Very reasonably priced, creative vegetarian sushi. Friendly service too! Will definitely be back.

This is, hands down, one of the best sushi places I have ever been to regarding quality of food. If you're more concerned with atmosphere, it might not be for you, but if you're looking for incredibly good sushi, I can't recommend it enough.

One of my favorite restaurants in Lower Haight! You have to try it if you haven't. Reasonably priced, great quality, and delicious. We never have to wait long to be served. Also they have great happy hour deals on the weekdays!

I just had a lite dinner here.the calamari tentacles were delicious and the meso soup 🍜 was good too. I came here because it was 10 minutes from my apartment. I say the food was good at this place. The service was very friendly and the overall ambiance of the place was great. I give them 5 stars ⭐️ . I may come back here again sometime

Good sushi for the price point. Come here if you want a casual neighborhood sushi joint where the owners and staff know locals. Food is good value. Service could be faster but again, casual dining with friendly owners. Atmosphere is fine for a group of good friends not trying to impress each other. It's not a fanciful production, but it's perfect for a relaxed meal.

Hmmm yes this place is affordable, but it shows in the quality of the fish and the craft. Overall a pretty mediocre sushi place that’s not worth going out of your way to try. We ordered a vegetable appetizer kale & mushroom, 4 nigiris (hamachi toro, blue fin toro, sake toro, and scallops), the Kale sake roll and the chronic roll. Everything was pretty average. The fish was fresh, yes, but also not that high quality. A lot of cuts of meat tasted pretty blind. The scallops would have been great but there was too much wasabi. The rolls were okay - they fell apart when I picked them up… I’ve had much better rolls at other places at similar price points. Service was okay. We Waite for an hour for our rolls to come out - could have been a busy night for them. Won’t return for sure; there are way too many good sushi places in SF even at this price point.

The salmon nigiri is some of the best in the city and you know what, they know it too. As they serve it they tell you not to add soy sauce, presumably because it’s already been perfected. I wish I lived closer.

It was amazing, the food, the ambiance, the experience- a new favorite for me! The service is not quick, but that was only something I paid attention to because I was nervous about being late for a flight after. But everyone was so sweet and attentive, it's absolutely worth it.

I had a light dinner here. The miso soup was delicious and the calamari tentacles were amazing too. The service was very friendly and the overall ambiance of the restaurant was fancy . I give them 5 stars. I highly recommend them. I may come back here again sometime!

My go to sushi spot since I moved to SF in 2018! Very unassuming when you walk right by it but it's definitely a place worth coming back to everytime. My favorite rolls are the Shibui and Hot Stuff. Also love their Hamachi Kama! But besides the amazing (also not overpriced) food, my most favorite thing about this place is the people that work here. Shoutout to Connie! Very humble, warm, and sweet people. I'm very happy that this place continues to thrive throughout the years. See you all again next time! :)

Yum!! This place was so good and the service was awesome. The owners were so nice and very attentive. The tuna tataki, miso soup, seaweed salad, and the chronic roll were all amazing. Would definitely come back here. We both left stuffed for less than $40 each after tax and tip! Thank you to my Yelp Elite homies for showing me this place

The name of this place is absolutely deceiving, I seriously questioned how the food would be considering the name. To my surprise this place is great - the quality is fantastic and it's superrr reasonable!! Everyone is hyped on drenching their sushi in "eel sauce" and spicy mayo, this is not the place for that. It's fresh fish prepared well - very clean tasting. Even though it's not on the menu I've heard that you can request omakase, which I will definitely be getting the next time I'm in!

This is out go-to sushi place in SF. You can't get better than Hot Zushi. The attention is exceptional (Connie and David - the owners - are AMAZING humans) We come here probably once or twice every couple of weeks. Sometimes we dine in and often times we pick up to go (they don't deliver). My husband and I have made a tradition of celebration our birthdays here, and everyone that comes and tries their sushi are immediately converted into customers. Sushi is great and fairly priced which is so hard to find in the city. Highly recommend you order the crunchy sake, the tuna tataki, the nachos are to die for, and the sake kale is incredible. My mouth is watering just by writing this. My husband's favorite is the jagger (only order I'd you are dining in, because to-go, it will get soggy) The place can get crowded sometimes. Definitely worth the wait if you have to wait. The inside is nice and simple. And if you have a party, make sure you call ahead and they will make a reservation (please make sure you show up, and don't leave them hanging- a cancellation of a big party is a big deal for a small business like this)

Really enjoyed this hole in the wall sushi place! From the outside, it didn't look like much and I thought it was going to be cheap, not super great sushi. Even sitting down I wasn't too impressed because it was pretty empty for a Friday night. We ordered the Sake Kirota, Hot Stuff, and Delicious and they were really good! Same Kirota was carb free (they used a daikon instead) and it was definitely an interesting take on sushi. Personally not my favorite, but really glad I tried it and they gave pretty generous amounts of salmon. Hot stuff and delicious were really good! I was a huge fan of the tempura in the hot stuff and the delicious had a nice sweet kick that made it the perfect dessert sushi. The waiter was also very friendly! She was smiling all the time and seemed like dish a sweet person :)

I am a neighbor and a fan. The decor is plain, but the food and service are excellent. The fish is fresh and delicious. Their tempura is some of the best I've ever had. The Spider Roll is another favorite--I love soft-shell crab! And there's a good selection of sake. You can pay more in some fancy place, but you won't get any better than Hot Zushi!

The sushi is amazing. Crafted with such detail and care you can taste the TLC. Also some of their rolls have this great play with sweet and savory and crunch!! The hot sake was delightful as well. Is definitely my new fave.

I thought this was a great casual dinner spot and a good value! We paid about $60 for two people and left very full. I'm a vegetarian and really appreciate that they had some fun unique options for rolls! I got the garden roll which I HIGHLY recommend if you are a vegetarian - the garlic eggplant on it was reallyyyyy delicious and the tempura asparagus was incredibly crispy. I also got the buddha roll, it was just okay and I wouldn't rave about it. Honestly I would have been full with just the one garden roll. My boyfriend got three rolls - he liked the 49ers roll the best. The other two were pretty good too! Overall I thought this was a good place and the service was friendly.

The staff is so friendly and attentive, the woman even knows my voice it's impressive. I'm a repeat customer because the food is so great and flavorful. It's a small, nicely decorated giving it an intimate feel on the busy lower haight neighborhood. It's a nice find that I enjoy treating myself to often. You all are amazing. Be back soon

I had high expectations due to the 4.5 star rating but I was quite underwhelmed tonight compared to other sushi I've had in SF. They were very very slow tonight. It took a few minutes to even get seated even though the restaurant was not packed. It took another 10min just to order. And at least 30min to even get our first sushi. I understand its a mom and pop operation but something has to give. Either stop taking to go orders or hire more people yaknow? I think the sushi was also pretty average. The rice was a little hard, fish was sliced weird, everything fell apart as soon as you picked it up, and fish wasn't super fresh. But the biggest offender was the size of the rolls. It is half the size of your normal sushi spot so at first you think oh this is affordable but actually, its too expensive. I can get bigger rolls at other places for same ish price. You know a meal is dissatisfying when you leave hungry and/or feeling like you could've made better at home. We finished all the food but 6 rolls did not even make us feel slightly full....thats how small the portions are. Smh

Usually if I happen to be in another city, I would make it count. This habit couldn't be truer nowadays. When I had to drop something off to my brother who lives in SF, I made sure to try a nearby sushi bar for dinner. Hot Zushi looked like a promising candidate! I placed my order via phone and luckily found parking on Haight street that is normally teeming with cars. Staff was nice and had my order ready 5 min upon my arrival. I scurried home to Oakland as fast (and safely) as a could. The rolls I ordered sounded so yummy and creative. -Hot Stuff: shrimp tempura, crab topped with torched hamachi, spicy aioli, and jalapeño slices -Chronic: tuna (I subbed for salmon), yellowtail, avocado topped with crab, aioli, escolar, and bonito flakes Both rolls were absolutely delicious- unique flavors, fresh fish and made well. I had some leftovers and after nuking them slightly in the microwave, they were the perfect snack the next day. If you are a sushi lover who is into creative and delicious rolls who doesn't mind the occasional splurge (which translates to frequent in my case), this place is for you!

Great cheap sushi spot and vegetarian friendly! They have several appetizer selections, some noodles, but mostly sushi. For vegetarians there are around 5-10 options, that are more than just the bare minimum avocado and cucumber rolls. The prices are super reasonable and the interior is nice and clean. Saw some regulars that sit at the bar to read a book.

Almost two stars despite the fact that the food was pretty great. We got here at 7 and didn't get any food until 8. The service was mediocre and the wait seemed strange given that sushi usually doesn't take long to prepare and there weren't many people at the restaurant. The food was fresh however and tasted solid. I came here with a group of friends which made the time go by quicker but had I been alone or with another person, I think I would've been more frustrated by the wait. Probably won't be coming back given the plethora of sushi options around SF.

Decent sushi spot for casual dinner. Located in lower haight, place is intimate but had no issues getting seated at a table on a Friday evening. Menu has wide variety and specialty rolls were solid. Chili Edamame was also a stand out appetizer for me. Would come again / order take out from!

A classic sushi restaurant with unusual rolls. The gyoza and miso were delicious. I had a Chronic roll and a Victoria's Secret roll and both were delicious! I hope to be back next time I'm in SF!

I can see Hot Zushi becoming my go-to pick-up place when I'm craving sushi. While the name Hot Zushi and the restaurant exterior aren't the most compelling, don't be fooled...the sushi is quality. I tried the Chronic (specialty roll group 1) and Sake Kirota (specialty roll group 2). - Chronic is AMAZING. Definitely going to get it again the next time I order. The different flavors and textures of seafood work together perfectly - Sake Kirota is a great low-carb option that's delightfully crunchy and refreshing. The roll itself is a bit more delicate / prone to falling apart Would stay away from ordering during dinner times Friday night as they're usually inundated with orders and wait times will be quite long.

Good food, Good people. I enjoyed the edamame, spicy tuna and salmon tiger roll. The fish is solid and enjoyable. No jokes to be made on this review, just a straightforward no-fancy sushi experience.

We stumbled on this place after getting some cheap happy hour drinks at Molotovs. I got the $25 nigiri combo that was super fresh at such a reasonable price point. I also loved my miso soup and my friend was delighted by her vegetarian rolls. We can't wait to return.

Really good food and value. The gyoza is some of the best I've ever tried, and the grilled short ribs were amazing! I came with my partner and they gave us a really good portion. We also tried the rolls which were delicious. The service is very fast, great if you just want a quick bite. Would definitely recommend.

Hot Zushi. Such a terrible name for a sushi spot, don't ya think? Haha. Little did we know that we stepped into a super affordable decent place where your tea cups are never empty. Seriously, the guy refills your cup as soon as you take a sip. As much tea as I drink, he is extremely appreciated. Anyhoo, they offer a pretty decent happy hour from 5-7...7 days a week. Sake, beer, hand rolls, and some appetizers are on the menu. The butterfish nachos seem to be popular here. I thought they were fine and a decent start to the meal. We ordered quite a few items off the nigiri menu. We had every type of toro they offered, spicy scallop, and uni/ikura. The slices of fish were huge but so were the amounts of rice for each piece. The fish was once again...decent. Definitely can't compare to the well known, omakase spots in town...but for a whopping grand total of $75 for 2 peeps for all the food and alcohol we ordered? Can't really complain...except for one thing. Some of the slices of fish were way off. One piece came out like a bundled up massacre as if the chef was trying to do everything he could to save that last piece. Haven't had to wait for a table the 2 times I visited although I was early. Service is friendly. Street parking. 3.5 stars.

Great little place for sushi if you want quality sushi, but not such high quality that you're dishing out $$$ for a single meal. If you can make it for their happy hour (before 7pm), do it! They have great drink and small plate specials that are such a good value. The place is fairly small, and although I've never had to wait long for a table, I wouldn't recommend coming with a larger group unless you've called ahead. Their rolls are solid--I definitely recommend the Three Amigos and Big Team (they're really filling), and wouldn't recommend the Mango Lobster (pretty underwhelming, plus I thought the macadamia nuts was... interesting). Prices are comparable for sushi in SF, but very reasonable for the quality of the food. Service here is great, and I've never had a bad experience. Because they get busy, it does feel like the servers are running around in haste, but they're really attentive and great about getting orders, refilling your water, etc. Overall, Hot Zushi has become my go-to casual sushi place when I'm craving sushi but not trying to break my wallet.

The food alone gets a 2 from me, but bumping it to 3 because they don't hold back on the portions. The baked crab hand roll looked good in the pictures but it ended up being so salty and greasy that I didn't finish it. We got the "delicious" roll - tempura shrimp, scallop, mango, pecans, avocado. Clearly a misnomer. There was a lot of rice and it tastes like regular white rice, didn't really pass for sushi rice. The mango was pretty unripe. Nabeyaki udon: nothing in that bowl was good except the udon noodles themselves, which to my pleasant surprise were very chewy. The "broth" tasted like just soy sauce with no soup base behind it; the chicken had a weird flavor; the crab tasted not fresh at all. The spinach was good. I want to say that's redeeming but...I mean it's spinach.

We ordered edamame, miso soup, and a few rolls (crunchy sake, sake Kirota, spicy tuna, and 49er) for takeout. Everything was pretty good and I felt it was priced well (total came just under $50 before tax/tip). We will definitely be eating here again.

It was great , it didn't disappoint me great customer service haven't had sushi in about a year too. I will definitely be trying again. Just wish they had the bento box. The spicy salmon roll was delicious and the potstickers .

This place is so great! It's a close walk from my house and have ordered take out multiple times. They have so many great rolls, fresh fish and great service. Def a great spot to get some sushi!!

I seriously wished I lived in the neighborhood. I can't believe some people just get to walk to this place from their apartment. The dish that stood out was the Butterfish Nachos $10. I thought it was a fair price. While I Iove traditional style sushi, I like trying out something new. Fusion is okay as long as it's well executed. I'm a tiny bit wary of "butterfish" otherwise know as " escolar" or "white tuna." But as long as you don't have digestive issues, you'll probably be fine if you consume it in moderation. It was crunchy, sweet, and spicy. The salmon tartar $2, nigiri tasting $18, hotate nigiri $5, and uni nigiri $7 were all delightful. They have a special secret dish the "salmon tartar" that is served on top of a fried shiso leaf. Ask for it. I couldn't find it on the menu. But I saw someone else's yelp photo. Yay yelp! This was the first sushi place in SF we tried since moving back to the west coast - I am really glad we chose Hot Zushi. The staff was very sweet. At the end of our meal, they asked if we lived in the neighborhood. Sadly, we do not - but we hope those that do check this place out.

Full discloser, I am a vegetarian so I can't speak to the fish here but I LOVE Hot Zushi's Happy Hour. The hand rolls are very big and filling and only $3 (I get the avo roll but I am sure all are great). Their beers are also around $3.50 during happy hour and as of 2019 in this neighborhood, thats about the best you are going to find. Plus their happy hour goes to 7:30pm and is 7 days a week. Beyond the happy hour, they have many different veggie rolls to choose from which I appreciate and are all reasonably priced.

Hot Zushi is such a hidden gem. It's the perfect place to get pretty good quality sushi for a really fair price point. I highly recommend this sushi spot and will definitely come back again! Their happy hour also looks like a great deal, so I definitely want to try that out next time. The place was pretty empty, but I did get dinner at 8:30 PM on a week night. The servers were all super sweet and patient, so great service here! [Food] Overall: decent sushi, with a lot of different flavor combinations you can select from! - SAKE AVOCADO (classic roll): a very nice, clean simple roll with salmon, cucumber, and avocado. A classic roll typically only comes with 6 pieces so it's a smaller portion. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the fish in each piece! - HAMACHI LIME (classic roll): woah this is such a twist of flavor for sushi! It's delicious the yellowtail flavored with lime. I feel like it's a bit surprising at first, but I really loved it. - DRAGON ROLL (specialty roll): I feel like this is a staple at most sushi places! A great mix of avocado, tempura shrimp, and eel! Yum! - CHRONIC (specialty roll): this for me was really an almost perfect roll. It has so many different elements, from yellowtail it tuna to the crab meat on top! I was a tad skeptical about the crab meat, but I really really enjoyed it. - PAN-SEARED GYOZA: pretty standard, but still deliciously crunchy - CHA-SHU TAMEN (with tonkatsu soup): honestly I was skeptical about getting ramen at a mostly sushi-specialized restaurant, but I was really pleased. The soup is strangely opaque, but I just looked past it lol. The overall flavor was really great and savory, and the ramen noodles soaked all that right up! I also thought the Chashu pork pieces were really good.

This spot needs to be on the SF MAP for sushi. The service was wonderful, food was ready in 30 minutes, and the quality is unreal. (The fish is so buttery it melts in your mouth.) I loved everything we got - will absolutely be ordering from her again soon! What we ordered: Hamachi Sashimi 49er Rock and Roll Chronic Tres Amigos Roll Tiger Roll

I called 2 minutes before they were closing on a Sunday for a take-out order during COVID, and unbelievably, they took my order. I got the Sake Avocado and the Dragon. The Sake Avocado was extremely generous on the salmon (awesome!!), and the salmon was nice and fresh with a great texture. For $6.95, wow. The Dragon was aesthetically wanting (it would have looked better if the unagi was applied after the roll press), but the texture and flavor was great. The tempura shrimp stayed crunch even to the last bite. Everything was nice and fresh. After historically patronizing Ginza for my go-to take-out sushi, I think I'm making the switch to Hot Zushi. It was better flavors AND better prices. Also, the mom-and-pop owners seem to really care.

The fish is fresh and delicious and the owners are the sweetest human beings I have met. They care so much about their customers. There are not many places that I enjoy just giving my money too but this is one. I want to just order more to support them and of course because I love sushi. Check out this amazing spot!

This place was great, the staff were the friendliest, everything was clean and we felt very safe eating indoor, it was my boyfriend's birthday dinner and we had an amazing time there. The sashimi albacore was so tasty and I asked the manager if they have any desserts and she brought delicious mochi's with a cancel in the middle so we can celebrate him. Best rolls I had there were tempura joggers A roll with kale (forgot the full name) and their tasty tuna tataki rolls I highly recommend this place, it's very cozy and everything was fresh and tasty!

Great sushi spot for takeout! I had the Shibui roll with Japanese pumpkin tempura topped with seared albacore and avocado. It was tasty and pretty unassuming! I'll order here again.

STELLAR SUSHI!!!! Super impressed by the quality and care this restaurant took with my covid take out order. The crispy salmon skin roll was phenomenal and gorgeous. The ginger tofu roll was delicately beautiful. The sake kale roll swept me off my feet. I love how many unique rolls they have in the $7-10 range. Support this business!!!!

Great spot for quality and inventive sushi at a good price point. I've visited 3 times and I've never had to wait for a table. The service is usually very friendly and our water glasses never go half empty. The tables aren't super close together, and the restaurant doesn't get too loud. As for food, I love the butterfish nachos and the smashing pumpkin roll. Their rolls are pretty filling... I usually only get the edamame, nachos, and 2 rolls with a dining companion. Would definitely recommend for a casual night out!

I love this place! My friend and I couldn't find anywhere to eat on a busy Friday night and this was the only place that would take us in. I could only imagine that this was divine intervention... I could not have foretold that I was about to have the best sushi of my life.... AND IT WAS SO REASONABLY PRICED!! I feel like sushi restaurants tend to be pretty similar to one another but this place had some genuinely creative sushi and amazing vegetarian rolls. I genuinely have been craving this sushi since the last time I had it and I cannot wait to go back and bring my boyfriend. My recs: Hot night vegetarian roll, Big pappa roll, and crunchy sake roll.

FABULOUS! The food was WONDERFUL and the hostess, I think she is one of the owners, couldn't be sweeter! I live just a block away and this is one of my ' pay day treats' !!! One of my FAVORITE PLACES in the entire Haight!
