The rooms are comfortable and the furnishings spare (in keeping with Scandinavian esthetics). For instance, my queen size bed was composed of two smaller mattresses pushed together, each with a duvet rather than sheets and blankets. The windows opened which was nice but no bug screens which seemed odd to me. There was also no air conditioning. Not surprising for an arctic location but it was hot during the "day" (it never got dark).|The restaurant is very good. They seem to have their own bakery onsite as the breads and baked goods are fresh and delicious. The halibut is amazingly fresh. Never had it so good. I was a little put off by cubed whale meat, whale soup, reindeer ribs and muskox steaks. Everything was a little salty, even the vegetables. There didn't appear to be any other seasoning than salt (I am used to eating Thai, Mexican, Indian, Italian, Lebanese, etc.). |The common areas are nice, including a large patio overlooking Ilulissat harbor. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. There is a free shuttle to the airport and another shuttle into town, which itself is small and walkable. I went with a group for photography on Disko Bay which was amazing. We also walked to the fjord where the glaciers calf.|The hotel is considered the finest in Greenland. Bill Gates and the Danish Royal Family have stayed there but if it were in the United States, it would probably be considered a two to three star hotel with a Michelin rated restaurant.
