8 Best Hotels in Quebec City

"Perfectly located in the heart of Quebec’s Old Port across the street from the Museum of Civilization, this 60-room boutique inhabits a 19th-century bank building but sheds any trace of colonial pretense. The lobby is a welcome breath of modernity, with limestone walls and a walnut ceiling. The rooms themselves, which take up the building’s top four floors (the rest is rented out as office space), offer loft-like splendor: a walnut platform bed swathed in a puffy white duvet sits beneath 15-foot ceilings. Corridors, by contrast, are dimly lit and the illuminated room numbers change color to indicate whether housekeeping should come in (green) or keep out (red). The intimate scale and finish give the hotel a distinctly personal feel, but smallness is not without its price. There’s just one cozy Italian restaurant on the ground floor as well as a café—and though the staff is friendly and helpful, at times it feels as though the entire hotel is being manned by a single person. —Todd Plummer"

Hôtel 71

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? What's the vibe? Nestled on a quiet street in the heart of historic Vieux Quebec, Hôtel 71 is a sexy, contemporary outpost. Stepping into the lobby, you're likely to hear a cacophony of English and French as guests curl up by the fireplace, clink wine glasses, and talk about their adventures of the day. What's the backstory? The hotel opened in 2005, which is basically yesterday in Quebec City terms. The seat of French North America since its founding in 1608, Quebec City is the most intact fortified town north of Mexico, with many of its colonial ramparts and fortifications still standing. But don't make the mistake of thinking this city is in any way dusty or tired—places like Hôtel 71 affirm that contemporary and creative energy still very much flower in this city. Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book? The modern decor is a stark and appealing contrast to this neighborhood's colonial roots. Our spacious Superior Room had generous windows which let in ample natural lighting. The bathrooms are outfitted with glassed-in rainfall-jetted showers (a welcome change from 17th-century Quebec plumbing), and each room has a sleek desk with integrated electrical outlets for remote workers. Make sure to ask for a higher-floor room with views of the St. Lawrence River, for optimal views and natural light. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi? Free and fast WiFi, just as the settlers imagined it. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at? The ground floor restaurant Il Matto is a sexy, modern take on Italian—and also takes care of the room service. Salmon tartare is a Quebecois favorite, and the spaghetti carbonara is a cozy, filling way to round out a long day of sightseeing. And the service? The front desk staff are impeccably bilingual, and provide excellent tips on how to best explore Vieux Quebec. Whether you want to practice your French or would rather stick to your English, expect to be greeted with the cheerful, officially unofficial greeting of Quebec: "Bonjour, hi!" What type of travelers will you find here? Due to its proximity to the cruise terminals, the hotel (before COVID, at least) receives a fair share of senior travelers on layover before or after their St. Lawrence Seaway adventures. Otherwise, it's a fun mix of artistic types and design lovers who want something a step above the basic Quebec City hotel. What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, make itself part of the scene? The hotel isn't just a part of the scene, it is the scene. Its perfectly central location means that all of Vieux Quebec's best restaurants, shops, and museums are just steps outside your door. Is there anything you'd change? Room service is only available during limited dinnertime hours—not ideal if you're coming back from a late night at the pubs. Any other hotel features worth noting? The hotel offers free bicycle rentals so you can cruise all over Quebec City. Bottom line: Worth it? Why? It's an adorable, fresh take on a longstanding tourism destination." - Todd Plummer

Hotel 71 Quebec City (Quebec City, Quebec) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Once the offices of the National Bank of Canada, on a quiet street in the 17th-century heart of Old Québec, Hotel 71 finds new life as a 60-room luxury boutique hotel. The historic architecture influences the interiors but doesn’t dictate the style, which is a lively mix of modern and contemporary elements against a classic backdrop; the penthouse, with its private roof terrace, might be the most unique suite in town. There’s an espresso lounge and an automated wine bar, as well as Il Matto, an upscale Italian restaurant with an emphasis on comfort food and a long list of grappas." - Tablet Hotels

We stayed here for 2 nights in a Superior Room Plus on the top floor. The room was very cozy and quiet, I am usually a very light sleeper but I was able to sleep well with no interruptions here. The location is excellent, right in Old Quebec and we were able to walk to everywhere we needed to be. One thing to be mindful of is that there not many cafes or breakfast spots nearby, although the hotel provides breakfast for a fee. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and overall I had a good experience here. I would book with Hotel 71 again if I return to Quebec City.

The location is everything as there is sell street parking right close to the hotel otherwise they offer valet parking. They are well situated in regards to walking distance everywhere in Old Quebec yet the store is quiet and not too pedestrian. The back and front entrance are cool and help with accessibility. We were well received at check in, had a note and complimentary macaroons which was a nice touch. The high ceilings create the best illusion of a large room. The Nespresso coffee machine was nice as they also have a complimentary coffee station & pretzels at night. The bathroom is modern and chic. Everything was great really! Enjoyed our short stay here. The only add on for me, would be a hot breakfast… bed in breakfast sounds good no. However, they do offer a cold breakfast if you fancy. The rooms are beautiful, well equipped and cozy!

We stayed for 2 nights in mid September 2025. The hotel was nice but nothing spectacular. The location was nice as it was right in the midst of old Quebec city. So much great walking in that area. The room was nice but the sound proofing of the rooms was pretty poor. Did not sleep well both nights as I could hear all sorts of noises. We had a light burnt out in the bathroom that we reported upon arriving and it never was addressed while we stayed there. We had an issue with billing as there seem to be an extra charge on our bill for $71 that I am still trying to rectify and despite my leaving 2 voice messages and sending 2 emails, no one has bothered to return my calls or answer my emails. Not sure why the disrespect of not returning calls to atleast explain what the extra charge is.... Maybe I am misunderstanding your invoice. There are a number of nice hotels in that area. Given my experience, I would not stay there again.

This hotel is a gem. Tucked away in the old town, quiet, elegant, and sort of unassuming. The room was so lovely. Quiet with high ceilings and plenty of room to store your belongings. The bath products and design of the bathroom was great. Service was stellar. Always provided with warmth and kindness. I forgot to mention prior to arrival that I have a feather allergy and then neglected to mention it until late the following day. No problem! We went to dinner and the room was completely made feather free while we were out. |The location of the hotel is also excellent. We will happily return and highly recommend.

Located at the lower part of Old Quebec, this is an excellent hotel situated near everything you need to see, visit, eat and drink. Service is friendly and helpful. Valet parking a must. Parking there is at a premium and expensive. Our suite (330) was an actual suite, not just a large room, with a great bed, assortment of pillows, two large TVs, Nespresso machine, small fridge and sofa-bed. 18 feet? ceilings, splendid bathroom with a large tub and rain shower. |The few cons were: no welcome water bottles (seems to be common now); robes not of my liking (just give me old fashioned fluffy white ones); and no slippers. |Overall, a perfect choice for a beautiful city.

I arrived from a long flight around 4–5 AM and went straight to check-in. I was immediately asked to pay a $700 deposit, which was shocking because even 5-star hotels never charge me that much. When I politely asked for clarification, the staff told me $200 was the actual deposit and the remaining $500 was “what I owe them,” but they couldn’t explain it properly. Both the male and female receptionists on duty at that hour were incredibly unprofessional. They spoke with attitude, raised their voices, and even rolled their eyes right in front of me. When I asked again because I was confused, they even said, “If you don’t believe us, look at your bank statement.” It’s not about the money! I asked politely, so why respond with anger? For a 4-star hotel and michelin guide recommended, this kind of service is unacceptable. I am the customer; the least I expect is basic respect and a clear explanation. To be fair, the morning reception staff were much more polite and helpful. The room is nice and the location is great, but the service during check-in was honestly terrible. I left feeling disrespected and undervalued as a guest. Your hotel is actually very good, and many things are impressive, but the front desk attitude really brings it down. I also noticed other reviews mentioning the same issue, the front desk young lady is not welcoming. I hope the hotel can reflect on this, because improving your service would make a big difference. Edit: I would like to clarify a few things based on the hotel’s reply. There were two people at the front desk when I checked in around 4–5 AM, I am absolutely sure of what I saw, and the young female staff member was wearing braces. I have no reason to lie about this. This review was meant to be constructive feedback, but the response I received feels defensive instead of addressing the service issue. When a guest shares their experience, the proper reaction is to self-reflect and consider whether something went wrong, not imply that the customer is mistaken. Regarding the Michelin Guide comment, the hotel is listed on the official Michelin Guide website, so I am simply stating facts. I’m only sharing my honest experience, and it’s disappointing that the hotel chose to argue with me rather than acknowledge the poor service I received.

We arrived early and the receptionist was able to check us in and gave us good parking recommendations. The hotel is in a great location and easy to access especially if coming from Montmeracy Falls. There is easy access to the funicular or steps to the boardwalk outside the Fairmont hotel. The room was spacious and had everything you needed for a comfortable stay. We had a full size bath and walk in shower in what was a very spacious bathroom. We would definitely stay here again if back in Quebec.

My partner and I were in Quebec city with our furbaby during thanksgiving week. In fact, we had booked another "hotel" which turned out to be an absolute disaster, and decided last minute to book Hotel 71 even though the prices were higher than what we would have liked. We were so glad we did because it was an absolute dream in Hotel 71. All the room finishes were highly modern and the room was super clean (especially the bathroom, which was extremely spacious). They also made sure our furbaby got some treats and food/water bowls, which made me feel that he was treated equally - as guests, not just "a pet". The location was fabulous, next to lots of great restaurants, especially Le Don. We were just a few minutes away from all the major tourist attractions but also sufficiently away from the crowds, which allowed us to have a peaceful time after dinner in our upscale hotel room. I would also like to note the extra care given to be more environmentally friendly -- e.g., no disposable cups, no plastic water bottles, no one-time use toiletries. This makes a big difference in my choice. If we were to visit Quebec city again, I would definitely re-book Hotel 71.
