The Best Places to Go in North America & the Caribbean in 2025

"Base yourself at Ilulissat’s Hotel Arctic and wake up to (you guessed it) a dreamy Arctic seascape littered with hulking icebergs. Seven new Aurora cabins have floor-to-ceiling windows made of heated glass so snow never obscures your view of the northern lights (known here as arsarnerit) illuminating Disko Bay."

Had a wonderful stay at Hotel Arctic! The room was so cozy and comfortable and had a stunning view on the icefjord. You almost didn’t want to leave. ||Even though the location is isolated, and not in town, you have access to a shuttle that runs all day and into the evening to take you to town on a frequent schedule. ||A major bonus is that the World of Greenland Tours will also coordinate to pick you up and drop you off at the hotel, which makes for a very comfortable experience. This is an added advantage of door to door service, especially when the weather is cold. ||The stay was really outstanding and you can’t beat the views. The decor in the hotel was also really lovely. The entire hotel displays beautiful native art so every corridor is like walking through a museum. Large windows allow you to enjoy the view from most common areas too. ||The food in the restaurant & breakfast was also excellent. Even the bread was fantastic. A highlight was the effort and care they put into creating a beautiful menu with local choices. All very well executed. You’ll have a hard time eating elsewhere because the food is so good. The staff was also always incredibly helpful and lovely. ||I am very much looking forward to my next stay!

Nice hotel although the rooms are like most in Greenland - a bit small, and the location, at the edge of town, leads to nice views but is a little bit of a walk. Restaurant is very good, ample seating areas in the lobby and hallway to the rooms/restaurant, a decent sized play room/lounge, and a decently equipped but kind of cramped gym.

I booked a junior suite for my trip-of-lifetime to Greenland and it was well worth it. The view is spectacular. I had a small balcony to go out onto which was good cause the window was unfortunately dirty. For such a view, they should be sparkling. Photo is from the balcony. The staff is very nice. Shout out to the always sweet and helpful Nina in reception. I’d definitely recommend this hotel to friends

Do NOT pick this hotel! This hotel is VERY far from everything. Restaurants, museum, tours and activities. The hotel claims to have a great view from every room. That is absolutely not true. There are much better hotels with central location that has a bette view.

Very disappointed, i stayed at the hotel apartment for three nights. The view was really great, overlooking the disko bay, but other amenities could have been better given its a four star hotel and among all the hotels i have stayed in Greenland, this is the worst. There is no shower gel/conditioner provided, it advertised as a fully equipped kitchen but thr isnt any dishwashing soap for use. Breakfast was also not included as well which should have been stated in the booking website… its also poorly maintained that the window is very dirty.

Warning when booking a stay at Hotel Arctic Illulissat Greenland. I had to cancel my reservation for June 2025 a few weeks after booking in Dec. They confirmed the cancellation and acknowledged refund due of one night stay deposit. It’s been 6 weeks since I cancelled. I have had to do many follow ups with the hotel. Lots of excuses. Finally the refund was supposedly made to my credit card but nothing has come through. I have now handed it over as a disputed item to the credit card company.|My original intention was re rebook with them. But I now feel that’s a big risk. The location looks lovely but a luxury hotel operation who had no problem immediately charging one nights room charge at booking but can’t promptly make refunds due concerns me deeply.

Hotel Arctic is the nicest hotel I stayed at in Greenland (I’ve stayed at four different hotels). The rooms are spacious and warm, with the option to turn on a radiator if needed. The bathrooms are large with heated floors. There's no minibar, but that didn't bother me since snacks and drinks are available at reception. Having stayed three times, I got different rooms; some are newer and more beautiful, but even the older ones are excellent. The restaurant is large, and I enjoyed every meal there. The staff is extremely friendly; I even had the pleasure of meeting Codrin, a Romanian, whom I'd like to thank for being so welcoming and kind. Breakfast is as varied as it can be in Ilulissat, near the edge of the world. The hotel also has a small gym, though I got plenty of exercise exploring the area. If you’re looking for top-tier accommodation, Hotel Arctic is one of only two options in Ilulissat. It's a bit of a walk from the city center (around 30–40 minutes), but there’s nothing better to do than admire the spectacular scenery.

The rooms are comfortable and the furnishings spare (in keeping with Scandinavian esthetics). For instance, my queen size bed was composed of two smaller mattresses pushed together, each with a duvet rather than sheets and blankets. The windows opened which was nice but no bug screens which seemed odd to me. There was also no air conditioning. Not surprising for an arctic location but it was hot during the "day" (it never got dark).|The restaurant is very good. They seem to have their own bakery onsite as the breads and baked goods are fresh and delicious. The halibut is amazingly fresh. Never had it so good. I was a little put off by cubed whale meat, whale soup, reindeer ribs and muskox steaks. Everything was a little salty, even the vegetables. There didn't appear to be any other seasoning than salt (I am used to eating Thai, Mexican, Indian, Italian, Lebanese, etc.). |The common areas are nice, including a large patio overlooking Ilulissat harbor. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. There is a free shuttle to the airport and another shuttle into town, which itself is small and walkable. I went with a group for photography on Disko Bay which was amazing. We also walked to the fjord where the glaciers calf.|The hotel is considered the finest in Greenland. Bill Gates and the Danish Royal Family have stayed there but if it were in the United States, it would probably be considered a two to three star hotel with a Michelin rated restaurant.
