Hotel Aliki | Best places to stay in Symi

"Built in 1895, this three-storey neoclassical landmark enjoys an unbeatable waterfront location. Decorated with family heirlooms and vintage photos, the 15 rooms have parquet floors, painted ceilings, and lashings of period charm – even if the amenities are relatively basic. Run by an Italian family with roots on Symi, the Aliki is refined yet relaxed. Soak up the scene over breakfast by the sea or sunbathe in secret on the roof garden where there are lovely views. The owners also run La Vaporetta restaurant next door, which offers fancy Italian cuisine in a magical harbourside setting. " - Rachel Howard

This is a very beautiful, traditional with no frills, hotel that offers simplicity and old world charm. We were lucky enough to have room B4, which has a stunning stone balcony that has room enough for a small tables and chairs - perfect for wine in the early evening as you watch the last of the day trippers leave the busy island harbour. ||Close to the clock tower, it’s just a five to 10 minutes walk from where most of the ferries arrive… if you’re coming into the Petalo Port (used by larger ships) you’ll probably want to arrange a taxi as it’s just a little too far to walk with hold luggage. ||The hotel itself is from another time - which is very much part of the charm. This is not a hotel for you if you like modern rooms, high end bathrooms, a bar and restaurant, huge breakfast buffet etc…||But if you like simple decor, a warm welcome from an excellent host, an eclectic mix of furnishing and a place right by the water - you’ll be very happy. The breakfast offer is simple - cold meats, cheese, salad, hard-boiled eggs, some sweet options and beautiful biscuits etc. ||If you have a gorgeous B&B in mind more than a ‘hotel’ - this will probably manage your expectations - but it is charming, spotless and a brilliant way to step out of the hustle and bustle. Would happily return.

We go to Symi every year and decided to try Hotel Aliki for the first time this year. We always walked by and found it charming. In fact it is now my favorite building in Symi, beautiful inside and out. Giorgio was wonderful, felt like I was staying with family, rooms are lovely and very clean. Perfect location and very peaceful even though near the heart of the beautiful port. Will definitely be back next year.

This boutique hotel is actually a large house from the end of the 19th century and was renovated beautifully which makes you feel like you’re visiting a Greek family. It is very close to the smaller port by the police station but a longer walk to the bigger port. It is by the sea so you don’t have to walk up any hills. |The terrace at the top has a fantastic view. |The hotel has 3 floors, so if you have knee problems, ask for one of the lower floors. |The room is nicely furnished, there is a fridge with free water, shampoo and bath foam. |The host, half Italian, half Greek is very friendly and helpful. There are no safes in the room but you can leave your valuables with him. |Breakfast is nice but limited if you are used to big buffets. There is cheese, ham, olives, jam, honey, tomatoes and cucumbers together with bread, cakes abd special salty and sweet Greek biscuits.

Situated 100 m from the ferry, this us a wonderfully renovated and restored Greek town house is on the harbour, so no climbing stairs is a bonus. The owner Gourgos(George) is a gem he could not be more welcoming and helpful. We chose a patio room, yes there is no sea view but not all rooms have a balcony anyway. It was very hot when we were there and it was great sitting on the shady green patio reading and the room had the benefit of no street noise. The WiFi was good as was the air con no complaints. The breakfast was fine not particularly expansive but something for every one.

While this hotel is very nice, I wish I had known a little more about Symi. ||Our room was nicely air-conditioned but there was no air conditioning in the lobby. This would normally be fine; however, after the 12 minute walk from the ferry terminal in the scorching heat with no relief from the sun and no breeze we found it difficult. ||There were no taxis to be found between the ferry terminal and the walk to the hotel. The narrow Harbour of Symi means there is no breeze and no relief from the sun when you walk along the harbour. my husband and I are young seniors and can usually handle a walk, but this was too much for us. We ended up leaving a day early because it was too difficult to enjoy even a short walk or sitting out to have a coffee or a beer. ||When we returned to Rhodes, it was 1° hotter, but felt so much more manageable because of the shade that is everywhere andu because of the breeze that is everywhere. I wish I had known before going to Symi. ||The hotel itself is beautiful, the room was comfortable and the view from the front is atmospheric. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Taxis are difficult to find on the island. When we left he managed to arrange for us to share a van with two other couples at the hotel who dropped us off at the ferry terminal.

Great hotel with genuine Italian style atmosphere; the owner is half Greek half Italian and took the best of the 2 countries. The rooms have a real interbelic feeling with high quality linen and a serene air. Nicely decorated, Aliki offers a great service for breakfast, good wifi, and seaside tables where one can e joy peacefully a glass of wine and a snack while watching the boats sail by.

We had a wonderful time here. The owner Giorgio was very friendly, helpful and approachable. The view from the room was breathtaking. You can have breakfast next to the sea, enjoying the early sunshine.

This hotel in Symi is absolutely amazing! The rooms are full of history and maintain such great quality. The hotel owner is incredibly friendly and professional. Plus, our room had the most incredible view of the island. I highly recommend it!
