Hotel des Gorges du Verdon (La Palud sur Verdon, French Riviera / Provence) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Gorges du Verdon are one of France’s bona fide natural wonders, and the Hôtel & Spa des Gorges is perfectly placed for a commanding view of this spectacular landscape. In this setting they certainly didn’t need to create so stylish a hotel, but they did — the rooms are modern in style, all differing in their color schemes, and they come with balconies or terraces as a reminder that the real spectacle is outside. The Cinq Mondes spa features an indoor and an outdoor pool; the restaurant is a gourmet affair with its own stunning views of the Haute-Provence landscape." - Tablet Hotels

The Hôtel & Spa des Gorges du Verdon has some great strengths: the views are truly spectacular, both from the rooms and especially from the breakfast area with its large windows and terrace. The design is modern and pleasant, and I also liked the outdoor activities such as table tennis and basketball. Dinner was very good in a nice atmosphere, and the charging stations on the parking lot are another plus. That said, there are also areas where the hotel falls short. The breakfast buffet was rather weak for a four-star property, with few hearty options and the machine coffee was hardly enjoyable for a coffee lover. A simple filter option would already make a big difference. Our room was extremely small, making it difficult to even open a suitcase, and the bathroom was placed openly in the room, more like a city hotel setup. Cleanliness was okay, though not flawless (we immediately spotted hair tufts on the bathroom floor). The gym is very limited, with only cardio equipment, and what left the weakest impression overall was the „warmth“ of the service: across different staff members the tone felt somewhat cold, and we didn’t really feel welcomed during our stay. Overall, it is a nice hotel with fantastic views and some great touches, and one I would recommend – especially given the limited alternatives in this mountain region. Still, a little more warmth from the team would go a long way.

We were really looking forward to a little family getaway. We are a family of four: myself, my husband, and our two daughters (ages 11 and 13). The hotel is located in a stunning spot — as you drive up, the view is absolutely breathtaking.||When we arrived, there was only one staff member present. Fortunately, our room was already ready, which we appreciated. However, when we asked if it was possible to get something to eat, we received a very brief “no.” When we asked about getting something to drink, the answer was “at two o’clock.” There were no welcoming questions such as “How was your trip?” or “Nice to have you here.” It felt quite cold.||The hotel has a spa, but it’s only accessible if you’ve booked a massage — something we hadn’t realized. When I asked for clarification, the response again felt dismissive and unfriendly. Overall, we didn’t feel particularly welcomed.||The room itself was lovely — clean, with a beautiful view, air conditioning, and a cozy design. The bathroom was located on a higher level inside the room, which gave it a unique charm.||Later, we went out to the terrace and saw a menu with some small bites. A different staff member had just arrived and came to assist us. Unfortunately, her energy was equally uninviting. When I asked if we could order from the snack menu, she sighed deeply and said yes — even though we had previously been told it wasn’t possible. That said, the food was very good.||Dinner that evening in the restaurant was nice. There was more staff present, and thankfully, some of them had a warmer, more positive energy. The food was enjoyable.||The next day, we booked massages so that we could access the spa. Our daughters were allowed to join us for an hour for an additional fee. While that extra charge didn’t feel especially guest-friendly, we accepted it. The massage itself was fantastic — the therapist was kind and had truly magical hands.||When we tried to use the sauna afterward, it didn’t seem to be working. We went back upstairs, and again, the receptionist seemed less than thrilled to assist us. She sighed and said she’d come down when she had a moment. When she did come, she immediately said, “The sauna is working just fine.” But it clearly wasn’t — it was much warmer outside than inside. Eventually, she opened a cupboard, and there it was in big letters: “Sauna off.” So yes, we were right. It was disappointing to be met with such defensiveness.||Later that day, we spoke to a different woman at reception, who we believe was the owner. She was kind and friendly — a real contrast to our earlier interactions. It’s a pity she wasn’t there when we arrived.||It seems the hotel may be understaffed, and unfortunately, that affected our overall experience. The location and property have so much potential, but the service really made a difference — and not in a positive way. We travel frequently and often recommend places to friends, but this is one place we won’t be recommending. Sadly, we also won’t be returning.

My wife and I have stayed here three times and it is a very special hotel. They have a great small spa area with excellent masseuses. The hotel pool is large and the staff serves poolside. ||The rooms are nice and have beautiful views of the mountains. ||The most impressive thing about this hotel is the food and drink. The food is absolutely delicious and dining out on the balcony with breathtaking views of the sunset makes it even better.

We stayed here with our adult daughter. The views are breathtaking. Our too|S were large and very clean with a very contemporary feel. Our daughter and I had facials which were lovely. The restaurant food was delicious and well presented and all the staff were professional and friendly

Our stay at the hotel was incredible. The location is stunning, and the large windows in our room offered breathtaking mountain views. While the hotel itself is a bit dated and worn, it didn’t bother us at all—everything was clean and fully functional. The room had everything we needed. The service was truly excellent, and the food at the restaurant was delicious. Parking was included in the price, and there were plenty of spots available right on site.

This is an interesting 4 star hotel on top of a small hill of a little town. |Upon arrival it has a large enough carpark for you to find a spot. Inside the hotel looks nice but hot. Unfortunately it has no air conditioned through the hotel. Even their bar and dining area have no air conditioned. Is not just the heat but the flies hovering around you. We’d the Olive suite which is upstairs (no lift) so be prepared to carry your suitcase up. Luckily, Camille the receptionist is a very strong lady. She carried my luggage up - thank you very much!|Our room has a nice layout and fantastic balcony area which we use it to dry our clothes (super fast). Lovely views from living area and bedroom. Bed is comfortable but the pillows are not that comfortable. They have a small little fridge for you to put a bottle of wine and some things if you need. It has a swimming pool which is not able to do laps but enough to swim just a little or to cool down and a nice warm Jacuzzi beside it. Steam room only functioned between 3-7pm. We hike daily as you can find some hiking trails around the area or drive out 20-35min. away. If you plan to leave early morning like we do before the heat gets to you, please do get the CODE to get out if you are driving as there’s a gate. We didn’t know where to find the code on day 1 and it was written right at the card key slot in the room but because of our pathetic eyesight and in the early morning when we were frantic and fraustrated, we got no help as there was no one in this hotel between 5am-7am. ||Staff are typical French not smiley but they are helpful so long you ask. One of the lady was kind to let us order some small bites to be served at 4pm as their dinner starts at 7pm which is too late for us. We had a great time at their dining area at 4pm though no air conditioned but it was surprisingly very pleasant that day with no flies. Wine by the bottle is also good enough and reasonably priced. ||Breakfast was great! No omelette/Crepe made to order but plenty to eat. Considering a 4 star hotel, it has quality fruits and lots of nice pastry! ||Is quite a remote area such that you can’t find a nice restaurant within 30min. drive. There is a small town just 10min. walk but they are again filled with flies all over your food. There is a small supermarket that has enough things if you need some food or wine. A small petrol kiosk that accepts credit card easily. 2 cafes that open early morning by 9am and they serve ice cream too. Other than that, there’s nothing much really. ||This is the nicest hotel you can find in this area.

This hotel is truly an oasis. I am currently on my fourth stay because of the beauty of the hotel, its pool, and the surrounding area. The staff are welcoming and lovely. They even recognized me as I checked in and provided a complementary upgrade. The hotel restaurant is also an incredible culinary experience. We look forward to our annual return!

This hotel and restaurant is a gem. - amazing views of the valley and mountains - swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, spa - excellent restaurant - great bar - even a gift shop with local food - rooms are very functional, spacious, very comfortable, quiet, with all amenities The restaurant serves top food, could well get a Michelin star one day, very affordable and the service is extremely professional and attentive. Each time I stay there only one night and regret not spending more time.
