Brussels Beer Guide: Top Breweries, Brilliant Restaurants and Gorgeous Hotels

"Hôtel Amigo is one of our favorite spots to settle in for the night. Located right next to the city’s main square, the Grand-Place, it’s a takeover of a former prison, and is now one of the most luxurious hotels in the capital. The Renaissance building, modern comforts and artworks by René Magritte, cartoonist Hergé and others come together to create an inspiring environment." - The MICHELIN Guide

Hotel Amigo, A Rocco Forte Hotel

"Around the corner from the Grand Place – there is no closer hotel – history is serious here: the building is over 500 years old, the cobblestones in the lobby date to 620! Expect, however, 21st-century sensibilities in cool and untortured room décor and expert Belgian touches throughout."

"No, your mastery of languages hasn’t led you astray—“amigo” isn’t a French or Flemish word. Rather, when the Spanish controlled the city in the 16 th century, they misunderstood the Flemish word for “prison,” and so the city jail earned its incongruously friendly nickname. Now one of Brussels ’ premier luxury hotels, under the discerning eye of hotelier Sir Rocco Forte, the landmark has finally earned its name, welcoming celebrities, captains of industry, and international dignitaries into its refined space. Designed by Forte’s sister and longtime collaborator, Olga Polizzi, the hotel blends contemporary Italian and Belgian styles—clean-lined furnishings, velvets and Belgian linens in muted tones, soaring windows framed by heavy drapes—with distinctive Flemish classics like Magritte paintings and original flagstone floors. As impressive as it all is, especially when paired with its acclaimed fine-dining restaurant and popular bar, the real star is the view, which, from most rooms, includes the city’s famous town hall."

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights in late May. Don’t let the hotel name put you off - it’s located on Rue Amigo. Why is there an Amigo street in the middle of Brussels? That’s definitely an interesting story worthy of google search! Moving on, we had a junior suite - 2 rooms with a quiet courtyard view from the bedroom, nondescript street view from the living room. Don’t know if there are view rooms, but we were satisfied because we slept great. Wife appreciated the straightening iron that was in the bathroom. Location is outstanding - just steps from one of the most impressive plazas in Europe! We arranged for daily breakfast, a combination of buffet and menu served in the hotel’s high end Italian restaurant. And being Italian, rest assured that your morning coffee will be perfect as was the meal itself! A real treat was the hotel bar and lounge - plush, comfy, inviting and with a great staff! We started 2 of our evenings there and both times left reluctantly. Speaking of staff, everyone at every position that we encountered was outstanding - profession, kind, friendly, and knowledgeable Overall, our expectations were exceeded! Kudos to the H Amigo!

We loved our stay at Hotel Amigo—just steps from the stunning Grand Place! The location couldn’t be better, and the blend of historic charm and modern comfort made it the perfect home base for exploring Brussels. We’d absolutely stay here again. The Rocco Forte flag is a hidden gem for Americans unaware of it.

I had fantastic experience to stay in the Hotel Amigo. It is in the heart of Brussels just opposite from the Grand Palace, what actually I saw from my window. I received excellent service during my stay from all the team members. The reception staff was very kind, helpful excellent check-in and checkout. The room was exceptionally clean. Despite being in the busy town center,I had one of the best sleep in this hotel. Andrew from the Concierge team treated me with the most welcome, he was very helpful, gave me lots of recommendations. Highly recommend to stay in this hotel.

Hotel Amigo is a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern luxury, tucked just steps away from the Grand Place. From the moment you walk in, you’re treated like royalty—impeccable service, elegant decor, and a warm atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. The rooms are spacious, beautifully designed, and full of thoughtful touches. Breakfast is a treat, with top-quality Belgian produce and world-class coffee. Whether you're in Brussels for business or a romantic weekend, Hotel Amigo makes every moment feel special. An unforgettable stay in the heart of the city!

This is an excellent hotel located about one block from the main square. It has an excellent location and is close to everything. We took a taxi from the Brussels midi train station which was straightforward and cost less than 20 euros. Our room was spacious and very quiet. We literally didn’t hear any noise from other guests or the street the entire time. The bed was super comfortable and bathroom/shower were also great. |We had dinner and breakfast and both were very good. Breakfast is a buffet plus selection of a few a la carte options (eggs, waffles, omelet etc..), all of which were very tasty and original in their presentation. |The staff is very efficient, friendly and helpful. They put a lot of effort into making our stay as good as it could be. For instance, this was the only hotel over a 2 week trip to Belgium and the Netherlands that had our room ready on arrival (we arrived about noon) even though we were early (checkin is normally at 3pm). This may have been luck but more likely it’s because they asked us about when we would arrive and then made an effort to have the room ready. It’s also the only hotel that called us morning of to ask us about help with luggage after we had made a taxi reservation the evening prior. So this is a thoughtful and proactive hotel. |The concierge in particular had some great recommendations for dinner and was super helpful in making recommendations of places to eat. |Normally when I do reviews I have a suggestion or two for improvement but in this case I would give 6 stars if I could. This is a first class hotel and I highly recommend it.

This hotel has the best customer service we have ever had at a hotel. The room was spacious and they provide you several waters every day! The shower was awesome too! The service from the hotel management was Superior! The bar in the hotel itself is one of the best I have ever been to and the staff there, especially the bar manager catered to our every need and went above all expectations!

Google
This hotel is EXCELLENT! Definitely a 5 star experience. The service is stellar, the staff are on top of things, the location is central and safe, and the rooms are updated and luxurious. 10/10, would recommend. Honestly, this was one of the best parts of our experience in Brussels.

Yelp
Perfect hotel with exceptionally appointed rooms and lobby. The exterior and location in the middle of everything in Brussels offers a lasting impression. Breakfast is probably the best hotel experience possible, truly exceptional. Delicious Belgium waffles cooked to order, the same for omelets. Everything is extraordinary, the salmon, the fruits, the amazing coffees and a wonderful staff as well. Everything is perfect here at Hotel Amigo--including the staff. Enjoy!

Yelp
Wonderful hotel with beautiful rooms and service that is unmatched. the common areas are gorgeous. The staff take great pride in making sure you want for nothing. They are constantly polishing, fluffing pillows in the lobby, asking everyone who passes if they can assist. The rooms are updated and plush. The breakfast in their restaurant is the best. Anything you want, they have it. The bar makes perfect cocktails. It gets crowded and service can be slow but they treat you so well. This hotel is also centrally located right off the grand plaza so you are within walking distance of anything you want to see, eat or experience in Brussels. I want to go back now!

Yelp
During our recent European trip, we spent a couple of days in brussels. Since we were only here for a couple of days we wanted to get something centrally located because we had scheduled a walking chocolate and beer tour one of the days we were there. Overall hotel service was excellent and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We felt that the accommodations were nice and clean and the room to be rather spacious based on European standards. Plenty of food options around the area so you really dont need to go far and all the various chocolate shops are nearby to stock up for gifts to bring home. There are even beer shops around where you can buy single bottles to either drink or bring home. The one we went to was recommended by our guide and they even provide a little bit of foam to pack in our suitcase. We also had a role of packaging tape in our luggage to tape the bottle caps down, which was something we learned from our trip to Germany.

Yelp
Perfect hotel for a Belgian experience in the heart of the city. It's my second time staying here and didn't disappoint. Rooms are very quiet and the bar is a perfect place for a nightcap.

Yelp
This hotel is beautiful and is full of friendly and helpful staff. The doormen who greeted us were phenomenal. Taking our bags and personally being the same ones to escort us up to the room and show us all the amenities. While making recommendations around the city. The location can't be beat - it's literally right around the corner from the Grand Place of Brussels so you can be eating, shopping, and smelling waffles in no time. The accommodations were comfortable and the decor is classy and formal. The concierge was helpful and pointed us in the direction of a very good dinner once we established we wanted low-key and relaxed not fine dining. My major complaint was noise. The people above us sounded like a herd of elephants and the noise NEVER stopped. I mean for hours and hours it would go on. Morning and at night. I've never heard anything like it. Slamming doors, stomping, jumping on furniture. It must've been children. I can't imagine anything else. I called to ask if there was a maids closet or something above us. It was pretty miserable. Additionally, the included breakfast buffet was dismal compared to most hotels in this price range. We ordered from the menu the second day and my waffle was so plain and boring I sent it back. Not a lot of options on the buffet, just eggs, bacon some cereal and cold cuts and a small assortment of breads. Nothing posh. I've had way better. I'd stay here again for the location but I'd request a top floor room. It was absolutely miserable listening to all that stomping around.

Yelp
Stayed here during a recent long weekend in Brussels. We arrived the evening of January 30, right after a large Brexit party in Grand Place. We didn't know that there had been a party. As a result, our initial impressions overall weren't great -- garbage all around the area and it was dead quiet. When we woke up the next morning, though, the area was alive with tourists and all cleaned up. Initial impression of the hotel was also a little mixed. While some of the decor has been upgraded, the hotel felt a little old and tired on that first night. It grew on us, though: clean, reasonably priced, centrally located and reasonably upscale for Brussels (which isn't as decedent as some other European cities that I've visited).

Yelp
TL;DR Version: Excellent hotel; exceptional service and amenities. Don't stay anywhere else in Brussels. Oh, Hotel Amigo, my darling jewel of Brussels. How I will miss you so. Staying at this hotel was one of the best choices I made for my vacation to Brussels Location: Can't be beat. Right in city center of Brussels, next to all of the popular attractions. 90% of everything we saw was within a 20 minute walk of the hotel. Reception My arrival to Hotel Amigo was greeted with the warming charm of the bell hop and reception. It was like they had been waiting for me since the foundation of the hotel and now all their hopes of my arrival had come to fruition. Finally, they had the privilege of attending to my every need; which they certainly would. Room: The rooms are excellent, designed in that sleek, modern contemporary style you expect from Belgium. It's like if Batman wasn't so angry and color monotone. The tech in the room (TV, Phone) were all top notch. Any hotel that allows me to watch Food Network Marathons in English, while munching on a liege waffle in bed is OK in my book. Bathroom: The bathrooms were beautifully done and had one of those high pressure showers that massage you with a intermittent fire hose strength spray if you chose. If I had to pick one gripe with this hotel, it's the shower current/door. They do one of those European style half doors, but it doesn't quite work with such a strong shower head, resulting in quite a bit of water getting outside of the shower. Service: There is nothing negative I could say about the service here. It goes beyond the standard. The personnel in this hotel are so friendly, you'd think they were on drugs (or Canadian). Every request is met with a rapid, high priority response. If something cannot be resolved, they will ensure you have at least the best secondary option at your disposal. The cleaning folks come around all the time. You step out to get a waffle (I ate a lot of waffles), and BOOM, that bed is remade and those clothes are folded when you come back. I swear the reception must be watching you like undercover cops speaking into earpieces to maid service as you leave the hotel; "Big Eagle has just left the nest, go go!". I don't know what else to say. This hotel was great. I'll be staying here every time I'm in Brussels. Oh, and the very best thing? Right across the street from the hotel ....the BEST WAFFLE SPOT EVER!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
The #Hotel #Amigo was fabulous. It was superbly located in the very heart of #Brussels, adjacent to one of the most beautiful squares in Europe, Grand Place, close to Brussels' financial district and within easy walking distance of the antiques district of Le Sablon. We had a free upgrade for our room which was fantastic. The #room was stylish, very large, with an office space, a large #bedroom and #bathroom. The view was on the Grande Place yet it was quiet. We had #breakfast in bed; it was delicious. Most importantly, all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, made us feel so welcome and at home! We will come again without hesitation.

Yelp
Stopped into the hotel for a quick cocktail. The hotel itself and bar area are definitely five star. The bartender was friendly and made a great pisco sour odd menu

Yelp
After a week long bike and barge trip I was ready for some peace and quiet. The staff greeted us by name upon arrival and quickly checked us in and helped us to our beautiful top floor room with views overlooking the church steeples and monuments of Brussels. The room itself was tastefully decorated, with a king sized bed, extravagantly soft white cotton sheets, and thick wool carpeting. The large bathroom had a bath tub, a warming towel racks, plenty of electrical outlets, plush cotton robes, slippers and beautiful green marble floors. The air-conditioning was superbly efficient and the views soothing on the eyes. The location was also incredible. My only complaints are that they charged for water and there was no coffee machine in the room.

Yelp
The best hotel in Brussels and the best local as well. The food is great, with room service breakfast for two. The hotel ls a five star and with the money you pay with the soft towels and white roped and the Tin tin art in the bathroom and shower and bathtub. You want the best place check in here.

Yelp
Very, very nice hotel in the city center. The rooms were a nice size and the beds are very comfortable. We very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel!

Yelp
Hotel Amigo is everything I would expect from a 5-star luxury hotel...and more. I really don't know where to start: 1. They have a great location in the heart of old Brussels, just steps from Grote Markt 2. The decor an ambience is precise balance of historical and modern 3. The rooms are quite large for Europe 4. The bathrooms are amazing...not sure if the floors are heated, by my tired feet LOVED them 5. Complimentary wi-fi......not many 5-star hotels I know of offer this. And on to the most important feature: the staff. On only a few other occasions have I interacted with a staff who are all so genuine, warm and ready to go above and beyond to make sure that I enjoyed my stay. I am usually a very self-sufficient traveller but during my stay here, I was down at the front desk and concierge a lot for help finding a market, or finding contact solution after hours. No matter how many times I came back down, I got nothing but warm, smiles and a sincere desire on the part of the staff to help. I suffered a flight cancellation and they were wonderful in accommodating me for a second night. I can't recommend Hotel Amigo enough, or the Rocco Forte brand whilst you're traveling. My stay at Hotel Amigo, particularly the warmth of the staff, helped make my stay in Brussels fondly memorable.

Yelp
I LOVED this hotel. Everything about it is amazing and I will not hesitate to stay here again next time I visit Brussels. Location: Fantastic. Right in the center and a 30 second walk to Grand Place. Staff: Friendly. Upgraded us from a queen to a king room as well! Rooms/bathrooms: Spacious and clean. Our room was huge, especially for Europe. Also, the bed was really comfortable. Everything at this hotel is 5 stars - highly recommend.

Yelp
Lovely place. Location is perfect! At first I wondered if the reviews would be accurate. Again, yelp has never failed me. When we arrived I order the car to pick us up from the airport. For a hefty fee of $90 or the equivalent euro, we were picked up promptly. I would say that the person who picked us up from the airport could've been a little friendlier. He was OK but when he greeted us he walked 20 feet ahead of us and didn't really look back to see if we were following him very often. We had to follow him pretty much through the airport and out to a private parking lot. I would've preferred to of had a pick up at the door but then I would just sound prIssy. Lol The point of this trip for me was to spare no dollars to euros for comfort. We were greeted at the door by Amanda and a top hat. That was awesome. Check in was a breeze everyone was super courteous. The downstairs lobby is absolutely beautiful. Our hotel room was very quiet very comfortable and had some of the amenities of American hotels, like washcloths in the bathroom. It's not very common to find washcloths and bathrooms of hotels or otherwise homes in Belgium, so they say. I stayed at a hotel in Bruges and no washcloths. The bathtub was amazing. Although there wasn't enough hot water for a full bath. I enjoyed Coming in after walking all day to have a room turned down, curtains drawn and slippers waiting beside the bed. I really couldn't ask for more. Anytime we needed anything information was right at our fingertips from the concierge downstairs. It was literally 500 feet from the most amazing market Square. Go out of the front door like your leaving the hotel and make an immediate left and there you are you can't see it from the hotel door but when you start to walk down the street it opens up to this entire market Square that you can't see elsewhere and it's absolutely phenomenal. The train station is literally a 15 minute walk and a seven euro taxi ride. If I ever come back to Brussels I would definitely stay in this hotel. Thanks for making my first time in Belgium so special!

Mark G.

Yelp
My home away from home. The Hotel Amigo constantly impresses me. I've probably spent 25 nights there over the past decade. The rooms are always freshly painted and show no obvious signs of wear. Bathrooms have heated floors. I've only once had a noise problem and was quickly and painlessly moved to another room. The location is great, being right at Grand Place in the heart of Brussels. Easy walking distance to many great restaurants and spots. The staff is excellent, and have a service-oriented attitude. This is one of my favorite hotels in the world. Always an oasis.

Yelp
Perfect location, in brussel! Awesome & friendly staff, there customer service was over the top! I would highly recommend this hotel. Beds & pillows comfortable, we stayed in room 637 & has balcony with one of the best views. If I ever come back to brussel I would def stay here again!!!

Yelp
This is one of the best small hotel in Brussels, a stone throw from the Grand Place. The hotel used to be a prison and converted into a boutique hotel. Not a lot of rooms, but it is quaint and quiet, with exceptional staff and services. One of my favorites in Brussels. The hotel does have a very sumptuous breakfast.

Yelp
The more I think about this hotel, the more I love it! We stayed 3 nights there and could not have been happier. There were 4 of us who traveled together and everyone felt the same. Location: They are perfectly situated! An easy walking distance to the Grand Square, restaurants, shopping, and the train station. Staff: They go out of their way to make you happy and tend to your requests. Rooms: Huge! yet they have character and charm to them. We loved that we could open the windows and take in the sounds of the bustling street. Bathrooms: Not your typical tiny Europe bathrooms. They are big! We were very appreciative of the heated towel rack too. Asparagus Note: apparently we were in Brussels during white asparagus season. Restaurants steam them and serve them Belgium style. YUMMY! If you like asparagus, they are a must try.

Yelp
This is a five star hotel. We wanted to check in quickly to get out on the plaza for drinks. We gave our bags to the front desk to have them sent up to our room. I made a quick stop in the ladies room and find that our maid had rushed down to meet us before we took off. She asked us more than once if there was anything she could have in our room when we returned. Robes, slippers, water, paper, complimentary toiletries were already waiting for us. Everything was clean and comfortable with all the extras to make us return again.
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
Perfect location in the heart of Brussels. The rooms are very fresh and recently renovated. The bathrooms have heated floors and are larger than most in Europe. The staff was very helpful and was willing to hold our bags for us long after our checkout time. In addition, complimentary water, wifi and morning paper were a nice touch. The rooms are also cleaned twice daily which was a nice surprise.

Yelp
This hotel has some lovely features, but overall not impressed. Upon check in the girl at the front checked me in under the wrong person. When I caught the mistake in the elevator and went back down they put me in a room with a less nice view despite the fact the girl and gentleman at the front told me before the first room had amazing courtyard views... It was their mistake. The room was a decent size and clean. The bed was comfortable. Decor is not fancy but upscale. Something to keep in mind, the walls are THIN. I could hear everything all night long. I am not a light sleeper but all the sounds kept me up. Upstairs, next door, across the hall. I heard it all, especially the very noisy family who was up until 3am every night. I ate downstairs and the food was bland but fresh. I also tried the room service which came up in good time and was again bland but fresh. The staff was friendly but not overly helpful even when asked for assistance. When I checked out in the morning the main elevator had no power to it at 7am. Thus causing me to walk down 6 flights of stairs with my suit case. When I told the front desk the gentleman just said "well there are two elevators". To be honest I had no idea where the other elevator is and no one showed it to me when I checked in. The correct response should have been- we are so sorry! Overall I would give this hotel a three star rating since I really could not sleep because of all the noise, which makes me a bit grumpy and the hotel a little worthless since I am paying to sleep.

Twila E.

Yelp
This is truly the finest luxury hotel in which we have ever stayed. We have traveled all over the world and have never been treated with such respect and kindness as at this wonderful hotel. All of the employees address us by name after only being here a couple of days. The hotel director escorted us to our room, the food and beverage director found us a lovely table for dinner, even though the restaurant was booked solid due to a large conference. The valet staff plugged in our GPS to make sure we knew exactly how to arrive at the sites we wanted to visit. Finally, the concierge staff was the best EVER. They anticipated every need even before we made the request. They went way above and beyond to assist us, even accompanying us to some places to make sure we arrived there!!! PLEASE don't be afraid to visit this magnificent city. It is beautiful and the residents go out of their way to be kind to tourists. We arrived a few days after the tragic bombings at the airport and train station, yet the people remained positive about their future and city managed to run without major disruption. Although I was a bit apprehensive before we left home, all my fears melted away the moment we arrived in this incredible city and this amazing hotel. Please don't let the actions of a few people keep you from enjoying this beautiful hotel and city. You will absolutely feel safe here. We are two elderly people and walked through the the entire city and never once felt uncomfortable. If you come to Brussels and want to have the best experience possible, consider staying at Hotel Amigo. We will definitely return here in the future.
