots is an amazing place to hangout with friends! The drinks are amazing, and the staff are so kind! It’s so fun to shoot a quick round of pool or play cornhole to destress after a long day.

Google
These folk let our motorcycle group come in all the time on Thursdays for bike night, and they are amazing about it! The bartenders are always friendly and happy to help, the games are fun, and they let us park our bikes up on the patio away from the cars! Great place for bikes to hang out, great place for friends to mingle, and just a great place hands down

Google
I like to eat there with my wife, especially on Thursdays when there is a huge biker meeting. Nice view with a lot of motorcycle

Yelp
Nice little dive bar to get a drink and shoot some pool or play some darts. They do not serve food here. Plenty to TV's to watch the game.

Yelp
I had the be the worst days of my life. All I wanted to do was shoot some pool. I spoke the bartender and she said to please come on down. Well, coming down was the perfect description of what happened when I arrived, paying $34 just to get there. I bought shots and beers for everyone there. I paid my tab. Then I was accused of stealing a Natural Light from a patron whom I had bought multiple drinks and shot pool with, also paying for the table. Enough. This kind of business that has the audacity of letting a customer take this kind of abuse and not stepping in to set things right, well that is unacceptable. I was generous, a gentleman, and did my best to get along. What I got was two brothers arguing and accusing me of theft. I will never darken their door again. This review is just the beginning.

Yelp
Good. Sometimes I go over here to shoot pool and watch baseball. Seems to do alright.

Yelp
I love everything about this place. The staff is top notch and always have a drink in my hand I never have to wait for the next one, always paying attention to customers. The atmosphere is fun and filled with good people all the time. Jukebox, pool tables and dart boards. Love going here for a good time.

Yelp
This place gets high marks in my book, especially for area pool halls. I made my way here in a Sunday after a disappointing brunch at nearby "oyster" place. The service was top notched. Despite the fact the lone server seemed overwhelmed, she made up for it in attentiveness and with help from the owner, Coleman. The owner was sick the day I came in (maybe a little too sick to be serving), buit you can tell he cares about his place. The tables were in great condition and the full permit was met with great prices. i was here during a ladies league, but it wasnt too much for me to enjoy some NFL and the scenery. Nice sized TVs, clean well-kept tables, friendly owner and staff = 5 stars!

Yelp
A great old fashion dive bar. Nothing fancy but a perfect place to hang with friends for cheap drinks and an afternoon of pool.

Yelp
They have had better service. I hope they can gain some control and move up but for now it's going down hill

Yelp
Having lived in the area for 15 years now, I finally went to Hot Shots after visiting Tony's Oyster bar right around the corner from it with some friends. I can't comment on the price of pool as I didn't end up paying, beer was reasonably priced, bartender was very nice and very quick. Tables were in great condition, The house cue were good quality, no warping. The mood was happy in the place, jukebox has plenty of selection, pretty much found anything we could think of even obscure 70s one hit wonders to the latest Eminem, probably an Internet connected box, but worked great. Wish I would have actually stopped in sooner, I'm not a pool player by any means but it makes for a good time after dinner and there are at least 4 places to eat within a literal stones throw of it.

Yelp
I've never experienced such horrible customer service as I did this evening at Hot Shots. The female bartender was absolutely rude and obnoxious to the only patrons in the establishment. If the business is failing then the employees may need to be looked into. Unless there is a fire where someone is in need of rescue, I will never step foot into Hot Shots again. Driving the short drive to Big Boss brewery or Tyler's Tap Room for pool or darts is worth more than any words can describe...... As well as the beer selection.

Yelp
Love this place.... The bartenders are awesome and are always on time. I especially love Sundays when I can come in a place pool for free!
