Hotel Awa, Nr Puerto Varas - Explore & Book

"Hotel Awa sets the luxury benchmark high for Chilean Lake District sleeps. This swoon-worthy retreat makes the most of its breathtaking location on the sparkling shore of Lake Llanquihue, and while we’re yet to visit, we hear it's fast becoming the region’s chicest holiday address. It’s evident that architect owner Mauricio Fuentes has managed to pull off that rarest of feats: grown-up glamour that also ticks the boxes for kids. There’s a lot to love on the design front, too; expect a flawless use of glittering glass and exposed concrete on the asymmetrical façade, and a uniformly excellent mix of Mapuche fabrics, volcanic rock and cypress woods everywhere else. Incredible views of the white-topped Osorno Volcano dominate in the 25 spacious and stylish rooms and suites, all with statement-making rustic décor, liberal creature comforts and planet-kind extras. There’s also attentive staff (the owner has a summer home right next door), a superb restaurant for regional dishes paired with Chilean wines, and an atmospheric spa featuring a magnificent glass-walled swimming pool with ravishing views. But the real superstar is the setting - the gateway to Patagonia - and you’d be remiss if you didn’t make the most of seeing and doing as much as possible in this adventurist’s playground. Highs A game-changing hotel with astonishing views from every spot - all 25 rooms gaze out over the lake and out towards Osorno Volcano An architectural masterpiece - everything is designed by the owner, an architect with a love of glass, stone and volcanic-rock interiors The regional menu is extremely impressive and the selection of Chilean wines isn’t bad either The smart spa’s glass-walled pool is a true marvel Great eco-credentials: organic food, recycled glass and aluminium, a water treatment plant, plus hands-on social responsibility programmes Lows The vibe is resolutely chilled so younger kids will need to be entertained here It’s 30 minutes from Puerto Varas so not ideal for those wanting walkable town access Interiors are impressive and local materials take centre stage; if you prefer glossy minimalism, look elsewhere" - Handpicked by our hotel experts

Hotel AWA (Puerto Varas, Patagonia) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Chile’s southern region is increasingly known as its Lake District, and not without reason — this one, Lake Llanquihue, is spectacular, and would be even without the white-capped peak of Osorno, the volcano, dominating the horizon. It’s a setting that doesn’t necessarily need an extraordinarily attractive luxury boutique hotel, but it’s got one anyway: Hotel AWA, five stories of concrete, glass, metal, and wood, a stunning example of Chile’s specific brand of warm, organic modernism." - Tablet Hotels

5 stars from start to finish! Hotel AWA in Puerto Varas is an amazing property overlooking Lake Llanquihue and the stunning Osorno Volcano. The rooms are very spacious and feature a walk-in shower, a bathtub, and floor-to-ceiling windows with breathtaking views of the lake and volcano. The amenities were excellent, and the welcome tray with a variety of treats was extremely thoughtful and delicious. The spa area is pleasant; however, a few maintenance issues require attention. Some mosaic tiles were missing from both pools, and sand or dirt was noticeable at the bottom. The food was exceptionally well curated and beautifully presented. The half-board option included drinks, which was a very welcome surprise. Service throughout the stay was friendly, professional, and attentive. All in all, an outstanding stay. We will definitely be back!

I am not entirely sure this property meets an international five-star standard. Some expected amenities were not readily available and had to be requested multiple times. The professionalism of the staff was inconsistent. While some team members were excellent and attentive, others appeared disengaged and indifferent. The rooms were smaller than expected and did not feel particularly well maintained. This may have been an average experience, but it did not align with the expectations set by the hotel’s positioning. Bed was not comfortable, made noise and bounces when your partner turns in bed. !!!!!! Guests with food allergies should be cautious. Although allergies were noted upon arrival, I was still served a risotto containing fava beans. Fortunately, a few unblended beans were visible, which prevented me from eating the dish. !!!!! The food quality itself is good; however, breakfast service was slow. Each morning, there was approximately a 30-minute wait for egg orders, which is surprising for a hotel with only around 20 rooms. Additionally, although our stay was all-inclusive at checkout, we were presented with a receipt indicating the amount of tip we were expected to leave. Being effectively forced to leave a tip in an all-inclusive setting puts guests in an awkward and uncomfortable position and does not align with the experience we expected. Given the scale of the property and the level of service provided, I would not consider this hotel to be in the category of Leading Hotels of the World. (Especially with such reckless approach to food allergies)

This was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had. Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth every penny? Yes. The food was amazing, the room was beautiful, the included tours were AMAZING and very thoughtful (shout out Allan), and the service was above and beyond. Every single person on staff was wonderful and accommodating the entire time we were there. Also we love russio, the hotel cat.

We stayed at hotel Awa for three nights as part of our trip around Chile in October 2025. From the moment we arrived, we absolutely loved the place - the team was very warm and welcoming and the hotel itself is stunning. It's furnished in a stylish yet homely way and you can see the love poured into it by the owners and the fact that it's independent - no generic hotel furnishings here! |Everything about it was wonderful - the room is spacious and comfortable, the bar area cosy and like being in your own sitting room (except that our sitting room doesn't look out onto the most beautiful lake and view of a spectacular volcano!), the perfect place to cosy up by the fire and enjoy a delicious cocktail made by Cristian and his team. From a gastronomic point of view all the food we had was delicious; we were lucky enough to be at the hotel for one of their monthly special dining events which was absolutely mind-blowing. |I've been for sure enough to visit a lot of quality hotels over the years and this was one of my favourites. I'd have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who wants to come explore the Chilean lakes and Northern Patagonia.

We really liked this hotel. Stayed for 4 days. The stand out was the staff especially Florencia and Nicolas but really also everyone we encountered. The hotel architecture is interesting - the basic structure which you can see being cleverly complimented by interior design. Each room has a lake view which is spectacular. The food is also excellent with great views from the dining area. Outside seating area also v nice. Two possible improvements: stronger wifi and fly screens on the opening doors/windows in the room as flies/mosquitos can and do come in - although the ac is v good. Overall however excellent and well managed.

AWA was an amazing experience! The hotel has unique architecture, rooms are amazing (small details like wood burning fireplace, Haram Kardon portable speaker, rustic yet functional decor made it like home), views from windows are spectacular. Most of all the staff is extremely attentive and go out of the way to help and make your stay more enjoyable - loved every aspect of our stay and highly recommend this hotel!

I had this hotel saved as a place I really wanted to visit for years, and I finally had the opportunity to stay for five days, alternating between the Villa Suite and the Suite. Hotel Awa is relatively small, enhancing its exclusive atmosphere. The architecture, decor, and ambiance are excellent, and the views of Lake Llanquihue and Osorno Volcano are impressive. On clear days, you can see the snow-capped peak of Osorno Volcano, which adds to the breathtaking scenery. The hotel is conveniently located just over an hour away from the airport, making it accessible for travelers. You can rent a car, as I did, or arrange for transportation through the hotel, which makes getting there easy and hassle-free. The property itself is well-maintained, featuring beautiful landscaping that complements the surrounding nature. The hotel offers a range of amenities, including a relaxing spa and an inviting bar area, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. The common areas are designed to enhance the experience, allowing guests to enjoy the stunning views and tranquil atmosphere. The hotel was not crowded, contributing to its intimate feel. The staff were consistently attentive and friendly throughout my entire stay, making for a complete experience. Whether I was at the bar or dining in the restaurant, their service was exceptional. They provided helpful suggestions for drinks, food items, and local activities, which added to my overall enjoyment. The rooms were fantastic, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that maximized the views of the lake and volcano. Each room is designed with a modern style, offering spacious layouts that prioritize comfort and relaxation. Overall, my stay at Hotel Awa was a memorable experience, combining luxury, comfort, and stunning views.

A beautifully designed lakeside hotel with big windows overlooking the water and the volcano. Rooms are spacious, bright and incredibly peaceful. The whole place feels like a retreat, perfect for switching off and enjoying nature.
