HOTEL AKELARRE

I had a very comfortable stay. It’s a little distance from the city center. The local bus 6 (between hotel and center) runs only until 11 something. But we managed to take taxi to the hotel around midnight. The taxi costed about 12 euro. It’s affordable price if you need to hangout a bit longer a few times on a holiday.

I stayed last week with my wife at this splendid hotel. We have stayed several times at the Maria Cristina and decided to try something different this time. The Akelare Hotel is locates in a hill overlooking the ocean but just a 10 min ride from the city center. All rooms have an uninterrupted view of the ocean that changes in tones depending on the weather. You can even have a salt bath with that same view from your bathroom.The beautiful spa is another option.From the balcony of your room the only sound you hear is that of birds. The hotel architecture is reminiscent of a modern simple modern museum. Only tones of stone and ocre as decoration. The terraces are just unique: one is a cocktail bar, another a relaxing area, others serve as casual restaurant. All of the round terraces with share the amazing view of the ocean. The breakfast is prepared with produce from the area, not to mention eggs in any which way you want. Finally, I must say that the concierge service offered by Mr Abbou and Mr Vikeras was flawless. They organized our transfer from the Bilbao airport, tours of the area when we were taken to Azurmendi and they even packed bottles of wines for us for luggage transport. Never a no from their part and perfect suggestions as to tours and other nearby restaurants to visit. As to the Akelare restaurant, well they have three stars and this was our third visit. If you want to unwind, relax and eat well, this is the place to be in San Sebastián.

The room was very comfortable and clean, making it a great place to relax. The staff was exceptionally supportive and attentive, ensuring a pleasant stay. The only downside was the lack of an in-house restaurant, which meant having to find local places for meals like breakfast.

Overall this hotel is very nice with a great location to Santiago de Compostela. However, the weather was so hot, no air movement in the rooms, why doesn't anyone in Spain do ceiling fans? The rooms were very nice and the staff was professional and kind. The in-house restaurant has closed.

Disappointing experience! Initially I rated this 3/5 but after visiting more hotels in our trip I realised it should be a 2/5! The location and the room were amazing but the staff/service and food were poor. The concierge service was totally incompetent. The restaurant staff were both rude and ineffective. The food in the hotel restaurant (not the Michelin star one) was average at best and vastly over priced meaning we chose to cancel our dinner at the Akelarre and thank god we did after ready many poor reviews. Nice location but not worth it! The town of San Sebastián is lovely so stay there!

The hotel is 1 block off the Camino in San Marcos, near Monte do Gozo. This was a nice rest stop while walking the Camino before heading into Santiago. The room was very comfortable with good free WIFI. The bed & pillows were just what we needed. The bathroom was clean with plenty of warm water. There are 3 restaurants within 5 minutes walking. The restaurant at the hotel was closed the evening we were there.

We decided to stay in San Marcos at Monte do Gozo so we could go to Santiago at sunrise. We received great service, a clean room, good shower, comfortable beds with good sheets and blankets. Although they do offer a full service laundry service - we were hoping for a drying area for a couple things that we wanted to wash ourselves. Other than that - a really nice stay. It was very easy to find & just a street off of the Camino - it will be very quick to get back on the Camino in the morning.

I love this hotel. It is perfectly situated in a quiet environment only a few minutes from the city centre by car. There is a good bus service if you prefer not to drive. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They gave us all directions we needed. Rooms were comfortable and cleaned daily to a high standard. We stayed for 28 nights and will book again in our next holidays.
